Shueisha announced its newest Shonen Jump Plus manga series is Magical Girl and Narco Wars from Yu Nomiya and Meijimerou. It is available worldwide, with the English localization available via MangaPlus. The first chapter is available online to read for free. Note that this is a mature series with graphic elements, and it’s one of the darker new stories from Shueisha.

The title of Magical Girl and Narco Wars is pretty self-explanatory, as the manga follows a magical girl named Riri Hoshina who ends up helping an undercover officer named Akira Susui deal with a new drug epidemic that hit Japan. Things begin with Riri chasing down and defeating someone dealing Candy, a new drug that consists of some of the same ingredients as the treat and is packaged in that way to help slip under the radar. While undercover with the Fuyugiri Family in the Jinsei Clan, Akira attends a funeral and finds out many yakuza are being murdered in a mysterious manner by an unknown assailant. After a chance encounter, we learn that Riri is aware of him, and the two team up to go after Candy’s manufacturer and end that menace.

Shueisha frequently adds new manga series to the Shonen Jump lineup. For example, one of the last ones to appear ahead of this one was Nice Prison. As of May 5, 2025, that is the 11th most popular series in the MangaPlus “hottest” list. Another series that’s fairly new is Love is Overkill. The first volume of that just launched in Japan in May 2025. 

The first chapter of the new Shonen Jump manga Magical Girl and Narco Wars is available worldwide, and chapter 2 will debut on May 12, 2025.

Shueisha announced a new manga series called Nice Prison is now available in Weekly Shonen Jump. The first chapter debuted on April 20, 2025. It’s from Tatsuya Suganuma, who hasn’t worked on too many series beyond a four-koma original just yet. It is available in English via both MangaPlus and Viz Media.

Nice Prison stars Horo Mitsuboshi, who has been a Super Model Prisoner at Nobana-shi Prison for three years. He’s used as an example to others to follow rules, stay in line, and serve their time peacefully. He “works” alongside Tera Adachi, a newly appointed guard at the prison who is following in her father’s footsteps. However, she finds all of the guards there are terrible at her job, and the prisoners are doing ridiculous things like recreating the upside-down Spider-Man kiss, blowing bubbles, treating guards like they’re dogs having hair cuts at a groomer, and doing aerial yoga. It’s then that Horo appears and everyone suddenly falls in line. 

Mitsuboshi then confirms his mom gave birth to him in prison. When he heard what happened to Nobana-shi, he decided to purposely get himself arrested and thrown in there to make it a better place. After learning what caused the facility to go downhill, Mitsuboshi and Adachi head out to face the major criminal behind the problems.

The first chapter of Nice Prison is available now, and the second chapter of the new Weekly Shonen Jump manga will debut on April 27, 2025. The first three chapters will be available for free, as will the six latest chapters according to MangaPlus.

Shueisha pretty frequently releases JUMPMV music videos featuring Shonen Jump anime and manga series and popular or related songs on the official YouTube channel for the line, and the latest one is an Aqua Timez track for Bleach. This comes ahead of a season 4 of the Thousand-Year Blood War anime adaptation.

The song for this Bleach music video is “Oldrose.” It features major characters like Ichigo, Orihime, Chad, Uryu, and Rukia. Footage from early in the anime adaptation, as well as segments from later arcs, all appear. This is interspersed with real-world footage of locations and Bleach imagery not taken from the show.

Aqua Timez is well known for its Bleach theme songs, though this is the first one in quite some time. That’s due to the group breaking up in 2018. However, it reunited and is active again as of 2025. The songs “Alones,” “Mask,” “Sen no Yoru o Koete,” and “Velonica” were previously used for the manga and anime series.  

In fact, Shueisha released another Bleach music video with the Aqua Timez song “Velonica” in 2024. You can watch that below:

The Bleach anime adaptations, including Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, are streaming on on Disney+ and Hulu. Viz Media handles the manga series outside of Japan. The most recent game in the series is Bleach Rebirth of Souls, and it is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Consumers will be able to get mini versions of Shonen Jump manga in various gachapon machines in Japan. This includes the likes of One Piece, Witch Watch, Kagurabachi, Blue Box, and Me and Roboco. The Shonen Jump mini manga gachapon capsules will appear in the second half of March 2025.

