Final Fantasy XIV players will once again have a chance to earn unique weapons when the Yo-Kai Watch event returns on April 24, 2024. The event first appeared in 2016 and has been re-run several times since then.

Beginning the event requires players to have reached level 15 in a class and to have completed the "Envoy" quests that take you to the 3 major cities. After that, the event can be started by speaking to the "Poor-heeled Youth" in the Steps of Nald in Ul'dah. Equipping the Yo-Kai Watch will allow you to earn Yo-Kai medals by participating in FATE events in the areas surrounding the cities, or in any areas added in the Heavensward and Stormblood expansions.

Yo-Kai medals can then be exchanged with the Wandering Executive located in the central area of the Gold Saucer, accessible via airship, who will introduce you to various Yo-Kai. By meeting enough Yo-Kai, players will earn the ability to summon them as minions, as well as obtain the Whisper-go mount. Befriending all 17 will unlock the newly added framer's kit for purchase at the Gold Saucer.

The unique weapons can be earned with Legendary Yo-Kai medals, earned by completing specific FATEs with the relevant minion summoned. You can get a look at a few of the Final Fantasy XIV and Yo-kai Watch event weapons and minions available in the gallery below:

Square Enix recently released an official FFXIV: Dawntrail benchmark tool, allowing players to test their hardware with the expansions graphical updates. Meanwhile back in February 2024, it was announced that Hololive Vtuber Inugami Korone would voice a character in the Yo-Kai Watch anime.

The Yo-Kai Watch: Gather One, Gather All! collaboration event will return to Final Fantasy XIV on April 24, 2024. The game itself is readily available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X while the Dawntrail expansion is set to launch on July 2, 2024.

Hololive VTuber Inugami Korone will appear in an episode of Yo-kai Watch ♪. To be more precise, the real person behind the avatar will be a guest as a bit part in the March 3, 2023 episode. Korone’s role will be as a little girl. It is unknown how many lines she will have until the episode airs.

Korone has d this on her Twitter . Yo-Kai Watch ♪ is the current iteration of the Yo-Kai Watch anime series. It started airing in 2021 and its English name is Yo-Kai Watch Reborn. Its last episode should be on March 31, 2023 and according to comments from Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino, it will be the last Yo-Kai Watch anime show for a while. This is likely due to big plans behind the scenes at Level-5 for the franchise.

Aside from their jobs as streamers, Hololive livers have appeared as voice actors in various other works. Shirogane Noel, Omaru Polka, and Shirakami Fubuki will appear in Little Witch Nobeta, for example, as boss characters. They also voice themselves in collaborations, such as Lamy voicing herself in Caravan Stories.

Inugami Korone will appear on the episode of Yo-Kai Watch ♪ that will air on March 3, 2023. That should be Episode 94 of the show.

The Yo-kai Watch franchise will be taking a break from television, but new plans are afoot. Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino tweeted the news on February 24, 2023, saying that while the current Yo-kai Watch anime will be "taking a break", more is in the works for the franchise as a whole.

Hino also included a photo of what looks like an entirely new character along with his comment.

The tweet mentioned that the Yo-kai Watch anime (a.k.a. the Yo-kai Watch TV series) will be taking a break. However, Level-5 is working on "the next amazing thing" in the world of Yo-kai Watch. Hino urged fans to be patient "for a short while," as Level-5 prepares to make a formal announcement. The image attached to Hino's tweet shows a cat-like creature with pink coloration and elements reminiscent of various iconic Yokai from the franchise.

Hino did not specify a schedule or timeframe for that announcement, but the wait might not be too long. Level-5 will broadcast its Vision 2023 livestream event in early March 2023. Though a new Yo-kai Watch project has yet to be announced, and is not on the official docket of featured titles, there's a chance that the company may make a surprise announcement.

The current Yo-kai Watch  anime series is called Yo-kai Watch ♪ (Yo-kai Watch Reborn in English). It began airing in 2021, and was something of a revival for the original Yo-kai Watch series, starring original protagonist Nathan Adams and his companion Yokai Jibanyan and Whisper. Given the announcement, once its broadcast concludes, it may be the last anime project in the franchise for a while.

Yo-kai Watch games are available across multiple platforms. The most recent, Yo-kai Watch 4, is available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. An English localization has not been announced.

Neon Genesis Evangelion went through a lot of reboots in its time, and now Shinji and his fellow Eva pilots will be "reborn" as bean-shaped creatures. Mobile puzzle game Yo-kai Watch Puni Puni is holding a collaboration event with Evangelion, which will see Shinji, Mari, Rei,and Asuka ing the Yo-kai.

