Epoch released a Super Mario toy that has you stacking the various characters’ hats on a tower, which you can adjust for difficulty if needed. The toy costs 1980 JPY ($13.55) after tax in Japan, and you can play it with up to four people.

The Super Mario cap stacker toy comes with twelve cards, eight caps, a stand, and a bottom for the stand. If you want to make it a challenge, you can flip the bottom of the stand to make the tower wobbly, which will make it harder to adjust, move, or place the hats on the tower.

Epoch offers three ways to play the game. The simplest way is to place hats on the tower depending on which card you pull. For example, if you pull a Wario card, you have to place Wario’s hat on the stand, and if you knock over the tower, you lose. The second way to play is to set the tower to wobbly mode and take turns putting hats on the tower. Whoever manages to stack the most before they topple over wins. Finally, the third way is similar to Twister in that all players draw cards, and take turns using their cards to direct another player to place the hat on the tower.

The difficulty of the game seems to come from the shapes of the hats. The guys’ hats have a wide top and a smaller bottom, which means they don’t fit together well. Meanwhile, the girls have crowns. So it looks like there will be some measure of strategy in the game from the order in which you place the hats.

Megahouse will release a new toy based on Hanako of the Toilet, a popular Japanese urban legend. It’ll come out in early August 2024.

The toy is called “Dokkiri Hanako of the Toilet,” and it’s quite similar to toys like Pop Up Pirate. Each player will take turns pulling down the lever of the toilet. Depending on your luck, something will pop out of the toilet on your turn. Items that will pop out are a bug, toilet paper, or Hanako herself. This toy will not require any batteries and will cost 3278 JPY ($22.70).

Hanako of the Toilet, or Hanako-san, is a very famous urban legend that pretty much everyone in Japan knows about. There are various backstories for Hanako depending on the version you hear. But in general, she’s a young girl named Hanako who haunts school toilets. Like with Bloody Mary, some children may try to summon Hanako-san as a dare or a game. Because of her popularity and ubiquity, many Japanese properties feature Hanako-san as a character, or base a character off her. Examples include Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun and Spirit Hunter: Death Mark II.

The Hanako of the Toilet toy will come out some time in early August 2024. So it should be out some time soon.

Being a spy or assassin is tough work, but for those who wish to live a day in the life of Loid or Yor Forger, an Anya Tamagotchi will come out on December 17, 2022. The Tamagotchi nano will appear in toy stores, dollar stores, and the like in Japan, though they will also be available online. It will cost 2,530 JPY, which is approximately $19.70. The Spy x Family Tamagotchi lets you take care of Anya in her school uniform, and you unlock more outfits as you take care of her. There are even some outfits that are exclusive to the Tamagotchi and do not appear in the show or manga. There are also two versions of the Tamagotchi will be available to purchase. Consumers can opt for a green one that draws inspiration from Loid and Yor, or a pink and black one meant to evoke Anya.

The Tamagotchi features three types of mini-games that you can play. So far, we know that there is a dodgeball game and a word-matching game. The results of these games will affect Anya’s development. Additionally, you can give Anya peanuts as snacks. If you do not pay attention to Anya, she might get sulky and run away.

Spy x Family started airing during the Spring 2022 anime season and is streaming on Crunchyroll. The show follows Loid, who is a spy. For a mission, he must gather together a fake family and enroll a child in a prestigious school. Unbeknownst to him, his fake wife is an assassin and his fake daughter is a mind-reader. None of them, save for Anya, know each other’s true identities.

The Spy x Family Anya Tamagotchi will come out in Japan on December 17, 2022.

From the end of February 2022, Bandai will start selling Animal Crossing: New Horizons snow globes (or water globe) as capsule toy prizes. It will cost 300 JPY (around $2.60) per spin. In total, there are six varieties to collect. These capsule toys will require you to assemble them before you can display them. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

Instructions detailing how to put together the water globe will come with the capsule. It only requires putting the sphere onto the stand, then pouring water inside. Aside from key locales, these snow globes focus on the four seasons. These toys are microcosms of what a player's daily life looks like on their island. Each water globe also features a variety of villagers. For example, Beau is at the forefront of the spring one, while Goldie is the featured villager of the winter one.