Consumers can test their luck for 500 yen (or around $3) to obtain one of six mini manga. As mentioned previously, this line-up will include One Piece, Witch Watch, Kagurabachi, Blue Box, and Me and Roboco. Bandai Namco will handle distribution of these gachapon capsules, as they will be available to obtain through the official Bandai Namco gachapon store locations. According to the official product pages, these mini manga can, in fact, be opened and will have printed pages inside.

For those looking to expand their collection of One Piece merchandise, outside of the aforementioned mini manga, Japanese skincare brand Sekkisei is set to release a line of products featuring characters from the series. The items are immediately available to purchase, but are a release limited to Japan.

The Shonen Jump mini manga gachapon will be available to obtain for 500 yen through participating machines at Bandai Namco gachapon locations. It will include the likes of One Piece and Witch Watch, and will appear in late March 2025. These items are exclusive to Japan.

Shonen Jump announced a new manga series called Love is Overkill is available via Shonen Jump+. It is also being released worldwide. The first chapter is available in English on MangaPlus now. 

The series is by Astra Ashima, whose previous series was Handsome Must Die from Shonen Jump+. S’More Milwalky is a doctor, with her primary specialty being a mix of research and mortuary work. As the series begins, she’s working as a mortician at Deslike Prison. She laments the fact that she’s single and alone. After an incredibly violent and deadly assassin named Painkiller is transferred to the facility, she falls in love at first sight due to his good looks. 

After Painkiller’s executed for his many, many murders, he winds up in S’More’s morgue. As she fixes his body up, even giving him a manicure and brushing his hair, she also uses a secret drug she developed to revive his dead skin and make him look better. However, this has an unintended side effect, which leads to S’More and Painkiller’s new “relationship" beginning.

Even though 2025 is still “young,” this isn’t the first new manga series to debut in Shonen Jump. The earliest one was Waiting for the Sunlight. The first chapter of that appeared on January 1, 2025. It’s at five chapters as of February 24, 2025, and the next one is due to appear on February 26, 2025. 

The first chapter of the Love is Overkill manga is available now, and the next new one will appear in Shonen Jump and via MangaPlus on March 3, 2025.

Shogakukan-Shueisha Production announced that its official Shonen Jump channel on YouTube has sured two million followers. The company group decided to celebrate the milestone by holding the Weekly Shonen Jump Anime Festival, where it will gradually publish episodes of anime adaptations from its manga titles for free temporarily on the channel.

The company has provided a list of titles it will publish anime episodes of on YouTube during the celebratory event. It includes series like Gintama, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Bleach, with the the Bleach episodes focusing on the currently running Thousand Year Blood War arc adaptation.

The festival immediately begins on February 20, 2025, with the publications of the first two episodes from the first season of Haikyu!! However, we suspect the videos are actually geo-locked to Japan only, as we do not spot the said videos on the channel.

Here is the list of anime episodes set to air on the channel in Japan up until March 2025:

• Haikyu!! - First 13 episodes from Season 1 starting from February 20, 2025
• Mission: Yozakura Family - First 8 episodes from Season 1 starting from February 21, 2025

Shueisha announced and started the run of the first new Shonen Jump manga series of 2025, and it is Waiting for the Sunlight. It is available via Shonen Jump+ and is being released in Japanese and English. The first chapter is available to read on MangaPlus worldwide for free.

Waiting for the Sunlight is a historical manga from Haruka Nanase, as the new Shonen Jump series is set during World War II. The official site even noted the 80th anniversary of the day that war falls this year. (It ended on September 2, 1945.) The story is set in Nagano, Japan, during 1941. The tale begins with a family visiting an 80th Anniversary Peace Memorial Exhibition and a child visiting with his family and seeing ceramic weapons made by students. It lingers on a weapon made by a fourth grader named Yoko Matsubara. It then flashes back to Yoko as a child, talking to a tanuki statue that ended up at that exhibit, about how she’ll be making items at Oyama Ceramics.

