Capcom has announced that it will set up demo booths in its select amusement centers across Japan that let the public try out Street Fighter 6 on the Steam Deck. The company also noted that the booths will only be available for a limited time. But while the booths will appear on June 1, 2024, Capcom did not specify the closing date.

Here are the six outlets that will offer public Steam Deck demo booths, along with their opening and closing times:

  1. Capcom Store Osaka at Shinsaibashi Parco (10am to 8pm JST)
  2. Plaza Capcom Ikebukuro at Grandscape Ikebukuro (10am to 11pm JST)
  3. Plaza Capcom Shitoro at Aeon Mall Hamamatsu Shitoro in Shizuoka Prefecture (10am to 9pm JST)
  4. Plaza Capcom Hiroshima at The Outlets Hiroshima (10am to 10pm JST)
  5. Amuse Factory Tokoname at Aeon Mall Tokoname in Aichi Prefecture (10am to 9pm JST)
  6. Miraino Aeon Mall Hakusan in Ishikawa Prefecture (10am to 9pm JST)

Capcom's Steam Deck demo booths will also contribute to raising awareness of Steam as a gaming platform in Japan. As a reminder, the Steam Deck has been formally available for purchase in Japan and other East Asian countries and territories since late 2022.

Other Japanese game companies have also been reconsidering the releases of their titles on the platform. For instance, Bandai Namco just made the Steam versions of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Xenoverse 2, and FighterZ purchasable in Japan in late May 2024, even though those games have been long available elsewhere worldwide.

Street Fighter 6 is readily available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and arcades. The PC version that has come out on Steam is also playable on the Steam Deck.

Sunbreak Steam Deck

Steam Deck owners wanting to play Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak on their machines are out of luck this week, as a recent update patch resulted in the game becoming unplayable on the platform. While Capcom has not confirmed it, many are blaming the introduction of the Enigma DRM system in the update.

Ver.16.0.2.0 went live on all platforms on January 22, 2024, and it mainly served to make certain promotional DLC unavailable to reinstall. However, since the update some s have found evidence of the digital rights management software Engima being integrated into the game. While Capcom did not confirm the addition as being the source of the problems, similar issues popped up when the software was added to other Capcom games like Resident Evil Revelations. The company has, however, promised a hotfix for Sunbreak on Steam Deck sometime "in the very near future".

You can read the full patch notes for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Ver.16.0.2.0 on the official site, and find Capcom's official response to Steam Deck issues below:

https://twitter.com/monsterhunter/status/1749390124385771852

Earlier this month Takara Tomy announced 2 new Zoids model kits featuring designs based on Monster Hunter's Magnamalo and Rathalos. Capcom has also partnered with MSI Gaming to create several pieces of Monster Hunter-branded hardware and peripherals to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary.

Monster Hunter Rise and the Sunbreak expansion are readily available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. A fix for issues involving Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak on the Steam Deck is coming soon.

Steam Desktop Update

Valve released a major update for Steam on desktop. It already rolled out to all s, following a period of beta testing. The update brings a major overhaul to the app, bringing its codebase more in line with the Big Picture and Steam Deck versions of Steam. While the biggest changes will be noticed on desktop, some of the new features will also appear on Steam Deck.

Valve's new Steam update gave the whole app a visual overhaul. Fonts, menus and colors have all been adjusted. It’s not a drastic change, however, with most of the changes being tweaks to the previous UI.

The biggest visual changes in this update are visible in the Steam in-game overlay. It has a lot more customization options, allowing s to pick the features they’re more likely to need. A toolbar allows to pick these features, including their friends list, achievements and more. A new feature for the overlay has been rolled out too, providing s with a notepad tied to the game they’re playing. To make the notes feature more useful, windows can now be pinned to the screen during gameplay. Transparency and position of the windows is fully customizable.

It's the latest major update to Steam since a previous update to the mobile versions in October 2022. The new Steam update has been rolled out to all desktop s now.

