Masahiro Ito took to social media to break down the specific visual inspirations for the Silent Hill 2 enemies known as the Mandarin and Flesh Lip. Ito discussed the creatures at length and how aspects of their appearances changed in the remake.

The first revelation was involved how the Silent Hill 2 enemies were based on internal lore from the game and actual real-world art. Both Mandarin and Flesh Lip feature prominent mouth designs to symbolize James' memory of Mary's verbal abuse. Both of these were also inspired by Francis Bacon's "Second Version of Triptych 1944" by the artist Francis Bacon.

Masahiro Ito went into further detail in the thread, as well as showcased specific images.

Ito noted subtle changes were made to Mandarin in the remake, specifically pertaining to the changes to monsters in the Otherworld that add surgical tape to the creatures' bodies. Ito also mentioned how Flesh Lip and the Mary boss fight share similar visual signifiers.

This is not the first of the development team dove into the influence and creative decisions around the Silent Hill 2 remake. Bloober Team previously discussed the creation process for James Sunderland, the game's protagonist.

Silent Hill 2 is available now on PC, and PS5. It will remain a Sony exclusive for a year. The original game is playable on the PS2, Xbox, and PC, as well as in Silent Hill HD Collection on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Steam Cloud Saves Come to Silent Hill 2 on PC

Konami and Bloober announced that the PC version of Silent Hill 2 now s the Steam Cloud Saves feature. However, you do need to the October 25, 2024 patch to bring it up to 1.05. Also, there are other consequences to this being added to the game.

Once you get the Silent Hill 2 PC patch, Steam Cloud Saves immediately kick in when you start the game. This means that it will always rely on those save files shared to the cloud. Konami and Bloober warned that if someone wanted to keep saving their local files, they should keep track of the folder where those are kept and back them up. You should be able to find them in “AppData\Local\SilentHill2\Saved\SaveGames” under your name on your computer.

This isn’t the only change in this update. It also acts as a hotfix for the PS5 version of the game. Patch 1.04 made it impossible to progress in the Labyrinth if you had saved there, and 1.05 allows those people to continue playing the game.

These sorts of patches come regularly. For example, earlier in October 2024, a patch appeared to prevent James from getting “stuck” in certain situations.

Silent Hill 2 is available for the PS5 and PC. It will be about a year before the PS5 exclusivity arrangement expires.

Horror games are so iconic. Few games immerse the player in an evocative and memorable world as well as horror titles. Famous, classic Japanese horror series like Resident Evil and Silent Hill keep putting out games. In fact, the recent release of Silent Hill 2 shows there is plenty of room for more horror remakes. This are our picks for the classic horror games that need a sequel or remake next.

Siliconera Speaks Up: Horror Games That Need a Remake or Sequel 602v4s

I'm kind of loathe to think of Siren: Blood Curse as a remake of the original game since it's SO different in of…well, everything. It's more a reimagination, really. While a much more faithful remake of Siren would be nice, I'm one of those people who believe that if you're going to play it, you should play the original, horrible, janky version and get that true frustrating experience. It's part of the charm. -- Stephanie (1/2)

Siren 2, on the other hand, seemed to have genuinely wanted to provide some quality-of-life upgrades. As such, it would be nice to see a proper remake of that one. Heck, a Siren 3 that's similar to the first two in of gameplay and writing would be great too. It might be difficult though, since the main creative team for Siren seem to be at Bokeh Game Studio now and I don't know who even has the rights to the IP anymore. -- Stephanie (2/2)

I have to agree with Stephanie. Siren should come back. It's such a memorable story, and the gameplay was so unusual and different. It genuinely felt desperate and horrifying when you knew the Shibito were everywhere, you were outnumbered, and it would be so easy to panic and slip up. -- Jenni

I’m a wimp when it comes to horror games so I mostly stick to visual novels. Though not outright horror games, I keep hoping and praying for new games in the Zero Escape and Danganronpa series. They both have light spooky elements, especially 999 with the “knocking” part that actually made me jump when I first played it. Both series made me fall in love with the visual novel genre and I just need more of both. This is particularly painful for Zero Escape since I will stand by that Zero Time Dilemma’s most horrifying part was its terribly unfinished ending that needs a sequel someday. -- Cody

The Silent Hill 2 remake is finally out from Bloober Team and Konami. With its arrival, it is now time to figure out what the best Silent Hill game of all time is. The Siliconera staff has spoken and these are our picks for the our favorite Silent Hill game ever, in of world, lore, exploration, story, characters, gameplay, and more.

