Marvelous released a new bachelor trailer for Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, the latest entry in the series, and it focuses on Murasame. He is a samurai training to become the strongest swordsman in the world, and you can date and marry him.

The trailer shows female protagonist Kaguya, who is accompanied by bachelorette Ulalaka, talking to Murasame about his swordsman training. The clip also shows a glimpse of the one-on-one love confession from Murasame to the player character.

Marvelous has yet to confirm who voices Murasame in the English dub of the game. Meanwhile, Murasame is voiced by by Makoto Furukawa in the Japanese dub of Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. Furukawa is well known for his roles as Saitama in the One-Punch Man anime adaptation, Sylvain in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Gepard in Honkai: Star Rail.

Marvelous released a new video revealing new details about Mauro, one of the bachelors and love interests in the Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma. Mauro is a treasure hunter who travels all over the world in search of them.

In the new trailer, Mauro can be seen pestering fortune teller Hisui as he stumbles upon the female protagonist of the game. Meanwhile, the second part of the trailer shows his love confession to the protagonist. Marvelous USA has yet to reveal who voices Mauro in the English dub of the game.

Marvelous also released a Japanese version of the same trailer. He is voiced by Yuki Kaji (Adol Christin in the Ys game series, Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan.) You can check out how he sounds as Mauro below.

We already knew the full list of romance options and love interests in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, since Marvelous had released two trailers focusing on the bachelors and the bachelorettes in the game back on Valentine’s Day 2025. The developers also talked to Famitsu about the decision to allow players to romance the playable protagonist of the opposite gender in the spin-off.

While we already knew the characters who would be romance options in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, two new trailers go over the bachelors and bachelorettes who will be love interests in the game. The bachelors video looks at Cuilang, Fubuki, Ikagura, Kai, Kurama, Mauro, Murasame, Subaru. As for the bachelorettes one, it features Clarice, Hina, Iroha, Kaguya, Kanata, Matsuri, Pilika, and Ulalaka. Of those, Cuilang and Pilika are DLC candidates you need to buy in the Seasons of Love add-on.

First, here’s the Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma bachelors trailer showing what it is like to romance those eight romance options. It highlights the English voice acting for each one, showing the character’s portrait, then looking at them in-game. First up is Murasame. After that, Mauro shows up. Kai appears after him. He’s followed by Kurama, with Fubuki appearing after that. Ikaruga shows up after that. The DLC character Cuilang comes after. Finally, things close out with Subaru. 

Meanwhile, the Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma bachelorettes trailer begins by showing what it’d be like to try and romance the love interest Iroha. As with the other video, each segment begins with official character art before showing gameplay and interactions. The second heroine to appear is Ulalaka. Another pink-haired woman named Hina follows her. Matsuri shows up after that. She’s followed by Kanata. A Clarice segment appears after that. Pilika comes up after Clarice. Finally, that video ends with a peek at Kaguya.

Marvelous and XSEED also shared another look at the game’s limited edition alongside pre-orders for it opening. It is up at places like Amazon and Best Buy for $99.99. That gets you the game, on the Switch, four DLC packs, an art book, a fan with display stand, a soundtrack, and a Woolby plush keychain.

Cuisineer already tasked us with fighting monsters for ingredients and running a restaurant on PCs back in 2023, and now it is poised to do so for Switch players. I had a chance to go through some early hours of the adventure on the system. It still seems as promising as ever. However, there are a few minor hitches that could keep shifts from running smoothly, but it’s early enough that those could be squashed before the dinner service.

Pom is a young woman who lives as an adventurer. However, an ominous letter from her parents sends her running back to her hometown. Turns out the situation isn’t dire! They just went on a cruise and wanted her to run the restaurant while they’re gone! Said cruise also put them in debt and stripped back what the cafe is capable of, however. This means Pom has to use her warrior skills to help bring it back to its former glory and keep the debt-collecting wolves from the door.

