Takara Tomy will release Tomica Tunes toys featuring Sanrio characters in miniature cars. They’ll come out in late May 2025.

Each Sanrio Tomica Tunes car will cost 1320 JPY ($8.75). You’ll have to get them in a blind box, and Takara Tomy warns that even if you purchase an entire full box of them, you might not be able to collect them all. In total, there are seven variations of the toys: Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, Pochacco, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, and Kuromi. The seventh one is a secret.

Takara Tomy made the mascots using die casting techniques, and they’ve personalized their car to really match with their general aesthetic. According to the Takara Tomy website, the toy tells a very positive and optimistic story. The mascots look scared because they’re lost and unsure of where to go. However, because they never stop driving, they’ll reach their goal in time.

Takara Tomy has released Sanrio toys multiple times in the past. Usually, these ones appear in gachapon machines, though. Some examples include miniature figures of the Sanrio mascots looking like sushi, figures of the mascots hugging even smaller versions of themselves, and figures of them lying down on their stomachs and sleeping.

The Sanrio Tomica Tunes toys will appear in Japan in late May 2025.

The Monster Hunter - Zoids crossover toys featuring Gatling Fox Mizutsune and Knuckle Kong Rajang are now available for pre-order. After teasing the two products on separate days, Capcom and Takara Tomy have opened pre-orders for both toys on their respective web stores. Both companies will formally release the products in October 2025.

Takara Tomy had listed the two new toys under the Synergenex brand, which has mostly comprised pre-built action figures for crossover projects like The Amazing Spider-Man with Zoids and Macross 7 with Transformers. However, the new listings for the Mizutsune and Rajang crossover Zoids confirm that they will appear as model kits in a similar fashion to the Sonic Bird Rathalos and the Magnamalo-inspired Beast Liger Sinister Armor that came out in 2024.

The owner must first assemble the parts to complete the Zoids' skeletons. After that, they can complete the kits by placing their outer armor parts. Each kit will also come with a 1/35 scale pilot figure. Once completed, the owner can also insert a AAA battery to make the Zoids walk on their own.

Both kits will be available separately with the same price tag of 6,600 yen (~$44.75). But even though e-Capcom and Takara Tomy Mall have international shipping widgets in WorldShopping and Buyee, respectively, both Japanese web stores still block the widgets from making these products shippable outside Japan. People residing outside the country can still order both kits from other websites like AmiAmi, Hobby Search, and HobbyLink Japan.

Takara Tomy has revealed a new Monster Hunter - Zoids crossover toy, which will feature a fusion between Rajang and Knuckle Kong. The company will open pre-orders for the new toy on March 6, 2025.

Just the day before, on March 3, 2025, Takara Tomy revealed a crossover from the same series that would fuse Mizutsune with Gatling Fox. Despite having a staggered reveal, the company confirmed that the newly revealed Rajang - Knuckle Kong fusion will appear as a pair to the former.

Releasing the crossover toys in pairs has been a thing ever since the first wave in 2024. Back then, Takara Tomy simultaneously released two crossover toys featuring the Beast Liger with the Magnamalo-inspired Sinister Armor and the Sonic Bird with Rathalos Armor.

However, there may be more differences between the first and second waves. The Beast Liger - Magnamalo and Sonic Bird - Rathalos fusions appeared as regular Zoids plastic model kits, while the newer Mizutsune - Gatling Fox and Rajang - Knuckle Kong toys are confirmed to be part of the Synergenex series, which mostly consists of pre-built action figures.

Takara Tomy has revealed a new crossover toy between Monster Hunter and Zoids, and it will feature Mizutsune and Gatling Fox from the respective franchises. The company will open pre-orders for the new toy on March 6, 2025.

The new product will continue the collaboration between Capcom and Takara Tomy's franchises that launched in 2024. However, while the first wave featured plastic model kits that the owner must assemble first, this product will appear under the Synergenex series, which usually consists of pre-built action figures.

This toy will feature a Gatling Fox donned with an armor design that resembles Mizutsune, one of the flagship monsters of Monster Hunter Generations, which is originally known in the Japanese version as Tamamitsune.

This is not the first time Takara Tomy has featured the Gatling Fox in a crossover product, though. In 2023, the company revealed a special Gatling Fox model kit designed after the Hololive Vtuber, Shirakami Fubuki. This kit was exclusively available for pre-orders at the Great Zoids 40th Anniversary Exhibition in the Tokyo Dome City in October 2023.

Takara Tomy revealed a new Zoids Advanced Zi movable toy featuring the hermit crab Zoids Sea Panther. The toy will have the code AZ-10, and it will be available in late September 2025 with an MSRP of 6,050 yen (~$39.45).