Earlier in February 2022, Nintendo announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Japan’s best-selling video game. This means that it sold more units than even the original Super Mario Bros over the course of its two years. Outside of the game, there is plenty of merchandise. For example, Bandai Spirits consistently collaborates with it for Ichiban Kuji, and Nintendo often releases plushes of the villagers.

Bandai will release One Piece Eternal Pose capsule toy comes from the end of January 2022. They will appear in gachapon machines around Japan, costing 500 JPY ($4.40) per spin. There are a total of six variations that you can get, and you will need to assemble the Eternal Pose first. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

In this collection, you can get Eternal Pose comes that can lead you to: Ohara, Enies Lobby, Wholecake Island, Sabaody Archipelago, Impel Down, and Amazon Lily. After you put all the pieces together, the Eternal Pose will stand at around 90 millimeters tall.

This is the third round of One Piece Eternal Pose capsule toys from Bandai. Earlier rounds included Eternal Poses to locations such as Alabasta and Skypiea. However, it is difficult to find retailers who still have these particular capsule toys available online.

In the One Piece series, an Eternal Pose is a special type of com. The needle inside only ever points to the specific location for that Eternal Pose. For example, if you have an Eternal Pose for Sabaody Archipelago, the com will only lead you there.

The One Piece Eternal Pose capsule toys from Bandai will appear in machines around Japan from the end of January 2022. One Piece is available on streaming services such as Funimation and Crunchyroll.

Takara Tomy will release Mugen Train parts from Demon Slayer as collectible capsule toys in its Capsule Plastic Trains: Special Spin-off Edition line. There is no concrete release date, with the website stating that they will become available from December 2021. It will cost 300 JPY to play. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

In total, there are five parts for you to collect. They are: the front car, the tender, two enger cars, and a car that Enmu took over. Each car is about 4.5 centimeters in size. Since this is a capsule toy machine, there is no guarantee what you will get. But it does give you the freedom to construct your own Mugen Train, with any number of cars in any order.

Each car (aside from the front) will come with little character plates as well. The pairings for the plates are: Akaza and Rengoku, Tanjiro and Zenitsu, and Inosuke and Nezuko. Interestingly, in the actual anime and manga, Tanjiro spent more time with Inosuke, whereas Zenitsu and Nezuko protected the engers together off-screen. The car Enmu took over will only come with Enmu.

Though the anime started the Entertainment District Arc, merchandise for Mugen Train Arc is still coming out. For example, Good Smile Company will release a total of four figures from Rengoku and Akaza’s fight at the end of the arc. Prior Demon Slayer merchandise from Takara Tomy includes a Game of Life board game and a Nezuko-themed sewing machine for kids.

If you ever played Pokemon Sword or Shield and wished for your own Rotom phone, you’re in luck. Takara Tomy plans on releasing a Rotom phone toy in October 2021. It is officially called “Pokedex: Rotom Phone+” and will cost 10,990 yen. That converts to around $100. It will be available from toy stores, department stores, and the official Takara Tomy store. This is a newer version of the Rotom Phone that came out in July 2020. While it retains the ability to look for Pokemon from all eight regions and scanning them into your Pokedex, it also adds in “body actions.” Body actions allow you to move your body in 24 different ways in order to look for Pokemon, so it’s like you’re on your own adventure. Actions include jumping, spinning, climbing, and balancing.

While it is not a real phone by any means, there is a home screen with numerous apps similar to one. You can use the Rotom Phone+ as a stopwatch, alarm, and calculator. There are also mini-games such as a silhouette quiz for when you’re tired of looking for Pokemon. These functions increase as you gather more Pokemon, so the main focus is still on catching them all. It will also feature characters from the TV series.

Takara Tomy will also launch a series of Gengar capsule toys in late September, wich each roll costing about 300 yen. These toys feature Gengar in various poses and even in his Gigantamax form.

The Pokemon Sword and Shield Rotom Phone+ toy from Takara Tomy will come out in October 2021 for 10,990 yen.

Aniplex will release a pencil game based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s hit anime and manga series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The pencil game, titled "Keppuu Gekitou Enpitsu" is similar to a card game or visual combat book where you toss a pencil that has actions or damage numbers on each side. They plan to release four volumes for a total of twelve pencils. [Thanks, Gamer!]

Volumes 1 and 2 will come out in November 2021, with Volumes 3 and 4 arriving in December 2021. Each volume has three pencils, with one character per pencil.

