Square Enix has announced that it will launch a live stream showcasing Xenogears music to mark the game's 27th anniversary. People from all around the world will be able to watch the nine-hour stream on YouTube on February 11, 2025, in American time zones, or February 12, 2025, for the rest of the world.

The company will play various music tracks from Xenogears soundtracks in this stream. It implies that it will play not only the original tracks used in the game but also the album-exclusive arrangements of the tracks.

Squaresoft originally released Xenogears for PlayStation in Japan on February 11, 1998. However, Square Enix will time the worldwide stream in American time zones, even though the game's English localization came out in North America in October 1998. The company's Japanese X acknowledged the discrepancy when it announced the stream, which will go live in Japan on February 12, 2025, from 12 PM until 9 PM JST.

Even though Xenogears has been widely regarded as one of Squaresoft's defining RPG titles, Square Enix has still yet to release the PS1 game on subsequent platforms outside of Game Archives for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation Vita. The company has been instead focused on releasing action figures and model kits based on the title's Gears like Fei's Weltall and Rico's Stier.

Square Enix released a compilation album featuring piano covers of fifteen songs from its games worldwide. While the album originally appeared in Japan, the company is also making it available on its North American and European stores via imports from the former. The album is available for purchase at ¥2,750 / $20.99 / €17.99.

This album contains piano renditions of tracks from various mainline Final Fantasy entries, but it also includes music from Square Enix's other game franchises. Chrono Trigger and NieR Gestalt / Replicant also have two tracks each. Single tracks from Xenogears, Live A Live, Secret of Mana, and SaGa Frontier 2 complete the lineup.

Square Enix has opened pre-orders for the third volume of Xenogears Structure Arts model kits on its Japanese e-Store. The volume will contain 1/144 scale kits of three Gears, and it will cost 21,384 yen (~$143.43) to get all of them.

The Gears featured in this volume will be Fei Fong Wong's upgraded Gear Weltall-2, the alter ego Weltall-Id, and Ricardo "Rico" Banderas' Stier. Each Gear will also have its own stand and connector to enable non-standing poses.

Square Enix is also restocking all of its prior Xenogears Structure Arts kits, which will be re-released on March 29, 2025. The first volume—which originally came out in March 2021—bundled the original Weltall with Elly's Vierge, Citan's Heimdal, and Bart's Brigandier. The second volume included Billy's Renmazuo, Emeralda's Crescens, and the Xenogears. Only Marie's Siebzehn is available for purchase on its own.

The new additions in the third volume mean that Square Enix will complete the model kit lineup with the starting Gears of all Xenogears party (unless you count Chu-Chu, who can grow to a Gear size), as well as Fei's Gear upgrade line.

The third volume of Xenogears Structure Arts model kits will be available on July 26, 2025.

Square Enix has revealed a new mech action figure based on the Weltall from Xenogears. The company has also opened pre-orders for the Form-ism Act figure on its Japanese e-Store with a price tag of 39,600 yen (~$275).

The non-scale action figure of the starting Gear of the game's protagonist Fei Fong Wong will stand at around 20 cm (~7.87 in) tall. Its body parts will have a wide range of movements to help reproduce martial arts poses, such as the high kick. This new figure will also have an original feature where the owner can extend its wing binders to trigger a new mode resembling System Id.

Square Enix had previously released Structure Arts model kits of four Gears from the game, including Weltall, in March 2021. While those kits required the owner to assemble the Gears, this new action figure will come pre-built with die-cast ts. Square Enix also had the Gear's designer Junya Ishigaki supervise the action figure's production to make sure it stayed true to the original design.

The Form-ism Act action figure of the Weltall from Xenogears will be available on February 22, 2025.

Square Enix announced the songs for the Theatrhythm Final Bar Line Xenogears DLC pack. Three tracks from the game will be included. The company previously announced the pack as part of the Season 3 DLC line-up. It will be released on September 20, 2023.

The pack contains three Xenogears tracks playable in Theatrhythm Final Bar Line. These are:

• “Awakening”
• “Blazing Knights”
• “Soaring”

All three tracks were composed by Yasunori Mitsuda, who is also well known for his work on Chrono Trigger. He recently composed music for Sea of Stars.

This isn’t the first time that songs from outside the Final Fantasy series have appeared in Theatrhythm Final Bar Line. Other Square Enix games besides Xenogears that have received DLC packs include Chrono Trigger, The World Ends With You, Nier Automata and the SaGa series. There will be more Final Fantasy music too though, as a Final Fantasy XVI pack is on its way in November 2023.