The company opened pre-orders for the new Zoids Sea Panther toy on its own Takara Tomy Mall website, but it does not overseas shipping despite having a Buyee widget. People who want to purchase the toy outside Japan can instead head to sites like AmiAmi and Hobby Link Japan, which also offer the toy at a discounted price.

This hermit crab toy will have a motor powerable by an N battery. Once attached and powered on, the toy will be able to move forward on its own while rotating its side cannon and fans. The owner will also be able to manually move the claws and armaments while replacing some of the parts with optional sensors.

Takara Tomy has been frequently revealing new Zoids toys in 2025. Shortly after the 2025 New Year's Day, the company revealed the RMZ-007 Trinity Liger model. Pre-orders for this product have since been made available, with its release window set in August 2025.

Takara Tomy opened pre-orders for the new Monster Hunter - Transformers crossover action figure of the Silver Rathalos Prime. After initially revealing the product a week prior, the company has now let people place orders with an MSRP of 7,150 yen (~$46.50) ahead of its release in September 2025.

This new action figure takes inspiration from Optimus Prime and Silver Rathalos, the latter of which is the rare subspecies of Rathalos that also appeared in the original Monster Hunter games. However, it will mostly be a recolor of the original red Rathalos Prime, which is slated to appear earlier in July 2025. The Silver Rathalos Prime action figure will also come with a similar but differently colored set of a sword and a shield that can combine into a new weapon.

Takara Tomy originally put the action figure up for orders on its own Takara Tomy Mall website. But even though the site has a Buyee widget, the company does not make the product eligible for overseas shipping. People residing outside Japan can alternatively place orders on sites like AmiAmi, Hobby Search, and Hobby Link Japan with discounted prices.

Takara Tomy has revealed a new Synergenex action figure based on a crossover between Macross 7 and Transformers at T-Spark Zone 2025. The new unit will be named Basara Prime—a combination of the protagonist names Basara Nekki and Optimus Prime. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

The company is also showcasing an unpainted prototype of the crossover toy at the event. It shows how the toy will feature a fusion between Optimus Prime and Basara's VF-19 Excalibur Custom "Fire Valkyrie." The unit will also have a properly scaled guitar with a shoulder strap.

This crossover action figure will appear to celebrate the anniversaries of both Macross 7 and Transformers. When Takara Tomy revealed the Synergenex brand in 2024, Transformers had its 40th anniversary from the first toy line released in 1984. Macross 7 also had its 30th anniversary since the first TV episode aired in 1994.

Basara Prime is not the only crossover unit Takara Tomy revealed at the event. The company also announced a new version of the Transformers - Monster Hunter crossover unit Rathalos Prime. Takara Tomy and Capcom previously revealed at TGS 2024 that they would release the original Rathalos Prime action figure worldwide in late July 2025.

The Basara Prime Synergenex crossover action figure will be available in the 2025-2026 Winter season. An unpainted prototype is on display at T-Spark Zone 2025, which is held on the fourth floor of Akiba Cultures Zone until January 19, 2025.

Takara Tomy will release figures of Sanrio mascots that look like they're relaxing while asleep. These will appear in gachapon machines, and it’ll cost 300 JPY ($1.90) per attempt. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

There are five variations of the asleep Sanrio mascots. As one might imagine, you can get mascots of the usual suspects when it comes to Sanrio toys. You have a chance of getting Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, and Pompompurin. These figures look like they’re lying down on their stomach, with one cheek looking rounder because of the way they’re sleeping. All of them are fast asleep. Even Kuromi looks a lot softer than usual. Kuromi and My Melody are opening their mouths a little, while Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin have a cat-like smile. Hello Kitty doesn’t have a mouth at all.

Takara Tomy often releases now gachapon toys based on Sanrio mascots. These toys are usually only available via gachapon. Some previous designs from Takara Tomy include ones of the mascots hugging a plush version of themselves, ones of the mascots looking like sushi, and ones of the mascots running late for school. All of these gachapon machines cost 300 JPY per attempt.

The asleep Sanrio mascots will appear in Takara Tomy gachapon machines in Japan some time in mid-January 2025.

A new line of Sanrio gachapon toys features the mascots running late while holding bread in their mouth. The items will appear in early December 2024, and you’ll need to spend 300 JPY ($2) per spin. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

There are four variations to collect: Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, and My Melody. All of them are doing the classic anime trope of a student running late for school while they’re holding a slice of bread in their mouth to serve as their breakfast. Hello Kitty and My Melody look like they’re genuinely worried about being late for school. Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin, on the other hand, look the same as usual. They do not seem to care.

