The Disney+ Japanese YouTube channel ed a trailer for Twisted Wonderland: Episode of Heartslabyul, the anime adaptation of the titular game. At a minute and a half long, the trailer gives us a look at the disastrous opening ceremony, in which protagonist Yuken finds himself in Twisted Wonderland and meets Grim.

The trailer appeared online over the weekend, and is only available in Japanese. Most of the housewardens briefly appear in the trailer, as they’re present during the ceremony, save for Idia and Malleus.

Yohei Azakami voices Yuken in the anime adaptation of Twisted Wonderland: Episode of Heartslabyul. Azakami’s prominent roles include Guel from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, Mydei from Honkai: Star Rail, and Toshizo Hijikata from Blue Miburo.

Twisted Wonderland is a Japanese mobile game in which you attend a school full of characters “twisted” from Disney villains. It’s more akin to a text adventure with rhythm game and battle RPG elements than the dating sim some believe it to be. As a note, the anime is based off the manga adaptation rather than the game. There, the “Yu” changes from book to book. So it’s unknown if Yuken will remain the protagonist in the following Savanaclaw and Octavinelle parts, or if the anime will somehow introduce a different Yu.

After three years of radio silence, we finally have some news on what’s going on with the anime adaptation of Twisted Wonderland. We now have a key visual for it, along with the news that it’ll start streaming on Disney+ in October 2025. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!]

The key visual shows the seven dorm leaders in the order that they become important in the story. Riddle is the closest, since the game starts with the Heartslabyul chapter, and Malleus is the furthest, as Diasomnia was the final dorm to have a main story about it. Disney confirmed three seasons so far, and the name of the first season is “Episode of Heartslabyul.” Each season will be a different chapter of the main story, meaning we'll also see the Savanaclaw and Octavinelle chapters. According to the press release, the anime will include scenes and details from the manga adaptation as well.

Twisted Wonderland is a visual novel that takes place in a magical school, with seven dormitories drawing inspiration from major Disney villains. All of the characters who attend the school are also either based on characters or motifs from various Disney movies. The player is a normal person who finds themself in this magical world. Along with the mysterious creature Grim, they have wild misadventures with everyone while searching for a way home. Some people may misunderstand Twisted Wonderland as a dating sim, but it is not.

The Twisted Wonderland anime will start airing on Disney+ in October 2025. More details on it, such as trailers, will appear closer to that release window.

A new The Nightmare Before Christmas collaboration event will introduce a Jack Skellington character to the Twisted Wonderland mobile game. He's called Skully J. Graves. Aniplex released a new teaser trailer showing the new design of the popular Disney character.

The new event is titled "Lost in the Book with Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas" and it will arrive in the Japanese version of the game on October 1, 2024. As with the rest of the cast of characters in Twisted Wonderland, the new version of Jack Skellington will be designed by manga author Yana Toboso, who is known for creating the Black Buttler manga and anime series.

The new teaser trailer is 32 seconds long and it shows Jack Skellington as well as the new character inspired by him, Skully J. Graves. Additionally, Jack and Skully are ed by Jade, Jamil, Leona, and Riddle, which are also featured with new Halloween themed costumes for the event.

Furthermore, it was revealed that Kappei Yamaguchi will lend his voice to Skully J. Graves. Yamaguchi is well known for his roles as L in Death Note, Shinichi Kudo in Detective Conan, and Ranma in Ranma 1/2.

Twisted Wonderland is readily available for Android and iOS mobile devices, and the new The Nightmare Before Christmas collaboration event will start in Japan on October 1, 2024.

It isn’t uncommon for Disney or Disney-adjacent series to get manga adaptations. For example, there was one for Cruella, not to mention the Kingdom Hearts adaptations. Twisted Wonderland felt a perfect fit for a manga version, and fortunately for us it does work quite well. While it doesn’t mean immediate introductions to all of the houses and characters, Twisted Wonderland builds on the game’s story with a natural progression that feels like it will eventually give everyone equal attention.

While the identity of the main character can seem a bit vague in the Twisted Wonderland game, to assist with self-insertion, the manga is much more clear. Things begin with Japanese high school student Yuken “Yu” Enma. He’s great at kendo, poised to lead his team to victory, but he’s also a genuinely good person who appears to want to root for and assist people with dreams and just starting on their own journeys. However, after a practice, he’s suddenly essentially hit by a black carriage pulled by black horses. He awakes in a coffin at the entrance ceremony for Night Raven College. It’s a school with “houses” tied to iconic Disney villains. Only those with incredibly magical potential are itted, but Yu has none. After a weird encounter with a cat monster determined to attend the school, heaster Dire Crowley allows him to stay at an abandoned, haunted dorm.

