At Anime Expo 2024, Kotobukiya announced a The Ring Sadako Bishoujo figure. Now pre-orders are open at stores like Sideshow for the $160/18,000円 collectible ahead of her March 2025 debut in Japan and estimated April to June 2025 release worldwide. 

This is a static figure, though there are optional parts. In each case, Sadako is displayed floating above VHS tapes. It comes with extra tape, so you can adjust the level of film around her. No matter where you purchase her, she comes with the replacement part that shows her eye peeking through her hair instead of only hair obscuring her features. Select, official retailers, such as Kotobukiya direct or Sideshow, also include the “horror face part” that again reveals a single eye peeking through her hair. However, that expression looks more shocked.

There’s also a trailer highlighting different parts of the Sadako The Ring Bishoujo figure. Namely, it calls attention to the three difference face parts. She can be displayed with her hair completely covering her entire head, with one option that shows a single relaxed eye, or with a third option that is described as the horror face part.

The Ring Sadako Bishoujo figure will appear in Japan in March 2025. A worldwide release will follow, with the earliest possible appearance apparently being April 2025.

At Anime Expo 2024, Kotobukiya officially confirmed that Sadako, the main character from The Ring series of novels, movies, and manga, will the Bishoujo figure line. This comes after a teaser on July 3, 2024 that showed a video tape and a TV with static on it. On the second day of Anime Expo 2024, the company shared a picture of the painted prototype.

Here’s the official concept art for The Ring Sadako Bishoujo figure. As usual, it is done by Shunya Yamashita. The artist is behind all of the designs for characters in the collection. The art shows her face entirely covered by her long black hair, though a shadow in the background shows one eye peeking out. She will wear a white dress and be surrounded by video tapes. This is a reference to how she spreads and attacks people.

Many horror icons are a part of the Bishoujo figure line. In each case, the design depicts them as a beautiful young woman. So in 2023, one based on the 2017 version of Pennywise from It appeared. Beetlejuice also ed the lineup in 2020. Vampirella is going to be one of the next characters to after Sadako.

While no prototype of the Sadako figure will appear at the event, other exclusive merchandise will be at Kotobukiya’s booth. The company confirmed it will have Bishoujo figure variants of Cliff Jumper from Transformers, a Medical Officer from Star Trek, and Lilith from Darkstalkers.

There’s no release window for the Sadako The Ring Bishoujo figure. Anime Expo runs July 4-7, 2024 at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.

Good Smile Company’s Kahotan announced the Japanese release of the new Nendoroid figure of Sadako from The Ring. The figure costs 7,800 JPY. The figure is now available for purchase from the Good Smile Company Japanese online store. Meanwhile, the North American debut of the figure is set for Q3 2023, and it costs $51.99. Pre-orders are still available from the North American Good Smile Company online store.

The new Nendoroid includes two optional parts, one being Sadako’s well and the other one being the emblematic video tape with the curse. Other interchangeable parts include a grinning face and a vicious face, as well as various different hairstyles for Sadako that allow the figure to show more mobility. Furthermore, a background sheet for the TV was included as well.

As a reminder, other Nendoroid figures recently announced include a Final Selection version figure of Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer, as well as a Honkai: Star Rail prototype figure of Dan Heng.

Universal Studios Japan is inviting guests to discover "The Seven Wonders of Sadako." A new promotion tied into the Ring franchise and its central attraction Sadako Yamamura will bring guests to the park during nighttime hours for a unique horror experience. Called the Sadako ~ The Forbidden Online Park Tour ~, the USJ Sadako Tour event kicks off in Japan on November 25, 2022, running through December 5, 2022.

One thing to note about the USJ Sadako Tour is that it's actually an online event. Participants via their smartphone or PC rather than physically visit Universal Studios Japan.

The tour is best seen as a combination of a livestream and group video call, where two to four participants experience the tour together (the system can up to eight people, though). Participants the Sadako tour via a livestreaming platform called Thumva. Once in a session, they can chat with each other and see each other on stream at the same time as the actual performance. The event involves active participation, so the participants will solve puzzles or have some agency in the performance, like if an escape room attraction were reformatted as an online event. Participants who use the LINE instant messaging app can also receive messages, clues, and other tips to enhance the experience.

The premise of the Universal Studios Japan Sadako Tour is that participants are visiting the park at night to uncover "The Seven Wonders of Sadako", and then fall prey to the ghost's unique video-based curse. With a time limit counting down the minutes before they die horribly, the guests must put their heads together and survive the terror.

The USJ Sadako Tours begin on November 25, 2022 and run through December 4, 2022 in Japan. Tickets cost 2,500 Yen (about $17 USD) per person.

Good Smile Company announced a new horror icon figure, as a Sadako Nendoroid is on the way. The figure will show up in July 2023 in Japan. Then, a few months later she'll make her North American debut in September 2023. Pre-orders for the character are open, and she costs ¥7,800/$51.99. Sadako will come with her familiar well and TV, so new owners can set up scenes.

You can pose her so it looks like she's rising out of her well.

With the TV, the Sadako figure an be arranged so it looks as though she is pulling herself out of it. Rather than a plastic figure, this is a sheet that people can put the Nendoroid through.

There are also two face plates included with the Sadako Nendoroid, even though her hair almost entirely covers her face. A second "bangs" place allows one of her eyes to be exposed. One option features a frantic, bloodshot eye peeking out.

In the final example photo, a happy(?) Sadako seems to be offering her new owner her VHS tape to watch.

Good Smile Company also announced a special purchase bonus if people buy the figure direct from its storefront. People will get a second "TV" option that makes it look like static is on the screen.

Sadako has been quite busy lately. She got her own YouTube channel when 2022 began, and she started offering taxi rides in Tokyo in October 2022.

The Sadako Nendoroid will come to Japan in July 2023 and North America in September 2023, and pre-orders for the figure are open until December 1, 2022.
