Back in March 2024, Mages and XSEED said we’d get to play through Corpse Party 2: Darkness Distortion in Fall 2024, but now it’s been delayed. The new release window for the latest entry in the horror series is 2025. However, XSEED did reveal the Ayame’s Mercy Collector’s Edition version of the game following the announcement.

First, here’s the Mages and Team GrisGris announcement regarding the delay. It stated it was done to ensure the overall quality of the title.

https://twitter.com/corpse5pb/status/1846461079792009327

XSEED also released a similar statement on social media that briefly discussed why Corpse Party 2: Darkness Distortion had been delayed. As a reminder, a small segment of the game was playable at events like Anime Expo 2024.

https://twitter.com/XSEEDGames/status/1846536723125178515

As for the Corpse Party 2 Ayame’s Mercy release, that collector’s edition is available directly through Marvelous. Nintendo Switch and PS4 versions of it are available for $79.99 each. In addition to a copy of the game, you get a metal case that looks like an Amare Est Vivere Medical Kit found in-game, an LED blue candle that looks like the ones at save points, an Evidence Kit with items resembling ones you discover while you play, a lenticular art card, and a 64-page art book.

Here's how that will look:

Corpse Party 2: Darkness Distortion will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam in 2025, following it being delayed out of its Fall 2024 launch window.

Corpse Party Blood Covered Repeated Fear

Corpse Party originally released for the PC in 1996 in Japan, long before its eventual worldwide release in 2016. The title became a cult classic among horror aficionados. It is largely viewed favorably among those who have taken the time to dive into what psychological scares the game has to offer. Now available on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms, Corpse Party Blood Covered: Repeated Fear is its latest reincarnation. While the visuals of the series haven’t aged spectacularly well, it remains as effective as ever.

Corpse Party Blood Covered: Repeated Fear offers sixteen extra chapters to its already robust narrative. It also comes with new side stories. Additionally, it features Japanese voice acting which helps enhance the experience. While the dialogue or translations haven’t improved since its original release, which can sometimes detract from the tension, the atmosphere is quick to suck the player back in to the story.

Corpse Party Blood Covered Repeated Fear Switch

Corpse Party begins during an after school ritual among class to ensure they'll be friends forever before Mayu moves away. It promptly transports them into another dimension after a sudden earthquake. The transition is odd and fast enough to make it work. This is complemented by quick scares thrown at the player among the mounting dread that comes whenever the oddly RPG-esque music plays while exploring the otherworldly Heavenly Host Elementary School.

The lack of distinct, or rather detailed, visuals serves Corpse Party well. There is a lot of room for the player to imagine the gruesome events that took place prior, with skeletons littered in the hallways and ghosts left to amorphous black shapes made of hair. Again, some of the dialogue in the game did sometimes suck me out of the experience. However, the tension that kept me invested. Finding notes left behind by former students of Heavenly Host kept me interested, and the plot doesn’t waste time in progressing the story.

It always feels as though something is at stake and that the player should progress with caution. Especially since you can lose characters at specific instances to sometimes frustrating or obtuse puzzles. Thankfully, you can save often (and frequently), then reload to prevent party from dying. But again, sometimes the solutions to puzzles aren’t all that clear. Which will definitely test the patience of those who aren’t accustomed to old school horror games.

Corpse Party Blood Covered Repeated Fear Switch

Since I played Corpse Party Blood Covered: Repeated Fear on the Nintendo Switch, the game was confined to a square in the centermost section of my screen while handheld and docked. The sides of the screen featured some sparse artwork, but it wasn’t distracting. It was similar to the console ports of Undertale, where artwork took up space to accommodate for the original resolution of the game. Character art ended up updated from its original 2016 worldwide release. Players can also go through logs to read any dialogue they might have skipped or to skim through anything that might contain any key information for clues.

All-in-all Corpse Party Blood Covered: Repeated Fear is a fun horror game, and will especially please those that have been looking to access it on more modern consoles. That said, the game is clearly reflective of the 1996 original, and some of its writing can be weird and sometimes puzzling in its execution. It does feature some graphic elements, like most horror titles do. So those looking for something on the more lighthearted end of things will want to look elsewhere. But if you’ve been thinking about trying something more “classic,” you’ll definitely want to give this game a chance.

Corpse Party Blood Covered: Repeated Fear is immediately available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Corpse Party is back, as XSEED revealed a new 2021 version of the horror game is heading to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. This is basically a newer version of the original game about students and a teacher trapped in Heavenly Host Elementary School. It will show up on October 20, 2021. The draw this time around, aside from being available on certain systems for the first time, is the inclusion of new side stories. This is the worldwide release of Corpse Party Blood Covered: Repeated Fear, which appeared on the Switch and PS4 in Japan in February 2021.

In Corpse Party, players follow a group of students and a homeroom teacher trapped in a haunted school after a ritual goes wrong. They are all split up, and it is up to the player to try and help characters and groups survive. The notable addition for this version of the game is that there are 16 Extra Chapters, all with Japanese voice acting for the first time. It builds on the updated 3DS release that appeared in Japan in 2015 and worldwide in 2016.

Of those Extra Chapters, two are new. One of them involves Ayumi and Yoshiki, who appear both in this installment and the follow-up Corpse Party: Blood Drive. The other Extra Chapter features two new heroines named Miku Shirayume and Ryoka Iwami.

Here's the Corpse Party Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC trailer.

Corpse Party will come to the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 20, 2021.
