Gaming has some of the most beautiful romances of all media, but sometimes you want a little more gameplay than a visual novel offers. That’s where these games come in. Blending romantic stories with other gaming genres, they will warm your heart and your hands. Here are ten of our favorite dating sims on Switch that aren’t visual novels.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses zm5h

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a strategy RPG at its core, but the biggest decision you make is whether to the Black Eagles, Blue Lions, or Golden Deer. In fact, it's one of the most iconic Switch dating sims. There are different characters you can romance, date, and eventually marry. Not only does this make you feel warm inside, but gives certain bonuses to those units.

This idea isn’t unique to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and the system is a key part of the Fire Emblem series. However, we’ve chosen Three Houses as our representative here, specifically because of the Three Houses system. Picking your houses locks you out of certain romance options, and gives you even more reason to start another playthrough.

This is a cheeky entry as there aren’t dating options in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but there are a few games on this list that just have a romantic story at their core. The Xenoblade series is known for two things: beautifully synergistic action RPG gameplay, and a heartbreaking story. In the series the third entry has a special place in our hearts.

The touching relationship between Noah and Mio aside – which we won’t be spoiling – those who are desperate for stats to go up can get that too. The affinity system allows characters to unlock new classes, and there are almost 20 characters you can recruit, giving players the best of both worlds.

If you don’t know what Stardew Valley is by now you have probably been living under a rock. The smash hit farming sim in the vein of Harvest Moon has taken over the life of many gamers. After your grandpa es on, he offers you his old plot of farmland in the village of Stardew Valley. You start out by clearing out the farm so you can plant crops, and then you get invested in helping spirits rebuild the community center.

There is a surprising amount going on in Stardew Valley. Aside from farming you will go mining, fishing, attend festivals, and of course date the people of the town. There are a dozen villagers that are single and ready to mingle. Getting married offers benefits, including the addition of children in your hand-built home. Just be prepared that if you decide to play Stardew Valley that you might lose hundreds of hours of your life to it.

You only get into the dating sim elements of Undertale after you have finished the main game, so if you’re looking explicitly for games with plenty of dates then you should probably on this one. However, it is one of the best games of all time, known for its excellent character development, unexpected writing and dialogue, and the way it twists players' expectations.

Most people probably know the twist of Undertale at this point, but we won’t spoil it here just in case. It tells the story of a child who falls into a mysterious underworld filled with strange creatures who confront them at every turn. However, alongside those who attack them on sight, they find those who want to help. It’s about the relationships we have with others, and most of all forgiveness.

You don’t choose who you date in Unpacking, but you do experience the main character's romantic history, including the highs and lows through the gameplay. It’s the epitome of show don’t tell, where the entire story is told via the things that are taken with them when they move house. The house itself tells a story, as our protagonist moves from her parents house, to a shared house, to a partner’s house, and back to their parents’ house again, and beyond.

It’s amazing just how much can be conveyed without a single word. Instead, you can see not just how their relationships blossom or wilt, but their career path, their religion, and their hobbies. Above all decorating and organizing the different places they live is incredibly satisfying even if you don’t care for the wordless story of love and loss.

Catherine: Full Body 2g3u4f

Created by many of the people who also worked on the modern Persona series, Catherine: Full Body shows more than a few of those games’ signature hallmarks. The story starts with our main character Vincent, who has been with his girlfriend Katherine for a long time. She is beginning to grow impatient waiting for marriage, and give him an ultimatum. Following this very serious conversation he finds himself waking up every morning to the young, seductive Catherine.

By day Vincent talks about his dilemma with his friends at his favorite bar The Stray Sheep, which is where he also meets his third potential love interest, the kind-hearted Rin. He also tries to guide the other customers of the bar through the struggles of their lives. At night, he is stuck climbing a nightmarish tower of block puzzles, alongside the other customers, who are also working through their issues as well. A trippy and heart-warming adventure.

