In an interview with Fumihiko Yasuda, President of Team Ninja and Producer of Ninja Gaiden 4, he shared why PlatinumGames was chosen to work on this entry in what had been an otherwise dormant series. The interview also went into some detail about new characters that will appear in Ninja Gaiden 4 and some design decisions that have been made concerning it's combat. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

When asked why Team Ninja decided to collaborate with Platinum Games for Ninja Gaiden 4, Yasuda said this:

In recent years, we have produced some titles that were big challenges for us, namely Nioh 2 And Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. But over the years, we've also learned a lot by handling the IPs of other companies.. So the idea of developing Ninja Gaiden 4 with PlatinumGames, who has already produced excellent action games, was already quite attractive. That said, we are deeply involved in the development of the game. This includes Masakazu Hirayama, who was the Director of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

Yasuda went on to mention that while Team Ninja has shifted to creating more "historical RPGs," (the Nioh series and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty) that Ninja Gaiden 4 will allow the team to focus on "pure action."

When asked about the popularity of parrying and other evasive actions in action games and if Ninja Gaiden 4 will follow this trend, Yuji Nakao of PlatinumGames mentioned that while he couldn't say much yet, that there are certain attacks that will let you turn the tables on your opponent. He went on to say that the team is proud in the the unique combat system they've managed to produce for the title.

Ninja Gaiden 4 will come to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in Fall 2025.

PlayAsia announced that it is working with Koei Tecmo to release PS5 physical copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. The physical version of the new Ninja Gaiden 2 remaster will be available on March 27, 2025, and it will cost $49.99 before shipping.

As a reminder, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja announced the stealth launch of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black at the January 2025 Xbox Developer Direct. Unlike the PS3 release of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 included in the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection, this new title is a completely reworked remaster made with Unreal Engine 5. However, it still includes most of the new content added in Sigma 2, such as the appearances of Ayane, Momiji, and Rachel as additional playable characters.

The new remaster is immediately available on not only Xbox and PC platforms but also PlayStation 5. However, Team Ninja's official site for the game—including the Japanese version—noted that Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is "only available digitally."

Despite coming from Asia, the PS5 physical release will be a universal language build. It will have complete language with voiceovers in Japanese and English, as well as additional subtitles in French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified).

The new Unreal Engine 5-based remaster title Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is readily available digitally worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Playasia will release the PS5 physical copies of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black on March 27, 2025.

Koei Tecmo announced Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remaster of the classic Xbox 360 game developed by Team Ninja releasing today for Xbox Series X and PC as well as available via Game . The game was revealed during the latest Xbox Developer Direct 2025.

This re-release of the classic character action game was remastered using Unreal Engine 5. Alongside protagonist Ryu Hayabusa, the game also adds Ayane, Momiji, and Rachel as playable characters similarly to how they were added to the Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma PS3 version of the original.

This announcement came after the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4, a brand new title in the series featuring a new protagonist and being co-developed by PlatinumGames. As a reminder, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound was announced at The Game Awards 2025 and is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by The Game Kitchen, known for the Blasphemous series.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is readily available on Xbox Series X and PC. The game is also on Game . Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma is also available via the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct 2025 on January 23, 2025 kicked off with Ninja Gaiden 4, a new game in the series being developed by PlatinumGames and Team Ninja. The initial trailer confirmed that while Ninja Gaiden icon Ryu Hayabusa will be present, the hero this time around will be a new character named Yakumo from the Raven clan who is pitted against Ryu. It'll be out in Fall 2025, and it will be a part of Xbox Game .

In Ninja Gaiden 4, the Dark Dragon alive is confirmed to be alive, causing rain to fall on Tokyo and fiends to appear. Yakumo heads out to save Tokyo to save the day. However, Ryu is there with his own agenda. The two will end up facing off against each other during the story, as we see in one of the early segments during the presentation, with us learning more about what’s happening in Tokyo and with both clans along the way. Both characters will be playable, and each will have their own fighting style and moveset.

