Video games can be about escapism, and for many people that means a love story. Gaming has some of the most beautiful romances of all media, but sometimes you want a little more gameplay than a visual novel offers. That’s where these games come in. Blending romantic stories with other gaming genres, they will warm your heart and your hands. Here are ten of our favorite dating sims on Switch that aren’t visual novels.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses zm5h

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a strategy RPG at its core, but the biggest decision you make is whether to the Black Eagles, Blue Lions, or Golden Deer. In fact, it's one of the most iconic Switch dating sims. There are different characters you can romance, date, and eventually marry. Not only does this make you feel warm inside, but gives certain bonuses to those units.

This idea isn’t unique to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and the system is a key part of the Fire Emblem series. However, we’ve chosen Three Houses as our representative here, specifically because of the Three Houses system. Picking your houses locks you out of certain romance options, and gives you even more reason to start another playthrough.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 632g4o

This is a cheeky entry as there aren’t dating options in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but there are a few games on this list that just have a romantic story at their core. The Xenoblade series is known for two things: beautifully synergistic action RPG gameplay, and a heartbreaking story. In the series the third entry has a special place in our hearts.

The touching relationship between Noah and Mio aside – which we won’t be spoiling – those who are desperate for stats to go up can get that too. The affinity system allows characters to unlock new classes, and there are almost 20 characters you can recruit, giving players the best of both worlds.

Stardew Valley 6810v

If you don’t know what Stardew Valley is by now you have probably been living under a rock. The smash hit farming sim in the vein of Harvest Moon has taken over the life of many gamers. After your grandpa es on, he offers you his old plot of farmland in the village of Stardew Valley. You start out by clearing out the farm so you can plant crops, and then you get invested in helping spirits rebuild the community center.

There is a surprising amount going on in Stardew Valley. Aside from farming you will go mining, fishing, attend festivals, and of course date the people of the town. There are a dozen villagers that are single and ready to mingle. Getting married offers benefits, including the addition of children in your hand-built home. Just be prepared that if you decide to play Stardew Valley that you might lose hundreds of hours of your life to it.

Undertale 5u5g1v

You only get into the dating sim elements of Undertale after you have finished the main game, so if you’re looking explicitly for games with plenty of dates then you should probably on this one. However, it is one of the best games of all time, known for its excellent character development, unexpected writing and dialogue, and the way it twists players' expectations.

Most people probably know the twist of Undertale at this point, but we won’t spoil it here just in case. It tells the story of a child who falls into a mysterious underworld filled with strange creatures who confront them at every turn. However, alongside those who attack them on sight, they find those who want to help. It’s about the relationships we have with others, and most of all forgiveness.

Unpacking 335z2g

You don’t choose who you date in Unpacking, but you do experience the main character's romantic history, including the highs and lows through the gameplay. It’s the epitome of show don’t tell, where the entire story is told via the things that are taken with them when they move house. The house itself tells a story, as our protagonist moves from her parents house, to a shared house, to a partner’s house, and back to their parents’ house again, and beyond.

It’s amazing just how much can be conveyed without a single word. Instead, you can see not just how their relationships blossom or wilt, but their career path, their religion, and their hobbies. Above all decorating and organizing the different places they live is incredibly satisfying even if you don’t care for the wordless story of love and loss.

Catherine: Full Body 2g3u4f

Catherine Full Body Key Art

Created by many of the people who also worked on the modern Persona series, Catherine: Full Body shows more than a few of those games’ signature hallmarks. The story starts with our main character Vincent, who has been with his girlfriend Katherine for a long time. She is beginning to grow impatient waiting for marriage, and give him an ultimatum. Following this very serious conversation he finds himself waking up every morning to the young, seductive Catherine.

By day Vincent talks about his dilemma with his friends at his favorite bar The Stray Sheep, which is where he also meets his third potential love interest, the kind-hearted Rin. He also tries to guide the other customers of the bar through the struggles of their lives. At night, he is stuck climbing a nightmarish tower of block puzzles, alongside the other customers, who are also working through their issues as well. A trippy and heart-warming adventure.

