SteamDB announced an update to the site that allows someone searching for PC games on the Steam storefront to opt out of seeing ones made with generative AI (Gen AI) with a new filter. The filtering feature was announced on social media site Bluesky, and that included a link to a search on the site that showed all games with “AI content disclosed.”

How it works is when someone searches, they would need to go to the “Filter by Tags” section. If you search for “AI” there, then SteamDB will let you select “AI content disclosed” to identify Gen AI games on Steam. In the announcement on social media, the “Profile Features Limited” tag was also highlighted. When you then perform a search, you can opt to not see any games with that notification. This would ideally let someone filter out those titles.

On the example search showing products that do have “AI content disclosed,” there are over 4,900 items highlighted. Some of the more famous ones are Call of Duty, The Finals, inZOI, Setallaris, The Outlast Trials, Liar’s Bar, My Summer Car, Inside the Backrooms, and Synduality: Echo of Ada. As an example, the disclosure on the Synduality page noted that Gen AI has “garage radio chatter voice” with “AI-generated text to speech.”

This sort of search also applies to Steam Next Fest 2025 demos. The filter can be added to that. Then, you can opt out of seeing games that use it. For example, the Mecha Break demo would come up as one, since it uses the Nvidia ACE system for Gen AI NPCs.

The SteamDB Gen AI filter is live now to help sort PC games.

Steam Early Access Games That Aren’t Updated Now Include Warnings

SteamDB confirmed that Valve updated the descriptions appearing on Early Access PC games on the Steam storefront to warn people about stagnant projects. The notice explaining how long it has been since the developers updated a title will appear immediately after the Early Access notification and before the text going over the developer description.

A good example to compare the change is to show how Fields of Mistria, a Stardew Valley style life sim currently in Early Access on Steam and actively update, looks when compared to the product page for Folk Tale, which entered that phase in 2013 and had development stop in 2017. As Fields of Mistria is regularly updated, there is no notice. In January 2025, NPC Studio announced a March 2025 update for example. Since Folk Tale development ended and it is even no longer on Steam, the warning notice is present. It reads, “Note: The last update made by the developers was over 7 years ago. The information and timeline described by the developers here may no longer be up to date.”

Here’s a gallery showing how an Early Access box on Steam looks both with and without the warning notice about gaps in updates about games.

Valve did not note how much of a gap there needs to be since the last update on an Early Access game before that notification will appear on a product page.

final fantasy soundtracks steam

Square Enix has ed 35 new Final Fantasy soundtracks onto Steam. All of them are available with a 20% discount at the moment.

It added all these soundtracks on January 22, 2025. Right now, you can purchase the OSTs for virtually all of the main Final Fantasy titles, including the expansion packs in Final Fantasy XIV. This includes the games from the Pixel Remaster series, all the Final Fantasy XIII games, and the “From Spire to Sea” DLC for Final Fantasy XVI. For some reason, it doesn’t have the OST for Final Fantasy X-2,  and it’s not bundled with the Final Fantasy X soundtrack, either. The only non-Final Fantasy soundtrack Square Enix offers via Steam is the Balan Wonderworld one, and it’s not on promotion at the moment.

There’s no pack that will offer multiple soundtracks, so you’ll need to purchase them individually. While each soundtrack technically counts as DLC for whatever Final Fantasy game they belong to, you don’t actually need to have the game to buy the soundtrack. As a note, while some re-releases of older Final Fantasy games remix or alter the music, the ones you can purchase from Square Enix Music are the original versions from the initial releases.

The latest mainline entry in the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is readily available on the PS5 and Windows PC.

Fishing For Cats Steam Trailer screenshot of the main character fishing while surrounded by cats

Fishing for cats, a new game by the indie developer xigehong, will make its way to Steam on July 25, 2024. The game is described as "a third person casual game where players fish in the park and attract stray cats," will be a realistic fishing sim set in a park full of cats.

The title, Fishing for cats, also describes the core gameplay loop. Players will be angling for fish and feeding it to the local cats in the park, building a relationship with the many cats they will encounter. You will also be able swim in the lake, go for pleasant jogs around the park, and roast fish to entice the many felines that will be roaming about.

You can take a look at screenshots from the game below:

For those looking for other cat-centric games, Little Kitty, Big City released in 2024. One of several titles featuring cats as a key fixture, this title will have you playing as a cat, instead of trying to curry their favor with fish.

Fishing for cats will release for PC through Steam on July 25, 2024.

Steam Next Fest is back in swing! Let's take a look at some of the 2024 Steam Next Fest demos worth checking out. Steam Next Fest is an online festival hosted by Valve where games get highlighted through livestreams and playable demos. This event is a golden opportunity for gamers to try out new titles and get a taste of what’s coming next in the world of gaming.

