Back in September 2024, Warner Bros and Sega announced a DC x Sonic the Hedgehog crossover that would pair characters from the game series with the Justice League, and now the two are going a step further with a line of toys from Jakks Pacific. While there are no exact details about everything that will entail, in Fall 2025 there will be figures, stuffed animals, and “vehicles” inspired by the collaboration. These will be sold in-stores and online. The first and second installments of the comics are already available via stores like Amazon

This means that the toys will be available after the DC Justice League and Sonic the Hedgehog crossover comic series ends. The first issue appeared in March 2025, followed by a second in April 2025. This storyline will run over five issues and end in July 2025, and the earliest we could see the toys is around September 2025. Ian Flynn, who is known for the standalone Sonic comics series, is behind this latest line’s story.

While we don’t know what the toys will look like yet, Warner Bros and Sega already shared art of the Sonic characters dressed up as the iconic comic heroes. For this collection Sonic ended up paired with The Flash, Knuckles with Superman, Amy Rose with Wonder Woman, Tails with Cyborg, Shadow with Batman, and Silver with Green Lantern.

Here's the full collection of art of the characters dressed in DC hero costumes.

The Sonic the Hedgehog and DC Justice League comics are running now through July 2025 for a five issue series, and the toys based on the crossover will release in Fall 2025.

gintama benizakura movie

Gintama: A New Retelling Benizakura Arc will appear on the official YouTube for the show on April 24, 2025. This is the version of the movie that included new cuts and shots that weren’t in the original show. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

April 24, 2025 will mark the 15th anniversary of Gintama: A New Retelling Benizakura Arc. The movie appeared in movie theaters on April 24, 2010. It’s the first movie in the Gintama franchise and is a retelling of the Benizakura Arc, though with new and improved animation. It also included shorts where the characters talk with each other and Warner Bros in Gintama’s typical meta humor.

The Benizakura Arc is the ninth arc in Gintama, taking place over the course of 5 episodes in the anime, and 2 volumes (10 chapters) in the manga. This makes it the first long arc in the story, which could explain its popularity. That it focused on Gintoki and Katsura, as well as introduced Takasugi and his Kiheitai, could also have to do with it. Whatever the reason, its popularity among the fans likely contributed to it being the only compilation film in the franchise.

Gintama: A New Retelling Benizakura Arc will appear on YouTube from April 24, 2025 in Japan. It'll only be on the channel for two weeks. Those outside of Japan can catch Gintama on services like Crunchyroll.

New Harley Quinn Figure Based on Suicide Squad Isekai Anime

One of the next Harley Quinn figures will be based on her appearance in the Suicide Squad Isekai anime. Kaiyodo announced it is working on a take on the character. The company didn’t announce a price for her or release date yet, but it did note on social media that it will open pre-orders for the item in Japan soon.

Kaiyodo only shared two initial pictures of the figure in the promotional image. One is a close-up that focuses on Harley Quinn’s face. She’s wearing the same makeup from the anime, as well as the same hairstyle, which are both inspired by the live-action Suicide Squad films. Her pose also features her holding her signature baseball bat weapon and throwing up a peace sign. It will be a 1/7 scale figure, so it should stand at about or over eight inches tall.

Here’s the only promotional image shared for the Suicide Squad Isekai Harley Quinn figure so far:

There’s only one season of Suicide Squad Isekai, however the anime did leave off on something of a cliffhanger. There’s no word yet on if there will be a second season that will explore what happened after the reveals in the tenth episode of the show. Most recently, Calliope Mori performed the theme song “Go-Getters” at the Hololive Super Expo 2025 6th fes concert as a duet with Nerissa Ravencroft. She also performed it at her second Grimoire concert in February 2025.

Another DC anime adaptation is in the works, however. Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League debuts on March 18, 2025. It's a follow-up to Batman Ninja, and it will appear worldwide.

Kaiyodo’s Harley Quinn figure based on the Suicide Squad Isekai anime is in development, but there's no release date yet. The show is streaming now on Max and Hulu

teen titans anniversary japan

On November 10, 2024, Cartoon Network in Japan will air a special program to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Teen Titans cartoon. It is also the 10th anniversary of Teen Titans Go!

The Japanese voice actors behind the Teen Titans will all make an appearance to discuss the charm of both Go and the original. The full title of the program can loosely translate to “Go with Teen Titans! Batman 85th Anniversary Collaboration Special.” Also on November 10, 2024, you’ll also be able to watch a special collection of episodes from both TV series. In the press release, Cartoon Network confirmed that it would air movies like Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans and Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo as well.