This means, for those new to Cuisineer, that it is a game with split gameplay. For part of it, Pom is managing a restaurant. That means getting ingredients and stations to create recipes for meals, finding crafting materials to build tables and expand the restaurant and stations, and running services daily to earn income. The other half of it feels a bit like a roguelike dungeon-crawler. You equip weapons, which are cooking implements, and take part in active, Hades-like runs into locations to defeat the monsters for the ingredients they drop. As you explore, you’ll also come across trees and mineral deposits for crafting materials. So an in-game day can be spent shopping and running the restaurant up until the lunch rush, then heading into a dungeon for the second half of the day to restock.

As we already know from the PC version of the game, it is a formula that works pretty well! The issue here in my early hours on the Switch is that the loading times really get in the way so far. Going from the restaurant to the town? That’s a loading screen that takes at least 10-15 seconds. Going from the town to the dungeon? It’ll be an even longer loading screen. Finish a floor in a dungeon and venturing to the next one? You’ll experience another long loading screen between them. A patch dropped between when I started playing and when I wrote this preview. While it did seem to help the loading times that take place in-town, the ones involving the dungeon are as long as ever. This ends up slowing down what should otherwise being a swift experience.

I also noticed a few things that might get tweaked a bit, or might not, once the full and final version of Cuisineer drops on the Switch. For example, escaping a dungeon via the warp pendant Pom receives almost immediately after starting the game involves a bit of waiting. You can’t immediately zip out. Also, it can be interrupted. That is a bit of a pain, but I feel it’s likely working as intended to force you to be smart about when you use it. I also wish the tutorial letters arrived in the inbox at a faster rate. Pom starts with a shockingly small backpack, and I only found out how to upgrade it by finally talking to the Tailor vendor I’d initially avoided since I wasn’t going to bother with cosmetics.

Cuisineer feels pretty fascinating and like it could be a potential fit for many different types of Switch player. The split between two types of gameplay seems to be handled well. The story is cute. It just seems some little details and technical issues need to be slightly adjusted, and we could very well see that happen before its January 2025 debut.

Cuisineer will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X on January 28, 2025, and it is immediately available on the PC via Steam.

There’s finally a release date for The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, the new game from Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka. XSEED is handling it outside of Japan, and it will launch on April 24, 2025. A limited edition will also be available for the Switch version of The Hundred Line.

To accompany The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy release date, there’s a new trailer. It is quite bloody and shows how dark the defense game can be. As a reminder, Takumi wakes up to find that 15 teenagers are now part of the Last Defense Academy Special Defense Unit. Their goal is to use their new Hemoanima powers tied to their blood to depend against enemy attacks and survive for 100 days.

As for the Switch limited edition, it is $99.99 compared to the typical $59.99 standard physical or digital copy. That gets you the game, an art card of each person in the Special Defense Unit, a short novel with a story based on the academy and its characters, an art book, a soundtrack CD, a pin, a lenticular art card, and a 3D acrylic standee.

This isn’t the only new game from Kazutaka Kodaka on the way, as the Danganronpa creator is also working on Tribe Nine. Pre-registrations are now open for that title. There’s no release date for it yet, however. When it does debut, that will be on PCs and mobile devices.

XSEED announced that not only will Naruto Emblem Battle begin appearing in arcades around the US in 2024, but the game will also be at its Anime Expo 2024 booth between July 4-7, 2024. 

Naruto Emblem Battle is a type of arcade game with a physical component. You will get one every time you play the game, which is essentially a card with a character on it you will use to build up a team of four. Each card has a rank and power level, which will help the game determine your rank and team HP when a fight begins. You will then move your Emblem cards on the screen to affect actions during battle rounds in-game. 

The official Naruto Emblem Battle trailer shows exactly how it will work, with the video showing both what is happening on the screen on the arcade cabinet and with the person playing the game by moving cards and pressing buttons.

If someone is at the Los Angeles Convention Center in LA for Anime Expo 2024, the cabinet will be at XSEED and Marvelous’ booth. People will need to head to the Entertainment Hall. Once there, they will find it at E-110.

Naruto Emblem Battle will head to arcades in the United States in 2024. It will also be at Anime Expo 2024 between July 4-7, 2024.

