The Snow Miku DLC for Desktop Mate has appeared on Steam, though it’s not available yet. Infiniteloop has not listed a release date, but if you put it in your wishlist, Steam will inform you when you can it.

The description of the Snow Miku DLC actually provides a hint as to when you can it for Desktop Mate. It states that the DLC will only be available for a year, and that you have until January 31, 2026 to it into your game. That means we can expect a January 31, 2025 release date for the DLC.

This DLC uses the 2025 version of Snow Miku to hang out on your desktop. She will have different gestures and motions than the regular Hatsune Miku. However, she’ll still work like an ordinary Desktop Mate, meaning she’ll move around your screen, sit on your window, and play with the mouse cursor.

In early January 2025, Infiniteloop released a Hatsune Miku mascot DLC for Desktop Mate. This was the first DLC for the game. So far, both DLC characters are Miku, so it’s hard to tell at this point if Infiniteloop plans to add characters from other intellectual properties and companies, or if we’ll get another Vocaloid next.

Desktop Mate is available on Windows PC via Steam for free. The Hatsune Miku DLC is paid content, and so the Snow Miku DLC will likely be as well.

Sanrio announced the release of new line of merchandise featuring Hatsune Miku dressed as characters My Melody and Kuromi to celebrate Snow Miku 2025. The goods are now available for purchase and are being sold exclusively in Hokkaido, Japan.

The new Snow Miku costumes are matching outfits inspired by gothic lolita fashion as well as the color schemes of both Kuromi and My Melody. The full sized Hatsune Miku designs and costumes were designed by artist Nou (@nounoknown on X) while the super deformed chibi designs used in the merchandise were created by artist Hiyori Asahikawa (@asahikawa33 on X.)

All the items are offered in 4 different varieties, with 2 of them featuring the Kuromi outfit and pairing in different poses and the remaining 2 doing the same for the My Melody design. “Crystal Snow,” the theme song for the 2025 Snow Miku design, is now available on YouTube. Aqu3ra composed the song, while TomoboP handled the mastering. As usual, the Hatsune Miku Vocaloid software is used for the music.

Aqu3ra is a newer Vocaloid producer; he made his debut in 2018. Some examples of his compositions include “Supernova,” “Ghost Dance,” and “Lonely Universe.” TomoboP (Tomodachi BoshuuP) debuted in 2009. Though he started out as a composer, he’s more prominent nowadays for his audio mastering and engineering work. Illustrator Yuribou handled the artwork and animation for the “Crystal Snow” music video. Mono-Devoid edited it as well.

In the description for “Crystal Snow,” Piapro described it as a lovely song that conveys the warmth inside the cold feeling of ice. Piapro revealed this year’s design back in August 2024. The theme for this year was “Kira Kira Snow Material,” which is why there are snowflakes and ice shards in Miku’s hair and outfit. This theme might’ve also served as inspiration for Aqu3ra and TomoboP when working on the song.

Snow Miku is a seasonal version of Miku, with a design that changes every year depending on Piapro’s theme. Design contests for Snow Miku started in 2012 and the look with the most votes at the end would be the “official” one to receive merchandise or appear in music videos. The first time a theme song appeared for a Snow Miku was in 2014, though.

Good Smile Company will open up pre-orders for the Snow Miku 2025 Nendoroid later this year.

The official website for Snow Miku 2025 is now open, and the main key art for the character has been revealed. The main event will take place in Hokkaido between February 8-9, 2025.

The main visual for Snow Miku 2025 is featured in the website, and was created by X (formerly Twitter) and illustrator "tokki_517." The new visual depicts a winter version of Hatsune Miku alongside Rabbit Yukine, Snow Miku pet and mascot character, wearing a similar outfit to Miku’s. The new design follows the new “Kira Kira Snow Material” theme for Snow Miku 2025, with the characters featured inside an ice cave with sparkling ice crystals.

Additionally, Piapro announced that a Snow Miku themed train will between November 16, 2024 and March 23, 2025. The new train will feature Snow Miku and Rabbit Yukine in their new 2025 costumes. A train with the previous 2024 designs was in operation during the previous Snow Miku 2024 event.

As a reminder, the original Snow Miku 2025 costumes were designed by X (formerly Twitter) “nekohoshi_neko.” A new Nendoroid of the character will feature an outfit based her new design sometime in 2025.

The Snow Miku 2025 main event will be held in Hokkaido on February 8-9, 2025, with the new Snow Miku train operating in Sapporo between November 16, 2024 and March 23, 2025.

The design for Snow Miku 2025 has been decided. The winner is X (formerly known as Twitter) “nekohoshi_neko,” and the theme for this year was “Kira Kira Snow Material.”

Piapro didn’t give specific guidelines or a description for the prompt. However, it seems that nekohoshi_neko interpreted it to mean individual snowflakes. There are snow crystals in Miku’s hair, as well as in the her dress. Meanwhile, her pigtails curl at the ends and have different-colored streaks, as well as snowflake designs, in them. Unlike normal Mikus, she has a cat-shaped mouth. Rabbit Yukine, the little mascot and friend for Snow Miku, has a similar little outfit. However, the ornament in its hair is a snowball rather than a snowflake.

Piapro chose the winner for this year. You can check out the other submissions, as well as the runner-ups, via the official website. The other designs have very different takes on the prompt. For example, one of them chose to put the hexagonal design of snowflakes in the hem of Miku’s dress. Another one focused more on the bright and glittery aspect of snow. As a reminder, the winning design for Snow Miku will appear as a Nendoroid in the future. There will also be a special theme song for the character. The Snow Miku 2025 Nendoroid will likely appear some time next year.
