Kurand has opened up pre-orders for a Tekken 30th anniversary sake set. It’ll come in a box depicting Mishima Kazuya and Kazama Jin fighting, as well as come with an original glass.

The sake set will cost 19,800 JPY ($137.85) and it only comes in a 720 ml bottle. Pre-orders will close on October 4, 2024 and then Kurand will start shipping out orders from late November 2024. As this is alcohol, people outside of Japan may experience difficulties importing or exporting this product. Something else to keep in mind is that Kurand will only produce 300 bottles of the sake. So if you really want this, you may want to put in an order as soon as you can.

The Tekken 30th anniversary sake (really a barley shochu) has a very deep flavor and fragrance as a nod to the long history of the series. The name of the drink  is Fuujinken, which translates to Wind God Fist. It’s a name of a move from Mishima Style Karate. Fuujinken uses barley from Miyazaki that’s been matured for over 30 years. Its age gives it a smooth taste.

Tekken started in 1994. Since then, it’s spawned numerous sequels, spin-off games, film adaptations, and more. As of 2023, the franchise has sold over 58 million copies worldwide. This makes it one of the best-selling fighting game franchises of all time.

The Tekken 30th anniversary sake, barley shochu Fuujinken, is available for pre-order on Kurand’s website. The latest game in the Tekken series, Tekken 8, is readily available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

Tekken Kazuya and Heihachi Game Dimension Figures Make a Good Pair

Bandai Namco has many figure lines, with some being more affordable than others. The Tekken Game Dimension Kazuya and Heihachi figures are two of them, both coming in at under $30 and, while they aren’t as involved as an SH Figuarts, they’re a fun decoration to put on a shelf.

First, I genuinely appreciate the packaging for the Kazuya and Heihachi Tekken Game Dimension figures and wish I could have left them in it for display purposes. They’re set up as such that they look really good next to each other. Instead of being flat in the boxes, they’re packed in poses that make it look like they’re facing off against one another. It’s a really fun touch, and I appreciate when companies do that in case someone does want to keep them sealed away. Another fun nod is the fact that the back seems to be teasing at least another two figures in the line, as there are two more locked character portraits. There is also room for two more after that, though those frames fade away and there are no locks. Though at this point, we already know Jin and King are part of the collection.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPLcz6qnPJc&ab_channel=BandaiNamcoToys%26CollectiblesAmerica

A good way to think of this Game Dimensions line is to compare them to the Bandai Anime Heroes one. There’s a little more to them, but they’re still rather basic. You get one extra pair of hands, yes. There are also effect parts for each ones to simulate attacks and a stand with the words “Round 1” or “Ready.” Over 20 points of articulation are present on each character as well. (The knees consist of two ts, for example, and However, there are no additional face plates.

The thing is that both the Kazuya and Heihachi figures are much easier to pose than, say, the Anime Heroes Bleach Ichigo and Renji ones I looked at in the past. Rather than unrestricted movement at ts, things clickinto place in a very satisfying way. It secures a pose, ensuring it is held exactly in the way you want it. This also means you can better tweak and adjust to get the correct positioning for displaying. To be honest, I preferred it to the articulation in the figmas or Sousai Shoujo Teien model kits I’ve built, since it felt hardier, more precise, and like I could still do a lot within its limitations.

The build quality extended to the hands too. It’s very easy to pop off Heihachi or Kazuya’s hands to replace them for a different pose. Also, the paint quality on them is better than I expected for a figure of this type. It made me less apprehensive about messing around with the character to adjust the poses. I will say that I preferred Kazuya due to the ease of movement around him. Heihachi is still fun, but his rubberized top can get a bit in the way of some actions. It’s definitely soft and the nature of the ts mean he will hold a pose just as well after being clicked into place, but it does get in the way of certain positions.

I was really pleased to see just how fun the Kazuya and Heihachi Tekken Game Dimension figures are. It’s always nice to see something coming in at under $50 that still looks good and poses well. Especially since the general quality feels and holds a lot better than Bandai Namco’s Anime Heroes collection.