• Volume 1: Tanjiro, Nezuko, Giyu
• Volume 2: Zenitsu, Inosuke, Urokodaki
• Volume 3: Shinobu, Kanao, Rui
• Volume 4: Rengoku, Enmu, Akaza

The character’s health is at the top of each pencil and each side has an ability, as well the attack and defense number of each ability. For example, one of Enmu’s skills can force a Human to skip a turn. Of course, you can also use these pencils as a normal 2B pencil without having to engage in demon slaying or human eating of any kind.

Speaking of Demon Slayer fighting games, Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles will release worldwide in October 2021. The Japanese version will come out on October 14, 2021, and the English version will release on October 15, 2021. Sega has also confirmed that the game will have dual audio, as well as subtitles in five different languages.

The Demon Slayer pencil game will arrive in November and December 2021, with three pencils per pack. They will cost 550 JPY each.

Jakks Pacific announced a new Mario playset over Twitter to celebrate Mario Day 2021. The Deluxe Bowser's Airship playset is based on his iconic airship. It will be released in Fall 2021 and cost $39.99.

The Bowser airship playset is large enough to accommodate some of Jakks Pacific’s line of 2.5” Mario toys. It even comes with a Mario. Its features include spinning propellers, cannons, wheels, a figurehead of Bowser’s face, and a storage space below deck for additional Mario toys. A rear-mounted depiction of Bowser’s head, six doors with Bowser’s face, and a rendition of Bowser’s airship theme music triggered with a push of a button further the King Koopa motif.

Jakks Pacific built up to the announcement through a series of tweets containing a “Mario Monday” hashtag. These depicted other Jakks Pacific Mario toys and playsets alongside an airship-shaped shadow.

Nintendo is also celebrating Mario Day 2021, which is celebrated on March 10th of every year. The company discounted four of its titles on the Nintendo Switch eShop by 35%. The discounted titles are Luigi’s Mansion 3, Mario Tennis Aces, Super Mario Maker 2, and Super Mario Party. The sale ends on March 13, 2021 at 11:59 PT.

Re-MENT will release a new series of Pokemon terrariums on June 26, 2021. This time, the theme focuses on the seasons. There will be six variations of the terrariums and they'll cost ¥800 (around $7) each. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

Like previous Pokemon terrariums from Re-MENT, these are surprise boxes, meaning you won’t know which terrarium you will get until you open it up. However, if you buy a full box of six, you can guarantee at least one of each kind. Each terrarium also comes with a piece of gum.

This is the line-up of terrariums:

1. A Whimsicott enjoying the breeze in a field (Spring)
2. A Pikachu surfing on the back of a Mantyke (Summer)
3. A Mimikyu and a Pumpkaboo standing around a jack-o’-lantern (Autumn)
4. An Emolga eating an apple while seated on a tree branch (Autumn)
5. A Glaceon in the middle of what looks like a snowy traditional Japanese garden (Winter)
6. A Fennekin sitting next to a tree that has started to bloom (Spring)

There is currently no individual close-up images of the terrariums, but a promotional picture was posted onto Re-MENT's Twitter.

Re-MENT and The Pokemon Company have a lengthy collaboration history. Not only do they make Pokemon-themed terrariums, but they will also release gemstone-themed Pokemon mini-dioramas in summer 2021. Additionally, they released stained glass Pokemon figures earlier this year.

The season-themed Pokemon terrariums will be released on June 26, 2021.

The newest Re-Ment Pokemon toys are in, and this time its pulling from the newest installment. A new collection of Pokemon Terrariums is available in Japan, giving people a chance to get clear Poke Balls filled with Pokemon Sword and Shield characters. They are about 800円 (~$8) each and immediately available.

As is typical for Re-Ment projects, these are blind box toys. You don’t know which one of the terrariums you’ll get. (Though, buying a full box of six will guarantee you one of each figure.) Every one gives you a scene from Galar to assemble and a piece of gum.

These sorts of Pokemon scenes aren’t uncommon for Re-Ment. The terrarium line is a rather long running one, for example. The company also has had collections of toys involving Pokemon Pocket Botanicals and a selection of Pokemon Starrium figures that were more celestial in nature. (Though again, in each case there were definitely excuses to make sure Pikachu was in there.)

