During the August, 2024 Nintendo Partners Direct, Digital Eclipse announced Tetris Forever, a title celebrating the 40th anniversary of the classic puzzle game Tetris. The new game contains everything from classic titles, to documentary footage about the making of Tetris, to an entirely new game mode.

Some of the classic Tetris games included in the collection are the following: Tetris, Tetris 2 + Bobliss, Tetris Battle Gaiden, Hatris, and more. Tetris: Time Warp, an entirely new entry in the Tetris franchise, will have players going through different styles of gameplay from across the series' history.

Beyond the gameplay, Tetris Forever will also feature a full documentary on the history of the game, talking about its creation and the key figures in its development. In addition, Nintendo Switch Online will bring the original Nintendo Entertainment System version of Tetris to all subscribers alongside a new Tetris 99 Grand Prix in Winter of 2024.

Tetris Forever will be released on Nintendo Switch in the 2024. Tetris NES and the Tetris 99 Grand Prix will appear through the Nintendo Switch Online service in Winter of 2024.

The 32nd Tetris 99 Maximus Cup is about to begin this weekend, and it will offer a chance to earn a Fire Emblem Engage theme. Officially titled the 32nd Maximus Cup – Alear Edition, it will take place March 24-27, 2023. People will need to play enough matches to earn 100 event points to get its limited edition in-game theme.

The Tetris 99 Fire Emblem Engage theme features characters and music from the game. The male and female versions of Alear appear on the left and right sides of the screen. In the field, there's a picture of Emblem Marth. All tetrominos feature Fire Emblem weapon symbols like swords, polearms, axes, fists, bows, daggers, and tomes.

This isn't the first time a Fire Emblem crossover appeared in Tetris 99. A crossover appeared for Fire Emblem: Three Houses as well. That showed up back in August 2019. That theme involved Claude, Dimitri, and Edelgard with the Garreg Mach Monastery Officer's Academy in the background.

Tetris 99 is available for the Nintendo Switch, and the Fire Emblem Engage 32nd Maximus Cup – Alear Edition will run March 24-27, 2023.

Nintendo announced a Monster Hunter Rise and Tetris 99 collaboration event, beginning on October 8, 2021 and lasting until October 12, 2021. The event is exclusive to Tetris 99 but feature music from Monster Hunter Rise. The Tetris blocks have also been changed slightly to feature symbols from the Monster Hunter series. Music that will play during the event include the Monster Hunter theme medley from Monster Hunter Rise and the Magnamalo theme. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Players can obtain the event theme by collecting 100 event points during the duration of the collaboration. Event points will be distributed to players based on their rankings during individual matches. This means that players can simply grind out event points during this period to obtain the theme.

Tetris 99 has featured several collaboration events in the past. This includes a Tetris 99 and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword collaboration event. Players could obtain a unique Skyloft theme in Tetris 99 through the event. Like the Monster Hunter Rise collaboration, the theme features unique music. Players could receive this theme through event participation, but only for a limited time.

Tetris 99 is immediately available for Nintendo Switch. Monster Hunter Rise is available for Nintendo Switch, with a PC version set to release on January 12, 2021.

Tetris 99 players will be able to obtain a special The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword theme for a limited time. To celebrate the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, a special collaboration is currently underway. From August 6 to August 10, 2021 players can participate in the collaboration to receive a special theme. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

In order to obtain the Skyward Sword HD theme in Tetris 99, players only need to score 100 points during the event period. However, the game will calculate these points based on your score through the leaderboards. Details regarding the event can be found on the official website. Nintendo has also released a video to showcase this new theme. The Skyward Sword HD theme will feature unique music and sound effects. You can watch it in action below:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD released on July 16, 2021. This version of the game has several quality of life features, along with the option to pick from two available control schemes. Quality of life changes include the option to switch Fi's assistance to be less intrusive. Additionally, Nintendo released a Zelda & Loftwing amiibo that allows players to fast travel around the map.

Tetris 99 and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD are immediately available on the Nintendo Switch.

People have a reason to play Tetris 99 this weekend. There will be a new theme to collect. Nintendo announced the game’s 22nd Maximus Cup. If you participate this time, people will earn a Mario Golf: Super Rush theme to use in Tetris 99. This event will begin July 9, 2021.

Nintendo shared a video so people would have a better idea of how the Mario Golf: Super Rush theme will look in Tetris 99. This will be the default active theme during the event. If you earn 100 points (you don’t have to earn a high place on the board to do so), you permanently add this customization option to your collection.