What are the Best JRPGs on the Steam Deck FFVII Remake

The Steam Deck can be a handy way to enjoy all sorts of games from players' libraries. After all, getting to play things on the go is always a boon. But given how many titles are out there, pinning down specific ones can get overwhelming. So for this week's Siliconera's Speaks Up, we figured share some of what we would consider the best JRPGs on the Steam Deck and see what everyone had to recommend.

I mean, I don't own a Steam Deck yet, but I'd think FFVII Remake would be one of the best RPGs to play on it. It's a very demanding game, and that the handheld can manage it is great! Also, this is the only possible way you can play it essentially as Square Enix intended on the go. There's no Switch port, after all. Plus, it's a really interesting reimagining of FFVII, and given FFVII Rebirth, aka part 2, is on the way, it could be a good way to catch up. — Jenni

What are the Best JRPGs on the Steam Deck Tactics Ogre Reborn

I was thinking of being cheeky and calling the Steam Deck's best JRPG "a Nintendo Switch emulator," but thankfully Square Enix stepped in and resurrected one of my favorite games ever: Tactics Ogre Reborn. The tactical game is perfectly suited to play on a handheld device. It's a classic on the PSP and Vita, and it'll continue to be a classic on the Steam Deck, or even the Switch, where it also released. — Josh

What are the Best JRPGs on the Steam Deck Monster Hunter Stories 2

The Steam Deck is great for two sorts of games: ones that haven't gotten a port to the Switch yet, and ones that are just a bit too taxing for the now-aging Nintendo hardware. For the latter category, the Steam Deck can be the sort of "Switch Pro" many out there have been whining about needing for some time. A great case study: Monster Hunter Stories 2. The game's only on PC and Switch, and it's great on both, but it certainly benefits from a bit more graphical horsepower on the Deck. As a bonus? You can make the franchise's platform list even weirder, with the first game only releasing on 3DS and phones. — Graham

Steam Deck

Valve continues to work on its Steam Deck handheld, and has announced that in addition to various updates, more people will now be able to actually get one. Interested Steam Deck buyers can now order a Steam Deck without having to make a reservation. According to Valve, it has managed to get clear of supply chain and manufacturing issues that forced it to implement a queuing system to manage orders. Now, players no longer have to make a reservation just to order a unit in countries where the Steam Deck is offered. Buyers with existing reservations will have theirs prioritized as well. Reservations will still be needed, however, in places just getting the Deck for the first time, like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Valve also unveiled a bespoke Steam Deck Dock. Officially called the Docking Station, the dock allows a Steam Deck to be plugged into a power supply. It'll also be able to use video output to plug into a monitor or TV, and an ethernet port for wired online access.

Check out the official Valve Docking Station in the launch trailer below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvokyBOYe8Y

The dock contains three USB-A 3.1 ports, a USB-C port for power, a Displayport video output, an HDMI video output, and an ethernet port. It also s up to 4k displays and Freesync. The Docking Station includes an identical power supply to the Deck, allowing s to use it to charge up the device or use it as a mini desktop console. It's also designed to propping up the Deck so s can see the screen. The Docking Station isn't necessary, though. s can opt to use most third-party USB docks or hubs instead. Pre-orders for the Docking Station are open at this link. The dock costs $89 USD.

Other updates for the Steam Deck operating system include additional language , customizable options for working with docked mode, and improvements to offline mode stability. "Virtual Menus" expand the range of inputs available for more complex games, and a "mode shift" allows players to remap controls while holding down a button.

Check out a summary trailer highlighting Valve's Deck-related news below.

The Steam Deck is available to order from Valve's official website. Prices range from $399 USD to $649 USD, determined by storage size and speed.

Steam Deck coming to Japan

The Steam Deck will have its first regional expansion to East Asia. Valve revealed that it is working with Komodo to bring the Steam Deck to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. All three models of the portable console are available to pre-order in those countries and regions.

In Japan, the base 64GB model is available at ¥59,800 (~$449), the 256GB model at ¥79,800 (~$599), and the 512GB model at ¥99,800 (~$749). The prices are higher than in the U.S., where Valve priced the three models at $399, $529, and $649, respectively.