Siliconera Speaks Up: Best Silent Hill Game Ever 5d4818

I really loved Silent Hill 3, but it was more because of the communal experience. I went through that entry with three close friends in college. So when we'd play, we'd all do so together. It meant we really got to savor the experience, enjoy the lore and deal with the scares together as a whole. -- Jenni

I'm going to expose myself as a casual Silent Hill fan. I’ll say that the only Silent Hill game I ever played to completion was Silent Hill 2. My only other one was, yes, Silent Hill: Origins, but I don't anything outside of the protagonist's hammerspace pockets. To be honest, I don't find the Silent Hill games that scary. The combat is available as an action, but I really like the overarching lore of the franchise. The self-contained narrative of Silent Hill 2, as well as its focus on the personal and psychological issues of its characters, are very interesting to me from a story standpoint. As a game, yeah, it can be frustrating. But as an experience, well, there's a reason that a lot of people consider Silent Hill 2 to be one of the finest examples of video games as art. -- Stephanie

Silent Hill 2 and 3 are undoubtedly up there as likely the best in the series. However, I have a soft spot for Silent Hill: Origins. I’ve always been a scaredy cat so this is probably the first horror game I played to completion. The graphics, at the time, impressed me for a handheld title. In addition, the gameplay felt nearly on the level of a home console experience. Being able to play on a smaller screen helped me to not be too afraid and I have fond memories of sneaking off to the school library to play it. Not to mention the soundtrack from Akira Yamaoka is stellar. It kickstarted my love for this series, which is a rarity in the genre. -- Cody

James Sunderland in his olive green jacket,

Konami updated its official store to include two new pieces of Silent Hill 2 merchandise alongside the remake's debut. However, both won't actually launch until February 2025. A music box and a wearable replica of James Sunderland's olive jacket from Silent Hill 2 are available to pre-order.

The Silent Hill 2 Metal Music Box plays "Promise (Reprise)," a song that originated Silent Hill 2. However, it also went on to also feature prominently in other Silent Hill media after that debut. The metal box features designs based on Mary's video tape, the line "There was a hole here, it's gone now," the two Pyramid Heads, and James rowing the boat. It is currently available for pre-order for $79.99.

You can take a look at the design here:

The Silent Hill 2 James' Jacket is a new version in honor of the Silent Hill 2 remake. It is made of 100% woven cotton. The inlay on the inside features the seal of Metatron, the sigil used as a save point in the game. The jacket also will come with a replica map of the town of Silent Hill and a tactical flashlight (sans batteries). It is retailing on the Official Konami Store for $149.99.

Bloober Team Analyzes Silent Hill 2 Remake’s James Sunderland in Video

Bloober Team released a new Silent Hill 2 Dev Diaries video going over James Sunderland and analyzing the character, now that the remake launched. Creative Director and Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart, Lead Writer Andrzej Madrzak, Senior Narrative Designer Barbara Kciuk, Lead Character Artist Pablo Poliakov, and Senior 3D Animator Jakub Zych all appeared in the video to discuss the development process and character. James’ voice actor Luke Roberts also showed up to discuss his portrayal and take on James.

Things began by setting up James Sunderland as a normal man in an abnormal situation in Silent Hill 2. From there, Lenart discussed how Bloober Team wanted to pay tribute to what was, then update and add their own touches. This portion went over how the character’s appearance changed over the in-game time spent in the town. So his facial hair growth is pointed out, as is the way his clothing deteriorates and how he starts to look more exhausted. The designers bring up how combat is designed to show how he is an “office worker” and not a warrior.

From about the four minute mark, the focus of the Silent Hill 2 Dev Diaries installment is largely on Luke Roberts and his portrayal of James Sunderland. We see both the voice acting and motion capture endeavors with Bloober Team. Roberts also shared what it was like to play the character.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Exact Release Date Launch Times Shared

We know that the Silent Hill 2 release date is October 8, 2024, but now Konami and Bloober Team also announced the exact launch times. Depending on where you live and how you get your copy, you could be playing it on October 7, 2024.

For most places, the PS5 launch time is generally 12am local time on October 8, 2024. This is true of places like Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Paris, Riyadh, Sao Paulo, Sydney, Tokyo, and Warsaw. The one exception is Los Angeles, where people who picked up the PS5 version of Silent Hill 2 can start playing at 9pm PT on October 7, 2024.

It’s when it comes to the PC version of the game that the release times get scattered due to how Steam works. Here’s the list of when it will be available in various time zones. Note that in North America, people in the Central or Pacific ones will be able to start playing on October 7, 2024. (I also included the notable cities tied to each time zone on the map to help with picking out regions.)

However, in some cases there could be people who are already playing Silent Hill 2 remake ahead of the official release date and launch times. This is because some are already reporting finding physical copies in the wild. There are reports on Reddit from people who already found copies of Silent Hill 2 or got their copy sent to them early. However, since this is a remake of an over 20 year old game, at least spoilers aren’t an issue.