Takara Tomy is a frequent collaborator with Sanrio when it comes to making toys. For the 50th anniversary of Hello Kitty, it opened up pre-orders for a special commemorative version of Licca-chan, which is the Barbie of Japan. It also made toys for a line of McDonald’s Happy Meals back in April 2024. Even more recently, in November 2024, it released gachapon toys of mascots holding and cuddling little plushie versions of themselves.

The “running late” series of Sanrio mascots will appear in gachapon machines in Japan some time soon.

BellFine and Takara Tomy announced a new My Hero Academia figure of villain Himiko Toga, and it is designed to look like a 2D drawing. It will debut in Japan in August 2025 and cost 20,350円. It is also already showing up at worldwide retailers, with AmiAmi listing it for about $115.10 in August 2025, Entertainment Earth selling it with free shipping for $149.99 in November 2025, and Crunchyroll saying it will be out in January 2026 for $164.99 with free shipping.

The idea behind the Himiko Toga 2D figure is that no matter which angle you look at it, it will look like a 2D drawing instead of a typical 3D figure. She’s wearing her typical villain outfit and is armed, ready to attack. She’s also smiling, as usual. It’s a 1/8 scale figure, so it will be a bit bigger than usual and stand at about 220mm (~8 inches).

The character is one of the most popular in My Hero Academia. In the latest World Best Hero Top 100 Ranking worldwide vote, she came in 13th place in the Overall poll considering every vote. She’s often picked to be turned into a figure.

The My Hero Academia Himiko Toga 2D figure will launch in Japan in August 2025, with worldwide releases following. The manga is handled by Viz Media outside Japan, while the anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.

Takara Tomy will release a Pokemon gacha machine on November 23, 2024. It will cost 6050 JPY, which converts to around $39.10. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

The gacha machine looks like a miniature gumball machine, in which the sphere at the top displaying all the prizes resembles a Poke Ball. When you put in a special coin, you can turn the handle and get a prize. The Pokemon gacha machine will come with Stand Pop toys that you can put into it, but you can also put in Moncolle MS series toys. In total, you have six capsules to work with.

While it can double as a collector’s item, it seems from promotional images that Takara Tomy intends this Pokemon gacha machine to be a party item. You could pull it out for a birthday or Pokemon marathon, and use this machine to offer people party favors. There’s also nothing stopping you from putting other items into the capsules, meaning you could use it for other properties.

This isn’t the first time that Takara Tomy released some unique merchandise for the Pokemon series. In 2023, it released a giant Clodsire plush that comes with Paldea Woopers. Then, earlier in 2024, it released a yo-yo ice cream maker. This toy works by putting ingredients for ice cream into the Poke Ball and then playing with it like a yo-yo for a few minutes.

The latest mainline entry in the Pokemon series, Scarlet and Violet, is readily available on the Nintendo Switch.

Takara Tomy will release a soft lamp in the shape of the Pokemon Rowlet. It’ll come out on November 23, 2024 and cost 3300 JPY ($21.30).

Before you can use it, you will need to insert two AAA alkaline batteries, which are not included with the product. There are two different modes: light mode and squish mode. In light mode, the Rowlet lamp will remain lit for thirty minutes. You can tap it to adjust the brightness and there are three levels to set it at.

Squish mode will adjust the brightness based on when you’re actively squishing it, and it’ll become dimmer after you remove your hand. If you don’t squish it for a little while, the lamp will start flickering to try and get your attention. If you want an actual light source, you should keep the lamp in light mode. Squish mode is more if you want a cute toy to distract and heal you while working or studying.

This Rowlet is part of the Pokemon Peaceful Place collection. Pokemon Peaceful Place, or PokePeace, is a series in which cute Pokemon all live with their humans in the same house. A PokePeace pop-up shop is available in Japan until November 28, 2024, offering items like cushions and towels and keyholders. Other soft lamps available as part of this collection are Pikachu and Piplup.

The latest entry in the Pokemon franchise, Scarlet and Violet, is readily available on the Nintendo Switch.

Virtual pets are, by their very nature, a very hands-off experience. You typically can’t actually touch or interact with one. In the case of a Tamagotchi, for example, it comes down to pushing buttons. Well, back in 2021, Takara Tomy started releasing the Punirunes virtual pet in Japan, and now Spin Master picked them up for a worldwide release. The “game changer” here is a fourth button that is designed to make it feel like are actually touching the squishy, slime-based pet. It… works way better than I expected.

Punirunes works much in the same way a Tamagotchi does, so for the most part the virtual pet should feel familiar. You need to feed it, pet it, play with it, and clean up after it to ensure it stays alive and doesn’t melt away. Many of these actions are kicked off by navigating the interface through the three buttons on the front of the unit, guiding the character through its three stages of life. Depending on your care, different evolutions appear.