Cassette Beasts 5c4h4p

Cassette Beasts is a creature collector like Pokémon, but it bears only a ing resemblance to Game Freak’s monster franchise. Instead of catching beasts you will record them on ‘90s style cassette tapes, and though you use them in battle, the one that’s truly in the firing line is you. Unlike the Pokémon games you will never be fighting alone; the power of friendship is always on your side.

As you continue through the story you will find more characters to you on your journey. They each have their own missions they are trying to accomplish. If you help them out, then you will grow closer to them either as friends or, if you like, lovers in this Switch dating sim. Except the dog. You aren’t allowed to date the dog.

Eternights 414a6m

Many Switch dating sims add romantic elements as just another feature that you can choose to interact with or not. Eternights puts the dating part of the action RPG at the forefront, and the ending that you receive completely changes based on who you choose. It’s one of the most impactful dating choices in gaming, outside of a visual novel.

The apocalypse is here, and after a long stint in an underground dungeon you emerge to find that those who remained on the surface have turned into monsters. After a supernatural encounter where your arm is ripped off and replaced with a weapon, you decide to get to the heart of the issue alongside any survivors you find along the way. Luckily, most of those survivors happen to be cute girls.

Boyfriend Dungeon a222m

Boyfriend Dungeon does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a dungeon crawler that is full of boyfriends, girlfriends, non-binary friends, and a cat. Set in a world of wielders and weapons, you create a bond with your armory who also happen to be handsome suitors. The stronger your bond when your weapons are in human/feline form, the better they perform in the dungeons.

What makes Boyfriend Dungeon unique is how it handles your relationships. Some partners will be happy with you dating around, others will want you to be monogamous. Some are just a fling, and others want to be your life-long love. There are many flavors of relationship, and even some hidden suitors to find.

A Space for the Unbound 2o716u

Screenshot from A Space for the Unbound
Image via Mojiken

This is one of the few games that has made me cry ugly tears, and that is a testament to how touching the story is. A Space for the Unbound isn't really a Switch dating sim with stats that go up and down, but it does tell the touching romance between Atma and Raya. When Raya is having a hard time Atma is always there to cheer her up, but he’s left unsure if that’s the right thing to do.

Raya discovers that she has developed psychic abilities that allow her to warp the world around her to her whims. Atma explores the Indonesian village in which they both live, and has to decide what the best course of action is to help her. As he is dragged through many of her painful memories, he has to decide whether placating her, or tough love is the best way to help Raya heal in this heartwarming story.

There are lots of JRPGs coming out constantly from Atlus, Square Enix, and other Japanese publishers but only a few consoles and platforms are the best for them. Whether you are trying to play previously released titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or check out games like Metaphor Re:Fantazio, these are the best consoles for JRPGs today.

Best Consoles for JRPGs Today: PS5 3m263e

If I had to pick an overall best console today for JRPGs, it would have to be the PlayStation 5 and its more powerful sibling, the PS5 Pro. There is the obvious point in how it is much more powerful than the second console for JRPGs, but also its library as well. The PS5 has the most possible JRPGs since exclusives like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI, and more demanding third-party games like Tales of Arise are there.

This even includes games that aren’t yet available on PC and may potentially never be. If you are looking for the best console to play JRPGs these days, this is the one.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Patch

Nintendo Switch 2j6540

The runner-up console I would recommend to JRPG fans these days is the Nintendo Switch. This will likely extend to its eventual successor as well. What it lacks in power and graphics, it makes up for in its versatility. You can play amazing JRPGs like Persona 5 Royal and Trails through Daybreak on the go anywhere you like.

In addition, the Nintendo Switch does have its own selection of worthy exclusive JRPGs. Games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions are all phenomenal games you can’t play anywhere else. Plus, it has access to older titles through the Nintendo Switch Online like Earthbound.

Honorable Mention: Steam Deck 30121j

Finally, an honorable mention worth considering is the Steam Deck. While technically a PC, it is like the Switch in its portability. It has access many different third-party JRPGs, plus plenty of JRPG-inspired indies like Sea of Stars. Though it lacks some in the hardware department, it makes up for that with its emulation potential for other consoles. However, be very careful when navigating that legally gray area.