The Tekken Game Dimension Kazuya and Heihachi figures are available now and tend to cost $26.99 each from places like Amazon. Tekken 8 will come to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on January 26, 2024, and an offline demo is available.

Jun Kazama Tekken 8

Jun Kazama in Tekken 8 is a playable character. Tekken Series Director Katsuhiro Harada confirmed the fact during a following the Tekken World Tour 2022 North America Regional Finals. Jun has been missing and presumed dead since her first appearance in Tekken 2. She showed up in other Tekken games, but only as a flashback or cameo. She was last playable in 2012's Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and 2013's Tekken Revolution, which are not considered "canon." Harada also confirmed that Jun never actually died, and only went missing. Exactly why she was gone all that time might be explained as part of Tekken 8's story.

The also saw Harada and Tekken Series Producer Michael Murray show off some early concept art of Jun Kazama in Tekken 8. Jun's design comes from artist Mari Shimazaki, who designed the main cast of Bayonetta, Josie Rizal and Kazumi Mishima from Tekken 7, and the cast of anime series Luck & Logic.

Besides the playability of Jun Kazama in Tekken 8, Harada and Murray also emphasized some other key points from the recent trailer aired at the 2022 Game Awards. The Heat System is designed to encourage "aggressive" play by enhancing characters' abilities and moves.

In a follow-up Tweet, Harada also said that Tekken 7 had ed the 10 million sales milestone, as well as suring over 54 million sales over the series' lifetime. He thanked fans for their over the years.

Jun's design comes from artist Mari Shimazaki, who designed the main cast of Bayonetta, Josie Rizal and Kazumi Mishima from Tekken 7, and the cast of anime series Luck & Logic. https://twitter.com/BNEesports/status/1602091664134221825 Besides the playability of Jun Kazama in Tekken 8, Harada and Murray also emphasized some other key points from the recent trailer aired at the 2022 Game Awards. Factors like environmental destruction, Rage Art super moves, and the three-dimensional "side-stepping" mechanics will continue to be important in the new game. The newer "Heat System" will be activated by executing certain moves, but also by other factors that will be revealed at a later date. The Heat System is designed to encourage "aggressive" play by enhancing characters' abilities and moves. In a follow-up Tweet, Harada also said that Tekken 7 had ed the 10 million sales milestone, as well as suring over 54 million sales over the series' lifetime. He thanked fans for their over the years. https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/1601849013069750273 Tekken 8 will launch on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X. It does not yet have a release date.

Tekken 8 Evo 2022

Bandai Namco made an appearance at the Evo 2022 competitive event this year, making a handful of important announcements. In addition to a few updates and adjustments for Tekken 7, the company may have also teased an  Tekken 8 at Evo 2022. While yet unconfirmed, the official Tekken has acknowledged the teaser and urged fans to "watch until the end".

The teaser appeared just after a series of updates for Tekken 7 and the announcement of the global finals dates. The update for Tekken 7 will release on August 17, 2022. The free update will reportedly include balance adjustments and new tactics. Furthermore, the Tekken World Tour 2022 Global Finals will be making its return in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on February 4 and 5, 2023.

At the end of the video, after a Tekken 7 title card, the ending scene of the original Tekken appears. After defeating his father in battle, Kazuya throws Heihachi off of a cliff and then smiles. Notably, this also mirrors the ending of Tekken 7. Suddenly, the video changes from the original polygonal graphics to a modern, high-definition version of Kazuya. Kazuya's left eye glows red as he smiles into the camera, with the words "Get Ready" appearing beside him.

You can check out the possible Tekken 8 Evo 2022 teaser in the video below (Starts at 1:38):

Harada's Bar Takahashi Meijin

Chief producer of the Tekken series Katsuhiro Harada released a new episode of his talk show, Harada's Bar. This week's guest was multimedia personality and former executive of Hudson Soft Takahashi Meijin. The two discussed inclusivity and diversity in the industry, societal scrutiny, and parents using games as a scapegoat in the past.

