Nikkei Asia and The Verge reported that during Sony’s May 14, 2025 Q4 2025 Earnings Conference Report President Donald Trump’s tariffs came up, regarding the potential cost being ed on to customers like new PS5 owners and possibly making the console or other devices locally. Seeking Alpha also shared a transcript of the call. It also said the effect of the tariffs on foreign countries could cost Sony around ¥100 billion (~$680 million). Both Sony CFO Lin Tao and CEO Hiroki Totoki mentioned ing on the cost of the Trump tariffs to people who buy electronics or the PS5. Tao mentioned the duties affecting the prices of the company’s products and also “shipment allocation.” When Totoki brought it up in Seeking Alpha’s transcript, he mentioned that the ensuing costs of these fees could result in customers paying more or Sony either going with another model or stopping making things that are “not profitable.” 

Destin Legarie from Save State Plus shared a video of Lin Tao’s statement on social media.

As for making Sony devices like the PS5 in the US to avoid the Trump tariffs, Hiroki Totoki also addressed that. He mentioned it could be possible. However, as pointed out in the transcript of the call, he noted, “But PS5 are being manufactured in many areas, whether it's going to be manufactured in the US or not.” He also mentioned the possibly duties like a 100% fee on any movie not made in the US could affect Sony. 

Prior to these statements, Sony already announce PS5 price increases. In April 2025, it noted in certain regions the console and optional disc drive peripheral will cost more due to current situations.

Sony and Kojima Productions announced that there will be a PS5 Dualsense controller based on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but the limited edition design will only be sold directly through the PlayStation online storefront. These will appear on June 26, 2025, though we can pre-order the peripheral at 10am ET in the US and 10am local time in Europe on May 22, 2025. 

As this is a limited edition controller, Sony noted that it won’t be able to share exact quantities for each region. The company did share a price for it, however. It will cost $84.99/€84.99/£74.99 /¥12,480. Standard Dualsenses tend to cost around $79.99. This comes after price increases on the PS5 and some peripherals were already announced for multiple places worldwide. The announcement on the PlayStation Blog didn’t note if tariffs will affect the price in the US, since the product will be shipping in June 2025. 

Here’s a closer look at the Death Stranding 2 Dualsense PS5 controller. It largely looks like a standard, black version of the peripheral. However, the touchpad features a logo and design based on Drawbridge, the new organization found in this installment. There are also accents on the left and right grips based on technologies and designs found in the game.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will come to the PS5 on June 26, 2025, and the themed DualSense controller will be able to pre-order starting on May 22, 2025 ahead of its June 26, 2025 debut.

Bandai Namco announced its gachapon capsule machines in Japan will feature PlayStation controller keychains based on the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 models. They will appear in Japan in May 2025. It will cost 500円 (~$3.44) per try. Each one will also play a console startup sound from the generation it represents.

How it works is that each keychain’s center controller button can be pressed to play a sound. Exact sizes weren’t mentioned. However, a ball bead chain is attached to the center of each replica. Only the five options are shown. They each also only are based on the default designs for the controllers, which means only a grey PS1, black PS2, PS3, and PS4, and a white PS5 one appear.

While these PlayStation controller gachapon keychains are only available in Bandai Namco’s gacha machines in Japan right now, we could see them in the US capsule machines in the future too. The March 2025 update for the US and Canadian locations noted that the PlayStation Personal Marker Charm collection would appear. At the end of April 2025, I can attest to seeing the items, which involved PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 controllers, the PSP, the Vita, the PlayStation Portal, and Astro Bot, in machines.

This is one of many lines that appeared in 2025. For example, Grapht announced a PlayStation anniversary collection.

The PlayStation PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 controller keychains that play startup sounds will appear in Bandai Namco gachapon machines in Japan starting in May 2025. It’s unknown when we might see them in capsule machines worldwide.

During the February 2025 State of Play, Ultizero and Sony assigned Lost Soul Aside a May 30, 2025 release date, but now it’s delayed. While the Steam page still reflects that China Hero Project game’s original date, a new announcement confirmed the developer pushed back its launch by three months. It will now appear on the PS5 and PC on August 29, 2025. 

The official statement about Lost Soul Aside being delayed offered a very brief explanation for it not showing up when expected. Basically, it is about quality control. Ultizero wants to ensure the game will be in the best possible position at launch. This means the three months will be used to “polish” it.