Here are a few selections for you to check out, in no particular order:

2024 Steam Deck Next Fest demos you can try now 4h714b

Cat Quest III 2z26h

The Cat Quest series has become a cult classic, and the third installment looks to polish and expand on its winning formula. Set in the pirate-themed Purribean, Cat Quest III lets you play as a swashbuckling purrivateer alongside a trusty spirit companion. The game promises an engaging open-world action RPG experience with plenty of humor and charm. I think fans of the previous games will likely find this new adventure a delightful continuation of the series.

Image via Necrosoft Games

Demonschool 4w6

Demonschool boasts a killer art style and seems like a throwback to the original Persona games. This new-style tactics RPG involves defeating enemies in both human and demon worlds while navigating university life on a mysterious island. The game features a rewindable planning phase for creating combos, a light horror narrative, and relationship-building with 15 characters. It has the makings of a sleeper hit, combining strategy with a compelling story.

Dungeon Clawler 5z345x

Dungeon Clawler mixes deck-building with a claw machine mechanic, creating a unique and fun gameplay experience. As you fight through the dungeon to reclaim your lost rabbit paw, you'll enjoy a blend of rogue-like mechanics and strategic planning. The art style is quirky and engaging, making this demo a standout.

Image via Microbird Games

Dungeons of Hinterberg 8n5u

Dungeons of Hinterberg looks like a Zelda set in the Alps, complete with snowboarding elements. You play as Luisa, a burnt-out law trainee escaping her corporate life to conquer dungeons in the Austrian Alps. With a mix of combat, puzzle-solving, and exploration, this game offers a unique adventure. The demo promises a blend of action and relaxation, with activities ranging from ziplining through forests to having coffee by the lake, all while fighting off monsters with sword and magic skills. It's an intriguing mix that has me hooked from the start.

Enotria: The Last Song 4l1xn

Enotria: The Last Song is a Soulslike game set in a bright, sun-lit world inspired by Italian folklore. The bright setting contrasts beautifully with the genre's typical dark aesthetic. With over 100 different enemies and a rich unique narrative, I feel like this game could offer a fresh take on the Soulslike genre.

Image via NPC Studio

Fields of Mistria 6dyc

For fans of Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, Fields of Mistria is a must-play. This farm sim leans heavily into fantasy elements, offering a charming and magical experience. Set in an idyllic village recovering from an earthquake, you'll restore the town and explore the land's newfound magic. The demo showcases the game's potential for cozy, rewarding gameplay.

Image via Crisalu Games

Goblin Cleanup 3t1x2f

Goblin Cleanup has a fun, tongue-in-cheek premise that involves you play as a goblin tasked with preparing a dungeon for the next adventurer. It's a humorous take on dungeon management, allowing for both cooperative and competitive play with up to three friends. The charm of this game lies in its unique concept and playful execution.

Image via Starry Studio

Once Human k6k1m

Once Human is one of the most anticipated showcases of Steam Next Fest, and I can't recommend it enough. This multiplayer open-world survival game is set in a strange, post-apocalyptic future where you and your friends fight monstrous enemies, uncover secret plots, and build your own territory. The demo highlights the game's vast world and cooperative gameplay, making it a must-try for fans of survival games.

Image via Pounce Light

Tiny Glade 11v56

Tiny Glade is the perfect relaxing building game to unwind with after a long day. This free-form building game lets you create castles and dioramas without management or combat.

Tiny Glade 11v56

Tiny Glade is the perfect relaxing building game to unwind with after a long day. This free-form building game lets you create castles and dioramas without management or combat. The gridless building chemistry allows for creativity and stress-free construction. It's a delightful and calming experience that stands out amidst more intense offerings.

See the Exclusive Steam Kingdom Hearts III Keyblade

Square Enix took to social media on the Steam product page for Kingdom Hearts III and its Re Mind DLC to share how the exclusive Keyblade for that storefront will look. The only way people can get Dead of Night is if they go through that retailer, just like how Epic Games Store has its own Keyblade.

Here’s the official announcement showing off the exclusive Dead of Night Kingdom Hearts III Steam Keyblade. The other forms aren’t shown. We also don’t know what its stats or Shotlocks will be.

https://twitter.com/KINGDOMHEARTS/status/1795447690903572720

As a reminder, this is one of multiple exclusive Kingdom Hearts III Keyblades tied to specific platforms or stores. For example, the Epic Games Store exclusive weapon is called Elemental Encoder. If you played the Cloud versions of the game on the Switch, you could grab Advent Red. The PlayStation 4 one is Midnight Blue, while the Xbox one is Phantom Green. There was also the former 7-Eleven Dawn Till Dusk Keyblade.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re MindDLC will come to PC via Steam on June 13, 2024. The games are also available on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store now.

