ZUN, the original creator of Touhou Project who also runs Team Shanghai Alice, revealed the series' 20th mainline entry. The new game will appear under the title Touhou Kinjoukyou: Fossilized Wonders, and it will be available in mid-August 2025 at Comic Market 106 in Japan. A release outside of Comiket hasn't been announced yet.

To mark the major milestone of reaching the 20th mainline entry, ZUN will release Fossilized Wonders as an orthodox shoot 'em up game with linear stage progressions and multiple difficulty levels. The new game will also feature Wonder Stones that can provide additional kinds of attacks.

Fossilized Wonders will also return to the series' roots by having only Reimu and Marisa as the two available player characters. However, ZUN will still offer a decent amount of gameplay variations by adding eight Main Story Stones that the player can choose from at the beginning of a playthrough.

The preceding 19th mainline entry in 2023, Touhou Juuouen: Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost, primarily featured a versus mode with numerous playable characters. The gameplay system transition between the 19th and 20th entries is thus reminiscent of that between the 2005 9th entry—Touhou Kaeizuka: Phantasmagoria of Flower View—and the 2007 10th entry—Touhou Fujinroku: Mountain of Faith.

Touhou Kinjoukyou: Fossilized Wonders will appear first via a demo version release at the 22nd Hakurei Shrine Reitaisai event at Tokyo Big Sight on May 5, 2025. The full PC release will follow later at Comic Market 106, which will take place at the same venue on August 16-17, 2025. Team Shanghai Alice will also release the game digitally worldwide on Steam after that, as the company has done with past entries in the shoot'em up series.

The Japanese version of Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage (Project Sekai) has get an collaboration event involving Touhou Project. The event will take place from early May 2024.

It was announced at 1:34:34 of the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage anniversary stream for its 3.5 years of service. There will be three tracks from Touhou Project, with beatMARIO arranging them, that’ll appear in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. They are “Last Brutal Sister Flandre S,” “Bad Apple,” and “Help me, ERINNNNNN!!.” Next month’s stream will reveal which unit will sing “Bad Apple.”

During the stream, there were a few jokes as to whether or not kids these days are able to keep up with the Touhou Project information. This is likely due to the height of Touhou Project’s popularity being over a decade ago. In saying that, though, some younger netizens did not even know of Vocaloids until Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. So even though there are still new Touhou Project games and such coming out, younger fans might not know of its history.

Touhou Project is a bullet hell shoot ‘em up game that ZUN first released in 1997. Its popularity likely stems not only from the games themselves, but also because of its cast of cute girls. As for Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, it is a rhythm game in which human characters can access a world called SEKAI, which projects their true feelings and allows them to meet virtual Vocaloid singers.

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage is readily available on mobile devices, and the Touhou Project collaboration event will take place in early May 2024.

Good Smile Company is re-releasing the 2.0 Touhou Project Reimu Hakurei Nendoroid. She’ll come out in July 2024 for Japan and Q4 2024 for North America.

For those in Japan, she’ll cost 6800 JPY, which is approximately $46.30. If you purchase her from the North America shop, it will cost you $33.99. The updated Reimu Hakurei Nendoroid originally came out in June 2020, and it was an upgrade of the original 2011 Nendoroid. Both versions of the little figure have very similar face plates and optional parts. However, the 2.0 Nendoroid has a more modern aesthetic.

The Reimu Hakurei 2.0 Nendoroid will come with three face plates, which is standard for most Nendoroids. You can give her a standard cheery expression, a combative serious expression, and a cute relaxed expression. As for the optional parts, you can decorate her with her prayer rod, charm cards, a donation box, a cup of tea, and kneeling parts. With these parts, there is a wide variety of poses you can have display your Reimu. Unlike the original version of the Nendoroid though, the 2.0 edition will not come with a yin-yang stand.

Team Shanghai Alice and Mediascape released Touhou Juuouen (“Beast King Garden”) ~ Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost, entry 19 in the Touhou Project series of bullet-hell shooting games, at Comiket Summer 2023. The full game is now available on Steam at the price of $14.99. A demo of the game is available for free on Steam. Currently, the game is not available in English.

The game features a single-player story mode, PVP matches that are playable via split-screen, LAN play, or online play, Player vs. Computer matches, and Computer vs. Computer matches. In competitive mode, players will avoid the attacks of their opponent while sending barrages of bullets their way. The gameplay is similar to that of the ninth installment, Touhou Flower Reflecting Mound ~ Phantasmagoria of Flower View. Reimu, Marisa, and other characters fans will recognize return once again as playable characters.

