Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is finally available for Nintendo Switch and not exclusive to just the Wii U. With this release, there are only a few meaningful Wii U titles left on the system that are not available on modern platforms. The Siliconera staff has come together to give our thoughts on the Wii U games we want to see as a remaster or remake on Nintendo Switch next.

Siliconera Speaks Up: Wii U Remaster We Want Next 4q3w6z

It's been nearly a decade since we've sat in the cockpit of an Arwing. If a new installment isn't in the works, I'd at least like to see Star Fox Zero remastered for the Switch 2. With some upgraded visuals and a few tweaks to the controls, there's enough there to satiate the ever-growing hunger of Star Fox fans…for the time being, at least. -- Thomas

When it comes to kart racers Mario Kart will always be considered the king, but Mario Kart 8 isn't my favorite Wii U character racer. I'm a Sega kid at heart, and in the long running battle between the two titans, I think that Sonic has won the battle on the race track. If Diddy Kong Racing could live in harmony with Mario Kart 64, I believe that Switch players should be able to experience the joy that Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed brings. Switching from cars to planes to boats seamlessly, it remains my favorite rocket road racer. -- George

With the release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, that is almost every single game on the Wii U that I have been looking forward to. That is, of course, except for the remastered Zelda titles. Twilight Princess, in particular, is a game that I need to see on either the original Switch or Switch 2. Twilight Princess is shamefully one of the only Zelda games I have never played, which is ironic since its style is one of the most appealing to me, personally. I would love to see Twilight Princess make a return on the Switch 2 so I can finally see how it ranks against the other amazing titles in the series. -- Cody

Which Legend of Zelda Game Should I Play First

Pretty much everyone i stalking about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in 2023. After all, it’s a follow-up to a critically acclaimed installment and one of the biggest releases this year. But someone might also wonder if it is really the best The Legend of Zelda game to play at the moment, especially if someone is new to the series and it would be their first one. It’s going to be big and intimidating! Since I’ve been playing entries in the series since the NES, I figured suggesting different sorts of installments could help people pin down the right one to pick up and play.

I want to play the newest The Legend of Zelda game first: Tears of the Kingdom 3983k

I figured let’s start this out with an easy one. If you don’t care about history, gameplay, or style of gameplay and just want the newest game, go with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It’s the newest possible entry and you can find it on the Nintendo Switch.

However, since it is a sequel, I’d say you really might want to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild first if you can.

I want to play what may be all-time best The Legend of Zelda game first: A Link to the Past 3d705r

While the original NES The Legend of Zelda titles lay an incredible foundation, A Link to the Past is perhaps one of the best games ever made. The artistry, game design, dungeons, and premise are all pretty much perfect. It appeared on the SNES, GBA (with Four Swords), 3DS, Wii, and Wii U via Virtual Console, and Nintendo Switch Online.

I want to play one of the all-time greatest 3D The Legend of Zelda games first: The Ocarina of Time d611o

The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is a formative game. It isn’t just a wonderful The Legend of Zelda title. Both it and A Link to the Past should basically be mandatory playing for anyone who wants to really understand action games with a real sense of adventure. The storyline is great, the dungeons are fantastic, the time travel mechanic is wonderful, and it’s a delight. You can find it on the N64, GameCube, Wii and Wii U via Virtual Console, Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, and 3DS.

[caption id="attachment_962574" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Which Legend of Zelda Game Should I Play First? Image via Nintendo[/caption]

I want to play a bright and colorful The Legend of Zelda game first: The Wind Waker 29675f

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is one of the brightest and most vibrant versions of Hyrule people will get to explore. It’s one of the cel-shaded entries, and it also sets itself apart with its sea-faring ways. You can find it on the GameCube and Wii U.

I want to play a more unconventional The Legend of Zelda games first: Majora’s Mask 35105y

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is weird in many wonderful ways. It’s a direct follow-up to The Ocarina of Time. It relies upon masks for different abilities and progression. It’s incredibly dark, as we see a moon about to crush everything. Plus there’s a time loop that involves repeating days until you can get everything done to save the day. It’s good! You can find it on the N64, GameCube, Wii and Wii U via Virtual Console, Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, and 3DS.

I want to play a darker The Legend of Zelda game first: The Twilight Princess 59723e

While it isn’t an open-world game, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is a huge game with fantastic dungeons, the glorious gremlin-like assistant Midna, and a version of Link that can transforms into a wolf. It’s a darker title in many ways, both in of appearance and knowing Twilight infested Hyrule. It’s definitely worth someone’s time. You can find it on the GameCube, Wii, and Wii U.

I want to play a multiplayer The Legend of Zelda game first: Four Swords Adventures 5v6263

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures is so much fun! You can get together and form a group of four people who all control a “Link” to solve puzzles and progress through the adventure. It’s a wonderful GameCube game. Though also, if you can’t find it, then Four Swords on the GBA (via The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past) or The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition on the DSi or 3DS if you have it is also a lot of fun.

twilight princess   New comparison videos have appeared that show off the opening section of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Chinese Nvidia Shield TV before and after the graphics update that was created via deep learning technology. [Thanks, Chinese Nintendo!]   Here’s the original HD-upscaled version that was released last year:   And here is the latest version with the updated graphics:   You can also check out how the graphics compare to the Wii U’s Twilight Princess HD in our previous report here. Interestingly, this graphical update isn’t forced, so you can still play with the original graphics if you want to. This may be due to the additional filesize, as it has increased from 1.3GB to 4.07GB thanks to the updated textures.   The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was originally released on Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii, and is also available on Wii U as Twilight Princess HD. The game is available on the Nvidia Shield TV in China.

