“Players”, the song that Yoasobi composed and sang for the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, topped the Oricon charts in Japan. The song came out about a week ago on March 21, 2025. [Thanks, PR Times!]

To be specific, it topped the Oricon Weekly Digital Singles Ranking, but it managed this feat in its first week. “Players” is part of Project Memory Card, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation’s release. of the public submitted their “games I’d like to forget so I can experience it again for the first time,” and Yoasobi wrote the song based on these answers. The music video for the song also garnered attention for including actress Nanase Nishino, YouTuber Kiyo, and VTuber Usada Pekora.

You can listen to "Players" by Yoasobi here:

Due to Yoasobi’s popularity, as well as the band’s songs often appearing in high-profile media or collaborations, it’s not surprising to see their song top the Oricon charts. They’ve accomplished this many times in the past as well. In October 2023, “Yuusha”, which is the opening for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,  topped the Weekly Digital Singles Ranking. Earlier that same year, their song “Idol” topped the chart six weeks in a row, which was a first in Oricon history. “Idol” served as the opening for Oshi no Ko.

Other major collaborations and projects Yoasobi participated in so far for 2025 include the Tirori Mix 2025 for McDonald’s Japan.

tirori mix 2025 mcdonald's

McDonald’s Japan has announced a collaboration with Ado, Yoasobi, and Hoshimachi Suisei for its Tirori Mix 2025. It’ll appear on YouTube at 8pt JST on March 18, 2025. That would convert to 4am PT/7am ET of the same date.

Tirori Mix is a music project that McDonald’s started in 2022 to market to Gen Z customers. Prior to that, it used the “tirori” jingle that plays when fries are ready in a TikTok campaign in 2019, which achieved over 150 million views. Tirori Mix mashes popular songs together while the “tirori” jingle plays in the background. The music video also heavily features McDonald’s fries, which makes sense since this is a marketing campaign.

2023’s Tirori Mix was a collaboration with Ado’s “Odo” and asmi’s “Paku.” Then, in 2024, it was Yoasobi’s “Gunjou” and Vaundy’s “Hana Uranai.” As a note, the official McDonald's YouTube channel deleted the 2024 Tirori Mix, though s have re-ed it. The Tirori Mix for 2025 marks the first time Hoshimachi Suisei will sing for the brand. As for which songs will be remixed together, we will have to wait until March 18, 2025.

Promotional material for the mash-up includes a short trailer in which we can see the girls performing together. There’s also a key visual of them standing together in a field. The anthropomorphized fries that have appeared in previous Tirori Mix videos are hanging out as well.

The Tirori Mix song for 2025, which will feature Ado, Yoasobi, and Hoshimachi Suisei, will debut on March 18, 2025.

yotsugi song

Ayase of Yoasobi posted a short story that Nisio Isin, the author of the Bakemonogatari series, wrote for him. The short story is “Yotsugi Song,” and the story features Yotsugi asking Koyomi to form a band with her.

Yotsugi Song is only in Japanese and you'll have to zoom into the picture to read it. It starts with Yotsugi busting into Koyomi's room with various instruments, asking him if he wants to form a band with her. In a meta joke, they discuss the fact that Yotsugi's on the cover of the Yoasobi single "Undead." To make up for it, Yotsugi lets Koyomi be the guitar while she's in charge of both drums and vocals. It ends with Koyomi asking her for a left handed guitar and she tells him to quit with his hero worship of left handed people.

In Ayase’s Tweet, he states that the gift from Nisio Isin is an unbelievable treasure, as he’s a huge fan of Bakemonogatari and the other entries in the series. He then goes on to state that “Music is undead,” or that music will never die. This is a reference to “Undead,” which is the theme for the Off & Monster Season of the Monogatari anime. Yotsugi is the character on the cover of the single as well.

In the press release for “Undead,” Ayase stated that he always says Bakemonogatari is his favorite anime because of his strong attachment to the Monogatari series. In his late teens, he even wrote a song about Hitagi Senjougahara, the heroine of Monogatari. Monogatari is a series of light novels and anime that follow Koyomi Araragi, a high school student who briefly became a vampire during spring break. Due to his experience and connections with the supernatural, he helps various girls around town and school who have been afflicted with oddities.

You can watch Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season on Crunchyroll.

Yoasobi will be in charge of writing and performing the NHK Sports 2024 theme song. The duo will be collaborating with three mangaka with series in Shonen Jump+ and a novelist to create an original song.

The song, according to the NHK, will play in streams of a variety of sports this year, as well as in the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. For this project, Shueisha has requested three sports mangas from three Jump+ manga artists. Once they finish the mangas, writer Jun Esaka, who has worked on many Naruto novelizations, will write a novel based on them. Then, Yoasobi will create an original song based on that.

Taizan 5, who worked on Takopi’s Original Sin, wrote a story called Hanareta Futari. It appears to be a story about a soccer team. Yuki Kirishima, who worked on one-shots like Metamololita, wrote Parallel Lane. It seems to focus on a guy and a girl, though it’s unclear what sport they play. Finally, Hirusagari Haruno wrote Owaranai Deuce, which seems to feature two girls who play tennis.

Yoasobi is a very popular Japanese music duo featuring Vocaloid producer Ayase and singer-songwriter Lilas Ikuta. Yoasobi has released many major songs for anime, including “Idol” for Oshi no Ko, “Kaibutsu” for Beastars, and “Shukufuku” for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. It has also released songs based on stories, such as “Gunjou” for Blue Period and “Seventeen” for Iro Chiagi no Trump.

The Yoasobi NHK sports theme song will play during major sports events such as the Olympics and Paralympics in 2024.