Good Smile Company has opened pre-orders for its figma of Eunie from Xenoblade Chronicles 3. People from all around the world can order the action figure from the company's international web store at ¥12,800 (~$87.75). People residing in the U.S. and Canada should also be able to order from Good Smile Online Shop U.S. However, the American website is inaccessible as of this writing due to its server getting congested.

The action figure will have an approximate total height of around 145mm (5.7 inches), which includes the wings on Eunie's head. The set will come with two alternate facial expression plates and four alternate hand poses for each side. It will also include a customizable Gunrod and a sealed letter.

Eunie's figma has been one of the most anticipated figure releases, and Good Smile Company gradually provided updates on the action figure's development. The company first revealed an unpainted prototype of the figma in February 2024. See the Eunie Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Figma Figure

Back in February 2024, Good Smile Company announced a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 figma figure of Eunie. At Smile Fest 2024, she reemerged as a painted prototype.

Eunie is wearing her original Medic Gunner outfit for the figma. She’s also wielding her Gunrod. The faceplate used for the photo is a standard, smiling expression. No other accessories are shown beyond her Blade.

Here’s how the Eunie Xenoblade Chronicles 3 figma looks so far:

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1819535428564733989

Eunie is the second figma based on a character from the game. The first was one of Mio. That one is immediately available. To give an idea of what to expect from the newest figma, the Mio Xenoblade Chronicles 3 figure is $85.99. She came with four face plates, her Moonblades, and also extra diary, flute, and hair parts.

Prior to this, we've really only seen Mio Xenoblade Chronicles 3 figures. She showed up as a scale figure before. Nintendo also released an amiibo NFC figure of her with Noah designed to work with the game and unlock items, as well as act as a collectible.

There is no release window for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Eunie figma yet. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is available worldwide on the Nintendo Switch.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Patch

Nintendo released new patch notes for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 2.1.1. They address some issues regarding the gameplay of the Stalker class, and audio issues for players that do not have the Expansion . The patch appeared on the evening of September 12, 2023.

The new Xenoblade Chronicles 3 patch focuses on tuning the Staying Power Art of the Stalker class. Staying Power deploys a Field of Effect that grants the Art Follow-Up buff to of the party. Art Follow-Up deals damage equal to 2 times the attack stat of the character who set the Field.

Previously, when using Fusion Arts within the Field would cause the Follow-Up Attack damage to be dealt to of the party. The patch has fixed this and now the ability works as intended.

Additionally, the patch fixes an issue for players that did not own the Expansion where the Special Hero BGM, Audio environment in Audio Setting, and Notifications would not display in the menus.

Here are the full Xenoblade Chronicles 3 patch notes for 2.1.1.

Bug Fixes

 • Fixed an issue where not having the Expansion would cause the Special Hero BGM, Audio environment in Audio Setting, as well as Notifications to not display.

 • Fixed an issue with Staying Power’s Art Follow-Up, where activating Fusion Arts would cause the Follow-Up Attack damage to be dealt to the character using Fusion Arts and allies.

The previous Ver. 2.1.0 patch appeared on July 19, 2023, and it added compatibility with the new Pyra and Mythra amiibo figures, allowing for the Swordfighter class to equip the Pyra and Mythra Aegis swords as a skin replacing the default sword.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is available for the Nintendo Switch. Future Redeemed is a DLC expansion for the game, and it appeared with Wave 4 of the Expansion DLC.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Pyra Mythra Sword

Nintendo released the new update for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that adds compatibility for the new Pyra and Mythra amiibo and allows for both Aegis swords to be used as cosmetics. The Aegis swords can also be accessed without the figurines by completing certain steps after talking to a new NPC. Additionally, the update also adds some bug fixes for the Future Connected DLC expansion.

The Pyra and Mythra amiibo add their respective Aegis swords to the Swordfighter class in the main Xenoblade Chronicles 3 game. To be able to equip the swords, players will need to access the Clothing menu on a character equipped with the Swordfighter class, then select the Attachments menu to change the appearance of the weapon.

This can be done after scanning the figures or after completing a series of steps when talking to Miibomii, a new Nopon NPC located at the Llyn Nyddwr Camp in the Fornis region.

Additionally, some of the bug fixes added to the Future Connected DLC expansion include increasing the percentage chance of re-aquiring Battle, Tactics, and Strategy Manuals from certain enemies, fixing an issue related to rematching the final battle of the DLC, and fixing a progression issue in Chapter 2 related to the "Pursue Glimmer” main quest.