The-Legend-of-Zelda-Twilight-Princess-HD-Golden-Bugs-Location-Guide The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts artbook is scheduled to release in February next year in the west. The book is already out in Japan and is filled with over 400 pages worth of official artwork, illustrations, and interviews. In one such interview, artist Satoru Takizawa revealed that Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was originally being worked on as a sequel to Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]   This sequel would have featured Link exploring by land rather than sea, though this proved challenging to implement due to Wind Waker Link’s design. Eventually, illustrater Yusuke Nakano was brought on to the team to help with a more “realistic” redesign for Link.   Here’s a look at an excerpt from the interview:

Realistic Link came back four years after Wind Waker in Twilight Princess, which was released on GameCube and Wii. The pendulum returned again to the realistic direction, but what kind of circumstances resulted in it?   Takizawa: To tell you the truth, we had begun the initial steps towards creating Wind Waker 2 around that time. However, demand for a more Ocarina-like game was growing by the day. We did our very best with Wind Waker, and put everything we had into it…   Takizawa: However, Wind Waker 2 would have taken place in a more land-based setting, rather than on the sea, so that we could have Link could gallop across the land on a horse. But Link’s proportions in Wind Waker weren’t very well suited for riding on horseback, he was too short, and an adult version of Toon Link did not seem appropriate either. So, while we were stuck on those problems, we became aware of the greater demand for a more realistic, taller Link. High-budget live-action fantasy movies were also huge at the time, so with all things considered, we decided to have at it. I was on board with the project as art director, and started off by bringing [Yusuke] Nakano on to do the design for Link.   So the project began with Mr. Nakano’s Link as the basis?   Takizawa: He had ed after the graphics testing process, when we were trying to figure out the game’s “product-level visual identity”. I think that was the first time we had ever brought him on during that part of development.   Nakano: Yes. That was the first time for an internally developed Zelda game.

If you scan a Wolf Link amiibo into Super Mario Maker, you'll get a The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess-inspired costume for Mario.

Many of Nintendo’s amiibo are compatible with Super Mario Maker for the Nintendo Wii U. If the NFC figure is tapped to the GamePad, you’ll get a Mystery Mushroom costume to use in the game. It turns out The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD’s Wolf Link amiibo unlocks a new costume.

When a Wolf Link amiibo is scanned into Super Mario Maker now, a costume tied to it will appear as the 132nd costume in-game. As an unexpected quirk, the text for the costume is currently in Japanese. (It reads, “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Wolf Link.) Pres while in the Wolf Link costume will trigger a pose where Midna points with her hair, and it has wolf barking sound effects. Dying or reaching the end of the level in the costume causes sound clips from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to play.

Illustrator Ástor Alexander has created a series of Nintendo-themed pulp magazine covers that show Mario, Peach, Link, Zelda, and Samus Aran in a way you probably haven’t before.

The series of images is simply called “Pulp Nintendo” and, so far, features three magazine covers by Alexander. The first titled “Taken…Again” one can be seen below, and it shows Mario armed with a handgun moving into a mansion to rescue Princess Peach.

Next up is a pulp cover titled “Twilight Gal” which, as you might guess from that title, is based on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Yep, the guy in green, looking like a 1920s criminal, is actually Link. While the woman sat on the table is, of course, Princess Zelda.

The third one is called “The Bounty Hunter” and features Samus Aran sporting a very 1940s chic astronaut outfit, including the classic-looking ray gun. Naturally, she’s blasted a golf ball-sized hole in the green forehead of an alien.

You can see more of Alexander’s illustrations on his Behance page. All of these Pulp Nintendo mock magazine covers are available as prints for $18 each on Society6.

Smooth McGroove, known for performing a-cappella arrangements of famous videogame music, has shared his latest creation—the House Theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Of course, the House Theme has been used in more than just that game. It was also present in Majora’s Mask, The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

While digging through Nintendo’s latest annual report, we came across sales numbers for some of their more high-profile Wii games. We’ve edited the chart below to include each game’s year of release in the U.S., so our readers have some indication of how long it took each game to reach its current figure. Sales figures below are worldwide, as of March 2011:

I was a little taken aback by the figure for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, as I -- perhaps wrongly -- expected it to be higher. Twilight Princess was also available on the Gamecube, and the last recorded sales number for the Gamecube version was 1.32 million units sold by 2007.

Note: Wii Sports was originally a pack-in with the Wii in the U.S. and Europe. In May 2010, Wii Sports Resort became a pack-in game alongside Wii Sports with the black Wii bundle. In May 2011, Mario Kart Wii became a pack-in game for a new Wii bundle.

The Wii will now be bundled with Mario Kart Wii for $150, instead of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

Come May 15th, Nintendo will officially drop the Wii’s price to $149.99 in the U.S., and introduce a new hardware bundle consisting of a Wii system and Mario Kart Wii, which will take the place of the previously-included Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

The new bundle will be available in both black and white, and will also include the Wii Wheel accessory, which comes with Mario Kart Wii, in a matching colour. The new black Wii Wheel will also be available separately for $10.

Nintendo are introducing a budget games set, titled “Nintendo Selects,” with each game priced at $19.99. So far, only four games for the Nintendo Selects line have been announced: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers and Wii Sports, which is now available as a standalone game.

In Japan, Nintendo have a more elaborate budget line arrangement. Their “Everyone’s Recommendation Selection” line of games relies on votes for various games to be given a budget re-release, submitted by fans through their Wii systems. Rune Factory Frontier and Tales of Graces were recently added to the line.