This is the fourth Tetris 99 Maximus Cup with a special theme in 2021. First, one showed up for Kirby Fighters 2. Then, Bowser’s Fury and Miitopia ones showed up.

Mario Golf: Super Rush and Tetris 99 are available for the Nintendo Switch. The 22nd Maximus Cup will run July 9-12, 2021. You need an active Nintendo Switch Online hip to play Tetris 99 online and take part in Maximus Cup challenges.

Nintendo announced the next Tetris 99 Maximus Cup will involve a Miitopia theme. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to play between June 18-21, 2021 to earn the new look in the game. As long as someone earns 100 points by playing during the period, the free theme will be added to their assortment of possible designs.

Here’s a brief trailer showing how the Miitopia Tetris 99 theme will look. It features the in-battle music from the customizable RPG. The background features the official art for the Switch version of the game. Each tetrimino design has one of the job class weapons’ icons on it, which vary depending on their shape and color.

This is the first new Tetris 99 theme in a while. The 20th Maximus Cup was held back in March 2021. That offered a chance to get a Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury theme in-game.

The next Tetris 99 Maximus Cup will appear this weekend. This time, people have a chance to earn a Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Tetris 99 theme inspired by the game’s new elements. It will run between March 5-8, 2021.

The new theme shows Mario and Bowser Jr. at the feet of Fury Bowser. This is the new version of the villain people face at Lake Lapcat, the new location in the Bowser’s Fury mode. The music playing is a new theme song for the area. It also replaces traditional Tetris 99 sound effects with ones from the new game.

This is the second new Tetris 99 theme in 2021. The first showed off characters and elements from Kirby Fighters 2.

Tetris 99 is available for free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers and can be purchased alone. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is available for the Nintendo Switch.

There’s a new Tetris 99 Maximus Cup event on the way. This time, things are going to look very pink and very puffy. The Tetris 99 Kirby Fighters 2 event will run January 7-11, 2021.

As usual, participating and earning the special reward for the event isn’t too taxing. All you need to do is earn 100 in-game points by participating in the battle royale matches during the event. No matter which place you earn, you’ll earn points. If you meet the threshold, the Tetris 99 Kirby Fighters 2 theme is permanently available.

Kirby Fighters 2 itself is a Nintendo Switch-exclusive fighting (and smooching) game starring various forms of Kirby. (Each one has a different Copy Ability.) You can fight through it alone, or with an ally. There’s even a demo.

This is the second “new” Tetris 99 theme to be released in the last few months. Back in November 2020, there was a Super Mario All-Stars event in honor of Mario’s anniversary.

Tetris 99 is available for free for all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, though someone can also buy a physical copy and continue to play even if you don’t maintain a subscription. The Tetris 99 Kirby Fighters 2 event will be held January 7-11, 2021.

A Tetris 99 Super Mario event is on the way! While there have been Mario-related themes in the game before, some of which you can earn without participating in its Maximus Cups, this one is Super Mario All-Stars themed in honor of the series’ 35th anniversary. You can participate between December 4-7, 2020.

As is customary with these unique Tetris 99 themes, everyone gets to use the theme during the weekend event. If you earn 100 points, you unlock that theme for permanent use in-game. Nintendo even shared a video, so you can get an idea of what its remixed music and general UI look like.

This is the first “new” theme in a while. For a while, we were seeing reruns in Tetris 99. For example, Nintendo brought back the Animal Crossing, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Pokemon themes over the last few months.

Once again, Nintendo is giving people a chance to collect one of those Tetris 99 themes they might have missed. This time, it’s happening at an extremely appropriate time. One week before The Crown Tundra DLC arrives for Pokemon Sword and Shield, people will be able to earn the Pokemon Tetris 99 theme from October 2019 again between October 16-19, 2020.

Like all Tetris 99 themes, this one is pretty easy to earn. You just during the event, earn 100 points, and you then have the theme to use forever in your copy of the game. The theme is also in effect throughout the duration of the event. As usual, you need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to participate.

Nintendo’s been giving people a lot of chances to get old Tetris 99 themes again in 2020. Previously, people had a second shot to get the ones inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Ring Fit Adventures.

Tetris 99 is available for the Nintendo Switch and can be played online if you have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The Pokemon Sword and Shield theme will be available to earn between October 16-19, 2020.

A few Tetris 99 themes are coming back! Nintendo announced that people who missed out on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and Ring Fit Adventures designs will have a chance to play and call dibs on them in August 2020. In each instance, people will only need to earn 50 points, instead of 100, from playing to get the background.

