Last week in Japan, we had a major release in Monster Hunter X for Nintendo 3DS, which saw some significant sales figures after having sold over a whopping 1.5 million units in its first two days of launch according to Famitsu’s trackers.

To compare to how Monster Hunter X stacks up against past Monster Hunter titles, here’s a look at the sales figures for the other titles from the series for 3DS.

  • (2011) Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate [3DS] – 521,959

  • (2013) Monster Hunter 4 [3DS] - 1,715,060

  • (2014) Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate [3DS] - 1,446,289

  • (2015) Monster Hunter X [3DS] - 1,488,367

(These numbers are from Media Create, who use different trackers, so they won’t be the same as the ones we get from Famitsu.)

As you can see, Monster Hunter 4 managed to sell the most thus far, at over 1.7 million copies within its first two days of launch; however, keep in mind that Monster Hunter 4 was a brand new generation to the series, whereas Monster Hunter X is considered a spinoff title, and one that will likely connect the gap between Monster Hunter 4 and the next generation title of the series.

It’s also worth noting that Monster Hunter X’s 1,488,367 launch figures from Media Create don’t take into the sales of Nintendo eShop s, and it’s been reported that Monster Hunter X has been seeing shortages across Japan, with eShop s outselling Monster Hunter 4G on the Japanese 3DS eShop.

<< How to read and understand sales

Last week, there were several key releases ranging from major titles such as the top-seller Star Wars Battlefront to the #2 and #3 with the latest in Gust’s Atelier series with Atelier Sophie: Alchemist of the Mysterious Book.

While the previous entry in the series, Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea, sold 43,744 copies on its opening week for PS3, keep in mind that Atelier Sophie has been spread across three platforms on PS4, PS3, and Vita for a total of 68,106 for its first week, so it has balanced itself out pretty well as far as sales go.

On the downside of things, Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival did not do well for an Animal Crossing game on its first week at 20,303 units sold, which might make sense considering that it’s not exactly your regular Animal Crossing title.

  • (2012) Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 603,064
  • (2015) Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer – 522,556

However, as you can see, Happy Home Designer, which also wasn’t your regular Animal Crossing title, yet it still managed to keep numbers close to the latest main entry in the series for its first week. It’s a given that Wii U title sales aren’t expected to have similar sale numbers to 3DS counterparts, but Nintendo probably isn’t too happy with its results, nonetheless.

At last year’s E3 2013, it was revealed that a new Star Wars: Battlefront was in the works. During this year’s E3, EA showed us a little more of the game by DICE, EA stuiods Bioware, and Visceral, during their press conference this afternoon.

While the video doesn’t show much as far as gameplay goes, we get to see the folks at DICE visit the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum to capture the original models and props that were used in the movies, so they can get all the details for their game.

They also visited the original movie locations to capture not only the environments, but the emotions they invoke, as well, which is also shown in some brief early in-engine footage.

EA will announce more on Star Wars: Battlefront in Spring of 2015.