Here's the trailer for it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RESAXHLnzHM

Cartoon Network premiered Teen Titans in 2003, and it’s based off DC Comics’s Teen Titans series. During its three year run, it was highly popular and received several nominations. Though it’s based on American comics, it featured anime-like tropes in its designs and animation style. It wasn’t the only American cartoon to do so during the early 2000s. Martin Mystery was another show that used a similar aesthetic. The reboot, Teen Titans Go! premiered in 2013 and was far more comedic in tone.

The Teen Titans 20th anniversary special program will air on Cartoon Network in Japan on November 10, 2024 at 2:00 PM JST.

The new designs for the Joker and Harley Quinn are inspired by “bosozoku” biker gangs and “sukeban” delinquent girls aesthetics respectively. You can check out the new key visuals for the Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League anime series featuring the Joker and Harley Quinn here:

uzumaki trailer

Adult Swim has ed a new trailer for Uzumaki, focusing on the titular spirals cursing Kuruozu-cho. The show will start on September 28, 2024.

You can watch the official Uzumaki trailer here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ivmweJQaco

It’s shorter than the first trailer that appeared at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con, which gave a lot more information about the story. This new trailer focuses on how horrific the spirals that are infecting, killing, and driving insane the hapless citizens of Kurouzu-cho are. Main characters like Kirie and Shuichi appear in the trailer as well. If you’re in the States, then you can watch Uzumaki on Toonami and it’ll start streaming the next day on Max.

Uzumaki by Junji Ito originally ran from 1998 to 1999. Compilations of the manga have appeared since then from various publishers. The story follows Kurouzu-cho, which falls victim to a curse involving spirals. English critics have been very positive of it, and it even received a nomination for an Eisner Award in 2003. The Japanese have been very fond of the manga as well. Even in the 2020s, there are still pop-up shops, merchandise, and collaborations with the series.

Uzumaki will have its Japanese premiere from September 28, 2024 on Toonami.

See the First Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League Anime Trailer

Back in May 2024, Warner Bros Japan announced Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League, and at Anime Expo 2024 we got to see a first trailer. There’s also new key art that shows Batman alongside versions of Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman.

First, here’s the Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League key art. Batman is at the bottom of the piece, with Flash on the left and Wonder Woman on the right behind him. At the back are Green Lantern on the left and Aquaman on the right.

https://twitter.com/batmanninja2018/status/1809029678826508659

Here’s the official trailer for the new project. If you turn on closed captions, English subtitles are available. It starts with Green Lantern chasing down Batman and Robin. After that, Aquaman attacks. The Flash shows up to fight after that. A glimpse of Wonder Woman follows, rounding out the “Yakuza League” that is in place instead of the Justice League.

Which MultiVersus Character Is the Best

Now that MultiVersus launched and we’ve had a chance to get comfortable, it’s time to talk about the characters we like the best. The game has its issues, for sure. But there’s also some fun to be had if you can deal with quirks like finding lives up for sale that is apparently a “bug.” Let’s talk about our mains.

Sadly, I found MultiVersus to be Very Bad and dropped it after about a day of playing around with the beta. However, if I must pick a character I had some enjoyment out of, it's easily Bugs Bunny. I've always been a Looney Tunes nerd since I was a kid and that trickster god of a rabbit is my favorite cartoon character of all time. And despite the problems I had with the game overall, I did feel he was represented well. He had all the Acme props you'd expect plus a sneaky burrow move which you could mess with other players with. If the relaunch improves the game, he would be a strong candidate for a personal main. — Leigh

I also didn’t stick with MultiVersus, so my opinion may not be the best for those looking for a character to pick. I really liked Wonder Woman! She’s always been one of my favorite DC heroes and she’s easy enough to get. She’s a Tank type fighter, so it meant I didn’t have to worry about being defeated too quickly before I figured things out. Plus I really found her Sword of Ares and Amazon Shout attacks. — Jenni

MultiVersus is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

suicie squad isekai

A new trailer has come out for Suicide Squad Isekai, as well as a release date. It’ll start airing on July 5, 2024. [Thanks, Comic Natalie!]

You’ll be able to catch it on broadcast TV in Japan. Some of the streaming services it’ll appear on include Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Google TV. However, it’s unclear as to which service has the rights to stream it outside of Japan.

You can catch the new trailer for Suicide Squad Isekai here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1ENgDTeJXA

In the trailer, we can see that scenes take place in both the DC universe and in the fantasy-like isekai they go to for their mission. They only have a time limit of 72 hours. Unless they return to their original world within that time frame, the nano bombs inside of them will explode and kill them. The roster of the Suicide Squad in Suicide Squad Isekai consist of Harley Quinn, The Joker, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, King Shark, Katana, and Rick Flag.

