Tekken 8 Director Katsuhiro Harada discussed the possibility of a Waffle House stage appearing in the game on social media, during which he brought up his attempts at communication with the restaurant’s owners and representatives regarding outreach about a licensing arrangement. He also suggested a replacement possibility called the “Hustle House.”

Harada actually first mentioned the possibility of a similar sort of stage inspired by the Waffle House in Tekken 8, but that featured a different name or possible distinctions if an agreement couldn’t be reached. He noted, “If we can't get that “House” name license, how about we call it “Hustle House” stage? Doesn't that make sense to everyone?”

Then, in a longer statement, Katsuhiro Harada noted he’d actually been attempting to the Waffle House owners in the hopes of getting the license to feature it as a stage in Tekken 8. He noted, “Over the past year or more, I've actually tried to make through several different channels. However, and this is purely my own speculation, I suspect that the lack of response may be due to the fact that the project I'm known for revolves around “fighting-themed video games.’”

Harada also explained that was his reasoning behind mentioning the Hustle House option. He noted, “That said, if—like I suggested earlier—using a different name or format is acceptable as long as the core message is maintained, then I would be willing to seriously reconsider and explore this again.”

Here is the full statement:

https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/1922122520406458818

In another comment on social media, Harada also described a Waffle House employee deflecting a thrown chair by a customer as “an excellent parry.”

Tekken 8 is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the next major update will add Fahkumram and a Pac-Man stage as DLC.

Tekken 7’s Fahkumram s Tekken 8 as DLC

At EVO Japan 2025, Bandai Namco revealed that Fahkumram, a character who first debuted in Tekken 7, would be the Summer 2025 DLC character for Tekken 8. Around the same time, paid and free Pac-Man themed cosmetics will launch in this Tekken entry. But before that, free Karate Kid: Legends items will show up alongside version 2.02 on June 3, 2025.

With the free items, it basically consists of cosmetics for us. We can get a Karate Kid: Legends Hoodie for characters to wear. The vision billboards will also show ments for the film. While those are free, a Tiger costume for Kuma and Calico costume for Panda will appear as paid Tekken Shop items around that time. (Free color scheme costumes will appear for both, however.) There will be a Dragunov costume 1 as well for cash.

Version 2.03 in Summer 2025 marks the debut of Battle Stage: Pac-Pixels, which is part of the Season 2 Character and Stage . Free Pac-Man Hit Effects will be a part of Fight Round 6, as will a 45th anniversary t-shirt cosmetic, Plushie Ghost Pack, and Pac-Man Ball for Tekken Ball. The paid Fight Round 6 will include a Pac-Man Head, a Ready themed emoji, and a Play themed emoji.

As for Fahkumram, his teaser for Tekken 8 is quite small. We see him dropped out of the sky onto the battlefield. After he frees himself from his bindings, he tells the unseen person in front of him that they are his next victim.

Here’s the full trailer for the Spring and Summer 2025 additions for Tekken 8, with the Karate Kid freebies coming up before the Pac-Man Pac-Pixels and Fahkumram DLC.

The last character DLC for Tekken 8 was Anna Williams. She debuted at the end of March 2025.

Lots of announcements came up at EVO Japan 2025 this year. We learned SNK and Good Smile Company are working on a Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves plush of Mai Shiranui. Overwatch 2 is getting Street Fighter character skins in May 2025 too.

Tekken 8 is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Atelier Yumia Drops Heihachi Puni Off a Cliff in Tekken 8 Teaser

Koei Tecmo announced a second Atelier Yumia crossover with a Bandai Namco game, and this time it involves Tekken 8. It will result in free DLC for the JRPG based on the fighter. To go along with it, there’s a teaser referencing a critical Heihachi moment in the Tekken series and art of Yumia with Reina from this entry’s artist Benitama.

First, here’s the Atelier Yumia Tekken 8 teaser trailer. It’s relatively short. It also doesn’t highlight the outfit she might get based on the series. Instead, we see her approach a cliff while carrying a Puni, the traditional slime enemy from the series, with Heihachi’s hair style and beard. After she looks over the edge, she tosses it off and looks knowingly at the camera.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyD40Yq7uP0

While Heihachi appears in the teaser, he isn’t confirmed for the crossover. However, Koei Tecmo did mention there will be cosmetic accessories, costumes, and skills based on the series. Since the official art shows Reina and Yumia together, it’s also possible Yumia will get a costume based on that Tekken newcomer.

Here’s that crossover teaser art from Benitama.

The other confirmed Bandai Namco crossover for the game involves Tales of Graces f Remastered. People will be able to dress Yumia in Asbel’s suit.

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land will come to the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam on March 21, 2025.