Numerous key staff from Koei Tecmo Games have teased reveals of new games in 2025. They made the teasers in the annual end-of-year messages compiled by 4Gamer. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The company already has several titles prepared for release in early 2025, such as Dynasty Warriors Origins, Atelier Yumia, and Venus Vacation Prism - Dead or Alive Xtreme. However, staff from most of the company's brand studios teased that there will be more than just those for the remainder of 2025.

The one who headlines the group is Yosuke Hayashi, who has become the leader of the newly established AAA Studio:

2025 ought to be a year where we can announce and release various titles, starting with a title from the AAA Studio which I have taken charge of! I want to make it an even more exciting year for games as an entertainment.

Tomohiko Sho, the head of Omega Force and the producer of Dynasty Warriors Origins, also teased more titles coming from the studio:

. . . And Omega Force in 2025 will not be just about [Dynasty Warriors Origins]. Kaiyodo has announced that it will produce and release a new Revoltech figure based on Kasumi from Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. This action figure will be part of the company's Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi line.

Even though Kasumi also appeared in the Dead or Alive series, this action figure will feature her appearance in the latest mainline Ninja Gaiden entry released as of 2024. Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge is an the 2012 PS3 and Xbox 360 title Ninja Gaiden 3. It appeared first on Wii U in late 2012, and Koei Tecmo then ported it back to the former two consoles in 2013. Razor's Edge is also included in Ninja Gaiden Master Collection, which has been available worldwide on the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC since 2021.

Kaiyodo has been on a roll with numerous reveals of figures based on characters from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden series. The company started the wave by revealing the Revoltech action figure of the series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa in May 2024. However, it also revealed a newer action figure modeled after his appearance in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge on the 2024 Christmas Day. In September 2024, the company also announced a Revoltech of Ayane from the same title.

Kaiyodo will announce the pre-order and release windows for its Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi action figure of Kasumi from Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge at a later time.

Koei Tecmo has updated the official website for Venus Vacation Prism – Dead or Alive Xtreme with details on the title's gameplay systems and minigames. The new romance-focused game will have more than just dates with the six appearing heroines.

The player will help manage a Venus Festival that also doubles as a popularity contest for the participants. The festival office will task the player to take pictures of the heroines in order to increase their public visibility and number of fans. They can take pictures anytime—including during conversations. They can also change the heroine's outfit, toggle environment lights, and apply additional filters like Vivid or Sepia to further improve the resulting photos.

When a heroine has gathered an ample number of fans, her relationship with the player may not be the only thing that improves. She can also gradually obtain new outfits as the player progresses further in the game. Most of the outfits will be available as in-game content unlockable with this method, as there are no gacha features or DLC—apart from the digital deluxe edition and pre-order bonuses.

In addition, Koei Tecmo has revealed some of the minigames that will be available in Venus Vacation Prism. One of them will have the player play a Hand Sumo in first-person view with one of the heroines. In another example, the player will get into a Water Splashing fight with two heroines. Splashing water on a heroine will eventually soak her outfit, and the event progression will depend on which heroine gets splashed on more.

Venus Vacation Prism will be available in not only Japan but also in Asia—with an English localization option dedicated to Southeast Asia. The game will mostly multiple subtitle options in Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified). However, those who purchase the Japanese PlayStation releases will only be able to play the game with Japanese subtitles.

Koei Tecmo has opened pre-orders for its figure based on Marie Rose's Steamy Venus skin in the Azur Lane crossover event with Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation. The company will release the figure in December 2025.

Koei Tecmo's own web store can only deliver the figures domestically inside Japan. However, the company is working with AmiAmi to release the product worldwide. The latter will exclusively ship the figures outside Japan.

The figure will be available in two editions. The regular edition has a price tag of 25,300 yen (~$161.52). There will also be a DX edition that costs more at 27,500 yen ($175.57). The latter will come with additional hair parts that let Marie Rose untie her twin tails.