This game, along with all of the other Touhou Project games that came prior, is developed by Team Shanghai Alice. They are a doujin group that has only one member — ZUN, the man behind the story, artwork, and programming for all of the Touhou Project games.

Touhou Juuouen 19 ~ Unfinished Dream of All Living Ghost is available now on Steam for $14.99. A demo of the game is also available on Steam for free. As of now, the game is only in Japanese.

Touhou: New World will be getting an official Western release, according to XSEED Games. The publisher confirmed they would be bringing the game to North America and Europe for the Nintendo Switch and PC, with a PlayStation release following at a later date.

Billed as a fan-made entry in the Touhou Project universe, Touhou: New World sees shrine maiden Reimu and magician Marisa battling enemies invading Gensokyo. The game is being developed by Ankake Spa, developers of Touhou: Scarlet Curiosity. Just like that game, Touhou: New World is an action RPG featuring the franchise’s trademark bullet hell design at the core of its gameplay.

XSEED are promising the game will be heavily customizable, with skill trees and equipment offering a wide selection of options. There will also be side quests as players explore Gensokyo, rewarding players with upgrades and tips to turn the tide in their favor.

Touhou: New World is the latest of several fan-games set in the universe, the most recent release being the farming sim Harvest Yuuka for Nintendo Switch.

Touhou: New World will be releasing sometime in North America and Europe in Summer 2023. It will be releasing digitally for Nintendo Switch and on PC via Steam. A PlayStation 4 and 5 release will follow sometime later in 2023.

A realm that collapsed into darkness will be reborn. Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lost is getting made, officially. Developer UnknownX released a promo for the resurrected title at Winter 2022 Indie Live Expo on December 4, 2022.

Phantasia Lost is the rebooted edition of mobile rhythm game Touhou Danmaku Kagura, which ended service in late October 2022. UnknownX began a crowdfunding campaign to fund its efforts to salvage the now-defunct gacha game as a single-release product on PC. That campaign has to date raised over 92 million Yen (about $675,423 USD), more than 6 times the initial funding target. These campaigns activated stretch goals for a Switch edition, as well as for a new theme song produced by band Kishida Kyoudan & The Akeboshi Rockets and singer-songwriter Kayoko Kusano.

The teaser tells the story of how Gensokyo, the home of the many characters of Touhou Project, fell to ruin, with its cities, people, and even memories subsumed by sand. Reimu Hakurei awakens, with no memory of who she was, and must collect the Mitama Cards to restore the lost memories of the realm, that it might be reborn in truth.

The rebooted edition of Danmaku Kagura will have the old gacha mechanics removed, and will be a title playable offline. It'll also be redesigned to controller-based play, and have an entirely rewritten story mode. UnknownX plans to the game post-release with free and paid DLC packs that add more Mitama Cards, songs, and stories.

Touhou Danmaku Kagura: Phantasia Lost is in development for PC and Nintendo Switch. It currently has a 2023 release window. Its crowdfunding campaign will run through January 9, 2023.

The 18.5th addition to the Touhou Project franchise, Black Market of Bulletphilia ~ 100th Black Market, has a page on the Steam online storefront. However, there is no release date or price tag as of yet. In of chronology, 100th Black Market takes place after Unconnected Marketeers and follows Kirisame Marisa on her investigation. According to the Steam page, it will have the same basic system as the previous game in which you collect Ability Cards to fight. There are also a lot of new cards. Under the modified battle system, the game will have a stronger element of randomness and speed to it. Additionally, the Steam page notes that there is no English for the game.

100th Black Market is a game that ZUN made to commemorate Comiket 100. Those visiting Comiket, which will take place on August 13 and 14, 2022, can actually get the game there. It is unclear if the Steam version will appear around that date or if it will be a while in the future. You can view some of the screenshots from the game on Steam as well. For example, there is a picture of a Cirno card that you can buy for 160 Bullet Money.

Black Market of Bulletphilia ~ 100th Black Market ~ will be the latest entry in the Touhou Project franchise. It will come out on Windows PC sometime in the near future.

Takanori Nishikawa, also known for their solo act T.M. Revolution, appeared in a commercial for Touhou Arcadia Record. Nishikawa dressed as popular Touhou Project character Reimu Hakurei. The commercial aired on Japanese televisions and is also available to watch on YouTube. [Thanks, Inside Games!]