Xenogears released on the PlayStation in 1998 and is considered one of the greatest RPGs released for the system. It was originally conceived as a pitch for Final Fantasy VII before becoming its own game. Following its release, director Tetsuya Takahashi formed his own company, Monolith Soft, which went on to create the Xenosaga and Xenoblade Chronicles franchises.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is out now for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The Xenogears pack will be released on September 20, 2023.

Square Enix revealed a new set of figures based on Maria Balthasar and Chu-Chu from Xenogears. They are part of the Bring Arts line of figures, and both Maria and Chu-Chu are included in the same set. The price of the figures is 16,280 JPY (roughly $123 USD). The estimated release date for the set is December 23, 2023. The figure set is available now for pre-order from  from the official Square Enix eStore website.

The figures recreate both Xenogears characters, including Maria’s elaborate hairstyle, her signature ribbon, and goggles. The figure set comes with a transparent acrylic stand for Maria, along with different parts, which includes different arms, hands, and faces. Maria’s figure is also fully posable. Chu-Chu’s figure doesn’t include any parts, and it has two different posable positions, these being standing and sitting.

In October 2022, Square Enix included Xenogears songs in two of their latest chill and EDM remix albums.

Square Enix has released two new albums containing chill and EDM remixes of its games' songs, and both of them include music from Xenogears. The company published Mellow Minstrel Mix Vol.2 and Airship Cruise Beats Vol.2 on October 26, 2022, which are available for purchase digitally.

Each album contains a couple of Xenogears songs. Mellow Minstrel Mix Vol.2 features chill remixes of "A Distant Promise" (also known as "Faraway Promise") and the ending song "Small Two of Pieces." Meanwhile, Airship Cruise Beats Vol.2 features EDM renditions of "Dark Dawn" (Dark Daybreak) and "Soaring" (Flight).

The tracklist for Mellow Minstrel Mix Vol.2 is as follows:

This marks the first time that tracks from the 1998 PlayStation title Xenogears appear in Square Enix's Chill and EDM remixes. The company had previously released the first volumes for both collections on March 9, 2022. Tracks from Final Fantasy, NieR, SaGa, and Mana series also appeared since the first launch. However, the first volumes instead featured tracks from the 1995 entry Chrono Trigger, such as "Peaceful Days" and "Frog's Theme."

Square Enix's chill Mellow Minstrel Mix and EDM Airship Cruise Beats albums are available for purchase digitally via Apple Music.

Once again, Xenogears characters will be heading to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. On February 10, 2022, the Celestial Machinery crossover event will begin. In addition to opportunities to summon Neo Vision Grahf and Neo Vision Id, everyone can get a free unit. Fei will be given away for free. There will also be a chance to redeem event points for Billy and Emeralda,

Both Grahf and Id will have Brave Shift forms. Grahf will be an earth-type character. He also uses physical attacks. When using him, his Brave Shift form will be Alpha Weltall. Likewise, Id can go between his normal form and Weltall-Id. In each case, he’s uses fire-type physical attacks.

The first Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Xenogears event appeared back in 2019. Back then, people could get Bart, Billy, Chu-Chu, Citan, Fei, Elly, Emeralda, Maria, and Rico. The free Fei people can get now is identical to the one from back then.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is available for Android and Apple iOS devices. Celestial Machinery will run in-game between February 10-23, 2022.

Final Fantasy IV's Lunar Whale stands out as one of the strangest, neatest vehicles I've come across in an RPG. There was just something so bizarre about flying to the moon on a whale that I've never forgotten the thing. Plus, the music while you fly? It infuses the game with so much excitement in a moment that's a bit nerve-wracking. You're about to go to the moon and face your most dangerous foes ever! But this music is there to fill you with energy before you dive into danger.

