Village Vanguard announced yet another collaboration with the Bandai Namco's Tales of JRPG series to release new merchandise based on characters from entries like Destiny, Abyss, and Arise. Pre-orders are now open and will close on April 13, 2025. The expected release date for the goods is mid-to-late May 2025. So far, everything is only confirmed for Japan, so someone would need to import the items to add them to their collection.

With the theme of "books", the new collaboration pairs up Tales of characters that are fond of reading with characters that aren't that comfortable with it. The games and characters featured in the new collaboration include Stan Aileron and Philia Philis from Tales of Destiny, Reid Hershel and Keele Zeibel from Tales of Eternia, Luke fon Fabre and Jade Curtiss from Tales of the Abyss, Rita and Raven from Tales of Vesperia, and Rinwell and Law from Tales of Arise.

Here are the new goods available in the latest Village Vanguard Tales of collaboration:

This is the fourth Tales of collaboration that the Japanese bookstore chain is holding. A previous collaboration announced in September 2024 featured various Tales of villain characters as plushes. Those were general ones and didn't feature an overarching theme like this latest collection of items.

The Village Vanguard Tales of merchandise items are now available to pre-order until April 13, 2025.

Bandai Namco released a video featuring the voice actors for the main character in each of the Tales of titles to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the video game series. The voice actors each shared a brief message about their experience working on the series.

The video features 20 voice actors that portrayed the main protagonists across 19 games in the long-standing action RPG series. The video is only available in Japanese with Japanese subtitles, and it is approximately 43:44 minutes long.

In addition, Tales of Legendia voice actor Ken’ichi Suzumura asked for a remake or a sequel to the title as part of his message in the video. As a reminder, Tales of Legendia is celebrating its 20th anniversary on 2025, and a new event to mark the occasion will appear in Japan.

The Tales series will appear in Last Cloudia once again as part of a collaboration event in the mobile game. It’ll take place on January 23, 2025, and it’ll introduce a new unit.

There’s virtually no information on the Tales collaboration in Last Cloudia right now. However, considering Tales of Graces f Remastered’s release, the new unit will likely be one of the main characters from that game. If it implements a Graces character, then it would fall between Asbel, Richard, or Sophie, who are the more iconic main characters from it.

The last time there was a Tales and Last Cloudia crossover event in the mobile game was in 2022. At the time, it featured Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia. Other Tales games who appeared include Luke and Stan. In particular, Stan is on the key visual announcing this 2025 Tales crossover, so he’ll likely reappear in the story and gacha.

Tales of Graces f Remastered is the enhanced port of the original Tales of Graces f game from 2010, which was also an enhanced port of Tales of Graces from 2009. It follows Asbel Lhant, the son of a lord, who meets a mysterious amnesiac girl named Sophie in a flower meadow. After a traumatizing event in his childhood, he leaves home to become a knight, which is where the main arc of the story begins.

Last Cloudia is available on mobile devices and Windows PC via Steam. The Tales collaboration event will start from January 23, 2025.

A special song has been released in honor of the Tales series’ 25th anniversary. The Tales series “Endless Journey” theme song was composed by Motoi Sakuraba, the series’ composer, for Tales of Festival 2020 and is performed by Tales of Dreamers. Since the event couldn’t go as planned, due to the pandemic, the Tales of Dream Project and 25th anniversary song have been announced.

Tales of Dreamers is a group made up of seven voice actors from the series. While the Tales series “Endless Journey” anniversary track is the first song, more are planned. The of the group are, from left to right, Tales of Destiny’s Leon (Hikaru Midorikawa), Tales of Symphonia’s Zelos (Masaya Onosaka) and Lloyd (Katsuyuki Konishi), Tales of the Abyss’ Luke (Chihiro Suzuki), Tales of Vespiria’s Yuri (Toriumi Kosuke), and Tales of Zestiria’s Sorey (Ryohei Kimura) and Mikleo (Ryota Osaka).

It is not yet possible to buy a copy of this Tales series “Endless Journey” song just yet. Bandai Namco’s Asobinotes site only lists it as Coming Soon for the moment.

As for the actual Tales of Festival 2020, it was supposed to be held on June 13-14, 2020. However, it will now be happening in March 2021.

We've known for a while that Tales of Arise is on the way, although whether or not the COVID-19 pandemic has affected its planned 2020 release is still unknown. We've also seen mobile games Tales of Crestoria hit with a slight delay, for obvious reasons. As many other events in, around, and outside of video games have been postponed and cancelled, so too has the Tales of Festival for this year. Instead, Bandai Namco will be having a more fun-oriented Tales of Festival 2020 stream later this month on June 14, 2020. Then, a more substantial event is set to run on March 7, 2021. The Tales of Festival 2020 stream is meant to be more of a small-scale, fun event for the fans. Bandai Namco is already ahead of the matter, saying folks shouldn't expect big news or announcements from the stream. Hosting the stream will be voice actors Katsuyuki Konishi and Masaya Onosaka, the talent behind Tales of Symphonia's Lloyd and Zelos, respectively. The stream, which already has a spot on YouTube counting down to go time, seems to be more of a chance for the Tales of fan community to get together and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series.

We haven't heard much about Tales of Arise since the 2019 Tokyo Game Show, but as of this writing Bandai Namco is advertising a 2020 release window for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC RPG.

There hasn’t been a new Mothership Tales of game for a few years now, but the series is well and alive as Bandai Namco announced that it has reached a new milestone of 20 million units sold worldwide.