Koei Tecmo has been working on the new figure throughout 2024. The company first announced the plan in January 2024. It then shared images of the unpainted prototype in July 2024. The figure is slated for release in December 2025, so the company still has around a year to finish the figure's mass production and ship it worldwide.

The Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation - Azur Lane crossover figure of Marie Rose in her Steamy Venus skin will be available in December 2025. Koei Tecmo will close the pre-order window for the figure on February 16, 2025.

In an interview with Yasunori Sakuda, the producer of Venus Vacation Prism: Dead Or Alive Xtreme, or VV Prism, he stated that there are no plans to release any DLC for the title. This is due to how VV Prism works and how difficult it would be to add new girls later on. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

Near the end of the interview, Game Watch asks whether or not there will be no girls or episodes available later as DLC. Sakuda replies that there won’t be due to how the system works. In Dead Or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation, you only had to pick one girl to get close to per run. However, Venus Vacation Prism: Dead Or Alive Xtreme focuses on asking “Under these circumstances, which girl do you want to get closer to?” and wanted players to enjoy how their relationship affects the story. This makes each scenario more involved, with lots of scenes where the girl you choose interacts with others.

Sakuda concluded that leaving the possibility of DLC open would require the team to remake the game. After Game Watch concedes that it sounds difficult, Sakuda says that it’s not impossible to add new scenarios or episodes. However, whether or not Koei Tecmo does that depends on the reception of the game.

Koei Tecmo has confirmed the full release date for Venus Vacation Prism - Dead or Alive Xtreme. The company will release the new dating simulator game in Japan and Asia on March 6, 2025. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

In addition, the company has also revealed Nanami as the sixth and last character in the game's roster. Nanami originally appeared in the Japanese version of the Venus Vacation free-to-play game in April 2021 and the Asian English version in April 2022, with Miyuri Shimabukuro providing her Japanese voiceovers. She will be available as a dateable heroine besides Misaki, Fiona, Elise, Tamaki, and Honoka in this game.

People who have pre-ordered Venus Vacation Prism will be able to get Plumeria hair ornaments for each character on release. Those who purchase the game early before March 19, 2025, can also get a set of outfits known as Qipao in the Japanese version and Cheongsam in the English version.

Koei Tecmo is also collaborating with the illustrator Yom to provide additional content for the game. Each of the six heroines will get a bonus outfit and story episode included in the Digital Deluxe Edition. The company will also release a physical Special Collection Box that contains a desk mat with Yom's illustrations and a dakimakura cover featuring Nanami.

Even though Venus Vacation Prism also has an English release, it appears to be geo-locked to select Asian countries and territories. Steam's database has indicated that the game will only be purchasable in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Koei Tecmo has revealed Honoka as the fifth of six heroines who will appear in Venus Vacation Prism - Dead or Alive Xtreme. Ai Nonaka will also continue to reprise her role as the character's Japanese voice actress.

Honoka is also the first confirmed heroine in Venus Vacation Prism who made her debut in a Dead or Alive fighting game, albeit from a later entry in the series. The specific entry was Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, the 2015 the original release in 2012.

The first four heroines revealed for Venus Vacation Prism were Misaki, Fiona, Elise, and Tamaki. Koei Tecmo confirmed Tamaki will be the fourth character in Venus Vacation Prism - Dead or Alive Xtreme. Players of the romance simulation game will be able to choose her as one of the six dateable heroines. Saori Onishi will also return to reprise her role as her Japanese voice actress role.

The fashion designer Tamaki made her debut in the original Japanese version of Venus Vacation in April 2018. She later ed the Asian English server roster in July 2019. Tamaki is arguably one of the title's most popular characters, as Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja actually added her to Dead or Alive 6 as a DLC character with an Aikido fighting style in March 2020.

Koei Tecmo has revealed Elise as the third of six heroines who will appear in Venus Vacation Prism - Dead or Alive Xtreme. Asami Seto will also return from the original Venus Vacation to provide Japanese voiceovers for the character.