Silent Hill 2 remake will come to the PS5 and PC on October 8, 2024, though that might be October 7, 2024 depending on where you live. It is a PS5 console exclusive for a year.

Multiple new Silent Hill 2 videos are here, with one teasing locations and the other two highlighting the soundtrack for the remake.

As the Silent Hill 2 October 2024 release date draws nearer, Konami and Bloober Team teased more looks at the remake locations and its soundtrack. These tend to come in the form of screenshots or brief videos on social media, which is where the newest clip appeared. It focused on the places we’ll go when we get to town, with one of the moments offering us a peek at Heaven’s Night now in Silent Hill 2. However, there are also two new soundtrack trailers to listen to as well.

This brief clip focuses on three spots we’ll go to. They don’t exactly appear in order, and we don’t get to see people like James or Mary in the spots. The latest teaser begins with a look at Brookhaven Hospital from the outside. This is a recurring place featured in multiple installments. After that, we get to see the Heaven’s Night club where Maria works in Silent Hill 2. Finally, we get to see inside of Toluca Prison, which is only a featured spot in this installment.

Here's the video looking at Silent Hill 2 locations from social media:

Silent Hill 2 remake ment in Shibuya

Konami Digital Entertainment announced that it has placed a physical ment booth for its remake of Silent Hill 2 in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. The company also designed the booth to be regularly updated with a more eerie appearance every night until September 24, 2024.

People can find the ment booth near the MAGNET by SHIBUYA109 building. When the company just placed the booth on September 18, 2024, it simply showed James Sunderland walking through clean walls. The daily updates will gradually add rust to the walls, and the climactic update on September 24, 2024, will eventually add a monstrous creature on the other side. The Japanese text that appears in the middle can be translated to "That fear will eat into your world as well."

Even though the Silent Hill 2 remake is also slated to appear worldwide on PCs via Steam, the Japanese ment only lists the PS5 as its platform. Several Japanese gaming companies still have a habit of omitting PC platforms in favor of consoles, but some of them are also gradually embracing the PC platform, such as Bandai Namco with its Dragon Ball games on Steam.

This Shibuya ment will not be the only booth Konami places to promote the Silent Hill 2 remake. The company will also set up a theater stage themed after the game at its Tokyo Game Show 2024 booth. People who enter the stage and watch the trailer there will receive a set of five stickers featuring James and the hostile creatures.

Konami will release the Silent Hill 2 remake for PlayStation 5 and PC on October 8, 2024. The Silent Hill 2 remake ment in Shibuya is available to view until September 30, 2024.

See the New Pyramid Head Silent Hill 2 Remake Screenshot

Konami and Bloober have been teasing the Silent Hill 2 remake more and more often as its October 2024 debut draws near, and the latest one involves a screenshot of Pyramid Head. This doesn’t show any recreation of the classic cinematic or gameplay, but instead offers a look at the entity from behind.

Very little context was offered for the new Silent Hill 2 screenshot of Pyramid Head. Konami only noted it is a “back shot” of the character. Due to the lighting, it is difficult to see many details. However, we can see the back of the creature’s distinctive head, notice how the apron he wears doesn’t cover his back, and see he is still dragging his trademark knife.

Here’s the new “back shot” screenshot of Pyramid Head, as well as a previously released one that shows the Silent Hill 2 remake villain from the front.

Pyramid Head has become an iconic figure for Konami. He’s appeared in other games, such as Dead by Daylight. There are also many figures of him. Most recently was a Nendoroid, which is expected to be released in 2025 worldwide. A static, full-sized Pop Up Parade figure also appeared.

Silent Hill 2 will come out on October 8, 2024 for the PS5 and Windows PC.

You Can Turn Off the UI, Turn on 90s Filter in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Konami and Bloober Team announced that people looking to call back to the original Silent Hill 2 experience or go with a more immersive experience will be able to turn off the game’s UI or use an optional 90s filter in the remake. Bloober also shared a brief trailer on social media that highlighted both of the features in-action.

The latest Silent Hill 2 remake trailer mainly focuses on what the game looks like if we turn the UI off. We can more completely see the area around James. Also, though it is only a brief aside, we can see how James will turn his head toward the right when one of the monsters in the town rises up off the ground and continues looking at it as the person playing runs past it. Bloober noted that, alongside audio and visual cues, will provide insight into notable features around a person if the UI is off.

As for the 90s Silent Hill 2 remake filter, it is designed to make it look more like the original PS2 game. In the sample trailer, we can see some of the film grain effects in action with that option.

We’ve seen quite a bit of gameplay for the game throughout 2024, with one of the first trailers showing up in January. Additional interviews also talked about efforts made to make the game feel more like the original release.

