The 34th JUMPMV music video will feature “Lovers” from Naruto Shippuden. It will premiere on YouTube at 7pm JST on March 28, 2025 (3am PDT/6am EDT).

“Lovers” is a song by 7!! (Seven Oops). It was the ninth opening for the Naruto Shippuden anime, running from episodes 206 to 230. You can listen to it here:

In the thumbnail for the music video, we can see an image of Sakura from the manga. According to the video description, the video will also heavily focus on her, as well as the rest of Team 7. Coincidentally or not, March 28th is also Sakura’s birthday.

The Shonen Jump channel on YouTube started ing its JUMPMV almost exactly two years ago on March 27, 2023. Naruto was one of the first manga series it made a video on, and the first one used Asian Kung-Fu Generation’s “Haruka Kanata.” Another one that came out around that time used DOES’s “Shura” for a Gintama video. Since then, Shueisha has released these videos for several other popular manga series, such as Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen, at a pretty frequent rate.

Naruto Shippuden is readily available on streaming platforms such as Crunchyroll, and Viz Media licensed the manga for an English release.

Weekly Shonen Jump has released chapter 401 of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter. Those who are reading it in English can read it, along with chapters 399 and 400, for free via Viz Media’s website.

The chapter title is “Moonlight” and it’s 24 pages long. Most of the chapter centers around Kurapika’s meeting with Longhi, which is full of wild revelations and implications for the grander plot of the Succession Contest Arc. Considering the chapter before this one came out in late 2022, one might need a refresher as to what in the world was going on.

As a reminder, from chapter 401 onwards, Hunter x Hunter will no longer be a weekly series. Back in 2022, Togashi and the Jump editorial team announced this news, stating that this change was due to Togashi’s health. Togashi is still writing the story and the editorial team will continue to him until he finishes his series. It’s just that Hunter x Hunter will appear on a different schedule and with a different method in the future. Togashi also stated that he’s thinking of how he can best continue the series without causing too much trouble to others.

Hunter x Hunter is available in Weekly Shonen Jump and you can read it in English through Viz Media. The Madhouse anime adaptation is available to watch through Crunchyroll. A fighting game, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, is also in development.

The Jump Manga Award is starting soon, and My Hero Academia mangaka Kohei Horikoshi drew the poster for it. The poster features Deku, Ichigo, Asta, and Yuji making battle poses.

The reason why it’s those four is that the mangaka for their respective series are the judges this time. Tite Kubo (Bleach), Kohei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia), Gege Akutami (Jujutsu Kaisen), and Yuki Tabata (Black Clover) will personally look at and critique all of the final candidates for the award. The winner and runner-ups can also get prize money from this competition, and they have a guaranteed future at Weekly Shonen Jump.

This year, you can submit any manga so long as it focuses on battle action and is under 47 pages long. You’ll have until January 20, 2025 to hand it in, and you can be either an amateur or a professional. For professionals, you can submit something for this competition even if you already have an ongoing series with another manga magazine. Shueisha will announce the winner in late March 2025.

As for Kohei Horikoshi, the artist of the poster, his most famous manga series My Hero Academia recently ended on August 5, 2024. It ran for a little over ten years, as it started on July 7, 2014. It has been a critical and commercial success, with many adaptations such as an anime and several movies. Though he didn’t work on the poster, fellow Jump mangaka Gege Akutami will also be ending his series Jujutsu Kaisen in about five more chapters.

The Jump Manga Award is open until January 20, 2025.

From April 26 to May 26, 2024, a collaboration event and cafe will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Bleach. The event will have two parts: an exhibition of signature scenes from the anime and manga and a collaboration cafe. [Thanks, PR Times!]

News of this event first appeared in late March 2024. However, at the time, it was unclear what kind of event this would be. The Locus of Brave part of the event will allow visitors to look at dynamic decorations, as well as artwork from the Bleach anime and manga. As for the collaboration cafe, the characters will look like regular high schoolers. This includes people who weren’t high schoolers in the original setting.