“We are truly grateful for the positive response we've received from players all over the world since we announced Lost Soul Aside. We remain committed to delivering a high-quality game experience. To match the standards Ultizero Games have set for ourselves, we are going to take some additional time to polish the game. Lost Soul Aside will now release on August 29, 2025.

As a reminder, we follow Kaser in Lost Soul Aside. He and his sister were a part of the GLIMMER resistance group fighting against a corrupt emperor and his government, but the invasion of interdimensional invaders changed their entire focus. Especially since Louisa was lost in the process. Kaser now faces these new opponents to save his sister and all humankind.

Scarlet, a new movie from Mamoru Hosoda, will come out on November 21, 2025 in Japan. In other territories, Sony will release it on December 12, 2025.

The trailer is thirty seconds long, and it gives a look at the action and grim world Scarlet will take place in. According to the synopsis, Scarlet follows the titular princess who wakes up in the world of the dead after she fails to avenge her murdered father. In this world of insanity, Scarlet must finish her revenge and reach the Endless Place, or else her existence will disappear.

Mamoru Hosoda is a Japanese film director and animator who’s known for movies like Digimon: The Movie, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Wolf Children, and Summer Wars. The promotion material for Scarlet puts special emphasis on The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. In both the trailer and its description, it notes that Scarlet (the protagonist of the movie) is a shocking heroine who breaks all rules of contention, and that she appears nineteen years after The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, which came out in 2006.

Scarlet, the newest movie from Mamoru Hosoda, will air in Japanese theaters from November 21, 2025. Then, it'll appear in international theaters from December 12, 2025.

Sony kicked off today with a release date for Ghost of Yotei. The follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima will launch worldwide on October 2, 2025. Pre-orders will also open at stores like Amazon and the PlayStation Store on May 2, 2025. The company also shared a new trailer and details about the standard, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions of Ghost of Yotei.

First, here’s the latest Ghosts of Yotei trailer that appeared alongside the worldwide release date. It featured a better look at Atsu’s journey. After the Yotei Six murdered her family, she dedicated her life to getting revenge. As this is an open-ended adventure through Ezo, we’ll get to choose the order in which she hunts down her enemies.

The last trailer featuring it showed up during December 2024.

As for the editions, anyone who pre-orders Ghost of Yotei will get an avatar set to use with their PlayStation Network profile and make them look like Atsu or the Yotei six . They also get an additional mask option for Atsu. Here’s how that looks.

Finally, here’s an overview of all three editions of Ghost of Yotei that discuss the contents of the standard, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s Edition. Sony didn’t share the limited edition’s price yet.

• Standard Edition that only includes the game - $69.99.
• Digital Deluxe Edition that includes the game, Snake Armor, an Armor Dye, a Horse and Saddle, a Sword Kit, a Charm, and early unlock for Traveler’s Maps - $79.99
• Collector’s Edition that includes the game, all of the add-ons in the Digital Deluxe edition, real-world replicas of Atsu’s Ghost Mask, sash, and tsuba, a set of art cards, the Zeni Hajiki coin game with pouch to hold it, and a papercraft ginkgo tree.

Sony shared images of all of those editions as well, so even if there’s a situation where the DLC doesn’t have a listed name yet, we know how they’ll look.

Ghost of Yotei will come to the PlayStation 5, the official worldwide release date is now October 2, 2025.

The PlayStation Network will undergo maintenance on April 15, 2025. During this time, some PS3, PS4, and PS Vita games’ online functions may not be available.

The maintenance will run from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. That would convert to 6:00 PM PDT/9:00 PM EDT of April 14 to 1:00 AM PDT/4:00 AM EDT. The English s for Sony and PlayStation have not made any announcement for maintenance, so it appears that this is only for Japan. 

Many of the replies and QRTs to the original Tweet are complaining about how long the maintenance will last, as well as how many consoles will be affected. Some are wondering what they should do during this time, even though April 15, 2025 is a Tuesday. As a reminder, the maintenance will only impact online services, which means that games that have an offline mode will still be playable during the above hours.

As of the time of writing, Sony has not mentioned anything about the PS5’s servers going offline for any maintenance. This likely only affects the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita due to the age of the above consoles. For reference, the PS3 came out in 2006, the Vita in 2011, and the PS4 in 2013. All of them are already over a decade old.