Tomoyasu Hotel will sing the opening and Mori Calliope of hololive will perform the ending. Naoto Hosoda worked on the character designs using drafts from Akira Amano. Amano is a manga artist known for her work on Katekyo Hitman Reborn and Psycho-. Eri Osada, who worked on Zetsuen no Tempest and Jujutsu Kaisen as a storyboard artist and animation director, is the main director for this show.

Suicide Squad Isekai will start airing on July 5, 2024.

This trend online started on April 20, 2024. It kicked off with Twitter NFLStreet4 sharing one of these lectures involving Foghorn Leghorn lecturing Naoto from Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro. Following that, a wave of additional imaginary diatribes inspired by that appeared online following fellow Twitter JenukiDa calling attention to it.

Eric Bauza is the voice of multiple Looney Tunes characters now in addition to Foghorn Leghorn. He also is known as the actor behind Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian, Tweety, Sylvester, Elmer Fudd, and Yosemite Sam.

The Frieren and Dragon Ball anime series are both streaming on Crunchyroll. Viz Media also handles the manga localizations for both. One of the latest Looney Tunes series is Looney Tunes Cartoons, which is available to watch via Max.

I’m Fascinated by All the Tom and Jerry Merchandise in Japan

If you follow Japanese merchandise sites, you might have already realized that Tom and Jerry is surprisingly popular in Japan. So much so that Cartoon Network Japan even aired short, incredibly cute episodes of an original anime based on the duo. I mean, look at this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2h5e1_wOJo&t=2s&ab_channel=%E3%83%AF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%8A%E3%83%BC%E3%83%96%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B6%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B9%E5%85%AC%E5%BC%8F%E3%83%81%E3%83%A3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%8D%E3%83%AB

But what I love about this is both the range and execution of such things. The array of items are really embracing the nostalgia of the series. Yes, we have that incredibly cute spin-off Warner Bros. did based on the characters. However the majority of the actual Tom and Jerry merchandise we’re seeing on a regular basis embrace the original designs and characters, as well as the absurdity that goes along with them.

For example, there were two Banpresto Ichiban Kuji featuring the characters, with one that appeared in February 2023 and another in February 2024. The former was a more peaceful one with the “always together morning till night” one with a blanket, figures, keychains, and towels of the cat and mouse generally relaxing together. The more recent “one peaceful day” one featured a plush of Tom hugging Jerry, another figure, and more keychains and accessories. They’re these really wholesome ones that show both of the characters at their best.

Even the Japanese Warner Bros store direct is just packed with things I didn’t expect. Like sure, there are the sorts of keychains and novelties like chocolates that you’d probably expect. I didn’t expect things like ¥6,600 (~$44) wallets and ¥4,620 (~$31) grocery bags, but there they are. Even more shocking was the fact there’s a themed hot plate (complete with takoyaki insert) that not only came in at ¥12,900 (~$87), but sold out

Image via Warner Bros Store Japan

Speaking of the more expensive items, did you know that costly accessories involving Tom and Jerry characters are incredibly common? I had no idea. But a quick peek even showed Q-pot is releasing jewelry that, once again, is selling out and involving the cat and mouse. Some are pretty normal, like Jerry perched on a wedge of cheese as a charm or necklace. But the companies making them are embracing the more absurd nature of the duo too. For example, there’s an $82.80 Tom double finger ring. It makes it look like the cat is trapped between two of a person’s fingers. It calls to mind some of the more slapstick scenes.

It’s that absurdity that perhaps makes Takara Tomy’s various merchandise and toys based on Tom and Jerry the best pieces of all. Like as I’m search for ideas for topics to cover for news and such, happening upon these gachapon keychains and figures makes my day. There’s the Yummy Food line, which puts Tom, Jerry, and Tuffy/Nibbles in various food items like sandwiches. The cube and squashed Toms in the Funny Art Collection 4 are great. (Though maybe the Funny Art Collection 3 with paper doll tail Tom is better?) I almost imported a 3D rubber mascot keychain of “Waffle Jerry.”

I guess it’s just really amusing to see these different takes and ways another country is appreciating characters I didn’t expect them to enjoy so much. Which means getting to see Tom and Jerry merchandise that makes me realize that oh, right, I used to love that show as a kid too. (Though I still 100% believe Jerry could be a jerk.) Plus, exploring the items means getting to see some silly things brought back to life.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2h5e1_wOJo&t=2s&ab_channel=%E3%83%AF%E3%83%BC%E3%83%8A%E3%83%BC%E3%83%96%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B6%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B9%E5%85%AC%E5%BC%8F%E3%83%81%E3%83%A3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%8D%E3%83%AB

Imagine there's a restaurant known for its wonderful burgers. They're loved and respected in the industry. These Burgers changed the way all future burgers by other restaurants are sold. Now, imagine the place made a new dish. You're first in line. You have to have it. When the waiter comes, he serves you a nice, beautiful plate of saltine crackers and some cheese. This is how it feels to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League after playing Batman: Arkham Asylum.