The reason why the characters look like regular high schoolers is because this is from the High School Warfare April Fool’s joke. Because of that, the food items you can get are either jokes on common Japanese school tropes or references to the characters’ in-universe seating numbers. For example, Ichigo and Renji’s dishes are “Hayaben Taiketsu,” which are lunch boxes. “Hayaben” in Japanese is a term for when you eat your lunch before it’s actually lunchtime. As for the limited goods, you can expect to find pretty ordinary items. There will be can badges, acrylic stands, postcards, and keychains. Merchandise will use both the Locus of Brave key visual and the High School Warfare designs.

The Bleach event in Japan will take place from April 26 to May 26, 2024. Tickets start from 1300 JPY ($8.55), and they'll take place at the Yokohama Landmark Tower.

Ken Wakui, the author of Tokyo Revengers, will start his new manga, Negai no Astro, from the 20th issue of Shonen Jump. It will be a series focusing on outlaws engaging in supernatural battles. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

Negai no Astro, or Astro’s Wish, will start serialization later in April 2024. There’s not much concrete information about the plot. It seems that it’ll focus on a character named Hibaru, who will participate in a major conflict within the Sekengumi group as to who will inherit it. Reading this descriptor makes Negai no Astro sound quite similar to Tokyo Revengers. While Tokyo Revengers wasn’t about the yakuza, it was about delinquents and gangs.

Ken Wakui’s first work was Shinjuku Swan, which ran from 2005 to 2013 in Weekly Young Magazine. While he released several other series between then, it was Tokyo Revengers that pushed his name to the mainstream for anime and manga fans. While at first, Tokyo Revengers seems like it’s about delinquents and crime, it has a lot of science fiction themes, such as time travel. The main plot of the story focuses on the protagonist, Takemichi Hanagaki, who goes back in time to change the past and save his middle-school girlfriend. It ran from 2017 to 2022.

Negai no Astro, a new manga from Ken Wakui of Tokyo Revengers fame, will start serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 20, which should come out on April 15, 2024, in Japan.

The Weekly Shonen Jump YouTube channel now has voiced manga of Kagurabachi. This is the first time that a series has ever been adapted for a “manga animation” in English. [Thanks, Shonen Jump News!]

The first chapter is around sixteen minutes long, while the second and third are about eight minutes each. While the voices are still in Japanese, the text uses English text. So people who might not understand Japanese can still follow along. Though this is the Japanese channel for Weekly Shonen Jump, as of the time of writing, virtually all of the comments for the Kagurabachi manga animation are in English.

The reason why Kagurabachi’s manga animation appeared in English on the YouTube channel is likely due to Shueisha taking notice of Kagurabachi’s overseas popularity. The series started serialization in September 2023 but quickly rose through the manga rankings. At first, s were semi-ironically praising Kagurabachi and calling it the best manga of all time. Some even jokingly listed it as one of The Big Three, meaning it was on the level of Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece.

However, those who post about Kagurabachi nowadays are likely genuine fans of the series. In Japan, people who like it are legitimate as well, since it was never a meme there. Many popular manga artists, such as My Hero Academia's Horikoshi, have recommended it as well.

Kagurabachi is running in Weekly Shonen Jump, with Viz releasing the chapters in English.

Shueisha is the publisher, and the volume will cost 550 JPY, which equates to around $3.70. It’ll be available as a physical copy in most bookstores, and you can order it online. For those who don’t want a physical book, you can also get a digital copy. Viz Media has licensed the series for English. However, they have not made a statement yet regarding when overseas readers can expect Volume 1 of Kagurabachi.

Kagurabachi is a Weekly Shonen Jump series that started serialization in September 2023. Takeru Hokazono is both the writer and the illustrator. It’s an action-fantasy battle manga revolving around Chihiro pursuing a group of sorcerers after they killed his father. In the story, the protagonist wields an enchanted sword that his father, a renowned blacksmith, made. One of Chihiro's goals is to retrieve the other enchanted swords, which the sorcerers had taken away.

Kagurabachi is available to read in Weekly Shonen Jump. Volume 1 of Kagurabachi will come out in Japan on February 2, 2024, and there is no information on a release date for the English version.