The PlayStation Network maintenance for the PS3, PS4, and PS Vita will run from 6:00 PM PDT/9:00 PM EDT of April 14, 2025, to 1:00 AM PDT/4:00 AM EDT of April 15, 2025.

Sony announced changes in price for the PlayStation 5 and the cost of the optional PS5 disc drive for Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the UK. Certain variants of the console will be more expensive in locations in those regions. However, the disc drive price will be going down. It cited “high inflation” and “exchange rates” as the reasons for the changes. This means it will be closer in price to a Switch 2 in some places, which is €469/£395/AUD $699.95. PS5 Pros are unaffected.

In Europe and the UK, only the PS5 Digital Edition price is increasing, as the disc drive cost goes down in both regions. It will be €499.99, rather than €399.99. In the UK, it will be £429.99 instead of £359.99. The peripheral will now be €79.99 and  £69.99, as it previously cost €119.99 and £99.99. 

In Australia and New Zealand, both PlayStation 5 models, such as the standard one and PS5 Digital Edition, will cost more. One without a disc drive will be AUD $749.95 and NZD $859.95, while ones with will be AUD $829.95 and NZD $949.95. As for the new, lower disc drive prices, those will now be AUD $124.95 and NZD $139.95. 

Only these regions are affected so far. Sony didn’t mention any changes for countries in Asia or North America yet. It’s unknown if those could also be affected.

The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and standard model, as well as the PS5 disc drive, are available worldwide, and prices in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the UK go up on April 14, 2025.

The official English social media for the Chainsaw Man series announced that the The Movie: Reze Arc will release outside Japan in US theaters on October 29, 2025. It is part of the Sony and Crunchyroll CinemaCon 2025 announcements. This is just over a month after its Japanese debut on September 19, 2025. 

The official reveal included one of the piece of Japanese art shared for the new film. While the full name of the film is Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc, it is actually an adaptation of the Bomb Girl arc of the Public Safety Saga portion of the manga. This is the fifth part of that story and comes right after the halfway point of the series. As the name suggests, a newly introduced character named Reze is one of the most central characters in it. However, the latest key art only shows Denji as Chainsaw Man.

Sony’s announcement didn’t note when people can start reserving theater tickets in the US for the English release of Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc. We also don’t know if there will be a dubbed version available, or if it will only be shown with Japanese voice acting and English subtitles.

The first season of Chainsaw Man is streaming on Crunchyroll now. As for the manga, it’s currently in the Academy part of the story, and the Aging Devil arc recently finished. Viz Media handles its release outside of Japan, and volume 18 is due to debut on May 6, 2025. 

Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc will debut in Japan on September 19, 2025, and it will appear in US theaters in English on October 29, 2025.

“Players”, the song that Yoasobi composed and sang for the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, topped the Oricon charts in Japan. The song came out about a week ago on March 21, 2025. [Thanks, PR Times!]

To be specific, it topped the Oricon Weekly Digital Singles Ranking, but it managed this feat in its first week. “Players” is part of Project Memory Card, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation’s release. of the public submitted their “games I’d like to forget so I can experience it again for the first time,” and Yoasobi wrote the song based on these answers. The music video for the song also garnered attention for including actress Nanase Nishino, YouTuber Kiyo, and VTuber Usada Pekora.

Due to Yoasobi’s popularity, as well as the band’s songs often appearing in high-profile media or collaborations, it’s not surprising to see their song top the Oricon charts. They’ve accomplished this many times in the past as well. In October 2023, “Yuusha”, which is the opening for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,  topped the Weekly Digital Singles Ranking. Earlier that same year, their song “Idol” topped the chart six weeks in a row, which was a first in Oricon history. “Idol” served as the opening for Oshi no Ko.

Other major collaborations and projects Yoasobi participated in so far for 2025 include the Tirori Mix 2025 for McDonald’s Japan.

Yoasobi ed its new song “Players,” which appeared in a commercial to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation. Usada Pekora of Hololive also appeared as one of the trio of characters in said commercial.