One is a genre-defining game with innovative combat, a compelling and gripping story, and an overall unique presentation and approach. The other is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It's hard to fully grasp that Rocksteady Games made both titles.

The title of this game tells you the main objective and, ittedly, on paper it's a good one. You play as Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang as they set out to, well, kill the Justice League. You see, the team has been brainwashed by Brainiac, who is now hours away from a total invasion of Earth.

I like the premise and setup a lot! The characters are written pretty consistent with the films and comics and the actors behind them give solid performances. For example, the always excellent Debra Wilson, gives a perfectly hate-able Amanda Waller performance, just as Viola Davis did in the films. Of course the late Kevin Conroy steals the show, has he provided one of his last performances as The Dark Knight. The Suicide Squad themselves also gave very natural performances, with Tara Strong's Harley Quinn being the highlight of the bunch.

While the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League plot does sort of get away from them, I don't think I would say it was poorly written. Rocksteady actually took a few risks with the story, which at least makes it interesting. It's definitely going to elicit a lot of opinions from people, and I'd rather see that than something safe and cookie cutter. However, there are some seriously bad lines of dialogue in here. Like the team fed early MCU scripts to an AI and rolled with it. In fact, that actually may have been what they did. I had to pause some scenes to allow myself time to sufficiently cringe after a particularly corny "comeback" more than once.

Sadly, I wish the characters played as good as they look. The Suicide Squad is composed of four completely separate and unique characters... so why does it feel like they all play the exact same? They all play like how I imagined only Deadshot would play. It's just all about guns. Regardless of how many talents I unlocked or new weapons I found, I never felt like the game deviated from the core gameplay of "shoot until dead." I mean, it's a shooter game. That's the point, sure. However, it just felt off here. It felt like all four of them are fundamentally the same, and the only challenge of the game was just how many times you could press the fire button.

This is the developer that created a melee combat system so good games, like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 still borrow from it. Now Rocksteady relegated melee combat to a single move that breaks shields for more shooting. It just boggles the mind how we got to this style of combat for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It feels like the team had an idea for a shooter and the Suicide Squad license, mashed it together, and called it a day. King Shark and Harley should have had a melee-style of play, and Deadshot and Captain Boomerang should have been ranged. It's just dull, and it never feels like there's ever a scenario or situation to switch characters at all.

When you're not fighting, you're "free to explore Metropolis" in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. However, you're just as free to explore your local Applebee's parking lot, and you'll likely find just as much compelling content waiting for you. There's just nothing of substance to do outside of fighting. To reiterate, this combat isn't clunky or dysfunctional. I'm sure some people might even like the style, but it's just so unimpressive. Rocksteady Games has such a pedigree when it comes to combat that this system feels like a letdown more than it feels bad.

I did like the characters got fresh traversal options from random gear they found in the Hall of Justice. That part felt very true to the Suicide Squad brand. Having Harley shooting around with one of Batman's grappling hooks was a fun choice. It also let us get a taste of the Arkham trilogy.

That's another, in my opinion, weakness of the game. It takes place in the same continuity as the Arkham games. The Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the same one. Normally, this would be an interesting analysis or meta-twist, but here it just reminds you of those games and how much better they are constantly. Half the time I played, I was thinking, "I'm gonna boot up Arkham City after this."

The real audience for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is likely going to involve folks playing multiplayer, and Rocksteady included a pretty good system for dropping in and out of parties and squads. Maybe when you have a full squad of four in a session, the game and it's combat really start to sing? However, my experience with the multiplayer was "fine." The AI bots were doing okay in my solo run, difficulty wise.

To the credit of Rocksteady Games, there aren't a tremendous amount of technical issues plaguing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This means it's mostly delivered intact, which is good and we love to see that. However, it also means that patches won't fix any of the issues the game does have. In my time with it, I also didn't run into any server issues. (We do know there had been for others, though.) However, I'm not very happy I have to mention the server in this review at all. There are just so many issues with an "always online" game, and I'm not going to hide that I abhor them.

This is, at the end of the day, the game Rocksteady and Warner Bros wanted to make. I personally think that every single gameplay choice they made went in the opposite direction of what I'd consider fun to play. But, they wanted to make a live-service game, and they made one. This is of course the prerogative of Rocksteady Games and Warner Bros to do so. To bookend my analogy from the beginning, plenty of people enjoy saltine crackers and cheese! However, It's just disappointing to see a studio known for innovating the super hero genre make such a bland and uninteresting game.