Publisher Level-5 also ed a teaser trailer for the Yo-kai Watch Puni Puni x Evangelion collaboration event.

The trailer shows off versions of Rei, Shinji, Mari, and Asuka as they appear in the game. They appear both as themselves and paired up with various Yo-kai. During the event, players can access special stages patterned after battles from the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy. They'll also take on boss creatures patterned after the various angels.

Originally launched in 2015, Yo-kai Watch Puni Puni is a puzzle-based RPG for mobile devices. The English version of the game was known as Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, and was shut down in 2018. Similar to Puzzle and Dragons, the game challenges players with clearing puzzles to power up their party and win battles. They'll need to match little blobs (called Wib Wobs in English) to combine them into larger blobs. Popping them does damage to the on-screen enemy. When the Evangelion crossover begins, Shinji and crew will be added as special Wib Wobs.

Yo-kai Watch Puni Puni is available for iOS and Android in Japan. The Evangelion collaboration event kicks off on December 16, 2021.

Level-5 will release Yo-kai Watch 1 for mobile devices in Japan around noon on July 10, 2021. The game will be available as a one-time purchase app. It will launch with a discounted price of 1,220 yen (~$11) until August 16, 2021, after which it will have a regular price of 1,960 yen (~$18). This mobile port was the new game announcement teased by Level-5 in the Yo-kai Watch 8th Anniversary stream. Yo-kai Watch 1 will let you choose between Keita and Fumi-chan as the story's protagonist. It will also NFC to link with existing toys in the franchise, such as the Yo-kai Sword and Y Medals. However, it will not include the Local Versus and Mysterious Lens features.

Level-5 has also published guidelines for publishing videos and screenshots from the Yo-kai Watch 1 mobile port. It will generally allow players to record almost all parts of the game — including post-game content — with proper copyright notations. The only exception where recording is fully prohibited is the ending scenes after defeating the final boss.

Yo-kai Watch 1 will be available for Android and iOS mobile devices in Japan on July 10, 2021. It is also available on the Nintendo 3DS and Switch. However, only the 3DS version of the game received English worldwide releases.

Something is coming for Yo-kai Watch. The series is about to celebrate its eighth anniversary. Part of that includes a new website and an 8th Anniversary stream. While a full rundown isn’t available, Level-5 teased on Twitter that a Yo-kai Watch game announcement will be made during the presentation. It will air at 3am PT/6am ET/12pm CET/7pm JT on July 9, 2021.

The two major voice actresses for the Yo-kai Watch series will act as the host for this 8th Anniversary presentation. Haruka “Keita Amano” Tomatsu and Etsuko “Jibanyan” Kozakura will act as its hosts. They’ll talk about the series, nws, and be there for the Yo-kai Watch game announcement.

The first Yo-kai Watch game appeared on the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on July 11, 2013. However, it didn’t show up in North America until 2015 and Europe until 2016. Anime and manga adaptations also appeared. There are currently four mainline games in the series, including a Switch port of the first entry. However, Level-5 only released the Switch and PS4 Yo-kai Watch 4 entries and Switch version of Yo-kai Watch in Japan.

The most recent Yo-kai Watch game is Yo-kai Watch Jam – Yo-kai Academy Y. It appeared on the PS4 and Switch in Japan in 2020.

CoroCoro released its Big Survey 2020 results that show Fortnite, Pokemon, Mario, and other favorite game series that kids in Japan voted as the best this year.

CoroCoro usually releases its Big Survey for its anniversary in May, but this year's results were delayed due to the pandemic. The survey went out back in February 2020. Out of about 60 questions, the one we're focusing on today is about favorite video game series.

Keep in mind that the readers of CoroCoro are much younger target audience than readers of Shonen manga, so titles like Monster Hunter are never too high on the list.

Here are the top video game series as voted by CoroCoro readers for the Big Survey 2020 in Japan:

Fortnite saw a meteoric rise in popularity to finish at #1 with 20% of the votes. We can certainly attribute that to the latest release in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Last year's top series Super Smash Bros. went from 17% of the votes to 9% to chart at #4.

Final Fantasy XIV recently got its Patch 5.3 update but its Yo-kai Watch collaboration event won't arrive until next week on August 19, 2020. The Yo-kai Watch collaboration event will also feature four new Yo-kai Minions and weapons in its return.

The Yo-kai Watch collaboration event first appeared in 2016 and it returned for a rerun in 2017. The event hasn't returned since then, but with the recent revamp to A Realm Reborn areas, it's a good time to bring it back. Furthermore, players can now fly in the ARR areas, so it should make FATE farming that much less of a pain.

