The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition Is Three Years Late

This article is over 15 years old and may contain outdated information

Released first in 2006, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was one the early RPGs for the Xbox 360. Dragon Ball Z and Kenka Bancho developer Spike quickly picked up the rights to it and brought the game to Japan in the summer of 2007.

This year, three years later, Bethesda is finally releasing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition in Japan. This package, which contains the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansion packs, was sent to Western stores in 2007.

What took so long? Probably, the publisher change. Spike handled Oblivion before Bethesda set up their Japan office. Once Bethesda opened their doors they started localizing Western games, including their own titles, for Japan. Bully, released in 2008, was their first game. After that they picked up 50 Cent Blood on the Sand and worked on Fallout 3. All of those games must have kept Bethesda Japan busy because they just announced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition for April 22.