The Pyra and Mythra amiibo double-pack releases on July 21, 2023. Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are available for the Nintendo Switch. As a reminder, Noah and Mio amiibo are also in development.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Mio Figure Can Wield her Dual Moonblades or Flute

Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Mio figma, and the figure will appear worldwide in 2024. It will first show up in Japan. The release window for it there is February 2024, and it will cost ¥12,000. In North America, there's a more generic Q2 2024 releasw window and $85.99 price tag. The last time we saw it was back in February 2023, when Good Smile Company showed an unpainted prototype.

All of Mio’s face plates and accessories pull from moments in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. For example, she has a neutral, relaxed face, one with closed eyes for when she’s performing her Offseer duties, a face plate where she’s smiling, and another where she’s yelling as if during a fight. You can pose her with her hair long or short. There’s also a flute for offseeing, a diary for keeping her notes as her time approaches, and the Dual Moonblades she wields as a Zephyr.

Here's a closer look at her:

There’s also a special video showing some of Mio’s poses from different angles.

Should You Beat Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Before Future Redeemed? 4l5t2c https://siliconera.voiranime.info/should-you-beat-xenoblade-chronicles-3-before-future-redeemed/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=should-you-beat-xenoblade-chronicles-3-before-future-redeemed https://siliconera.voiranime.info/should-you-beat-xenoblade-chronicles-3-before-future-redeemed/#respond <![CDATA[Jenni Lada]]> Wed, 26 Apr 2023 02:10:50 +0000 <![CDATA[Nintendo Switch]]> <![CDATA[Europe]]> <![CDATA[Guides]]> <![CDATA[Japan]]> <![CDATA[Monolith Soft]]> <![CDATA[Nintendo]]> <![CDATA[North America]]> <![CDATA[Xenoblade Chronicles 3]]> https://siliconera.voiranime.info/?p=960769 <![CDATA[

Should You Beat Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Before Future Redeemed?

The Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed expansion is here, and someone might wonder if they should or need to beat the main campaign before playing the DLC. It's a good question! Especially since characters from past Xenoblade Chronicles games, like Shulk and Rex, both appear. Not to mention it references a lot of things people don't see in the third entry until they're well into its story or perhaps even beat it. Nintendo doesn't bar you from starting it if you haven't completed the main Xenoblade Chronicles 3 campaign, so you can select that story right away.

So should you beat Xenoblade Chronicles 3 before starting Future Redeemed? 6r4f3t

If you want to, you can. It isn't necessary. However, due to the appearances of certain characters and storyline elements, I'd say at least getting to chapter six in the main campaign first. There are a lot of details about the City and the world's past that are touched on here. That extra context could hel you out a lot.

Do I need to beat Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2 before Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed? 1a597

The additional context helps a lot. All three games are connected, and knowing who Shulk and Rex are and why they matter is a big deal. Especially since both characters play parts in this new storyline. Those are both massive games, however. If you beat them a while back or played some of them, it will help a lot to offer context. But if you really care more about Xenoblade Chronicles 3, want to just jump into it, and are okay with spoilers, it might be wise to read up on what happened in both games first.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the Future Redeemed DLC, and patch 2.0.0 are available for the Nintendo Switch.

How to start and play Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed DLC 5b2o2d

First, buy the Expansion for Xenoblade Chronicles 3. It's $29.99 on the eShop. Unlike Torna - The Golden Country, it isn't sold in any standalone form. When you do make this purchase, you'll also get the previous three waves of content that add new heroes, costumes, and challenges to the main game.

Next, after updating your game to 2.0.0 and ing the DLC, head into the main game. On the starting menu, there's a new banner that tells you to press the cross button to access the Future Redeemed expansion. There’ll be a brief warning that explains how greatly it ties into past games, in the event you haven’t beaten them. However, you don’t need to beat the game and can hop right into that storyline.

Once you’re on the Future Redeemed title screen, you can start a new game. It will then let choose the Easy, Normal, or Hard difficult level and begin. (The difficulty can be changed in the options at any time.)

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and the Future Redeemed DLC are available for the Nintendo Switch.