The video starts with the three characters holding up a PlayStation memory card bearing the anniversary logo, only for it to suck them into a fantasy world. After the train transforms into something more reminiscent of a flying centipede, they jump out of it while the “Play has no limits” catchphrase appears. You can watch the commercial with the “Players” song via the official Yoasobi or PlayStation social media channels, as well as here:

As mentioned earlier, Usada Pekora, a hololive VTuber, appears in the PlayStation Yoasobi commercial. She also provides the voice acting. The others with her are Nanase Nishino (an actress, television host, and former Nogizaka46 idol) and Kiyo (a Japanese YouTuber with over 5.19 million subscribers as of the time of writing. Animator and illustrator, Kenichi Yoshida, designed the characters for this commercial. He previously worked on shows and films such as Eureka Seven, Gundam Reconguista in G, and Princess Mononoke.

Sony commissioning Yoasobi to write “Players” for its PlayStation commercial is only the latest of high-profile collaborations with the band. Just earlier this year, Yoasobi’s “Gunjou” appeared in McDonald’s Japan’s Tirori Mix for 2025. They also wrote and performed the NHK Sports theme song back in 2024.

Bandai Lifestyle will release an acrylic logo display of the PlayStation logo for the console’s 30th anniversary. Aside from decorating your room, the display can also play the original PlayStation’s start-up sound at the press of a button.

You can pre-order the PlayStation acrylic logo display via Bandai. However, you need to be in Japan to even access the webpage. It costs 3300 JPY ($22.15) and pre-orders for the display will close on April 20, 2025. It’ll ship out in July 2025. However, Bandai will only deliver within Japan. So those living outside the country will need to use a proxy service.

This acrylic logo display is the first from the new Sounds line, which will combine decoration with sound. When you purchase this, you’ll get the acrylic PlayStation logo and the stand to display it on. The sound of the start-up noise is actually coming from said stand.

The original PlayStation console came out in December 1994. Through 2024 and now 2025, Sony and other brands have released lots of commemorative items to celebrate its 30th years. For example, in January 2025, Grapht released goods including keychains of popular games from each PlayStation generation. Takarajima will also release a bag resembling the original PlayStation with the May 2025 issue of its smart magazine.

Sony has announced that sign ups for the PlayStation beta program are now open. The information came through an official PlayStation blog post from Senior Director at Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications Sid Shuman However, consumers will need to meet a handful of requirements in order to participate.

Consumers with a PlayStation Network can sign up through a dedicate website. Participating in the beta program will allow for consumers to playtest games on their PlayStation 5 and PC. This will also extend to new console features PlayStation will roll out, which includes the PlayStation App for mobile devices.

The requirements in order to participate in the beta program are as follows:

• Players must have a valid for PlayStation Network in good standing with a current email address. s with restrictions or violations may not be eligible for participation.
• Players must live in the region where Beta Program at PlayStation is available.
• Players must meet the legal age requirement for their region.

In November 2024, Sony announced that PlayStation Portal would cloud gaming. PlayStation Portal is a service that allows for consumers to experience a “console-quality gaming experience on a handheld device," according to Sony. The service is still in beta.

Consumers can immediately sign up for the PlayStation beta program, and is available to s globally.

Takarajima announced that the May 2025 issue of its smart magazine will include a bag that resembles the original PlayStation console. The magazine will cost 1590 JPY ($10.60) and it’ll come out on March 25, 2025. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

This PlayStation bag is a special commemorative item to celebrate both the PlayStation’s and smart’s 30th anniversaries. It faithfully recreates the retro console, complete with the vents and feet on the bottom. You can use this bag to organize small items like make-up, accessories, or items that you want to keep together in a suitcase. It features two zippers and four mesh pockets inside. As for the size, it’s about 22 x 15 x 5 cm.

From around late 2024, Sony, as well as other companies it’s teaming up with, has released special commemorative items to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the console, which first came out in December 1994. For example, a 30th anniversary version of the PS5 consoles and accessories looked like the original PS. Sony also released goods like messenger bags, keychains, and hats that resemble the PS or nostalgic titles from PlayStation history.

The PlayStation bag will come with the May 2025 issue of smart. Takarajima offers international delivery, so overseas customers should be able to purchase it as well.

Sony Interactive Entertainment shared a new PlayStation Lineup music video highlighting 15 highly anticipated games coming to the PS5, alongside a few that have already released. The song accompanying the footage is titled “Chiisana Heya Kara (From a Small Room)” and is performed by singer Akari Nanawo.

The video is inspired by the theme of visiting vast video game worlds starting from a small room. The games featured showcase brief glimpses of gameplay footage as seen in previously released trailers. Additionally, 11 different artists worked on the illustrations for the small rooms that work as transitions between game clips.
