A PC release of Red Dead Redemption may have been teased, thanks to an unexpected source. This game’s PlayStation Store listing briefly displayed some extra text mentioning a PC version of the title. [Thanks, @Wario64!]

The change to the Red Dead Redemption listing stated that the game was “now on PC for the first time ever” despite there being no official announcement of this release. This is also notable for being on PSN, despite this not being a PC storefront, and because the PS4 version of the game has been out for almost a year.

While the description was similar to the standard PSN listing for Red Dead Redemption, there were mentions of PC-specific features. These included increased options for greater resolutions and framerates, alternate display options and spatial surround sound. Screenshots have been circulating on social media after the description was first noticed, although this new description has since been reverted back to the original from 2023.

A PC release is highly anticipated for Red Dead Redemption. Despite the game’s critical and commercial success since its initial release in 2010, the game has remained a console exclusive. The game originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with a re-release in 2023 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Its sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, did release for Steam and the now-defunct Stadia streaming service.

Red Dead Redemption is out now for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. A PC version may be in the works.

The Outer Worlds

Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds may be getting an updated edition for current-generation consoles and PC. Taiwan's Entertainment Software Rating Information site classified a new version of the game, apparently titled The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition. "Spacer's Choice" refers to a brand owned by one of the ten corporations that own and rule the Halcyon colony, the setting of The Outer Worlds. [Thanks, VGC!] The apparent reveal mirrors Korean ratings spotted by Gematsu in August 2022.

Check out a screenshot of the ratings info as seen on the site.

outer worlds

The rating, associated with Take-Two Asia, lists The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Alongside it is the original release, dated October 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Both editions are rated "R" for Violence, Drugs, and Inappropriate Language. Take-Two itself has not officially announced or confirmed the existence of the update. If true, this edition could feature graphical or performance updates or add the existing DLC content to the package.

The Outer Worlds is an open-world RPG in the vein of Fallout: New Vegas. It takes place in Halcyon, a star system founded as a completely company-owned planetary colony. Players control a colonist newly awakened after spending too many years in cold sleep and explore a colony wracked by generations of unchecked corporate exploitation. They can work for multiple factions and meet companions as they work to solve the mystery behind a series of crises threatening Halcyon's future.

The Outer Worlds is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A sequel is in development.

Next-Gen Game Price Increase

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, suggested that consumers are “ready” for the next-gen game price to increase to $69.99, as NBA 2K21 will cost exactly that. This remark was made during the March 2021 Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference after Zelnick was asked for his views on the public’s reaction to the game’s price increase. For context, the usual launch price for most 2K titles over the last two generations of consoles was $59.99. [Thanks, Video Game Chronicle!]

Here is Zelnick’s exact quote from the presentation, which VGC transcribed:

We announced a $70 price point for NBA 2K21, our view was that we’re offering an array of extraordinary experiences, lots of replayability, and the last time there was a frontline price increase in the US was 2005, 2006, so we think consumers were ready for it.

Take-Two Interactive owns the Rockstar Games and 2K publishing labels, but Zelnick didn’t explicitly state what consumers can expect in of game prices in the future. Instead, he said that announcements would be made on a “title-by-title basis.” He acknowledged that the feeling of being overcharged can ruin an experience.

When NBA 2K21’s next-gen price increase was first announced in August of 2020, Zelnick claimed that the price was justified due to the value Take-Two and next-generation consoles offer to consumers. NBA 2K21 is notable because it was the first next-generation title to have the $69.99 price point attached to it. The same game is also available for $59.99 on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

NBA 2K21 isn’t the only next-generation title selling at this price. A few PS5 games released at $69.99.

This $59.99 price point is the standard retail price in the United States for most video games released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch. This price was also a $10 increase from the previous generation’s new game price point.