Steam AI

Valve has put out a statement on its website in regards to how Steam will handle games that use AI technology. In short, Steam will allow developers to publish games with AI-generated assets in them, provided they fill out a disclosure section.

Developers have to describe what kind of AI their game uses. There will be two categories: pre-generated AI and live-generated AI. In the disclosure section, the developer needs to promise that the game does not include illegal or copyright-infringing content. If approved, information about the title using AI will appear on the store page for the game. s will also be able to report any illegal content in live-generated or pre-generated AI games.

In the statement, Valve also apologized for taking so long to come to a decision in regard to AI. The company explained that they needed time to research and discuss AI with game developers to better understand its usage and risks.

AI's use in games and other art pieces has become a controversial subject in the industry. Most of the comments to Valve’s statement are mixed. Some people pointed out that it will lead to more “shovelware titles,” though others have rebutted that AI can unlock “endless possibilities” in games if used right. Comments also pointed out that Valve’s statement doesn’t cover training data rights, which means the AI in the game may have learned from stolen data.

You can read Steam’s full statement on its community page.

seablip

Seablip, a Norwegian TRPG, now has a demo available to via Steam. It is part of the October 2023 Steam Next Fes line-up. The game also has a planned February 2024 release window, with a more detailed release date to appear soon. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Developer Jardar Solli first unveiled Seablip at TGS 2022. It is a 16-bit 2D game that is reminiscent of Stardew Valley. In it, you are a pirate captain who can explore the vast oceanic world while managing your ship and crew. You can also fight against other enemy pirates, upgrade your ship, look for treasure, and explore the seven seas. You can also relax with some fishing and farming.

So far, the game will only have English . It does not seem like it will have for other languages planned in the future, judging by the Kickstarter page. The Kickstarter first appeared in 2020 and it accumulated 184,506 NOK, suring its initial goal of 100,000 NOK. However, according to a message that Solli sent to 4Gamer, those funds ran out within a few months. While a demo came out in late September 2023, there are some minor differences and tweaks in the game in the current build. For example, you no longer need to wait the next day for your crew’s health to recover.

Seablip will come out on Windows PC some time in February 2024. The demo is readily available on Steam.

Melty Blood Type Lumina price

Steam will raise the prices for Melty Blood: Type Lumina in Argentina and Turkey. This price change will only affect those two regions, as well as the PC version of the game. According to Steam’s announcement on its community page, this is due to suspicious purchases made over the course of 2023. [Thanks, KaroshiMyriad!]

To summarize the statement, Steam originally did not increase regional prices for the game out of fear that it would unfairly impact players in Argentina and Turkey in particular. However, even though there has been an increase in Melty Blood: Type Lumina sales from those two regions, there has not been an increase in players who actually live there. As a result, Valve deduced that s outside of Argentina and Turkey are changing their region in Steam to purchase the game for less money.

In the community post, Steam also explained that it had no other choice but to increase the price of the game in those two regions due to so many taking advantage of the cost difference. The company ended the note by apologizing to those in the affected countries but asked for their understanding.

For reference, as of the time of writing, $1 (USD) equates to around 350 ARS. Responses to the change on Twitter and Steam Community have been very understanding. One who responded to the post noted that several YouTubers and online gaming guides had been recommending readers change their Steam region to Argentina. Thanks to the currency differences, this then allowed s to buy many games for less money. Unfortunately, this method negatively impacts those in Argentina more than those outside of it.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina is now available on the PS4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Steam Desktop Update

Valve released a major update for Steam on desktop. It already rolled out to all s, following a period of beta testing. The update brings a major overhaul to the app, bringing its codebase more in line with the Big Picture and Steam Deck versions of Steam. While the biggest changes will be noticed on desktop, some of the new features will also appear on Steam Deck.

Valve's new Steam update gave the whole app a visual overhaul. Fonts, menus and colors have all been adjusted. It’s not a drastic change, however, with most of the changes being tweaks to the previous UI.

The biggest visual changes in this update are visible in the Steam in-game overlay. It has a lot more customization options, allowing s to pick the features they’re more likely to need. A toolbar allows to pick these features, including their friends list, achievements and more. A new feature for the overlay has been rolled out too, providing s with a notepad tied to the game they’re playing. To make the notes feature more useful, windows can now be pinned to the screen during gameplay. Transparency and position of the windows is fully customizable.

It's the latest major update to Steam since a previous update to the mobile versions in October 2022. The new Steam update has been rolled out to all desktop s now.