This part, as well as the introduction to the various of Heartslabyul, all is handled incredibly well. While we get teasers of the Twisted Wonderland characters who head up the other dorms in the introduction, the manga doesn’t throw too much at us by allowing us to just focus on one group of characters. It offers familiar segues for those who started with the game, as well as those for whom this adaptation is their first exposure to the story. It hits all the major story beats of introducing Grim, as well as setting up Ace Trappola and Deuce Spade as Yu’s first friends. Especially as the quartet ends up needing to get magestone to avoid expulsion.

At the same time, I feel like it handles Twisted Wonderland’s story a bit better. With the game, we needed to rely on battle segments to help flesh out the story, and the visual novel style meant we’d sometimes only see 20-40 lines with occasional choices that didn’t affect anything. There’s a lot more context here, as well as opportunities to see interactions through the art.

Not to mention it feels like the Twisted Wonderland manga’s first volume shows the characters’ relationships better. We see exactly why Yu connects so quickly with Riddle Rosehearts. It offers more for the events we know will soon come in the next volume, especially if you played the game. There’s better to build rapport.

I suppose the best way to put it is that I didn’t expect the Twisted Wonderland manga to be as good as it is, but the first volume starts strong. It offers a solid origin story for the protagonist. It doesn’t try to do too much. Also, it builds on the game’s events, ensuring that it offers extra context and character insight to make things feel fuller and worth experiencing either for the first time or again.

Twisted Wonderland is available on Android and Apple iOS devices. The anime adaptation will appear on Disney+. Volume 1 of the Twisted Wonderland manga is available now, and volume 2 will appear on November 14, 2023.

So, the gimmick with Aniplex, Disney, and f4samurai’s Twisted Wonderland is people are in a high school where iconic Disney villains are ired. That means people like the Queen of Hearts, Hades, Jafar, and Scar are heralded as “The Legendary Seven.” Each one has a dorm tied to them. Every guy is based on a villain somehow. For example, Floyd and Jade Leech are based on Ursula’s eels Flotsam and Jetsam. But while the idea is “guys based on bad guys,” the Twisted Wonderland characters often really aren’t bad guys. Rather, there are a lot of moments where they’re good people and even heroic.

One of the first “good guy” characters people will meet in Twisted Wonderland is Deuce Spade. (He’s based on a Alice in Wonderland spade card soldier.) The player runs into him when pursuing the Heartslabyul first year Ace Trappola, who got into trouble with them and Grim and is supposed to take part in a window-cleaning punishment. Deuce helps you stop Ace from evading punishment. His goal is established as trying to be an honor roll student and succeed. He’s generally level-headed and amiable. Granted, as a member of the cast in this sort of game, he does have a side. There are times when he’ll ask for things like coffee from the player in exchange for doing the right thing. But he’s generally a good person.

Savanaclaw’s Jack Howl is another good example. He acts like he’s as tough as the other people, but he’s genuinely honorable and fair. This doesn’t mean he won’t take part in some malicious acts. But spoilers aside, it does mean that he’ll give his all and be fair. Vignettes from his SSR also show the sort of respect he pays to people he finds deserves it. For example, he ires both Leona and Ruggie. However in those side stories especially, he goes out of his way to show tribute to Ruggie. It’s notable, given he’s usually more aloof to some people in school

With many SSRs not yet in the game, only a few story chapters localized, and no real events yet, other hints at Twisted Wonderland characters’ good sides are more anecdotal. Their appearances during chats, story missions, and vignettes have to suffice. But even then, they offer hints at how people really are. When Ruggie uses the items Jade left out, he immediately offers to make good on the “unintended” contract. Jade, despite his nature, easily accepts the opportunity to learn new recipes for those ingredients. It’s why he left items out in the first place, after all. While Azul is out for himself, he’s affable while he is. He shows courtesy and respect to other students. If you happen to get one of Ortho’s cards, his chats are quite pleasant. Is he over-enthusiastic? Yes. But he’s also devoted to his brother Idia and generally both positive and refreshing. (One could argue that his more negative tendencies are due to his age and nature.)