Adventurers can start the quest by speaking to the 'Poor-heeled Youth' NPC located at the Steps of Nald (X:9.2 Y:9.1) in Ul'dah. It has a minimum level requirement of 15 and players must first complete one of the following Main Scenario Quests: "The Gridanian Envoy," "The Lominsan Envoy," or "The Ul'dahn Envoy." After receiving a "Yo-Kai Watch" and "Yo-kai Medallium" you can go out and collect Yo-kai Medals by equipping the watch and participating in FATEs.

The original Yo-kai Watch is getting rereleased on Nintendo Switch, Level-5 announced. The news comes by way of Level-5’s official virtual Youtuber, Reto-chan. [Thanks, naruki!]

The video starts off with a spiel about the Nintendo Switch Lite, which was announced this week. Later, she offhandedly announces the port when she mentions that Ni no Kuni and Yo-kai Watch 1 will be playable on the Nintendo Switch Lite upon the console’s date of release, September 20, 2019.

Since debuting back in May 1977, CoroCoro Comic has sold over 400 million copies with a target audience of elementary school boys, so the survey is actually a pretty good way to see what video games Japanese school kids have been into recently.

The Splatoon manga has been a favorite since its debut in 2016, so it’s easy to see why those game series top the chart of CoroCoro readers’ favorite series, led by Super Smash Bros. which appears to have gotten a huge rise in popularity among children in Japan with the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Had this survey taken place about 5 years ago, we would’ve likely seen Yo-kai Watch with the biggest part of the pie, but it looks like other than the aforementioned titles, kids these days have been more into games like Fortnite, Battle Cats, and Minecraft. Kirby, Inazuma Eleven, and Monster Hunter also made it on the list.

Level-5 announced that Fantasy Life Online be getting its first collaboration event since its launch last year, and it will be with the popular Yo-kai Watch series. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Specifically, the collaboration will feature characters and yo-kai from the new Yo-Kai Watch! anime, which is said to be even more comical than the original series. In the event, you’ll be able to get various yo-kai themed equipment and items as rewards, and “a certain character” can become your ally in the quests.

The collaboration will take place over Japan’s Golden Week period in mid-April.

Fantasy Life Online is available in Japan on iOS and Android.

We recently learned that Level-5 is hosting a special Yo-kai Watch event on June 27 where a new title that is not Yo-kai Watch 4 will be announced, and a new visual has teased a smartphone game for the event.

The visual comes from Level-5’s official website for the announcement of the Yo-kai Watch 5th Anniversary Title Announcement Event that is set to take place on June 27. A live stream will be available for fans who want to check out the event via YouTube Live.

While no further information was shared, the visual teases a smartphone game with Jibanyan and Komasan holding smartphones. A closer look at the artwork shows various Yokai walking around in the city streets, so it looks like it could possibly be something along the lines of a Pokémon GO-style game for the Yo-kai Watch series.

For those of you waiting to see more for Yo-kai Watch 4 that was announced for Nintendo Switch back in April, we’ll get to see it a few days ahead of the event when a new trailer drops on June 23, 2018.

Level-5 is hosting a special event in Japan on June 27 where a brand-new Yo-kai Watch game is expected to be announced for its fifth anniversary, and it will not be Yo-kai Watch 4. [Thanks, Ryoktuya2089.]

There’s no further information but it was interesting to see that the company specifically mentioned that it won’t be Yo-kai Watch 4. They did, however, announce that it will be a “super big title that will shock the world,” but since we’ve seen how some of those ended up, I’d keep my expectations on check for the time being.

Level-5 announced that the Yo-Kai Watch Shadowside anime will start airing on April 13, 2018. The series takes place 30 years after the original games, and stars Natsume Amano, the daughter of the previous main character, as the main protagonist. Natsume must work with other people who have obtained the new Yo-Kai Watches, in order to restore the bond between humans and Yo-kai. [Thanks, 4Gamer]

The anime is a sequel to the movie Yo-Kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King, which was a crossover film with the GeGeGe no Kitaro series. The movie marked a change in artstyle to creepier looks for classic Yo-kai, which the anime is carrying over.

Since the third game, Keita (or Nathan, in the English versions) grew up, and became unable to see Yo-kai anymore. His duty was completed, and the watch was sealed away. 30 years later, Yo-kai begin to act up again, and his daughter Natsume is chosen as one of the few successors to the Yo-kai Watch.

The tonal shift followed a drop in interest in the IP, which we reported on last year.

Yo-kai Watch Shadowside will begin airing in Japan on April 13, 2018.