The 30-second commercial initially features Nishikawa dressed as a Japanese high schooler. When his teacher catches him sleeping during class and throws a piece of chalk at him, Nishikawa transforms into Reimu Hakurei. Fittingly, Nishikawa's character is named "Nishikawa Reimu".

The transformation has Nishikawa fit snugly into a midriff-exposing outfit and full makeup, mimicking Reimu's appearance in the game.  Nishikawa then dodges an array of pink chalk, a la Touhou Arcadia Record’s side-scrolling shoot-em-up game mechanics.

The J-Pop musician is no stranger to the video game industry. Last year, miHoYo revealed that Nishikawa would voice the character Arataki Itto in Genshin Impact. He has also collaborated with games such as Azur Lane. Furthermore, Nishikawa has also voiced characters in several anime, including Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Sengoku Basara: End of Judgement. As T.M. Revolution, Nishikawa is best known for his song “Hot Limit”.

Touhou Arcadia Record is available to play on iOS and Android devices in Japan. There is no official English release.

AmiAmi has opened up pre-orders of a complete Flandre Scarlet figure from Touhou Project. The figure will cost 34,980 JPY, which is approximately $269.40. It's exclusive to AmiAmi, and it will come with two sets of hands parts for you to change her pose. The release window for this figure is May 2023. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

This figure uses the design from Honda Loalo. Honda is also the designer behind the VTuber avatars of Kuzuha and Nagao Kei from Nijisanji. You can either pose Flandre like she is holding an apple, or like she is hovering her fingers near her face. Flandre’s wings have prism shards on them, and the sculptor recreated them with clear materials that have a color gradation.

Flandre looks as if she is floating in the air, with roses underneath her and a window-like design behind her. In total, including the stand, the figure is about 250 millimeters tall. Due to the size of the figure, AmiAmi does warn on its website that the shipping costs may be high.

In the lore of Touhou Project, Flandre is the younger sister of Remilia Scarlet, and she lives in the basement of Scarlet Devil Mansion. She appeared as a bonus stage boss in Koumajou Densetsu, which was a fan-made doujin game from 2009. She will likely make an appearance in the Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, which is a remake of the game.

The Flandre Scarlet figure is open for pre-order via AmiAmi. It will ship in May 2023.

exA-Arcadia has revealed more details on its arcade game. A new press release for Touhou Perfect Sakura Fantastica provided a sneak peek at its gameplay system and appearing characters. The exA-Arcadia has still yet to publish any new images apart from the logo since the initial reveal in late September 2021.

However, the press release revealed that this game will be a port and remake of Touhou Makuka Sai - Fantastic Danmaku Festival Part II. The game that served as a basis for this arcade title is currently available on Steam.

exA-Arcadia also published a story synopsis that hints at the playable characters in Touhou Perfect Sakura Fantastica. Four characters will head out to investigate the unnatural snow and storms that are happening during the spring season. In addition to series staples Reimu and Marisa, the synopsis also mentions the Moriya Shrine maiden Sanae and the half-human and ghost Youmu.

The arcade title's gameplay system will have more than just normal shots and spell cards. Players will be able to activate a Barrier after filling up a gauge by collecting items and grazing enemy bullets.

Touhou Perfect Sakura Fantastica will appear on arcades. exA-Arcadia will set up a playable demo build of the arcade game at the 8th Hakurei Shrine Fall Reitaisai in Tokyo Big Sight on October 24, 2021.

exA-Arcadia announced that it is currently working on Touhou Perfect Sakura Fantastica. This title will be the first arcade game based on Touhou Project to be officially approved and licensed by ZUN's Team Shanghai Alice.

The arcade game creator has so far only published the Touhou Perfect Sakura Fantastica logo. It has not revealed any gameplay footage or character design in the title. However, it will reveal more details about the title at the 8th Hakurei Shrine Fall Reitaisai. The Touhou Project-specific doujin expo will take place at Tokyo Big Sight on October 24, 2021.

Touhou Project originated as a series of shoot'em up games created by a single developer. Jun'ya "ZUN" Oota made the gameplay, music, and characters all by himself and released the games on PC Engine and Windows PCs. The franchise's popularity in Japan spawned many fan-made derivative games.

The latest mainline game from ZUN is the 16th title Touhou Kouryudou ~ Unconnected Marketeers. It is immediately available on PC. Team Shanghai Alice released the game digitally first on Steam.

exA-Arcadia is not the only company working on a Touhou game. In July 2021, Cave revealed that it is developing its own game based on the same franchise after receiving consent from the IP holder. While Cave has yet to announce any platforms, it plans to release the game in 2022.