There’s also the matter of characters’ backgrounds and development. As you collect their cards in Twisted Wonderland, you’ll get to see more one-on-one scenes with them. Between that and story progress, you’ll learn more about who they are and what led them to Night Raven College. You’ll learn why Leona might seem so lazy. You’ll see why Riddle gets so strict. The game helps you understand their motivations. Then, as you go through the main campaign, you’ll see how they develop and grow. As they experience certain trials, we even see them acknowledge their flaws and work past them. Though in some cases, such as with Deuce’s SSR card, it is clear that even someone like Riddle who seems intimidating could genuinely want to help teach those in his dorm and see them do well.

Rather than being really “bad,” the Twisted Wonderland characters embody bad boy types. This means that while they can be arrogant, cold, greedy, rash, sadistic, or self-centered, these might be ing and only part of who they are. Also, those tendencies might be there for a reason. As folks get to know them, they might see the other facets of their personalities. Interactions with other characters can show how they behave differently with people they care about or trust. We also might see events show them that how they’re acting isn’t ideal, and they’ll grow out of it.

More than a year after its original launch in Japan, pre-registration for the English version of Twisted Wonderland is finally open. It will come out in North America on January 20, 2022. There is no news regarding a European server. Pre-registration awards include Magic Keys and Star Fragments.

The highest pre-registration bonus, which unlocks at 30,000 players, is a Blessed Magic Key. This will allow players to summon an SR character of their choice. Even without the Blessed Magic Key, Twisted Wonderland does allow players to re-roll their first 10-roll until they have the cards that they want. This means that if you are aiming for a specific SR, you can naturally do so in-game.

Additionally, players can also get Magic Keys, Star Fragments, and Lesson Item 3-Piece Sets. Magic Keys are worth a single summon. Star Fragments and Lesson Item 3-Piece Sets are items you can use to recover AP and increase the amount of EXP you gain, respectively. Once these pre-registration milestones are reached, all players will receive them when the game officially launches.

Twisted Wonderland is an RPG with rhythm game and turn-based battle elements. You take on the role of an ordinary person who finds themself in Night Raven College. Each dorm draws inspiration from classic Disney films such as The Lion King and Alice in Wonderland, and each character is a direct reference to a character from those films as well.

The English version of Twisted Wonderland will launch in the USA and Canada on January 20, 2022. It will be available on iOS and Android mobile devices.

The Disney+ streaming service is adding a number of anime series to its roster. These include Tatami Time Machine Blues, Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall, and Summer Time Rendering. The Twisted Wonderland anime adaptation, based on the mobile game of the same name, will also air exclusively on Disney+. No specific global release window has been specified for these new titles.

Tatami Time Machine Blues is a sequel to Science SARU's 2010 series The Tatami Galaxy, with many of the original cast reprising their roles. Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall follows a 2012 anime series revolving around the titular character, though the series will take place in its own unique universe. Summer Time Rendering is an adaptation of one of the most popular manga titles on the Shonen Jump+ app, with the series pulling in over 130 million page views.

Mobile game Twisted Wonderland launched in Japan in March 2020, with all scenarios and character designs handled by Black Butler creator Yana Toboso. The game centers around new characters inspired by Disney villains. No additional details on the project have been revealed.

Disney+ initially launched in November 2019, with over 10 million subscribers on its first day. As of May 2021, it was the third most subscribed streaming service behind Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, with over 116 million subscribers. The service costs $8 monthly or $80 for a one-year subscription.

The official Twisted Wonderland Twitter posted a video celebrating the 1st Anniversary of Twisted Wonderland’s launch. In the PV, Grim goes on an adventure throughout Night Raven College while encountering all of the students from the game as they go about their life at the academy.

Aside from the PV, Twisted Wonderland has new features to celebrate the 1st Anniversary. Players can obtain limited bonuses and participate in stamp missions. A new function called Sam's Item Gacha is also available. In Sam’s Item Gacha, players have the chance to obtain rare items. Additionally, with the 1st Anniversary, they implemented the function to view obtained cards from the home screen. You can also input your birthday now to get special events and presents.

Twisted Wonderland is a mobile game created by Aniplex and Walt Disney Japan. Yana Toboso, who is the creator of Black Butler, designed the characters, scenario, and concept. All of the students are personifications of classic Disney villains or their motifs. It is a visual novel, rhythm game, and battle-adventure game all in one package. U-Treasure has opened a new batch of pre-orders for high-valued necklaces based on Disney: Twisted-Wonderland characters. The Japanese web store also s international shipping with the WorldShopping service. This pre-order batch will be closed on February 16, 2021, with the finished products planned to be delivered in late June 2021. [Thanks, Gamer.]