Elise is one of the Venus Vacation original characters who debuted in the free-to-play game. She appeared first in the Japanese release in July 2021, and she also later ed the Asian English version's roster.

Koei Tecmo describes Elise as a former owner of another facility who comes for the player as a Life Coach. Her favorite color, food, and drink is Snow White, Stollen bread, and Jelly drink, respectively.

Koei Tecmo had previously confirmed the appearances of Misaki and Fiona in the romance adventure game. Including Elise, all three characters revealed for Prism so far made their debuts in the original Venus Vacation. The company will reveal three more heroines in the coming weeks.

Koei Tecmo has revealed Venus Vacation Prism – Dead or Alive Xtreme, a new romance adventure game featuring several of the heroines that also appear in the original Venus Vacation free-to-play game. The revelation of this new title also all but confirmed the direction the company is taking for the Dead or Alive series.

When Koei Tecmo first teased the new game’s announcement via its Japanese X , it used the term “New Venus Vacation Project.” The company eventually retained Dead or Alive Xtreme on the new game’s subtitle, but the fact remains that Venus Vacation has taken over the main spotlight as if to signify that this is the new direction Koei Tecmo will focus on.

The difference in attention Koei Tecmo gave between the original fighting game and the Xtreme spin-offs has been evident in recent years. While the 2012 prequel Dead or Alive 5 enjoyed long-time with numerous DLC and version updates for several years, the sequel did not live up to the company's expectations.

Koei Tecmo originally intended for the 2019 mainline entry Dead or Alive 6 to be featured in major tournaments, including EVO. However, the game not making its way to EVO 2019's title list was one of the major reasons for the company to cease ing the game after just around a year in 2020.

On the contrary, the 2017 free-to-play spin-off game Venus Vacation is still under active management and even continues receiving new characters as of 2024. Following the addition of Yukino in 2023, the company has since included more original characters in Shizuku, Reika, and Meg.

As a side note, Koei Tecmo has also confirmed a PC Steam release of Venus Vacation Prism with English subtitle . But if it’s anything like the original Venus Vacation, the game will most likely be region-locked to select countries and territories in Southeast and East Asia, including Japan. In addition, the company has set up an English official site for the title. However, it appears on the company’s Taiwanese website instead of the American or European sites.

Most of the long-time key staff are also no longer working at Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja. The likes of Tomonobu Itagaki, Hiroaki Matsui, and Katsunori Ehara had long left the group. Yohei Shimbori, the main person in charge of Dead or Alive 6, also departed Koei Tecmo in 2021.

The latest organizational structure of Team Ninja does not seem to be made to a possible new Dead or Alive fighting game either. The primary team under Fumihiko Yasuda had made action games like Nioh, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Rise of the Ronin, but it has also received requests for a new Ninja Gaiden game. And then we have Yasunori Sakuda’s team, which is in charge of not only the Venus Vacation games but also another free-to-play game in Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator.

There may still be a glimmer of hope for a new fighting game since Yosuke Hayashi still remains in the company as one of the last veteran of Team Ninja. However, Hayashi has since been promoted to vice president of Koei Tecmo Games, and his team has also been more focused on the development of major crossover titles like Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors.

It will take a lot of convincing for Yosuke Hayashi, Team Ninja, and Koei Tecmo to consider a new Dead or Alive fighting game following the sixth entry’s failure. The Xtreme spin-off series—or rather Venus Vacation now—has pretty much taken over the spotlight, so expect the company to focus more on this line for the foreseeable future.

Koei Tecmo has confirmed that Fiona will be the second heroine set to appear in Venus Vacation Prism - Dead or Alive Xtreme. The character's Japanese voice actress Kaede Hondo will also return to reprise her role.

Fiona is one of the original characters who debuted in Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation. She appeared first in the Japanese version in late 2018. Koei Tecmo also brought her to the Asian English server in January 2020.