Anna Williams in Tekken 8

Bandai Namco has published a new Tekken 8 gameplay trailer showcasing the recurring series character Anna Williams. She will be the first Season 2 DLC character, and the company will formally add her to the roster in early April 2025.

The Tekken 8 iteration of Anna will have a more prominent usage of her rocket launcher "Lovely Tom," which previously only appeared during her super attack in the prequel Tekken 7. This will also distinguish her move set further from Nina Williams, who brings a pair of handguns with her.

The new trailer is available to watch with English subtitles up to 1080p on Bandai Namco Entertainment America's YouTube channel. As a side note, the Japanese-subtitled version of the same trailer on Tekken Channel has additional resolutions up to 4K.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6hYwWoOrDk

Anna will be the first Tekken 8 Season 2 DLC character appearing in the Spring season of 2025. Bandai Namco has revealed that it will add three more new characters each following season in Summer, Fall, and Winter. It will also have two new stages in the Summer and Winter seasons of 2025.

The seasonal character release will go in line with the first year. Throughout 2024, Bandai Namco gradually added Eddy Gordo in April, Lidia Sobieska in July, Heihachi Mishima in October, and Final Fantasy XVI's Clive Rosfield in December.

Tekken 8 is readily available worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Anna Williams will be formally available as the first Season 2 DLC character on April 4, 2025. Players who have purchased the new season will be entitled to early access on March 31, 2025, in American time zones or April 1, 2025, in Asian time zones.

Clive Tekken 8

Clive Rosfield was announced as the final DLC character for Tekken 8 Season 1. It’s kind of cool seeing the protagonist of Final Fantasy XVI going toe-to-toe with the likes of Jin Kazama. Even better, unlike fellow Final Fantasy guest character Noctis in Tekken 7, we’ll get to dress Clive up in the goofiest outfits possible, as with any other Tekken character.

There’s just one problem. He’s the wrong Final Fantasy character.

Image via Bandai Namco

This is not a new reaction. When Noctis was announced for Tekken 7, there was widespread confusion. Why is this character, best known for using a sword, appearing in a series based around unarmed martial arts? Why don’t they put him in Soulcalibur? It’s the same criticism for Clive, as he also uses a sword as his primary weapon, although, ittedly, there isn’t an imminent Soulcalibur game to direct him towards this time.

Noctis already felt like a weird addition in Tekken 7. His move list was considerably shorter than most of the roster, likely due to how limited the options from Final Fantasy XV were. His sword also gave him a wider range than most of the cast, offset only by his linearity. He was both less fun to play as and less fun to play against, and simply didn’t fit Tekken.

Clive in Tekken 8 isn’t as sword-heavy as Noctis based on the gameplay that’s been shown off. However, he does still appear to have the same issue of a limited moveset. As much as I enjoyed Final Fantasy XVI, it didn’t live up to the promise of a real-time action game as much as I would have liked because of how few moves Clive had available to. This already appears to be a problem for his Tekken moveset, as it draws heavily from the powers of the various Eikons. These look flashy and exciting in a trailer, but much like his home game, I can see their presence becoming repetitive and limited in the long run. Once again, there’s a feeling that he simply won’t fit well with the rest of the roster.

To counter the "sword " criticism, you might say, there is Yoshimitsu. He’s been in Tekken since day one, always cropping up on the roster brandishing his mystical katana. But that’s the thing. Yoshimitsu is the notorious weirdo of Tekken. He’s deliberately unconventional, a guy who not only brings a sword to a fist fight, but also becomes a human helicopter, throws out poison gas and arbitrarily kills himself. His whole deal is that he’s not normal and was designed to be part of this roster with that in mind.

If Tekken must have a Final Fantasy guest character, there are much more appropriate choices. The Monk class has been around since the original NES game, and they fight with their fists. Any monk would be a more ideal fit for a cast full of practitioners of karate, taekwondo and assorted wushu styles. Many prominent characters across the series have been part of this class too, such as Zell, the hyperactive hot dog lover from Final Fantasy VIII, or Sabin, Final Fantasy VI’s resident train suplexer. However, there is one Monk character who is more iconic than all of them: Tifa Lockhart.

In fact, she is arguably the most requested guest character by the Tekken community. Any cursory glance at discussions around potential guests for the series are often topped by two main requests: a Yakuza character and Tifa. Yakuza is often a more free-form request. While Kazama Kiryu is inevitably brought up, rumors that Ichiban Kasuga might be in the game were met with positive reaction. Goro Majima is also, unsurprisingly, another popular request. It helps that Yakuza’s brand of angry fighty men in increasingly absurd situations matches Tekken’s vibe so well that anyone fits.