The difference here is tied to the most important part of the interface, a joystick inside of the unit. When you start playing, you select a skin color for your hand. Pretty much every element of the character’s care then also involves “touching” it by pressing or moving the joystick with what is basically a squishy thumbpad on top. Want to make it happy? Place your finger inside. The sensor reads it and shows it on-screen. Rub the joystick. It’s happy!

Other actions are similarly tied to such movements, and as a result create a virtual pet experience that feels like you’re “actually interacting” with the character. Feeding it the default gummy bear? You need to press down on it with your finger to put it in front of your friend. Want to make different food? Buy some, use the orbs you collect by playing, and actually stir the pot with your finger. Is the room dusty? The Punirunes folks are apparently sticky, so move them around the room by shoving them around. Then, select a bath and rub their head to clean off the dust. The only major action that doesn’t involve touching is cleaning up poop, which is appreciated!

As you’d expect, part of earning money for in-game cosmetics or food is tied to minigames. What surprised me was the range of offerings in Punirunes, as there are more options than in a virtual pet like a Tamagotchi. These rely on the interior joystick to play. In one, you pound mochi as quickly as possible to create a snack. Another is like “whack-a-mole,” though you attempt to only hit the soft Punirunes character and not one with a spiky head. There is a platformer, which involves holding down on the joystick and left or right to jump while avoiding enemies. A dance game appears, as does one about collecting bubbles underwater. You also can try and help a character get items in a grabbing machine.

The quality of these varies. I really appreciated the mochi and platformer more than I expected. The input sensitivity for the dancing minigame kept it from being a top tier choice. But really, the only “loser” feels like the swimming one, as it can be finicky to move around properly. But as a plus, the screen, color choices, and backlight are so vibrant that everything is easy to see.

Not so easy to photograph, however. See what I mean?

I do think there are two concerns with this type of toy that don’t necessarily come up with a Tamagotchi or other virtual pets. The first involves the touching mechanic. The interior orb does feel a bit tacky, at least initially, so you want to make sure your hands are clean when playing. I could also see that as being a dust magnet, so keeping the area covered when not in use could be wise. 

Also, unlike Tamagotchis, I didn’t really notice any alerts. The screen goes dark quickly too. As such, it can be really easy to step away for a few hours or maybe even forget to check in, then you discover your character is in dire straights. I didn’t have any melt on me in this way, probably because I was setting timers for myself, but it might be upsetting to lose due to not hearing any chimes reminding you to come back. 

I really appreciated how Punirunes leaned into the “touching” gimmick for the virtual pet. Takara Tomy and Spin Master released something that does feel very unique. There’s a fun range of activities there. Just make sure you take proper care of it.

Variants of the Jack Frost from Soul Hackers 2 will appear in gacha machines from late November 2024. These include versions of Jack Frost that look like differently-flavored ice cream or shaved ice. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

As mentioned earlier, these Jack Frost toys will appear in gacha machines around Japan and will cost 300 JPY per attempt. That would convert to around $2. In total, there are six variations of Jack Frost figures and the name of the collection is “Shaved Ice Frost,” which is a reference to how the color schemes look like common flavors of shaved ice syrups.

The Jack Frost variants you can get are: Blue Hawaii Frost, Strawberry Frost, Milk Chocolate Frost, Melon Frost, and Lemon Frost. All of them have bodies that look like their flavor, while all of the accents like the hood and shoes are white.

Jack Frost isn’t just a mascot for Soul Hackers 2. It’s one of the mascots for the Shin Megami Tensei series as a whole. Aside from appearing in the majority of its fantastical games, it also shows up on Atlus's social media s and as merchandise. It appeared outside of the series as well, such as in Etrian Odyssey and Puzzle and Dragons.

Soul Hackers 2 is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

Takara Tomy revealed via its official Zoids X that it has opened pre-orders for the Spider-Zoids Synergenex action figures. The company will release the crossover toys featuring Zoids and Spider-Man in April 2025.

The new action figure will appear in two color variants. The first one will sport Spider-Man's regular red-and-blue palette, and the other will be mostly black. With a scale of 1/35, the Spider-Man figure will be around 50 mm (~1.97 inches) tall when he stands up by himself. Meanwhile, the Spider-Zoids will have an overall length of around 115 mm (~4.53 inches).

The company did not specify a website in its announcement tweet. However, pre-orders for the action figures are available on web stores like AmiAmi. Both the regular and black variants have the same MSRP of 4,400 yen (~$30.79), but AmiAmi is offering discounts so people can order each of them at just 3,520 yen (~$24.49) apiece.

Spider-Zoids was one of the numerous products Takara Tomy announced when it revealed its new crossover toy brand Synergenex in late August 2024. The company will release crossover action figures between Zoids and Transformers, along with many more external franchises, such as Godzilla, Macross, and Monster Hunter.