The cooperation between Valve and Komodo will not be limited to the Steam Deck's distribution. The company will set up a large booth dedicated to the portable console at Tokyo Game Show 2022. Japan's annual gaming event will have a physical-and-digital hybrid format, and it will take place on September 15-18, 2022. Valve has yet to announce the East Asian release date, but the TGS 2022 presentation will help introduce the console to the Japanese public ahead of its release.

The Steam Deck first appeared in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the European Union in late February 2022. The portable game console will soon make its way to Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. While Valve still plans to bring Steam Deck to more countries and regions, it advised people living in those locations to wait for further information.

Steam Deck February 2022 Release Date Set

We now know the official Steam Deck release date. Valve confirmed that yes, the first units will appear on February 25, 2022. Those who placed reservations and are in the first round will get theirs in that group. Once they place their orders, their systems will ship on February 28, 2022.

Valve offered some details about how the order emails for the Steam Deck will work once the release date rolls around. People will get an opportunity to order the unit model they reserved. Once they get an invite, they have 72 hours to purchase their Steam Deck. After the first round of invites, eventually each week more chances to order will appear.

As a reminder, this comes after a brief delay. Back in November 2021, Valve pushed the handheld out of December 2021. As usual, the global shortages and supply chain issues were to blame. Certain items needed to create the Steam Decks ended up not being available when expected.

As a reminder, the Steam Deck will be available in three variants. The least expensive bundle is $399. It is the 64GB eMMC model. There is also a 256GB NVMe SSD variant for $529 and a 512 GB NVMe SSD model for $649. Each one comes with a carrying case. People who place reservations now are expected to be able to buy and get one in Q2 2022.

The Valve Steam Deck release date is February 25, 2022.

Here's Devil May Cry 5 on the Steam Deck

When the Valve’s Steam Deck launches, it will be able to play a number of games from people’s Steam libraries anywhere. To help provide a better idea of how some may look, Capcom showed up with a video. It released a new trailer for an old game. Essentially, it spends about a minute showing how Devil May Cry 5 will look running on a Steam Deck.

This isn’t one continuous bit of footage. Also, it offers an over-the-shoulder perspective, so someone can see the Steam Deck while Devil May Cry 5 is running on it. Things kick off with a look at the title screen. Then, clips starring certain characters while they face particular challenges appear. For example, things begin with Nero fighting Goliath. After that, it cuts to Dante fighting some general enemies. V’s footage is shown off once that’s done. During his segment, we can see him summon and fight alongside Griffon and Nightmare. Finally, there’s a look at what Vergil can do.

People will have to wait a bit longer to see it in person. The Steam Deck was supposed to debut in December 2021. However, material shortages and global supply chain issues got in the way.

Devil May Cry 5 is available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The Steam Deck will begin shipping in February 2022.

Steam Deck FAQ features

Valve has opened up a new FAQ website dedicated to answering some important community questions regarding the Steam Deck's features and capabilities. Notably, Valve also revealed that consumers will not be able to change the model of their Steam Deck once ordered. They must cancel the order and reserve it again to change the model.

Both models of the Steam Deck will use an optically bonded IPS LCD glass screen with multitouch for up to ten fingers. The 512 GB model, however, will feature an additional anti-glare etched treatment. Additionally, the console will utilize two LRA motors under each trackpad for haptics, as well as a CTIA standard audio jack for audio and microphone input. While the console will use SteamOS by default, s can boot an OS off of a microSD card. Stream Deck owners will also have the option to multi-boot  through the console's BIOS menu.

Furthermore, the page confirms that the Steam Deck will multiple Steam s. Once s a game, they will be able to play offline as long as it doesn't require an internet connection. s will also be able to run non-Steam games through Proton and add games to Steam just like the desktop client. Valve has also stated that the Steam Deck UI will replace the current Big Picture feature on desktop at some point in the future.

The Steam Deck will ship sometime in December 2021 and is available only through Steam at the moment — though Valve does mention it may be partnering with retailers soon. Once reserved, s will be unable to change their model unless they cancel the order and reserve again. Be aware that this will put you at the bottom of the queue.