The necklaces will be available at differing prices based on the materials used. The most affordable ones, made of Silver, are priced at 15,400 yen (~$148). K18 Yellow/Pink Gold necklaces are also available at 88,000 yen (~$847). The most luxurious ones are made of Platinum 950 and priced at a whopping 110,000 yen (~$1,059).

Although U-Treasure had held several pre-order batches since October 2020, the previous ones only featured the seven leaders of the Night Ravens College dormitories. Today's batch added new designs based on 15 more characters, so all 22 students currently in the title are now ed for.

Each of the seven dormitories will be represented with a different jewel. The Alice in Wonderland-based Heartslabyul will have a Ruby, The Lion King-based Savanaclaw with a Citrine, The Little Mermaid-based Octavinelle with a White Sapphire, the Aladdin-based Scarabia with a Garnet, the Snow White-based Pomefiore with an Amethyst, the Hercules-based Ignihyde with a Blue Topaz, and the Sleeping Beauty-based Diasomnia will be adorned with a Peridot.

The rhythm adventure mobile game has become so popular in Japan, it even made it into the top 10 most used game hashtags in the Japanese Twitter community in 2020. Bandai will also release Tamagotchis based on the game in June 2021.

Disney and Bandai will release Twistetchi, a Tamagotchi based on Disney: Twisted-Wonderland, a popular mobile game in Japan. The Twistetchi will be available in seven colors based on the seven dormitories in the Night Ravens College: Heartslabyul, Savanaclaw, Octavinelle, Scarabia, Pomefiore, Ignihyde, and Diasomnia. However, the only differences besides the colors are the charm tags that come with the packages. The in-game content will be the same in all models. The house and character you interact with will depend on how you play the Tamagotchi.

The gameplay system in Twistetchi will involve attending classes and petting the cat-like Grim. You can choose between feeding Grim a tuna can or macaron. You can also attend either Magic History or Alchemy class, and the characters you'll encounter will be generally based on your choices.

Bandai's Tamagotchi toy line has seen a resurgence in recent months by releasing collaboration products with famous IPs. Other than Twisted-Wonderland, there have also been Tamagotchi based on characters from Demon Slayer, Evangelion, and Fate/Extella.

Good Smile Company announced a new for Disney: Twisted Wonderland Nendoroid for Riddle Roseheart. The figure will release in June 2021. Japanese pre-orders are priced at 6,200 yen, including tax. It isn't available on the North American website or storefront, however.

Disney: Twisted Wonderland is a Japanese mobile game created by Aniplex and Disney, and it focuses on depictions of villains inspired by various franchises. Players participate in an adventure with rhythm game elements, battles, and even dorm management. All character designs are by mangaka Yana Toboso of Black Butler fame. The game has been out in Japan since March 2020 for Android and iOS devices, though there's no word regarding any Western release.

Twisted Wonderland's Riddle Roseheart represents the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. The Nendoroid will come with parts to change his expression from a standard look to one smug or even outraged. Additionally, Riddle will have a bejeweled staff, a strawberry tart, and a fork. The creators at Good Smile Company described the inspiration for Riddle's look as, "Just a party on any ordinary day." Different pairs of hands and arms will facilitate the various poses.

The ten most popular Twitter game s for 2020 so far have been shared, and Japanese games were among the most discussed between January and June 2020. The official blog entry going over trending gaming topics noted that Japan, the United States, and South Korea were the top three countries with residents tweeting about games, and six of the ten most tweeted about games globally so far were made by companies in Japan. Of those, Animal Crossing and Fate/Grand Order topped the list.

Of the games and series that performed well, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ early success in 2020 propelled it to the top spot. Fate/Grand Order, Android and iOS RPG with visual novel elements, took second place. Final Fantasy (in general) came in third, likely due to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

From there, the other popular Twitter games were Japanese mobile titles. Fourth place went to Disney: Twisted-Wonderland. This is an adventure game with rhythm elements where the player is summoned to Twisted Wonderland to attend Night Raven college with bishonen versions of Disney villains. For example, Leona Kingscholar is a prince in Savanaclaw and basically is Scar, while Malleus Draconia is from the Diasomnia Maleficent house.

Ensemble Stars is an idol training game where people collect characters and cards to build up male idols. It came in sixth.

The ninth most tweeted about game was Identity V. That’s an asymmetrical horror game where one person is a Hunter and the other four are Survivors with various skills. (It even had a Danganronpa crossover.) It is available worldwide.

Twitter also shared a number of infographics going details like which countries were talking most about games, top game topics, and games that were popular during conferences.