At around the 10:30 mark of the Harada's Bar video below, Meijin and Harada discussed the current climate of video games and the industry from a societal perspective. Both men mentioned how parents and society used games as a scapegoat for any problem. Meijin even joked about the blog he used to write, "You Blame Video Games For Everything."

[embed]https://youtu.be/u-FnnXba8Hw[/embed]

Harada said a current hot topic in the industry is inclusivity and diversity not only regarding in-game representation, but also regarding development staff. Specific to Harada, he said the subject of character gender ratio often comes up in his games. Meijin said this kind of scrutiny is a good thing for the industry. He explained that society wanting these standards in games is indicative that the industry matters to an important degree. Meijin elaborated that if society were not scrutinizing video games, it would mean no one cared about the industry.

Lastly, Harada brought up research done by a North American university that measured players' brain activity. By recording heat signatures in the brain, the research found that players were very mentally active in games where they were challenged. Harada said fighting games are great for this because the gameflow constantly stimulates the brain during matches with other players.

Harada's Bar releases new episodes weekly on its YouTube channel. Katsuhiro Harada has had guests ranging from esports players to the father of PlayStation.

Astro's Playroom Tekken

Players have discovered a Tekken reference tucked away in the world of the new PlayStation 5 title, Astro’s Playroom. Katsuhiro Harada, who has worked on the Tekken franchise for the last 26 years, retweeted a video of the reference. In the tweet, he mentions that he was a supervisor for the Astro’s Playroom cameo.

Astro’s Playroom is a title that is included free with every PlayStation 5. It comes pre-installed and is a way for PlayStation 5 owners to experience  some of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller’s features like its adaptive triggers, haptic , accelerometer, and gyroscope. Astro’s Playroom is meant to be a multi-hour game rather than a tech demo.

The reference itself depicts two small robots fighting one another. Atop their robot heads are the iconic hairdos of Kazuya and Heihachi from Tekken fame. They even execute moves that should be reminiscent of those characters to fans of the franchise. The entire encounter is being filmed by a robot in a blue hat. Astro’s Playrom contains multiple robot cameramen like this, and they are frequently paired with references to games like Knack, Beyond: Two Souls, Spyro, and Ridge Racer. There’s even a reference to Flower thrown in there.

Astro’s Playroom is available now on the PlayStation 5.

kotobukiya bishoujo alisa tekken

Since 2009, the Kotobukiya Bishoujo figures line has given people a chance to get 1/7th to 1/8th scale statues of characters from video game, comic, and horror series based on Shunya Yamashita art. Now, to better help people follow along with new releases and these figures’ roots, a dedicated website has launched.

The Kotobukiya Bishoujo site starts at the very beginning with the 2009 Black Widow figure. Back then, the line started out with Marvel characters like her, Rogue, and Scarlet Witch. 2010 added DC Comics characters, like Batgirl. 2012 brought with it video game heroines, like Tekken’s Alisa Bosconovitch, Asuka Kazama, and Christie Monteiro and Mass Effect’s Liara T’Soni. Later, in 2014, Street Fighter figures showed up. Most recently, the first Kotobukiya Bishoujo Remix figure was revealed to be the line’s first rendition of Hatsune Miku.

In addition to detailed pages going over the history of the series, new product announcements will be made here. People can also use the site as a resource to see how the Yamashita concept art ended up turning into a finished product.

The Bishoujo Remix Hatsune Miku 1/7th figure will take the stage in September 2020. Some of the other recent releases include a May 2020 rerelease of Supergirl and a gender-swapped version of Beetlejuice, which will launch in June 2020.

Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono and Tekken producer will always consider themselves eternal rivals—the Ryu and Ken, or Jin and Hwoarang—of fighting game makers. In a recent event, the two went at it in contest full of shenanigans.

Harada might come off as the more serious badass of the two, but even he can’t contain himself when he’s around Ono, as they begin the video talking about their respective series’ anniversaries… with high-pitched helium voices.