Once Yoko ends up at Oyama Ceramics, which is run by her friend Yuki’s family, she learns her new master won’t be making Shigaraki vases and tanuki statues anymore. Because of World War II, he’s instead making kitchen utensils to replace iron ones for the war effort. She also learns her master’s son Junpei is going to take the exam to enlist in the Imperial Army. 

It’s at that point that we also learn Yoko and her family are already suffering due to the war. Her father died in Manchuria, and her other died recently. Now she lives with her uncle, grandma, and older cousin Shizuko. The first chapter also suggests things will get harder, as sanctions from America come in and the war starts in earnest.

Chapter 1 of Waiting for the Sunlight is available via Shonen Jump now, and the next new chapter of the manga will debut on January 8, 2025. Two of the last additions in 2025 were the one-shots Pretty Guardian Stress Magical Girl and Wanted Police Officer.

Shueisha’s new Shonen Jump+ magical girl manga one shot story by Black Pink artist is called Pretty Guardian Stress. The story focuses on the reality of the life of a heroine and her encounter with a young girl more accustomed to traditional magical girls. The full story dropped on MangaPlus on December 3, 2024 and is free-to-read. 

Pretty Guardian Stress begins with a kaiju attacking a city. A magical girl known as Pretty Guardian Aika steps up to stop them. However, while her initial introduction seems like the typical poppy and perky one you’d expect from that kind of heroine, she quickly drops the act. She then gives the monster the finger, blames them for her having to do that job, and brutally beats the creature up. However, a magical girl-loving young girl named Mei hears the commotion, comes over, stops Aika from killing the monster’s baby, and then ends up getting a firsthand look at what life as a heroine is really like. This includes the toll it takes on the woman who has to perform that job.

Miyaumi Tomotaka is known for only one other work so far. That’s the one shot manga known as Black Pink, which also appeared in Shonen Jump+. It isn’t available through MangaPlus, though the original Japanese is version is still online. That debuted in 2022 and followed an assassin named Momo who just wants to marry her boyfriend. That story was a Monthly Rookie Grand Prix winner at the time, winning the silver award.

There have been a number of full series recently launching in Shonen Jump. In the middle of November 2024, Bug Ego and Syd Craft started their runs. Drama Queen also debuted on December 1, 2024.

The Pretty Guardian Stress one shot manga is available to read now worldwide, and it is unknown if it could end up spinning off eventually to a full magical girl series.

MangaPlus and Viz Media added two new Shonen Jump manga series, which are Bug Ego and Syd Craft: Love is a Mystery. Syd Craft debuted first on MangaPlus and Viz Media, as its first chapter launched on November 17, 2024. Bug Ego debuted on MangaPlus and Viz Media on November 18, 2024, with four chapters available on each service. 

Bug Ego is interesting, as it is a series from One Punch Man’s One and Shinobuna: Chiyo-chan creator Kiyoto Shitara. Makoto Hitsujiya and Takehiro Kokudo are classmates. Hitsujiya just transferred in and is teaching Kokudo “hacks” to get by, since he isn’t well established and is sometimes bullied. In return, Kokudo starts teaching Hitsujiya about hacks that influence reality. However, we also get to see the consequences that can come from using them. 

Meanwhile, Taishi Tsutsui worked on series like We Never Learn, Steins;Gate: Hiyoku Renri no Sweets Honey, and Esprit before the new Shonen Jump manga Syd Craft. As the title suggests, it is about Syd. He’s considered a “great detective.” When the first chapter starts, we see him solving a crime. However, once Syd is alone in his office, we realize the women he discovered was the murderer was also someone he had a crush on, and he’s heartbroken that the dinner invite was just an alibi. He doesn’t want to be a detective, but everyone around him ends up involved in situations that result in him discovering or dealing with terrible situations. Other major characters introduced include his assistant Elio Evelyn and rival, which is is the police department’s Inspector Souffle Flamberry. 

Prior to these new reveals, one of the last new series to Shonen Jump were Shinobi Undercoverand Ichi the Witch. Both of those debuted in September 2024.  

The next new chapter of Bug Ego will appear via these platforms that share Shonen Jump series on December 18, 2024, and the next chapter of Syd Craft debuts on November 24, 2024.