Image via Square Enix

However, there are never requests that state they want "a Final Fantasy character". The requests are always specifically Tifa. This is why the presence of Clive has been met with anger at worst and confusion at best from the wider Tekken 8 community. Certainly, there are some who are happy with the choice and are willing to give Clive a chance, but overall, the reaction can be boiled down “we asked for Tifa though” and it’s hard to ignore that she would have been the better choice.

Tifa would be a perfect fit for Tekken. For a start, she has a fighting style that matches a fighting game in a more obvious way. While her martial arts style is officially undefined, her moves in Final Fantasy draw from a mixture of kickboxing and gymnastics. Tekken already has plenty of kickboxers in its history and the likes of Lili show off how well an acrobatic style fits. She wouldn’t be the first Tekken character to blend styles either. The Mishima style of karate is already a brutal deviation from the traditional style, after all, and it's the signature style of the whole franchise.

Image via Square Enix

Her move list feels like it could be filled with much more fitting options simply based on her home games. Her basic moves from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth alone could be broken down to fill out a good chunk of a notoriously large Tekken move list. Her basic combos (including those initiated from a dodge) already include a jab flurry, several roundhouse kicks, a lunging punch, a slide kick and an overhead flip kick. All standard for most Tekken kits.

But on top of that, most of her Abilities would help round out that list and still feel like natural martial arts moves instead of the flashy Eikon moves filling out Clive’s list. Unbridled Strength also gives her an automatic Heat Engager, which means Omnistrike and Rise and Fall could easily become her Heat-exclusive moves. In other words, she’s practically already built for a transition into Tekken 8. Throw in some Dissidia moves where possible and you’re all set.

On a personal level, Tifa has always been one of the more enjoyable characters to play as in any game she’s available. In the FF7 remakes, she’s always in my party when I can get away with it, simply because I love switching to her fast flurry style. She was also a favorite in Dissidia 012. I can guarantee that if she was in Tekken 8, I would be genuinely tempted away from Xiaoyu, my typical main. I can’t say I feel as easily tempted to play Clive.

Image via Bandai Namco

There is, of course, another major reason she would be the better addition. Final Fantasy VII and its cast are iconic. Tifa is a character that would get so many people excited, simply because of the fond feelings people have for her home game. It’s a level of fame and adoration Clive and Final Fantasy XVI can only dream of. However, I feel this may also be the reason she didn’t get in. After all, the choice of Clive or Tifa would come down to Square Enix, not Bandai Namco. Once you’ve figured that out, the decision to pick Clive makes sense from Square Enix’s perspective.

Either character could easily tempt some Final Fantasy players to play Tekken 8, but there’s a sense that most Tekken players are already aware of and have played Final Fantasy VII and its remakes. But for Clive, there could be a higher chance of getting those players to try out Final Fantasy XVI. Bandai Namco wins Final Fantasy fans over to try their game either way, but Square Enix only wins Tekken 8 fans over to their side with Clive. Which is almost certainly why things went the way they did.

Of course, there is an easy compromise to all of this. Simply let Clive channel his voice actor and let him wear Tifa’s outfit. It’s the only way.

Tekken 8 is out now for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI will be added as a standalone DLC character on December 20, 2024.

Tekken 8 Clive Rosfield

Bandai Namco revealed that Clive Rosfield from Final Fantasy XVI is the final DLC character for Season 1 of Tekken 8. The trailer debuted at The Game Awards 2024. Clive will be released early for Season holders on December 16, 2024 and the full release will be on December 20, 2024.

In the reveal trailer, we see Clive going up against Jin Kazama in a fiery stage similar to the Liquid Flame fight from Final Fantasy XVI. They share a special intro, with Jin's single devil wing reflected in Clive showing one of his Phoenix wings. Ifrit plays a part in his moveset, appearing as part of his Rage Art.

Clive isn't the first Final Fantasy character to make an appearance in Tekken. Tekken 7 featured Noctis from Final Fantasy XV as a playable DLC character. Speculation was high for a Final Fantasy character to appear in Tekken 8, with Tifa from Final Fantasy VII being the biggest fan request.

Clive Rosfield is the final character revealed for the Winter slot of Tekken 8 Season 1. Previous characters have included Eddy Gordo, Lidia Sobieska and Heihachi Mishima for Spring, Summer and Fall respectively.

Tekken 8 is out now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Clive Rosfield will release on December 16, 2024 for Season holders and December 20, 2024 for general release.

As you likely already know, Japanese games are the lifeblood of our site and there were quite a few of them released this year in 2024. As we wind down this year and prepare for the next, it is time to look at the best overall Japanese games released worldwide in 2024. From JRPGs to fighting games and more, these are the best Japanese games of 2024.