Cassette Beasts is a creature collector like Pokémon, but it bears only a ing resemblance to Game Freak’s monster franchise. Instead of catching beasts you will record them on ‘90s style cassette tapes, and though you use them in battle, the one that’s truly in the firing line is you. Unlike the Pokémon games you will never be fighting alone; the power of friendship is always on your side.

As you continue through the story you will find more characters to you on your journey. They each have their own missions they are trying to accomplish. If you help them out, then you will grow closer to them either as friends or, if you like, lovers in this Switch dating sim. Except the dog. You aren’t allowed to date the dog.

Many Switch dating sims add romantic elements as just another feature that you can choose to interact with or not. Eternights puts the dating part of the action RPG at the forefront, and the ending that you receive completely changes based on who you choose. It’s one of the most impactful dating choices in gaming, outside of a visual novel.

The apocalypse is here, and after a long stint in an underground dungeon you emerge to find that those who remained on the surface have turned into monsters. After a supernatural encounter where your arm is ripped off and replaced with a weapon, you decide to get to the heart of the issue alongside any survivors you find along the way. Luckily, most of those survivors happen to be cute girls.

Boyfriend Dungeon a222m

Boyfriend Dungeon does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a dungeon crawler that is full of boyfriends, girlfriends, non-binary friends, and a cat. Set in a world of wielders and weapons, you create a bond with your armory who also happen to be handsome suitors. The stronger your bond when your weapons are in human/feline form, the better they perform in the dungeons.

What makes Boyfriend Dungeon unique is how it handles your relationships. Some partners will be happy with you dating around, others will want you to be monogamous. Some are just a fling, and others want to be your life-long love. There are many flavors of relationship, and even some hidden suitors to find.

A Space for the Unbound 2o716u

This is one of the few games that has made me cry ugly tears, and that is a testament to how touching the story is. A Space for the Unbound isn't really a Switch dating sim with stats that go up and down, but it does tell the touching romance between Atma and Raya. When Raya is having a hard time Atma is always there to cheer her up, but he’s left unsure if that’s the right thing to do.

Raya discovers that she has developed psychic abilities that allow her to warp the world around her to her whims. Atma explores the Indonesian village in which they both live, and has to decide what the best course of action is to help her. As he is dragged through many of her painful memories, he has to decide whether placating her, or tough love is the best way to help Raya heal in this heartwarming story.

Undertale and Deltarune creator Toby Fox commented on his collaboration with Hololive Vtuber Amane Kanata on the song "Fallen Wing," which also is being produced by Camellia. The comment came as part of a mini-newsletter sent out to those on the Undertale and Deltarune mailing list.

Deltarune creator Fox began by describing how he watched Kanata's streamed playthrough of Undertale, and stated that he was moved by her reaction to the Pacifist ending of the game, which led him to reach out to Kanata about a collaboration. Here is the full statement:

I always liked her singing voice, I found it to be very distinct and kind of personal sounding. Combined with her Angel aesthetic, I felt I had the potential to make a really cool song with her… So, I asked her… And… It happened!

He went on to describe how seeing her struggle with hearing loss while pursuing music resonated with him, as he himself suffers from wrist issues that prevent him from working on his own projects. He also praised producer Camellia's arrangement for the song and linked to an instrumental sample.

Amane Kanata also appears in the Magical Girl holoWitches project revealed by Cover and Hololive earlier in May 2024. Toby Fox, meanwhile, also released an update newsletter back in February 2024 that offered an update on the development of Deltarune's Chapter 3.

Inner Sloth announced that people can now dress as characters from games like Celeste, Undertale, and Untitled Goose Game via a new Among Us crossover Cosmicube. The Indie Cosmicube is available for 7,000 Beans until February 28, 2024. 

This Cosmicube works like others in Among Us. You play through matches and earn Beans for your performance. That can be used to buy this Cosmicube from the menu. Once you activate it, you can then work your way toward earning cosmetic items based on seven other indie games. The official summary noted this adds 6 pets, 9 visors, 12 nameplates, 18 skins, and 25 hats.