XSEED announced it will team up with Nihon Falcom to bring Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, the remaster of the game, to the PS4, PS5, and Switch. It will show up in early 2025, and the limited Refined Edition will appear with additional physical content.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is the third game and follows Adol and Dogi. The duo head to Redmont in Felghana, a mining town where Dogi grew up, after hearing the people there are dealing with supernatural woes like monsters and human ones like a new count running the place. The remaster, which added more dialogue, new art, and new versions of the soundtrack in addition to the remastered appearance, appeared on consoles in Japan in 2023. 

Here’s the first trailer for Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana on the Switch, PS4, and PS5. 

People will get a chance to try the game out soon. XSEED announced this Ys installment will be at its Anime Expo 2024 booth in Los Angeles, California. It will be playable alongside Corpse Party II, Farmagia, Naruto: Emblem Battle, and Potionomics.

As for the limited Refined Edition, we know what will come with it. There will be a set of four postcards of characters like Adol, Chester, and Elena. The acrylic keychain and diorama set will also feature all three of them. The microfiber cloth has Elena on it. Finally, there’s a Sound Memoire physical soundtrack.

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana will come to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 in early 2025. The game is also available on the PSP and PC.

Mages released a new key visual for Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion. It also announced that it’ll release a special limited edition, Monkey Set. [Thanks, PR Times!]

The key visual shows what looks like a person holding a doll close to their chest. There are red markings on the hand around the doll, and part of the doll’s face has what looks like a crack in it. Inside the crack, we can see a red and monstrous-looking eye. While the doll does not appear in any of the screenshots in the game, we do have some pictures as to how the 3D character models look during cutscenes. You can check them out here:

As well, here is a trailer for the Monkey Set:

The Monkey Set is a special and limited edition that’ll come with the monkey doll that appears in the game. It looks like a Jolly Chimp, which is a retro toy monkey that bangs the cymbals it’s holding together when you activate it. More details on the monkey set will appear later, as it’s unlikely that the toy will be the only bonus.

Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion will come out on the PS4, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch some time in Fall 2024.

Nintendo and Marvelous announced that there will be free updates for Fashion Dreamer, which came out in Japan on November 1, 2023. There will be new outfits every month, and the first wave of the free updates will come out in December 2023.

More information on the updates will appear via the official website. You can also follow its social media channels. The webpage already showed some of the outfits coming in the updates. You’ll be able to obtain clothing and accessories that look like butterfly wings. There will also be new glasses, hats, accessories, and dresses that give a character a slightly vintage look. The second update will come out in January 2024, which will include new ways to play the game and an event. The aforementioned butterfly wing items might come out in the second wave of free updates, since they seem to be part of the Fantasy Fair event.

XSeed (Marvelous) and Nintendo first unveiled Fashion Dreamer during the February 2023 Nintendo Direct. In this game, you work as a fashion designer and influencer. Aside from helping to glam up your clients and the random citizens in the city, you can also doll yourself up. Since you’re an influencer, there’s an in-game social media app that you can use to pictures.

Fashion Dreamer is available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan, and it’ll come out in North America on November 3, 2023. There is a 10% discount for the game and the sale will last until November 20, 2023.

Following the June 2023 Nintendo Direct reveal of Silent Hope, also known as Frederica in Japan, its ties to Rune Factory and Day 1 collector’s edition were revealed. It turns out the game is a spin-off set in the same world. The official confirmation even called people’s attention to Woolies appearing in both games. As for the limited edition, it will be sold at XSEED Games Store and other stores.

In the first trailer, people can see some of the Rune Factory elements. For example, since each hero also has a job tied to actions from that series, you can see those behaviors there. There’s a farm with crops like turnips, pineapples, and tomatoes. The ranching section featured cows and chickens that resembled ones from the Story of Seasons series. There are also crafting elements. The Woolies appear in the dungeon portion.

As for the Silent Hope Day 1 collector's edition, it will cost $49.99. That's $10 more than a standard copy. In addition to a physical copy of the Switch game, it also gives people an art book and soundtrack CD.