Plus, it has a Fat Chocobo on-deck, which is always a plus for space travel. Except then the whole ship smells like chocobo. — Joel

There are lots of cool vehicles in RPGs, but most of them are more conceptually interesting than fun to ride. There's one, though, that opens up the world in such a profound way that it's a real game-changer: Dragon Quest Builders 2's Buggy Buggy! It's an endgame acquisition, sure. But zipping through the air gives you easier access to heights, as well as a fun way to view all you've designed and built along your adventure. (And hey: that name is a lot of fun to say. The Yggdrasil from Xenogears left the biggest impression on me. I fondly how the ship would upgrade gradually as I progressed further in the story. At first it was only confined to traversing sands. Eventually it gained access to the seas and even skies. The ship has one more big upgrade that satiated the mecha fanboy inside me. That made me wonder: could it have even gone to space? — Kite

The vast majority of role-playing games don't have room for complex driving or piloting mechanics. Thus, they tend to boil down vehicles to their most utilitarian conceptual basis: A way to get from point A to point B faster. In fact, with few exceptions, vehicles usually play such a small role in RPG mechanics that even beloved vehicles like Mass Effect's Normandy or Final Fantasy VII's Highwind are really more like locations that just happen to move.

That in mind, my favorite RPG vehicle is my personal starship from Star Trek Online. In STO, your vehicle is as much an extension of you as anything else. It bears as much or more investment in of time spent on getting and improving equipment and learning skills as any other. That means the U.S.S. Bellator, my custom-outfitted Arbiter-class Starfleet Battle Cruiser. I outfitted her, customized her appearance, and blew up thousands of alien aggressors with her phaser banks. She feels as uniquely my possession as the Highwind was for Cid, I'd imagine. — Josh

It may be the inner horse girl in me, but I've always loved animal "vehicles" a lot in RPGs. Because of that, I really enjoyed flying around as some of the Tales animals. Like Ba'ul in Tales of Vesperia! And Shaorune in Tales of Rebirth! Shaorune is especially fun, since the party are inside of the gem he holds in his hand when he flies around. With the addition of quick travel in newer Tales games, we haven't gotten any flying animals in a while now. And that's a shame. I hope Tales of Arise will give us another winged whale or similar creature. — Stephanie

Square Enix will release Xenogears Structure Arts Vol.1 plastic model kit series on March 27, 2021. With just 8,712 yen, you will be able to get a set of four 1/144 kits based on the Gears piloted by the main characters in the classic RPG. [Thanks, Inside Games!]

The four Gears included in this set are the Weltall used by the Xenogears protagonist Fei Fong Wong, the Vierge piloted by the heroine Elhaym "Elly" Van Houten, Citan Uzuki's Heimdal, and Bartholomew "Bart" Fatima's Brigander. Each unit will have its own pedestal, along with several alternative hand parts. Every unit other than Fei's martial arts-focused Weltall will also come with its own unique weapons.

Square Enix noted that these Xenogears plastic models comprised the second batch in the Structure Arts series. The first honor went to Front Mission, which saw a set of 1/72 kits of Zenith, Giza, Drake, and Numsekar released in October 2020. The Front Mission kits came in plain colors, so it's up to the builder to recolor them as you like.

Xenogears is a classic RPG that was released by Squaresoft for the first PlayStation in 1998. It is also available to play on PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3, with a Game Archives edition released in June 2008. Square Enix also released a Bring Arts figure of Fei Fong Wong in August 2018.

It turns out hopes of continuing one series is what led to a formation of a studio that has since become known for its RPGs. A June 2020 Famitsu interview with Monolith Soft’s Hirohide Sugiura talked about the dreams of perhaps somehow creating a Xenogears 2. However, it instead ended up leading to series like Xenosaga and Xenoblade. [Thanks, Nintendo Everything!]

As noted by Nintendo Everything's Oni Dino, Sugiura said in the interview that he fell in love with Xenogears, even though he wasn’t a part of the team that helped make it. It was released in 1998, right when Square was going to be working and investing in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which would come out in 2001. Since the company was making that decision, Xenogears 2 wasn’t going to be a possibility.

That’s what led to Sugiura founding Monolith Soft with Tetsuya Takahashi and Yasuyuki Honne in 1999, with the help of Namco founder Masaya Nakamura. Since of the new developer still wanted to carry on Xenogears’ legacy, its first project ended up being Xenosaga Episode I in 2002 for the PlayStation 2.

While it started out as a Namco, and then Bandai Namco studio, it ended up being acquired by Nintendo in 2007. As of February 2020, it had over 243 employees and created a whole new successor to the series. Sugiura remains its president and as noted by him in the Famitsu interview, the Xenoblade series is now another means of carrying out a Xenogears 2 sort of dream. In the Nintendo Everything-translated interview, he said he considered it a “prototype” for the goal.

Xenogears was originally released for the PlayStation in Japan and North America, though it eventually become a PSOne Classic for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation Vita. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition will come to the Nintendo Switch on May 29, 2020.