It isn’t uncommon to see a crossover in Among Us. Hololive Vtuber-inspired cosmetics appeared in the game back in 2022. That cost Stars, rather than Beans, so people needed to pay to get the items. 

Likewise, we’ve seen Among Us references and crossovers in other games. In particular, there are Among Us stickers in A Hat in Time.

In the Summer 2023 Undertale/Deltarune email newsletter, Toby Fox shared details about a cut scene featuring Sans eating ice cream. Fox first explained that there were sprites from it in the game, which people may have discovered, but never ended up used. These would have been part of a segment for speedrunners, but that didn't happen. However, there's now a video mock-up showing what that event would have looked like, complete with special music.

Here is the segment showing Sans eating ice cream in Undertale. While it would have appeared at the end of the game, there are no spoilers present. It does offer a nod to the fact that whoever playing the game ended up getting through the story much faster than expected.

This isn’t the only detail about a game that came up in the Summer 2023 email newsletter. Fox also offered an update on Deltarune’s progress. Apparently, they are now working an overworld area for the third chapter of the game. There's still no release window for the next part of that game yet, however.

Undertale is available on the PS4, Vita, Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Sans and Papyrus Nendoroids are also now available.

There’s a new Undertale Nendoroid, and this time it’s Toriel's turn. She’ll come with three face plates and a butterscotch cinnamon pie accessory. Pre-orders are now available for ¥7,000 on the Good Smile Company site or $50.99 in the US Online Store. It’s scheduled to release in August 2023 in Japan. In the US, it will appear in Q4 2023.

There will be three different facial expressions available for the Toriel Nendoroid: smiling, blushing, and combat/angry faces. As for the poses, it will bring the traditional hands-together look, and also interchangeable arms with open hands as if to hold a pie or to prepare a hug for a certain someone.

This Toriel figure was previously announced along with the Human Nendoroid back at the WonHobby 36 event, bringing the number of Undertale-based Nendoroids up to five. On the same note, Nendoroid versions of Sans, Papyrus, and Undyne were also released in the past few years.

Undertale’s Toriel Nendoroid will start shipping in Japan in August 2023, and it’s slated for release in the US in Q4 2023. Pre-orders will be open until June 1^st, 2023. Undertale is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

A Nendoroid based on the Human from Undertale is now available to pre-order on the Good Smile Company official site. The figure had previously appeared at the WonHobby 36 event along with another one based on Toriel. The Human Nendoroid will cost ¥6,100 from the Japanese site or $42.99 from the US online store. It's scheduled to release in August 2023 in Japan. It will appear in the US in Q4 2023.

This Nendoroid will come with an expressionless face as the only face plate available. However, it will feature a SOUL item, a hand to connect with the future Toriel Nendoroid, and a Flowey miniature figurine. Regarding the latter, in the images you can see that it will be available with two face variants.

With this reveal, there are now four Nendoroid figures available based on Undertale, counting the previously released Sans, Papyrus and Undyne ones. Likewise, Good Smile Company recently revealed a new Nendoroid based on Ralsei from Deltarune, another Toby Fox game.

Undertale’s Human Nendoroid will start shipping in Japan in August 2023. It will ship in the US in Q4 2023. Pre-orders will be open until May 11, 2023. As for the Toriel figure, it has not yet been specified when it will be released. Undertale is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

According to Xbox Game ' official website, a number of games will be leaving Xbox Game in two weeks, meaning they will be gone sometime during the week of March 12, 2023. Notable games leaving the service include Undertale, Zero Escape: The Nonary Games, and Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy. The game is known for deconstructing RPG tropes and conventions such as experience points and the need to kill monsters to gain them.

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games is a compilation of the first two Zero Escape games, 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors, and Virtue's Last Reward. The collection originally landed on Game in 2022. Both of the included titles are adventure games featuring people trapped in closed spaces where they must work together to escape.