To commemorate the occasion, Bandai Namco is celebrating with three campaigns for the series, starting with a Tales franchise sale on Steam that currently has Tales of Berseria and Tales of Symphonia discounted 75% and Tales of Zestiria for 50% the price.

The second campaign is a set of wallpaper and social media icons. The top image is available as a wallpaper over at the official website in resolutions of 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1920x1080, and 1920x1200.

Lastly, a third campaign involved tweeting out the hashtag  ♯テイルズオブメモリー (#Talesofmemory) to share your Tales of series memory for a chance to be one of three lucky winners to get a Tales of Festival 2019 pamphlet signed by the voice cast.

The Tales of series’ last Mothership title was Tales of Berseria which first released in Japan in August 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, followed by a PC release in January 2017. The series’ first entry was Tales of Phantasia which released in Japan for the Super Famicom in December 1995.

Bandai Namco announced today that their Tales series has shipped 16 million units of its games worldwide, since starting the franchise back in 1995 with Tales of Phantasia on Super Famicom.

The announcement was made through a corporate press release of a new Tales pachinko machine, called CR Tales of Destiny, which will launch in Japan on February 2016.

Every year, Namco Bandai holds a festival for Tales of fans. Tales of Festival 2014 is scheduled for May 31, 2014 and June 1, 2014 at the Yokohama Arena.

So a Slime, a Moogle and Lloyd Irving walk into a bar… okay, I got nothing. However, this month’s issue of V Jump does! Dragon Quest producer Yosuke Saito and Final Fantasy producer Shinji Hashimoto from Square Enix, along with Namco Bandai’s Tales of series producer Hideo Baba share some interesting quotes regarding possible collaboration ideas.

The three RPG developers got together in what was an unexpected gathering for V Jump. Here’s a snippet from their conversation about a possible collaboration between the three:

Baba (Tales of): “If you can do it, then by all means!”

Saito (Dragon Quest): “Shall we? We can start right away.”

Baba: “How about [Akira] Toriyama’s first Tales of game?”

Hashimoto: “If Toriyama is okay with it, then we’re okay with it. As long as we stay true to the world view, I think [Yuji] Horii would be okay with it, too.”

Hashimoto (Final Fantasy): “How about Kosuke Fujishima (Tales of character designer) draws for a Final Fantasy, and Tetsuya Nomura do Dragon Quest?”

Baba: “I’m pretty sure Fujishima would do it.”

At least once a year we see a surge of Tales trademarks like Tales of Favorite, Tales of Jin, and Tales of Zestoria. Unlike other game publishers, Namco Bandai seems to file a rash of trademarks for Tales of games, but only some end up being used like Tales of Link and Tales of Bibliotheca.

Why are there so many Tales trademarks? That's one of the questions Siliconera asked Tales producer Hideo Baba.

A short while back it was discovered that Namco Bandai ed a bunch of trademarks, such as Tales of Zestoria, Tales of Bibliotheca, et cetera. What's with all these funny names? Do you have fun with coming up all these?

Hideo Baba, producer: Well, the Tales development team and I are always thinking about new stories and themes for future games in the series. And whenever we do come up with something interesting, we're always thinking about, wouldn't it be great if we could call this game by a certain name, to go with its story and theme?

There is always the possibility that we may end up actually making a new Tales game by that title [we've ed the trademarks for], but before that, we need to first check if it is okay to use that title both in Western markets and in Japan.

So, there is a possibility there that of all these ideas we've come up with, one of them may end up being put into development, but at the moment, we're just checking that these names can be used. Nothing's been decided yet.

Is the current situation, where you'd go out and a bunch of trademarks in advance, prompted by past experiences like running into a scenario where you actually really wanted to call a Tales game by a certain title, but simply couldn't because the name was taken already?

Yes, that's exactly right.

Can you name a concrete example?

Actually, there were a lot of names I wanted to use but couldn't.

A lot of them?

Yes. So for instance, even this time around when we were ing the trademarks… there was one that we couldn't use because it was the name of a company in Canada. 

When checking for possible trademarks, we're checking for names that are ed not only in the video games category, but also those used for company names and such, all over the world. So, there were a lot of names we couldn't use. Please excuse me from giving you a specific example because a lot of these names we wanted to use are famous trademarks that I shouldn't really mention!

On the flipside, the funny thing [about ing all these trademarks in advance] is that, just before we released information about Tales of Xillia, some fans found out that we ed the trademark for a "Tales of Unitia". So they thought, "okay, the next game in the series must be called Tales of Unitia!"

At the time I really wanted to spill the beans on Xillia, because what they thought was going to be called Unitia, was really meant to be called Xillia. So, there's a really fun side to all of this, too.

Namco Bandai is cooking something new in the smartphone division and it's tied to the Tales series. Jpop group Do As Infinity leaked the news in the description for their 15th anniversary album.

The description mentions one of the new songs on the CD is a theme song for a new Tales of smartphone app. Service for this title will begin in 2014.

Famitsu shared concept art for the Next Tales of project, which will be unveiled on June 2nd during the Tales Festival. Series producer Hideo Baba said the Tales game is a mothership title and will have a more modern style.

He wasn't kidding. The Next Tales of title has giant cities and futuristic trains. The visual design almost feels like Final Fantasy or Lost Odyssey instead of a traditional anime inspired Tales game. Baba says the Next Tales of game will still play like other games in the series.

"Are you prepared to destroy the world for the sake of a girl," Baba says is a key phrase for the game's story and gameplay systems.
