On social media, Tekken 8 Producer Katsuhiro Harada discussed people’s crossover character suggestions and, during so, brought up the Tekken 7 DLC fighter Geese Howard from The King of Fighters. He went over how Geese wasn’t the only option considered, as well as noted the reaction from people when he was announced.

First, Harada discussed The King of Fighters Tekken 7 crossover character and potential for future ones when responding to someone who suggested Iori Yagami for Tekken 8. He noted that Yagami was also a possible choice. However, he picked Geese to go up against Heihachi Mishima.

Harada followed that up with a response to someone discussing Virtua Fighter’s Jacky Bryant ing Tekken 8. He said if there was a new installment, that would be a character he’d consider. However, in the comment to that he noted how some people had no idea who Geese was when he ended up being added to Tekken 7. 

All of these responses came up when Harada shared some informal Twitter polls gauging interest in Tekken characters. The first mentioned Anna, Eliza, Katarina, and Julia/Michelle, with the Julia/Michelle option winning. The second included Josie, Kazumi, Kunimitsu, and Lucky Chloe, with Lucky Chloe winning that vote.

Tekken 8 is available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Lidia is the next DLC character. Tekken 7 is on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bandai Namco General Manager and Tekken 7 Director Katsuhiro Harada brought up the possibility of a full Leroy Smith announcement video theme song on Twitter. Harada often answers fans' questions and discusses requests. When asked about the track from Leroy's debut trailer, he noted that it isn't actually a full song. This is why it hasn't appeared in-game or in a soundtrack yet. However, he also noted fan requests could make a full track appear.

As part of the announcements at Tekken World Tour 2022, Arika's involvement in both development of Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 came out. Bandai Namco Producer Michael Murray thanked Arika’s Akira Nishitani on stage at the keynote, citing Arika is working on both games. Arika then shared exact details about how it is assisting with development on its official site on February 5, 2023. [Thanks, Resetera!]

With Tekken 7, Arika is helping Bandai Namco with an update. Bandai Namco’s part will involve balancing issues. Arika will be tasked with squashing bugs and improvements to the game and its online multiplayer. With Tekken 8, it seems like Arika will work on online multiplayer elements and “the experience.”

There’s a new Tekken 7 update, as patch 5.10 and its official notes are here. Bandai Namco went over everything people can expect from the update. While there are some new items, like the new Tekken Character Set, most adjust or add features to the game. For example, there’s a Tekken 7 Streaming Mode for privacy purposes. There are also character selection quality of life adjustments.

The Tekken 7 Streaming Mode update for people playing online. Normally, playing a fighting game in versus can show both players’ Gamertag or PSN ID to people watching. This new mode removes that. While your information will still be shown, the person you are playing against’s will not. This applies to the Ranked Match, Player Match, and Quick Match options. That way, some random person you are fighting who can’t give consent won’t have their identity exposed.

• Addition of New Customisation Items: We added the Ver. 5.10 Character Set.
• Addition of Streaming Mode: We added Streaming Mode in Game Options. When Streaming Mode is switched on, the online ID/gamertag of the opponent on the VS screen and the battle screen in Ranked Match, Player Match, and Quick Match will change to the character name.
• Expanded Character Selection Features: Players can now their favorite character and costume combination and select it with one button. We also added a feature that re the last costume that was selected until the game is closed.
• Modified Tournament Settings: We made some modifications to the Tournament Settings in Game Options. When Tournament Settings are switched on, players will not be able to use the following character selection features in the Versus Battle: "Favorite" settings, Character costume selection, Saving of last costume selected
• Updated Connection Status Info Display: We made the following changes to the connection status info display: Connection status info display format updated, Text color in some parts of the display updated to show sync status, Info added on the processing load of the PCs used in the match

EVO Japan will return in Spring 2023 after a pandemic-induced hiatus. The event's general manager Rick Thiher has confirmed that EVO Japan 2023 will take place in Tokyo from late March to early April 2023. The group has also updated the Japanese event's official website and set up a new Japanese Twitter .