There are new Cuphead toys, but you will have to visit Arby’s to get them. Studio MDHR and the restaurant shared the new kid’s meal announcement. When people buy any one of these meals, it will come in a themed bag and include a launcher with papercraft boss.

Arby’s social media actually shows what the Cuphead toys and bag look like. There are four “hero launchers,” based on characters like Cuphead, that launch discs. These come with paper enemies inspired by bosses from the game that you can build. For example, the brief video shows both King Dice and Cagney Carnation.

The Sonic the Hedgehog Nanoblock kits are about to drop in Japan. On June 23, 2020, three kits will appear in Japan for 1,200円 (~$11) each. People will be able to pick up a Sonic, Tails, or Eggman kit. However, preorders are already open on the Japanese Sega Store. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

The launch of these three Sonic the Hedgehog Nanoblock sets is designed to coincide with multiple occasions. First, the actual release date, June 23rd, is the day Sonic made his debut on the Genesis in 1991. That’s when the first game was released in North America. (It appeared in Europe and Japan a month later.) So part of this is to celebrate the character’s 29th birthday.

However, they are also showing up now in honor of the Sonic movie’s Japanese debut. Due to the pandemic, its release was pushed back in the region, causing it to launch there on June 26, 2020. As Hobby Watch noted, some theaters will even be selling these three Sonic the Hedgehog Nanoblock kits.

As for the designs, each one is about 66mm tall, though Tails is a bit shorter than both Sonic and Eggman and is only 61mm. Sonic and Tails are both 150 piece kits, while Eggman has 160 pieces. All three of them are labeled as level two difficulty kits, out of a possible five levels, so they shouldn’t be too hard to put together.

A special Neon Genesis Evangelion Nanoblock Unit-02 is available to purchase. Like many recently released Evangelion goods and merchandise, this special Nanoblock Unit-02 was released to commemorate the release of Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0. The Evangelion Nanoblock costs ¥1,800, or roughly $16, and stands 10.8cm tall. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

Once assembled, Neon Genesis Evangelion Nanoblock Unit-02's limbs can be positioned to create more dynamic poses. No weapons are included with this Nanoblock kit. Fans will need to get creative with other kits if they want to add accessories to the Unit-02.

Neon Genesis Evangelion originally began its run in Japan in October 1995. Evangelion: Death (True)2, the edit of 1997’s Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth, appeared in 1998. The End of Evangelion appeared in 1997. The Rebuild of Evangelion films, which offer a different take on the story, began airing in Japan in 2007 with Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance and Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo appeared in 2009 and 2012.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 currently has no release date and has been delayed multiple times. It originally had a 2016 release window. A new scheduled release date has not yet been announced.

After showing off some very pricey and gorgeous figures in the last issue of Collector's Corner, I thought it might be nice to highlight some more affordable ones this time around. Not only are the figures I'm sharing with you this week budget friendly, they're also pretty damn kawaii! Get ready for Pokemon Re-Ment toys and animal figures!

These adorable critters may not be from any well-known video game or anime/manga franchise, however they truly resemble how I feel on the weekends. Manas SUM is a small studio focused on bringing more Asian talent to the figure market. They partnered with an amazing Chinese artist Guodong Zhao to bring his Lazy Family figures to life. Each animal in this menagerie is chilling in its favourite beanbag chair and enjoying some quality gaming time.

The Lazy Family line of figures are affordable at only $25 a piece! Since these won't break the bank, you can buy just your spirit animal or a few of your favourites.

Perhaps you want to add some sparkle to your work desk. If so, I recommend ordering yourself a case of these Pokemon Starrium on a Starry Night figures from Re-Ment. A case contains six blind boxes and runs about $50 US. Odds are high that you'll score a full set from one case but isn't guaranteed. Bonus: each one comes with a piece of candy! There are six toys to collect: Pikachu, Lapras, Jirachi, Gardevoir, Umbreon, and Espeon.

Plush toys also make great for great desk decor. These Bungo Stray Dogs plush bears from SEGA are under $20 each and small enough to clip on your backpack. Who doesn't want to take a tiny Dazai and Chuuya out for a play date or on a cosplay photoshoot? These adorable bears are scheduled to release in November 2020, making them a great gift idea for the Bungo Stray Dogs fanatic in your life.