Those wishing to check out some of these games before they leave the Xbox Game have until the week of March 12, 2023 to do so. After that, you can find Undertale on PCs via Steam, the PS4, Xbox One, Series X, and Switch. Zero Escape: The Nonary Games can be found on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

As mentioned earlier, more information on the video game figures and Nendoroids from WonHobby 36 will appear in the future. Quite a few of them, such as the Phat! Company figure of Twin Turbo, are already at the end of the production cycle. Meanwhile, figures such as the Kiriko Nendoroid have not even undergone sculpting yet.

Good Smile Company has opened pre-orders for the Undertale Undyne Nendoroid. The Nendoroid comes with the character's harpoon and a fish-shaped mug, as well as several faceplates. Pre-orders will close on September 28, 2022, and the Nendoroid will cost $39.99. It will ship sometime in May 2023.

Undyne is one of several main characters that appear in the 2D RPG Undertale. She is an anthropomorphic fish and the leader of the Royal Guard. She typically appears wearing a suit of plate armor and an eye patch. She also wields a harpoon.

Her Nendoroid recreates much of those same features. While it does not seem to include her plate armor helmet, she does come with several optional bonus items. It also appears that you can change the angle of the character's ponytail. Additionally, pre-orders will include a special backdrop.

In addition to her two "standard" and "laughing" faceplates, Undyne can also hold her harpoon. Furthermore, it also comes with a holdable fish-shaped mug. The "memorable water-drinking scene" that Good Smile Company mentions is likely a reference to when the player can choose to give her a cup of water in the Hotlands.

Previously, Good Smile Company also released two Nendoroid figures of Sans and Papyrus. Undyne is the third and last currently-confirmed character from Undertale to get a Nendoroid. It's unclear if Good Smile Company will produce more figures of other characters from the series.

The Undertale Undyne Nendoroid is available for pre-order on the Good Smile Company website. The Nendoroid will cost $39.99, and ship sometime in May 2023. Pre-orders will close on September 28, 2022.

The popular Undertale track "Megalovania" has appeared in Konami's Gitadora High-Voltage. It has received a new arrangement that befits the rock music-oriented arcade game. Players can also obtain in-game content featuring Sans by playing the game within two months of the crossover's launch.

Yvya, one of the Bemani Sound Team , made the rock arrangement for "Megalovania." The new arrangement makes the high-paced track playable on the arcade game that features guitar- and drum-inspired controllers to emulate a rock music session.

The crossover also adds in-game content featuring Undertale's Sans that players can unlock by increasing their level. Level 15 will unlock new Shutters with an illustration of the character. At level 30, Sans himself will appear on the screen and interact with the player. These Undertale features are available to unlock until October 10, 2022.

The Gitadora inclusion adds another entry to the ever-growing connection between Toby Fox and Konami's Bemani series of rhythm games. The collaboration began with the inclusion of "Megalovania" in Dance Dance Revolution A3 in May 2022. Konami then added five other Undertale tracks, such as "Bonetrousle" and "Asgore," to Sound Voltex: Exceed Gear in late July 2022. Toby Fox also collaborated with Camellia to create a new original song titled "Summerblue," which will appear in Beatmania IIDX 30 Resident.

Gitadora High-Voltage is available in arcades.

Konami will add five music tracks from Toby Fox's Undertale into Sound Voltex: Exceed Gear on July 28, 2022. Players of the rhythm arcade game will be able to play the tracks while adding effects to them.

The five Undertale tracks that will be available in Sound Voltex are "Bonetrousle," "Spear of Justice," "Death by Glamour," "Asgore," and "Finale." Toby Fox's name will also appear in the arcade game as the composer of all five tracks.

Sound Voltex is a series of rhythm games where players can hold buttons and turn knobs to add effects to a song. Exceed Gear is the sixth and latest iteration of the series that Konami launched in February 2021 in Japan. The company also updated the game's PC version in December 2021. In late June 2022, Round 1 USA brought Sound Voltex as one of the new arcade games in its facilities across the U.S.