Touhou Perfect Sakura Fantastica will be available in arcades. exA-Arcadia has not announced a release window for the arcade game.

Japanese developer Cave has opened a new survey asking Touhou Project fans which characters they would like to see in its recently-announced Touhou game. Furthermore, the survey asks respondents about how they came to find the Touhou Project series, and what games they have played in the past. The survey will be open until September 3, 2021. Setting aside basic questions such as age and gender, the 11-part survey starts off with a heavy-hitter. Out of a list of 121 characters from the Touhou Project series, respondents must choose three characters that they'd like to see included on release day. Notably, the question specifically excludes Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame from the list.

The fourth question then asks when fans first became interested in Touhou Project. It also asks where they first learned about the series and which mainline games they've played. Furthermore, the survey asks what aspects of the game they'd deem most important. It lists elements such as character voices, communication with other s, and the use of spell cards and competitive play.

Interestingly, the final question asks fans which smartphone titles they play the most, listing other popular titles such as Fate/Grand Order and Genshin Impact. Details about the title are still scarce, and the questions could signal that the title in development may release on smartphone devices.

Japanese developer Cave has announced that it will be developing a new Touhou Project game. Details regarding the new game remain scarce. However, the project is scheduled to release sometime 2022. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Cave has developed several titles within the same genre as Touhou Project titles. This has included the DonPachi series, which saw more than a handful of sequels and game releases. The most recent DonPachi game, DoDonPachi Resurrection, released in 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Additionally, Cave will be developing the title under the IP of the Touhou Project games. As mentioned previously, the developer has experience within the "bullet hell shoot'em up" genre. That said, no further information regarding the project, including a title or concept, has been released. More information will come at a later date.

In June 2021, CFK and Frontier Aja announced that Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony will release on Nintendo Switch and PC. Unlike other Touhou related titles, this version draws direct inspiration from Castlevania. This includes its gameplay, which features side scrolling exploration through various environments. This title will arrive sometime in 2021. However, the game still does not have a specific release date.

A new Touhou Project related game is currently in development, with its platforms still unannounced. It will arrive sometime 2022.

CFK and Frontier Aja announced that the “Touhouvania” game Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony will appear on the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2021. The game is an HD remaster of the 2009 fanmade side-scroller, along with some additional content. Just what this content entails will be revealed in the near future. Players will take control of Reimu Hakurei as she visits Scarlet Devil Castle to defeat the latest disturbance threatening Gensokyo. In this case, the disturbance is Remilia Scarlet, who hopes to spread her mist throughout the land once again. As opposed to the bullet hell genre of the original Touhou series, Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony plays more like Castlevania. It is a side scroller in which you defeat enemies to get to a boss chamber, and the gothic aesthetic of the game only adds to the similarity. It was first released on Windows PC in 2009 at Comiket 79 under the name Koumajou Densetsu: Scarlet Symphony.

In of official Touhou Project games, Touhou Kouryudou ~ Unconnected Marketeers is now available on Steam. Other Touhou Project spin-off properties that will appear on PC are the fighting game Touhou DollDraft and the visual novel Hifuu Fragment.

The game will also have multilingual . Japanese, English, Simplied Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and French will be available at launch. Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony will release on the Nintendo Switch and PC sometime in 2021. The developers have not yet announced a price.

Phoenixx Inc announced the Touhou Project visual novel Hifuu Fragment will come to Steam. The title is already available on other PC storefronts, such as Booth. Phoenixx created a Steam store page and ed a promotional video for the reveal. The game will release on Steam in 2021. [Thanks, Gematsu!]

Developed by Shikaku Games, Hifuu Fragment is a visual novel based on the music CD series created by Shanghai Alice. Phoenixx described the title as a fan game or derivative work that feels like a puzzle or escape room game. This title takes place before the first Hifuu Club game, Rendai no Yakou ~ Ghostly Field Club. As for gameplay, the main characters of the Touhou Project visual novel will obtain memories called "fragments" from their conversations with each other. The story will then branch off from there. Phoenixx warned fans that, unlike other games in the visual novel genre, the player cannot aimlessly read the story and select all the dialogue options freely.

The Touhou brand is going strong with releases lately. The 2D tag-team fighting game Touhou Hyouibana ~ Antinomy of Common Flowers will launch worldwide on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Additionally, ZUN announced that the 18th mainline game Rainbow Dragon Cave ~ Unconnected Marketeers will release in May 2021.