During the Nintendo Direct for June 2023, Nintendo, Marvelous, and XSEED revealed a new JRPG called Silent Hope. The Japanese title of the game is Frederica. It will focus on a world that has lost its words. Update: An announcement after the direct from XSEED confirmed that the game will also appear on the PC too.

It is an action-RPG in which seven silent warriors have to explore dungeons in order to save the kingdom from the king, who was the one to steal the words from them. Since the dungeons are ever-changing, they might be randomly-generated ones. After dungeon-crawling, you can return to a base camp and cultivate new resources, as well as forge new items. From the trailer, it seems like you can only bring in one character at a time when dungeon crawling.

Silent Hope, aka Frederica, will come out on October 3, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch and PC. The Japanese version of the game will come out on September 28, 2023. More information on the game will come out in the near future.

Over the years, Corpse Party turned into a horror series staple. It shows up on multiple platforms, with some versions being remastered or others offering additional features. Corpse Party on the Switch is one of the fuller experiences. This is due to it featuring the main game and its extra chapters, as well as new stories following Ayumi and Yoshiki and Miku and Ryoka. It’s astonishing how disturbing a title originally made in an RPG Maker game can be.

Best XSEED Switch card game and anime-based title: Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle 1m2ue

Okay, I’ll go ahead and get this out of the way. Yes, Shadowverse is a Gwent/Hearthstone/Faeria sort of collectible card game. It is incredibly compelling. There are seven factions, each with their own playstyles, as well as neutral cards to pair with all of them. You can get competitive! You can also try to solve battle puzzles, which are more thoughtful and about solving a particular challenge. It’s also tied to the Shadowverse anime, with characters reappearing and a world to explore, adding RPG elements. It is way more fun than it has any right to be, and essentially offers the same vibes as a modern day Pokemon Trading Card Game RPG at times.

Best XSEED Switch farming game that isn’t a Story of Seasons game: Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin y6u56

Yes, you can farm in Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin! Though really, it is all only about farming rice. This means it can get more into the nitty gritty of growing and preparing it. So you can end up sowing it, tilling it, growing it, laying it and drying it, then finally threshing and polishing it. It’s a lot!

It also isn’t the only focus of the game. You’re also heading into areas and beating up lots of enemies. But farming is a part of the experience too!

Best XSEED Switch Game with relationship-building that isn’t Story of Seasons: Fate/Extella Link 3g24o

XSEED localized both of the Musou-like Fate/Extella games, but it’s Fate/Extella Link that offers a better means of getting to know various Servants. Especially since, from the start, you get Charlemagne, Nero, and Tamamo to talk to. There is no romance here, though some Servants are in love with your character, but you can Bond with your new allies to make them a stronger fighter and see more Bond Events.

Part 1 of DLC for the English version of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town will allow players to moonlight as a detective and show off their wild side in animal kigurumi. Expansion Part 1 will go live on April 29, 2021 for English players.

The Animal Attire costume dresses up the protagonist and the marriage candidates in a variety of cat and dog costumes. There are multiple colors and breeds, which reflect the personality of each marriage candidate. Blaire, for example, wears a bright pink cat costume, which suits her feminine personality.

The DLC scenario “Olive Town Mystery Files” is the first time that Story of Seasons has tackled a mystery plot. It follows the protagonist, Mikey, and Cindy in numerous small sub-scenarios as they attempt to solve the various mysteries around Olive Town. Some cases that these modern-day Sherlocks shed light on include whisperings about ghosts and rumors about mermaids.

Though details of the expansion were announced prior to the game’s launch, only recently did XSEED and Marvelous post information on Part 1’s release date. Earlier this week, details about the second wave of DLC for the Japanese version of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town went live. Windswept Falls will introduce four new characters—which includes two marriage candidates—and school uniforms. It will come out on April 28, 2021 in Japan, and May 2021 in other territories.

Part 1 of the Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town DLC will release on April 29, 2021 in North America and Europe. Though Part 2 will come out in May, there is no concrete date yet. The game and expansion are currently available on the Nintendo Switch.