Best Japanese Games Released in 2024: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth 2f3153

While this list is generally in no particular order, if I had to pick one Japanese title to win above the others, it would be FFVII Rebirth. This second in the trilogy of JRPG remakes is spectacular with some of the best presentation and quality in the business. The story, combat, and world is phenomenal from start to its awkward finish. It is a near masterpiece if not for the controversial ending.

Tekken 8 might just be the best entry in the long-running fighting series. The singleplayer content is phenomenal with a surprisingly worthy story worth checking out. Of course, the roster of characters is just enough with the fast, fluid, and accurate fighting techniques we’ve come to expect from this series. If there is any fighting game worth playing this year, it’s this one.

Emio: The Smiling Man - Famicom Detective Club m4c6z

When it comes to visual novels and point-and-click adventures, this is the title everyone should play this year. The Nintendo Switch exclusive presents a horrifying and twisted mystery about a serial killer. There are some genuinely spooky moments and a payoff that is well worth it. If players stick around all the way through, they’ll find one of the most unique and masterful endings in gaming.

Sure, Metaphor: ReFantazio struggles quite a bit with writing and pacing in the second half, but the first half is incredible. Characters like Heismay rank up there with some of the best characters Atlus has ever made. In addition, this combat and style is arguably the best turn-based combat in the history of RPGs, making it a must-play experience this year.

tekken 8 genmaji temple

The official Tekken X (formerly known as Twitter) put out a message apologizing for the Playable Character Year 1 and Genmaji Temple DLC release method. In the tweet, Bandai Namco revealed two measures that it would take in response to player .

For starters, if you have the Playable Character Year 1 , you will not need to get the winter Battle Stage DLC as a separate purchase. This means that the Playable Character Year 1 now contains a Battle Stage DLC, along with 72-hour early access to DLC characters Eddy, Lidia, Heihachi, and one more. You’ll also be able to get the Kinjin avatar skin. As well, to acknowledge its past mistake and to make it up for the players, the Tekken team will offer 500 Tekken Coins. In order to get your coins, you will need to to Tekken 8 online between October 29 and November 26, 2024. As a note, 500 Tekken Coins is how much the Genmaji Temple DLC costs.

The reason why there was controversy over this is due to the prevalence of microtransactions in the game. Microtransactions have always been a controversial choice in video games, as some players see it as developers gutting people for money, as well as its similarities to real-world gambling. Tekken 8’s hefty price tag only adds to the ire. The fact that players who paid for the game on top of a Year 1 would have to pay a separate fee for a DLC stage was what caused such outrage. In the aftermath though, many players are commenting how surprised and happy they are at Bandai Namco listening to the players and trying to do better by them.

Tekken 8 is readily available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

Harada Explains Heihachi Mishima’s Illegitimate Children in Tekken

Now that Heihachi Mishima is about to debut as Tekken 8 DLC, Producer Katsuhiro Harada took to social media to discuss the character’s family line and illegitimate children and explain why there are so many. Essentially, it comes down to the Devil Gene and determining how it is connected to the Mishima family line.

Editor’s Note: There will be spoilers for Heihachi Mishima, his children and family, and Tekken 8 characters below. 1h52i

This all started after Harada retweeted a comic featuring Heihachi Mishima and Reina. When doing so, he commented on the relationship between the two and noted, “Heihachi has numerous illegitimate children.”

Harada then followed that statement with another comment that included extended commentary on the family line. In that tweet, he noted that there are many illegitimate children who would call Heihachi Mishima “dad,” aside from the ones we know about, as part of an investigation into Devil Gene inheritance.

https://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/1841869159719899276

We know that Heihachi had Kazuya with his wife Kazumi. In Tekken 6, Lars Alexandersson appeared. It turned out he is also Heihachi’s son. Then in Tekken 8, Reina was introduced and revealed to be his daughter. Based on the events of Tekken 7, we know that Kazumi carried the Devil Gene.

Tekken 8 is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Heihachi will appear as DLC on October 4, 2024.

Tekken 8 Angel Clover Watches Inspired by Jin, Kazuya

Bandai Namco announced a new collaboration with watchmaker Angel Clover to create watches inspired by Tekken 8 characters Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima. Pre-orders for the watches are now open and they are expected to release on August 23, 2024 in Japan.

Both watches cost 42,900 yen (or approximately $275.63.) The designs of the watches are similar, with the most notable difference being in the color of the background and the motifs used. For Jin’s watch, the background is black and the hand use in the marker for seconds is designed after the logo used in the Tekken series for the Devil Gene. Meanwhile, for Kazuya’s watch the background is purple, similar to his signature coat in Tekken 8, and the design for the part of the watch marking the seconds features the logo of G Corporation.

Jin Kazama’s watch includes the title of Lighting of Fate and the command for Laser Cannon. As for Kazuya Mishima, he is titled the Cold-Blooded Oppressor and his signature command is Abolishing Fist.