The Silent Hill 2 remake will appear on the PS5 and Windows PC on October 8, 2024.

Masahiro Ito Said Silent Hill 2 Influenced by David Lynch Movies

Masahiro Ito, an artist known for his work on the Silent Hill series, took to social media to confirm David Lynch movies ended up having an influence on Silent Hill 2. During the series of tweets he specifically referenced Lost Highway, as well as noted his affection for Mulholland Drive

When discussing the potential influence of David Lynch movies on Silent Hill 2, Ito specifically mentioned during development that they considered multiple protagonists. He noted this was in reference to Lost Highway, but then said it was dismissed as “the story would have become too complicated.” He then also commented on possible responses from people who might criticize him speaking about the development process.

Here’s the full series of tweets discussing the influences:

Masahiro Ito often takes to social media to discuss projects he worked on, including the Silent Hill series. For example in February 2024, he confirmed he designed monsters for Silent Hill: The Short Message. He also noted he didn’t contribute to the Return to Silent Hill movie. However, we will see his work again soon. The artist did return for the remake handled by Bloober Team and Konami.

The Silent Hill 2 remake will come to the PS5 and Windows PC worldwide on October 8, 2024. You can play the original game on the PS2, Xbox, and PC, as well as in Silent Hill HD Collection on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Pre-orders for the figure are now open and will remain available until September 25, 2024. The Nendoroid is priced at ¥6,900 in the Japanese and is expected to ship in January 2025, while the US store is selling it for $41.99 and targeting a Q2 2025 release window.

However, Bloober is the primary developer behind it this time, rather than Konami direct.

SDCC Silent Hill Figures Are Sakura Head, Robbie the Rabbit

At SDCC 2024, Gecco brought a number of Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Short Message figures of characters like the Shiba Inu dog, Robbie the Rabbit, and Sakura Head. While the Dog End bank and Sakura Head will be out in 2024, the various Robbie the Rabbit ones won’t show up until 2025.

This is the latest appearance of some items Konami first announced back in May 2024. First, here’s the latest look at the Inu-End Scale Coin Bank Statue. Gecco’s photos show it from multiple angles and highlight where James and Maria are on the dog’s map. As a reminder, it will cost 32,000 yen (~$208) and launch in December 2024.

Next, two photos of the Silent Hill: The Short Messages Sakura Head figure appeared. This is the 1/6 figure coming out in November 2024. Gecco noted this prototype of the 54,780 yen (~$357) figure came straight from the factory. One of the photos is taken from the side, to offer a better look at the fence and base.

Of all the Silent Hill items on display at Gecco’s booth, the company shared the most photos of the Robbie the Rabbit prototypes. There will be six of them launching in 2025. The Mini Pink and Blue Set, which features both mascots wielding Stick of Princess Heart wands, will only be at the Sweet Factory Souvenir Shop. All of the new rabbits will come with at least one weapon pulled from Silent Hill 3. The black one has a Beam Saber, the blue NEO figure gets a Yellow Chainsaw, the pink NEO one could hold either a Memory of Alessa Knife or Silver Pipe, and the red one wields a Great Knife.

In 2020, other Robbie the Rabbit styles originally appeared.

Silent Hill 2 Remake will come out on October 8, 2024 for the PS5 and Windows PC. Silent Hill: The Short Message is out now on the PS5. The Silent Hill 2 Inu-End Coin Bank Statue launches in December 2024, the Silent Hill: The Short Message Sakura Head figure will appear in November 2024, and the Silent Hill 3 new Robbie the Rabbit figures launch in 2025.

silent hill 2 mira the dog mask

The official Silent Hill Twitter (X) has shown off how the pre-order Mira the Dog mask you can wear in Silent Hill 2 looks during cutscenes . As a reminder, you can get Mira the Dog and Pyramid Head, with Robbie the Rabbit being a PS5 exclusive.

A video on the Silent Hill 2 shows how the masks look in-game, with the Mira the Dog mask as an example. It shows James looking into a bathroom mirror—a scene that is one of the more iconic moments from the game. However, it’s hard to see his expression due to the giant, silly Mira the Dog mask he’s wearing on his head.

As mentioned earlier, the three masks that’ll be in the game at launch include masks of Pyramid Head and Robbie the Rabbit. The Mira the Dog mask is for people who pre-order the Standard Edition and the Robbie the Rabbit one will be for those who get the PS5 version. If you pre-order the Deluxe Edition, you can get Pyramid Head (as well as other goodies and early access to the game). Konami announced all of this during the May 30, 2024 Silent Hill Transmission stream. It’s unknown if Bloober Team will eventually release more cosmetic items like a different jacket or something after the game comes out.

Silent Hill 2 will come out on October 8, 2024 for the PS5 and Windows PC.