Marvelous shared two new biographies and images for a bachelor and bachelorette through the official Rune Factory 5 website. Naturally, this means that marriage and children will be making a return. First, we'll look at the female marriage candidates for Rune Factory 5. There are currently a total of six bachelorettes the players will be able to choose from.

Priscilla (CV Inori Minase)

As gentle and as bright as the sun, Priscilla was born and raised in Rigbarth. Though she frequently makes mistakes, her cheerful demeanor makes it easy to forgive her. Due to a past incident, she is afraid of leaving Rigbarth, but is trying to overcome that fear.

Scarlett (CV Aya Suzuki)

She is a half-elven girl who currently works as a member of Seed. She is an elite mercenary who wants to follow in the footsteps of her father. She has a serious demeanor, but struggles to keep her composure.

Lucy is Priscilla's childhood friend, and she loves to exercise. She watches over Priscilla to keep her from danger. She hates to lose and will always challenge the protagonist to various contests. She easily becomes close friends with others, but can just as easily feel lonely.

Fuqua is a wereanimal girl that traveled to various lands before coming to Rigbarth. She seemed harsh before arriving at the town, but now she laughs at how she used to be. She cannot speak, read, or write in the human language, but can somehow tell if she is being lied to. She has an honest personality.

Ludmila (CV Sumire Morohoshi)

Ludmila is a succubus who lives for love. Ludmila is selfish girl who who loves to do things last minute and seems to be obsessed with the main character. While she seems selfish, she is serious and has her own ways of doing things. Being a succubus, she used to make people unhappy and, because of this, there is a divide between her and the others.

Beatrice (CV Tomoyo Kurosawa)

Beatrice is a young woman who has some association with the Kingdom of Norad, but appears to keep her true identity hidden. She has a strong sense of responsibility and has numerous talents including playing musical instruments and riding monsters. She didn't intend on staying in Rigbarth, but after meeting the hero and being touched by the kindness of the townspeople her feelings have changed.

Now that we've covered the bases for the current female marriage candidates in Rune Factory 5, we'll provide images and biographies for the male marriage candidates. There are currently six bachelors announced for the game.

Martin (CV Jun Fukuyama)

He's a craftsman apprentice that aims to become the best blacksmith. He is quiet, which leads to people believe he is unfriendly, but there are rumors that he secretly names his favorite tools. Martin always thinks about blacksmithing, but after meeting the hero, his world changes.

Reinhard (CV Natsuki Hanae)

He's a young knight who has pledged his allegiance to the Kingdom of Norad. He is proficient in politics and is quite capable, but his reason for visiting Rigbarth is unknown. He has a strong sense of duty, which causes everyone to rely on him. However, he may show a different side of himself to the hero.

Cecile (CV Ayumu Murase)

The younger brother of Martin, Cecile is an innocent young man who aspires to become a detective. He is a curious young man that can turn any situation into a case with his "Power of Delusion," and gets along well with the hero. As he grew up, he began to grow distant from his brother, but he still cares for Martin. He wants to become a detective to search for his missing parents.

Murakumo (CV Shunsuke Takeuchi)

Murakumo is a young wereanimal who runs the only inn in Rigbarth. Though he is rough, he is empathetic and chivalrous. His desire to entertain his customers often runs his business into the red, due to providing them with extra services. Upon meeting the hero, he uses advice from customer's perspective to help revamp his inn.

Lucas (CV Shotaro Morikubo)

Lucas is a mysterious traveler who appeared in Rigbarth that suffers from amnesia. He keeps record of anything of interest within a notebook that he carries with him. Although he has lost his memory, he still retains some knowledge and is a connoisseur of items like ore.

Lyka (CV Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)

Lyka is a young apprentice carpenter. He is proficient in his craft, as he is dexterous and nimble. During the day, he appears to be absent minded, however at night he shows a cooler, more serious side.

Rune Factory 5 will launch for the Nintendo Switch in Japan on May 20, 2021. A Western release is planned for 2021.