Despite adding five tracks at once, this is not the first time Konami inserted Undertale music into its Bemani series of rhythm games. In May 2022, the company added "Megalovania" into Dance Dance Revolution A3.

Sound Voltex: Exceed Gear is available on PC and arcades. The music tracks from Undertale will appear in the latest Sound Voltex entry on July 28, 2022.

A number of indie game Nendoroid updates appeared as part of Good Smile Company's Anime Expo 2022 announcements. Most of them were looks at confirmed characters. For example, painted prototypes of both the Nendoroid versions of Shovel Knight and Undertale's Undine showed up. So did an unpainted Nendoroid prototype of the half-genie Shantae.

There was also an indie game Nendoroid announcement. Slime Rancher's lead character is getting a figure. The Beatrix LeBeau Nendoroid will be based on the rancher's appearance in Slime Rancher 2.

"Megalovania," one of the more well-known tracks from Undertale, is now available in Dance Dance Revolution A3. Those with access to the arcade machine will be able to give this song a spin. Konami shared information through the official Dance Dance Revolution A3 website, announcing the inclusion of "Megalovania" in the game. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Throughout the course of its lifespan, Konami has updated the tracklist for Dance Dance Revolution A3 several times. In April 2022, it updated the tracklist to include popular songs from Touhou Project titles. However, Dance Dance Revolution A3 is only available in arcades. This means s will need to go to a physical machine in order to play these songs.

In 2019, Konami announced plans to bring Dance Dance Revolution and Beatmania to mobile devices. This included plans for the releases, such as being able to project the game from your mobile device to a monitor or TV. However, a project known as Dance Dance Revolution Ultimate, which would see the popular dance title appear on mobile devices, has had little to no updates concerning a potential release. Konami has not made any additional announcements about potentially bringing the series to mobile devices or if it has any intentions of releasing a new title outside of arcades.

Two Nendoroid figures of Sans and Papyrus from Undertale are now available for pre-order. Good Smile Company is selling the Nendoroids for $54.99 each and will ship them sometime in January 2023. Pre-orders will be available until April 20, 2022 or until supplies last.

Each Nendoroid will come with a series of different facial expressions and optional parts. Sans, for example, will have eyes that can be repositioned to look in different directions. Furthermore, Sans will come with an interchangeable blue eye. On the other hand, Papyrus will come with three different faceplates and eyebrow parts. The eyebrow parts are separate from the faceplates and are swappable.

Optional parts for Sans include a hotdog and ketchup bottle. Sans will also come with an alternate sitting lower body part. Papyrus will come with his signature spaghetti, as well as the blue bone from his "blue attack." Papyrus' skull part also comes with its own stand, allowing owners to display Papyrus' head separate from his body.

The Sans and Papyrus Nendoroids originally appeared in September 2021. Since then, Good Smile Company has also announced the development of an Undyne Nendoroid. There is no confirmation on whether more Undertale Nendoroids will appear in the future.

The Undertale Sans and Papyrus Nendoroid figures are available for pre-order. Both Nendoroids will cost $54.99 individually. Pre-orders are open until April 20, 2022 but in limited supply. Both Nendoroids will ship sometime in January 2023.

There won’t just be two Undertale Nendoroids. A third one is on the way. In addition to Sans and Papyrus, an Undyne Nendoroid is in the works. She appeared for the first time at WonHobby 35. The two boys showed up two, as painted prototypes were shown for the first time.

First, here's the Undyne Nendoroid announcement. Only concept art for the character appeared. She will be wearing her full suit of armor for the figure.

As for Sans and Papyrus, both are painted for the first time. When Good Smile Company showed them off in December 2021, only unpainted prototypes of both were available. The latest reveal also didn't show any possible accessories or additional face plates for them.

There's no word yet on when any of these Undertale Nendoroids could appear. The Sans and Papyrus figures should appear ahead of Undyne, given that they're already painted and have been in development since September 2021. No other Undertale figures appeared as part of the WonHobby 35 announcements.