Four titles will feature prominently in EVO Japan 2023 as main tournaments. They will be Arc System Works' Guilty Gear Strive, SNK's The King of Fighters XV, Capcom's Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, and Bandai Namco's Tekken 7. The organizers will reveal more titles in the lineup and details for tournament registrations in Fall 2022.

EVO Japan is the first event in the Evolution Championship Series to appear outside of the US. The inaugural event launched in January 2018. The organizers managed to hold the event annually in 2019 and 2020, but it was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just like the original American event, developers of the featured games often publish new information in the middle of the tournaments. For example, the 2020 edition saw new playable character reveals for SoulCalibur VI and Samurai Shodown, as well as a new feature update for Tekken 7.

EVO Japan 2023 will take place physically at Tokyo Big Sight from March 31 to April 2, 2023.

Bandai Namco announced that sales for Tekken 7 have sured 9 million copies worldwide. The announcement included a special illustration of Kazuya Mishima standing atop a rock with 9 million carved beneath it. It was also revealed that the Tekken World Tour will return for the first time in three years. The Tekken World Tour will be held on June 24, 2022, in Florida. The tournament will see competitors from sixteen different regions participate, with winners advancing to regional and global finals. The global finals will be held sometime in early 2023.

In April 2021, Bandai Namco revealed that Tekken 7 had sold over 7 million copies worldwide. Previous sales milestones included Tekken 7 reaching 3 million copies sold worldwide in October 2018, and 6 million copies sold worldwide in September 2020. Since its initial release, the title has seen several DLC characters added to the game. This has included characters from other franchises such as Noctis from Final Fantasy XV. Entirely new characters like Lidia Sobieska have also been added to the roster.

In November 2021, Definitive and Originals Editions for Tekken 7 were revealed. While the Definitive Edition included absolutely everything released for the game, the Originals Edition came with a handful of fighters and added in New Frame Rate Data.

Characters from Virtua Fighter 5 will soon look more like folks from Tekken 7. Sega announced a launch date for the Tekken 7 Collaboration Pack. The add-on will launch on June 1, 2022. The announcement means we know exactly what people will get with this Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown DLC. There’s also a video showing its add-ons off.

The add-on was first announced back in March 2022. At the time, it only confirmed a Kazuya Mishima costume for Akira Yuki and a Heihachi Mishima one for Lau Chan. The trailer is more elaborate. It noted there will be 19 total costumes from Tekken 7 in Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown. In the video, people can see some of the other ones. For example, Goh Hinogami can dress as Bryan. Pai Chan will have a Lili costume, and Aoi Umenokoji could look like Asuka. Jacky Bryant will have a Paul outfit. El Blaze may dress like King.

Here’s the full video showing different Virtua Fighter 5 folks in “cosplay.” At the 1:20 mark, you can see how you can change the UI to look like Tekken 7’s. 20 Tekken 7 songs are included too. A sample of them comes up at the 1:35 point in the trailer. People can also get two new titles.

During the Virtua Fighter eSports Challenge Cup stream on March 20, 2022, Sega announced an crossover between Virtua Fighter 5 and Tekken 7. In the short trailer that played during the event, it showed Akira fighting as Kazuya and Lau fighting as Heihachi. The collaboration will not result in the actual Tekken characters appearing in the game. Rather, they will be skins for existing fighters.

Akira wearing Kazuya’s skin features the character’s signature heterochromia, with his left eye glowing red. While the trailer does not show the entire fight, it does end with Kazuya’s victory after Heihachi. Or, to be more precise, Akira’s victory over Lau. It is unknown if Akira and Lau are the only characters skins that will be available via the Tekken 7 crossover in Virtua Fighter 5.

Another game series that appeared in Virtua Fighter 5 is the Yakuza series. The pack came out in December 2021 and included 19 new outfits and 20 new music tracks. During the stream, it was mentioned that after the Yakuza crossover, the Virtua Fighter 5 team wanted to do another one with a fellow fighting game.

Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown is available on the PlayStation 4, and the Tekken 7 collaboration pack will come out in the near future. There is no news regarding a concrete release date or pricing yet.

Japanese fighting game publishers will gather to talk about the genre for the third time. They will hold the third edition of Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable stream on March 21, 2022.

The games' producers and key staff from Arc System Works, Arika, SNK, Capcom, Sega, and Bandai Namco will primarily discuss current situations in the fighting game and esports scenes. Each company will also reveal a secret collection related to the genre in this stream.

The Japanese publishers used prior editions of the roundtable streams to reveal new content related to their fighting games. At the previous stream in February 2021, Arc System Works revealed I-No as the last character in Guilty Gear Strive's launch roster. Arika announced a Nintendo Switch version of Fighting EX Layer, subtitled Another Dash. SNK confirmed Chizuru Kagura's inclusion in The King of Fighters XV and teased a Guilty Gear character in Samurai Shodown. It eventually revealed the latter to be Baiken in August 2021.

The Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable #3 stream will go live on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 15:00 JST (2 AM ET). It will be available on YouTube via Sega's Virtua Fighter official channel and Twitch on Arc System Works' channel.

That comes with the base game and eight DLC legacy fighters. The Legendary and Originals Editions are similar, but Legendary doesn't include Eliza, Fahkumram, Leroy, and Lidia.

As a reminder, Humble’s latest statement on sliders and charity splits did suggest things could change. When it reimplemented sliders at the site, it noted that “future development will include exploring different approaches to the sliders and how splits work, along with new ways to incorporate charity into other parts of the experience.”

Bandai Namco's Katsuhiro Harada announced that Tekken 7 sured 7 million copies sold worldwide. He also shared another update to the celebratory illustration on his Twitter .

The original illustration was made for the 3 million mark reached in October 2018. It was gradually expanded to include additional DLC characters when Tekken 7 reached the 4 and 5 million marks in July 2019 and February 2020, respectively. The 7 million milestone further updated this drawing by adding both new characters from Season 4, Kunimitsu and Lidia Sobieska.

The previous milestone reported for Tekken 7 was 6 million copies sold in September 2020. The 6 million milestone came with a new illustration that depicted the title characters conferencing remotely to reflect the real-life global lockdown measures caused by the pandemic.

The fourth season for Tekken 7 concluded with the additions of Kunimitsu and Lidia, as well as the Vermilion Gates and Island Paradise stages. When asked about the possibility of adding another new season , Harada answered that he doesn't know about the future. Bandai Namco originally intended to end content additions after Season 2, but the changing market situation led to the release of the third and fourth season es.

People have a better chance of seeing what went into bringing the new Tekken 7 DLC fighter Lidia Sobieska to life. Kuro-obi World shared a peek at motion capture sessions for the character. Tatsuya Naka performed her Karate moves. It was also the first time he provided motion capture for a project.

Here’s the video. First, people are able to see Naka perform both in the green-screen space. Then, it shows him in an actual fight. Some Lidia Tekken 7 footage is interspersed, so people can compare Naka’s real-world actions to Lidia’s virtual ones.

Tekken 7 Director Katsuhiro Harada also commented on the use of motion capture in the game after sharing the video. To be specific, he pointed out that the technology wasn’t applied to every character. As an example, he pointed to Mishima family like Heihachi and Kazuma as folks who didn’t have that technology applied to them.

Now, Director Katsuhiro Harada took to Twitter again to talk about its future. Namely, when asked about a possible Tekken 7 Season 5 , he said, “…I don’t know about the future.”

When it came to more add-ons, Harada reiterated a point about Tekken 7 DLC that’s come up before. Back in January 2021, he said on Bandai Namco’s 876TV that they had Season 1 prepared. He mentioned, “I was thinking of just ending it at Season 2.” He noted “ ” led to to the third and fourth season es. He mentioned that again here.