Ever since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999, Naruto has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. With its popular Shippuden anime adaptation and spin-off series consisting of decades of material, we wanted to discuss who we think is the best Naruto character in the entire franchise.

I feel like Gaara is such a cop-out answer because who doesn't like Gaara? But no matter how I rack my brain, I can't really think of a Naruto character I legitimately like more than him (I like Itachi too, but I feel like Itachi is also everyone's favorite). His character arc was really intriguing, his character design after the time skip was super nice, and Ishida Akira knocked it out of the park with his performance. My only complaint about Gaara is that I don't like to play as him in the Naruto games. — Stephanie 

I adore Kakashi and think he’s the best Naruto character. He’s a good teacher who cares about his students but isn’t above being a little silly and childish sometimes. Which is especially appreciated, seeing he can have those moments considering his past. I want only the best for him and all his dogs. — Jenni

Maybe not the most conventional answer, but my favorite character in Naruto is Hinata Hyuga. While the series has many great arcs, I really related to her journey from starting out as a shy person to becoming an absolute warrior. Considering she could only speak a few words when Naruto is first introduced to her, it's just incredible to see her fight alongside him as the series progresses. I think many people can relate to her story of being timid due to wanting to please others. That is why I found it so satisfying when she eventually finds her voice and becomes a formidable foe who can stand by Naruto's side. — Brent

A short spin-off manga that will take place after the events of Dr. Stone will appear in Weekly Shonen Jump. It’ll start in Issue #49, which should come out on November 6, 2023. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

In total, there will be three chapters, and the first chapter will be 49 pages long. The spin-off will run on a condensed schedule, meaning that it will tell its story in shorter time but take up more pages in the magazine per week. It’s unclear if this will affect any of the existing works in Weekly Shonen Jump, or if readers will simply purchase a thicker volume for three weeks. Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi, who worked on the original Dr. Stone, will return to work on this spin-off.

As for the plot, the spin-off of Dr. Stone will show Senku working on a time machine. Due to how short the manga will be, it may focus on a what-if scenario in which Senku goes back in time to prevent the Stone World from happening. The plot of the main Dr. Stone series revolves on prodigy Senku Ishigami, who wakes up after a mysterious flash petrifies all humans on the planet. With his scientific expertise, he wakes up other petrified humans and work together to establish a new world order and civilization based on science.

The Dr. Stone spin-off manga will start in Issue #49 of Weekly Shonen Jump. You can also read the manga in English from Viz Media. The anime is also readily available on Crunchyroll.

Hunter x Hunter author Yoshihiro Togashi posted on his personal social media after being absent online for nearly 7 months. The new post reads “start over” in English and is accompanied by a picture of a manga page alongside a ruler. Currently, the Hunter x Hunter manga has been on hiatus since late December 2022.

Back when the hiatus was originally announced, the Weekly Shonen Jump editorial department confirmed that it will announce the return of the series. While there has not been an official announcement yet, Yoshihiro Togashi showed his progress on chapter 401 of Hunter x Hunter back on March 9, 2023, which could indicate how close the manga is to returning.

The Hunter x Hunter manga is known for having experienced multiple hiatus during its run. This is due to author Togashi’ health complications. In previous interviews, Togashi explained that back and hip issues prevent him from sitting down for long, and that he often has to lay down while drawing.

In his previous 401 chapter update, Togashi gave a brief update on his health, stating that he had been able to sit at a desk for longer every day, something he was very happy about.

Hunter x Hunter is available in Weekly Shonen Jump, and Viz Media publishes the manga outside Japan. The 2011 version of the anime is available on Crunchyroll and Netflix.

DeNa has announced a new MOBA game in cooperation with Shueisha titled JUMP: Assemble. The game is being developed for Android and iOS mobile devices. It will be released in Southeast Asia and East Asia (excluding Japan) first in 2024. There are plans to release the game in other regions gradually. [Thanks, Denfaminico Gamer!]

JUMP: Assemble is a 5-on-5 team battle game featuring popular characters from past titles that appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump, such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and more. DeNa plans to add additional new playable characters to the game after the initial launch.