This event is part of Tekken’s 20th anniversary, hosted by Bandai Namco, where Harada will try his best to defeat Ono in a series of hilarious challenges that took place several years ago, where Ono won by a score of 7 to 6. This time, they challenge each other in contests like balancing on balls, Jenga with electrical massager pads at full power, giant rubber band pulling with their mouths, and toilet paper un-rolling.

Harada once again shows that not only his characters are tough, but the creator himself as he managed to kick a bat in half, while Ono ended up hurting himself, followed by a tantrum after defeat, to which Harada said “this guy’s always been like that.”

The rules seem pretty messed up as they both get away with cheating on several occasions, but the best example is when they eat sushi with blindfolds while trying not to get any with massive amounts of wasabi.

In the end, Ono ends up getting the bad one (after Harada cheated), and the staff member can be heard saying “we don’t have any water” after Ono asks for some in pain while on the floor. He responds by saying “Bannam [Bandai Namco] don’t even have any water?!”

Harada wins the Revenge Match challenge by a score of 4-3. Perhaps we’ll see the two going at it again for the tie-breaker sometime in the future. Either way, it’s always fun watching these two compete, whether it’s by making video games or scoffing down dangerous sushi.

Meet Peter Oehler, who, as part of a class on Interaction Design, decided  that it would be really cool to combine his two hobbies of playing the piano and Tekken. So he went out and used Arduino to hook his piano and a bunch of other items up together.

This then enabled him to hack up a playable version of Tekken using only his piano and ability to mash buttons in a whole new way. He’s even able to beat an online player using only his piano, as seen in his video. If you’re interested in shots of how the board looks (It turned out pretty spiffy!) you can check his site out here.

Whatever the case, it sure looks a hell lot easier to play Tekken on a piano than it does… Doom. I don’t even want to know how you’d get past anything more than the first stage playing Piano Doom

Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada’s former rival Tomonobu Itagaki recently talked about finally releasing Devil’s Third next year, and while Harada has had his hands full with Namco Bandai’s recent burst of F2P games, he also talked to 4Gamer about focusing more on his main job and working on unannounced projects.

During the interview, 4Gamer asks the Tekken developer to share a few words on what he has in mind going into the year 2014.

“This year, as part of being the leader in the development of multiple free-to-play titles, I was also involved in the efforts to change the structures of the console gaming industry with the first party group of SCE (Sony Computer Entertainment),” shares Harada. “I hope to keep this going into next year as well.”

Tekken is one of my life’s works, and while I can’t say much here, together with the titles we were going to announce this year, I’m also working on several other titles simultaneously with Tekken,” he continues. “From there, I’d like to announce at least two of those titles in 2014, and I feel that it’s something I must do.”

“From there, there are a few titles that we’ve been quietly working on, and some we’ve been thinking about working on, so the year 2014 looks like it’ll be a tough one,” says Harada. “Perhaps I’ll be asking readers on Twitter when I get stuck on ideas or hit a dead-end.”

“Actually, I’ve had to be part of way too many mysterious jobs and non-paying holiday gigs from requests like ‘please show up at this event!’ and ‘please make a surprise appearance in this video!’ even if they weren’t proper plans like those ‘let’s learn from the creator!’ type events,” says Harada.

“For the year 2014, I’d like to focus more on my main job, so please continue ing us… although first, I’ll be ing by New Year’s parties from other companies, and then I’ll seriously start on my main job!!”

Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada was taking to Twitter and discussing some odd things relating to a character that appears to have been rejected from a game he was involved in. When asked if changing the way the character was portrayed might get it featured, he noted that the rejection came “a while back” and showed off a sketch that was surprisingly well-drawn. It was a shot of a girl called Ganmi in… a school swimsuit.

People began clamoring for him to do something about it and asking who on Earth would have said no to putting a character like that in a game (do note, though, it’s never made explicit that this was even about Tekken in the first place).

Harada then issues a challenge—although, whether he’s ready for the ramifications of it or not is going to be fun to find out. If his post with the girl gets “about 1000 retweets” he says he’ll “go try and re-convince [the necessary staff],” although whether he’s serious, successful or about to pull one on us... well, we’ll find out if we hit the mark eh?