Chapter 182 of the Chainsaw Man manga ends with a cliffhanger that potentially signals the return of two characters from the Public Safety Saga part of the story. The teaser for the return of the two familiar Chainsaw Man characters comes on page 16 of the new chapter. After the current events involving Denji and Asa Mitaka, the story shifts to the two individuals. We only get to see them from behind as they’re heading to an undisclosed location.

We still have quite some time to wait before the physical copies of the Chainsaw Man manga catch up to the current chapters like 182 and 183 in Shonen Jump. The most recently released volume is 16, and that covers chapters 134-143. That’s the Chainsaw Man Church arc in the Academy Saga. Volume 17 will come out on January 7, 2025, and that will cover chapters 144-153. 

Chapter 182 of the Chainsaw Man manga is available worldwide now, and we can read chapter 183 on MangaPlus and Viz Media on November 12, 2024. Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.

Shonen Jump announced via the official One Piece twitter , the debut of two new volumes in its One Piece JUMP Remix series, focusing on Tony Tony Chopper and Nico Robin. These volumes are available for purchase in Japanese retail stores and online as of October 4th, 2024. Each volume also includes themed stickers and a poster.

The JUMP Remix series act as re-edits of each of straw-hat crew's storylines. The series stared with Monkey D. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji, with releases spanning from July to September 2024 this past year. Future entries to the remix series include the remaining , Franky and Brook.

In related news, Viz Media has announced that it will release One Piece: Heroines, an original novel featuring short stories about the women of the One Piece universe, in English. The novel, originally written by Jun Esaka, highlights characters like Nami, Perona, Robin, and Vivi. 

The Robin and Tony Tony Chopper JUMP Remix books are available in Japan as of October 4, 2024. The original One Piece manga is released by Viz Media, while the anime is available on Crunchyroll, and the live-action series can be streamed on Netflix.

The story of Jujutsu Kaisen is over, as the final manga ending chapter 271 brought up the end of the series. People can now read it in English worldwide via sites like MangaPlus and Viz Media. Both sites offer chapters 1-3 and chapters 269-271 for free. However, you must pay to read chapters 4-268.

For those who haven’t been keeping up, the last few chapters not only concluded the series as a whole, but offers resolution for the Shinjuku Showdown arc of the story. As such, chapters 270 and 271 act as more of an epilogue. We get an idea of what Yuji Itadori and his allies will be doing going forward, now that the threats present throughout the mainline series are absent. The tone is decidedly lighter than other chapters over the past few months. 

As for when we’ll see the physical release of the final Jujutsu Kaisen manga volume, the ending for it is uncertain. Viz Media’s last released volume was 23, which debuted on August 20, 2024. That covers chapters 200-208. Volume 24 will launch on December 10, 2024. That covers chapters 209 through 217. The next volume to appear in Japan will be 28. It compiles chapters 246-254, and people there will see it on October 4, 2024. 

We should learn more about what is next for creator Gege Akutami and the anime adaptations in the next few months. Shueisha already confirmed that the series will be at Jump Festa 2025 in December 2024. It will be at Jump Super Stage Red, alongside other staples like Chainsaw Man, My Hero Academia, One Piece, and Spy x Family.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is now finished as of chapter 271. there are no worldwide releases for the final volumes yet. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.

Ahead of the release of the final Jujutsu Kaisen manga chapter, leaker ryokutya reported that the manga series will see a "great announcement" appear on the Weekly Shonen Jump issue where the chapter will appear. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga series will reach its end with chapter 271 which will appear on issue #44 of the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on September 30, 2024. In addition to the new announcement, the final chapter will reportedly feature color pages.

However, Blue Box will be on the front cover of the magazine ahead of the premiere of its anime adaptation. In addition, a Jujutsu Kaisen appendix postcard will be included and people buying a copy of the Shonen Jump issue #44 will be able to apply for a digital manuscript of the final manga chapter.

Season 3 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series has been confirmed to be in production, and it will adapt the Culling Game Arc. There is no official release date for the new season, but it can be expected to appear in 2025.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga series will end on September 30, 2024. Viz Media handles the English localization of the manga, and the anime series is readily available on Crunchyroll.