The announcement for JUMP: Assemble was first announced on DeNa’s official social media . The post included a link to DeNa’s official website, where a key graphic and further information about the game was shared. In the artwork, we can see some of the featured playable Weekly Shonen Jump characters that will be present in the game at launch.

Shuiesha announced that a brand new Shonen Jump manga series titled Tsuruko Returns the Favor (Tsuruko no Ongaeshi) will begin serialization on August 25, 2023. The manga is written and illustrated by Yokoyama Hidari, who published several one-shots for Shonen Jump+ in the past. Now, Hidari's new story is a forbidden love comedy.

The setting of the story is said to be a "concept cafe." Concept cafes are a phenomenon that originated in Akihabara, Japan, born from otaku culture. These cafes can adopt any theme, whether it's maids, cats, or even robots. In the promotional image, a character is pictured wearing a maid-like outfit.

Shonen Jump+ is an online platform facilitated by Weekly Shonen Jump. It allows readers to read digital versions of manga and the magazine itself. Manga Plus is available as a free-to-use app on iOS and Android devices, as is Viz Media's Shonen Jump app. With it, a large sample of manga can be read for free. Tsuruko Returns the Favor will likely appear on Manga Plus and the Viz Media app and sites worldwide.

In the August 21, 2023 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump 38, it was announced that the serialization for Black Clover, a fantasy manga written and illustrated by Yūki Tabata, is being transferred to the Jump GIGA magazine. After the release of chapter 368 of Black Clover, all chapters from then on will be released in Weekly Shonen Jump’s sister magazine, Jump GIGA, starting this winter 2023. [Thanks, Natalie!]

As Jump GIGA releases every three months, this means Tabata will also be moving to a quarterly schedule. He sent a message to fans explaining that he no longer believes Weekly Shonen Jump’s schedule aligns with his own personal writing schedule, so he has made the decision to move Black Clover to Jump GIGA after consulting with the editorial department.

Tabata’s message read:

I’m so sorry for not being able to end the series in Weekly Shonen Jump. But I believe that in GIGA, I will be able to end the series in a manner that matches my current drawing pace and is much better for my health. I will do my best to conclude Black Clover in the most satisfying way possible. I know I am making you wait a little bit, but I promise to return to GIGA in the winter in a powered-up form, so please look forward to reading about Asta’s next adventure. Thank you for everything!

The official Shonen Jump News Twitter publicly revealed the announcement of the transfer during the final arc of Black Clover. The original announcement page plus an English translation of it was shared to the public.

Tabata was recently on hiatus from writing Black Clover in May 2023. It is available to read in Weekly Shonen Jump, and from Chapter 368 onwards, Jump GIGA. The anime is available from streaming services such as Hulu and Crunchyroll.

The sixth Shonen Jump music video will feature “Silhouette” from Naruto. It will premiere on July 22, 2023 at 2:00 AM PT/4:00 AM CT. The thumbnail so far shows Kakashi and Obito during their battle against each other. It will likely focus on their relationship, much like how another Naruto trailer focused on Naruto and Sasuke. For Kakashi and Obito, it'll probably start from their time together on Team Minato and end with their antagonistic relationship in the series proper.

Previous Weekly Shonen Jump music videos included “Haruka Kanata” from Naruto, “Samurai Heart (Some Like It Hot!!)” from Gintama, and “Asterisk” from Bleach. The trailers animated art from the manga and featured scenes from the entire series. It didn't only focus on the arc that the song was from. The trailers also only used the TV cut of the song, which means they’re about a minute and a half long.

“Silhouette” by Kana-Boon was the sixteenth opening for Naruto: Shippuden. At its peak, it was in eleventh place on the Oricon charts and in second place on the Japan Hot 100 chart. Because it achieved over 250,000 s, the Recording Industry Association of Japan gave it a Platinum certificate in August 2018. You can watch the music video for “Silhouette” here.

The “Silhouette” trailer for Naruto will premiere on the Shonen Jump YouTube channel on July 22, 2023. There is also a Minato trailer, likely to commemorate Minato's one-shot after he won the Naruto character popularity poll.
