Takara Tomy revealed via its official Zoids X that it has opened pre-orders for the Spider-Zoids Synergenex action figures. The company will release the crossover toys featuring Zoids and Spider-Man in April 2025.

The new action figure will appear in two color variants. The first one will sport Spider-Man's regular red-and-blue palette, and the other will be mostly black. With a scale of 1/35, the Spider-Man figure will be around 50 mm (~1.97 inches) tall when he stands up by himself. Meanwhile, the Spider-Zoids will have an overall length of around 115 mm (~4.53 inches).

The company did not specify a website in its announcement tweet. However, pre-orders for the action figures are available on web stores like AmiAmi. Both the regular and black variants have the same MSRP of 4,400 yen (~$30.79), but AmiAmi is offering discounts so people can order each of them at just 3,520 yen (~$24.49) apiece.

Spider-Zoids was one of the numerous products Takara Tomy announced when it revealed its new crossover toy brand Synergenex in late August 2024. The company will release crossover action figures between Zoids and Transformers, along with many more external franchises, such as Godzilla, Macross, and Monster Hunter.

Spider-Man fans might recall that Alistair Smythe, the inventor of the Spider Slayers, was a part of The Amazing Spider-Man game, which was a story we broke last year.

Alistair, in addition to Dr. Otto Octavius, was employed at Oscorp, and was responsible for building the drones (and later Spider Slayer robots) that were meant to keep cross-species hybrids like Spider-Man in check, in order to prevent further incidents like the one involving the Lizard.

Now, it looks like Alistair is making his way into the movie version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Director Marc Webb revealed over Twitter (thanks, SuperHeroHype) that Alistair will be played by B.J. Novak in the movie. Additionally, while he hasn’t been confirmed for the movie yet, Alistair’s father, Spencer Smyth, is working at Oscorp as Head Engineer, according to the movie’s viral blog.

Alistair Smythe isn’t the only example of a character from the videogames making it over into the movies. The Rhino was featured in The Amazing Spider-Man game as well, and he, too, will be in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie. That leaves us with two more game characters that haven’t been confirmed for the new movie yet—Otto Octavius and the Scorpion, who was created using the Venom symbiote.

Of course, just because they aren’t in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn’t mean we won’t see them in future movies. You’ve probably heard that The Sinister Six—who Octavius is part of—and Venom are set to get their own spin-off movies at some point.

Marvel have always maintained that The Amazing Spider-Man games and movies are only loosely-connected, and that they both take place in their own separate universe, but oddly enough, it almost feels as though the games are signalling the future of the movies a couple of years in advance. If that’s the case, I wonder what The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will tell us about the future of the movie franchise. A recent trailer for the game did reveal Kraven the Hunter...

Spider-Man got a Nendoroid figurine earlier this year, and now it’s Iron Man’s turn. Iron Man Mark 7: Hero’s Edition is a fully posable Iron Man Nendoroid, based on his design in The Avengers, and the Good Smile Company showed him off on their blog recently. The NPD Group's sales report for the month of July is out, and indicates that total physical sales across the games industry dropped to $548.4 million. That's a 20% decline from July 2011.

Hardware sales were down year-over-year by 32%. “Of the hardware platforms that were on the market last July, only one, the 3DS, realized a unit sales increase over last year," says the NPD's Anita Frazier. Additionally, while the DS and 3DS saw increased sales over the month prior, all other platforms declined from their June numbers.

Meanwhile, physical software sales in the U.S. (this includes PC games) dropped by 23% year-over-year to $278.2 million. The important thing to note is that this only s for physical goods. The NPD estimate that if you were to take digital sales—including full game purchases, DLC, rentals, subscriptions and mobile apps into —the spend on software would amount to $1.1 billion.

While it isn't mentioned in the list above, the NPD Group point out that, if the list were divided up by individual console SKUs, Pokémon Conquest would be in the top-ten (again) as well. They also pointed out that both Batman: Arkham City and Dead Island saw a boost, thanks to the release of their Game of the Year editions.

For the month of August, the NPD Group look forward to the release of New Super Mario Bros.2 and Sleeping Dogs, which is a new I.P. that has "garnered a fair amount of buzz".

Activision and High Moon Studios (Transformers: War for Cybertron) have announced that a new game based on Marvel Comics character, Deadpool, is in development.

While no details of the project have been announced yet, a teaser website for the game has been erected, and is scheduled to open completely in a little over four hours. We’ll have more details as they become available.

A Spider-Man Nendoroid? It’s coming. The Good Smile Company posted images of a prototype for a new Spider-Man Nendoroid figure last night, based on his look from The Amazing Spider-Man movie. Unlike the Nendoroids you typically see, this one’s a tad more advanced, being fully posable:

Like previous Spider-Man games, The Amazing Spider-Man will have extra costumes to unlock. Beenox revealed one of these this week:

Wondering what that is? Marvel say it’s “Spider-Morphosis” from The Amazing Spider-Man issue #437. In addition to this costume, Beenox also shared that you have the option play in Spider-Man’s regular costume, but without his new belt, which is specific to the movie game. Here’s a comparison:

The option to get rid of the belt will be made available after you reach Peter's apartment. Beenox say that more unlockable costumes for the game will be revealed in the near future. Finally, they also ed a new clip of the Web Rush feature, which you can watch below:

Now, you can finally catch a glimpse of what Lee’s mission looks like. He appears to have all of Spider-Man’s powers but his own dialogue:

Beenox keep talking up the free-roaming feature in The Amazing Spider-Man game, which throws you back into Manhattan and lets you swing around the city, finding side missions and chases to complete. Activision and Beenox have barely released any information on the Nintendo 3DS version of The Amazing Spider-Man, but what seem like the first screenshots of the game were revealed today via Nintendo’s website. The page for the game and its free eShop demo contains just three screenshots:

The Nintendo eShop demo, which you can now, starts off with the Black Cat robbing a bank, and you’re required to foil the robbery. The demo has three difficulties available, and can be played up to ten times.

The full  version of The Amazing Spider-Man will be released on June 26th, alongside the console versions. As previously reported, the Nintendo 3DS and Wii versions don’t have the free-roaming feature from the console versions.