The first returning theme is the one for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It originally appeared in May 2020. It will return on August 14, 2020 and run until August 16, 2020. In case you missed it, here’s what that one looks like in action.

The Luigi's Mansion 3 Tetris 99 theme is up second. It's the oldest in the group, as it first appeared back in October 2019. People will get a second chance to earn it between August 17-19, 2020.

Finally, there's the Ring Fit Adventure theme. It debuted back in April 2020. People will get their second chance to grab a copy between August 20-22, 2020.

Tetris 99 is continuing its tradition of bringing newly released Nintendo games into its challenges. The 15th Maximus Cup is about to begin on July 31, 2020. When it does, a Tetris 99 Paper Mario: The Origami King theme will be in effect and available for people to earn until August 3, 2020.

As usual, earning the event theme won’t be terribly difficult. You need to earn 100 in-game points from battle royale matches to permanently add the design to your collection. No matter where you place in the game, you’ll still earn points toward that goal.

The last few Tetris 99 Maximus Cups have all pulled from recent releases for inspiration. Last month, we saw a Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition crossover. Before that was Animal Crossing: New Horizons. While Ring Fit Adventures is finally a bit more commonly found in stores, for a time it was much easier to find it in Tetris 99.  

Tetris 99 and Paper Mario: The Origami King are both immediately available for the Nintendo Switch.

A new Tetris 99 Xenoblade Chronicles event has been revealed. A new theme is on the way, but you’ll have to wait until next month to earn it. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who take part in the July 3-6, 2020 event will be able to play while a theme from the series and Shulk watches from the background. Also, the UI for this design looks like the Monado.

As is common with these events, earning the theme doesn’t require any money. You turn up for the Tetris 99event and earn 100 points. (The higher you place in a match, the more points you earn.) Once you hit 100, it is permanently unlocked as an option for you.

Animal Crossing New Horizons and Tetris  are both known for being relaxed gaming experiences, but both have their darker sides. Animal Crossing can ratchet up the tension when players are hoping for good prices on the Stalk Market, and Tetris has Tetris 99, the Nintendo Switch-exclusive game that introduced battle royal to the venerable block-dropping environment. And this week, come the 13th Maximus Cup event, players will see the two brands meet. Players who play Tetris 99's online mode between May 15, 2020, and May 18, 2020 will get the chance to earn a new theme inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Tetris 99 has periodically offered new themes based on iconic or hot Nintendo properties. Most recently, the 12th Maximus Cup event unlocked a Ring Fit Adventure theme for participants.

Actually unlocking the Animal Crossing: New Horizons theme will take more than ing the Tetris 99 event once. As with previous theme unlocks, players will need to accumulate a certain amount of event points to trigger the unlock. Playing online in Tetris 99 mode will do the trick, and the better a player does, the more points they earn, up to the 100 points needed to unlock the theme. Lucky or skilled players might even unlock the theme in a single go, as placing first in a match will automatically award 100 event points.

Tetris 99's 13th Maximus Cup event (and its attendant theme unlock) will take place from May 15, 2020 and last until May 18, 2020.

Actually finding a copy of Ring Fit Adventure is rather impossible, given how it found success following the spread of COVID-19 as a means to get exercise without leaving a home. However, there’s a way to at least experience a bit of its atmosphere. While people could be waiting for a Ring Fit Adventure restock, they can participate in a Tetris 99 event based on the game. It will be held from April 24-27, 2020.

The Tetris 99 Ring Fit Adventure event proceeds like every other weekend Maximus Cup held in the puzzle game so far. You’ll compete against 99 other players, as usual. Depending on your rank at the end of the match, you’ll receive event points. When you tally up 100 points, you get a Ring Fit Adventure theme that you could permanently use when playing Tetris 99. (You’ll also see this theme in full force when participating in the event that weekend.)

As far as Tetris 99 goes, the game has continually offered new themes based on other iconic Nintendo series. For example, the September 2019 and October 2019 Maximus Cups gave people a chance to earn Super Kirby Clash and Luigi’s Mansion 3 themes to use in-game. A Pokemon Sword and Shield Maximus Cup appeared in November 2019. 

When it comes to Ring Fit Adventure restocks, Nintendo hasn’t provided any solid dates or information about when to find one. However, checking on different unofficial sites can help. For example, turning to something like Brickseek would allow you to check and see if Target or Walmart has one in-stock.

Tetris 99 is available for the Nintendo Switch and requires Nintendo Switch Online to play Ring Fit Adventure is available for the Nintendo Switch and recently had a free Rhythm Game mode with multiple songs from other Nintendo games added to it in March 2020.
