Atlus and Sega announced that the Puella Magi Madoka Magica SMT Liberation Dx2 event is now live until July 24, 2024, bringing Madoka Kaname, Homura Akemi, and the Witch Walpurgisnacht to the game. This is tied to the new, fourth Madoka Magica movie Walpurgisnacht: Rising, which is due to appear in 2024.

First, there are events tied to Madoka Magica showing up in the game. One is a campaign. That started alongside the event on July 11, 2024. If people for ten days total, they get 50 Madoka Magica Summon Files for the gacha and five Time-limited Monster Dews to recover stamina. In addition, "The power of hope, and a cursed destiny..." two-part event is now running, with Part 1 going until July 17, 2024. Part 2 will last July 17-24, 2024. Going through quests and missions during it can net you Auto-Turning Cogs for the event exchange. There are also special Event Genome Cubes with special Skills to earn and other rewards for completing quests like Madoka Magica Summon Files or the An Existence that Negates All title. 

As for the three Madoka Magica SMT Liberation Dx2 event characters, all of them are Grade 90 five-stars. Some of Madoka’s highlighted abilities are the ive unique skill My Prayer, which is notable due to one of its effects giving all allies a 2,000HP Bulwark with Fortify while boosting the party’s attack and defense while the Bullwark is active. Her active unique skill It’ll Be All Right. Homura’s ive unique skill Time Traveler increases her Phys damage and adds Phys Pierce, increases her hit and critical hit rate, increases battle speed, adds Null Charm, and keeps her from dying from killing blows twice. Her active unique skill is called I’ll Finish Up Alone. Finally, Walpurgisnacht has the Play’s Editor ive unique skill that, among other things, gives her a Bulwark that is 100% of her HP and decreases damage by 100% when it is active. Her active unique skill is called Great Calamity.

Anime crossovers aren’t uncommon for SMT Liberation Dx2. Berserkand Ghost in the Shellboth appeared in the game.

The Shin Megami Tensei mobile RPG SMT Liberation Dx2 will get a crossover event with the Evangelion franchise that will allow players to summon two angels and the EVA Unit-01 as demons. The event is called "Demons of the Imaginary" and will run July 13-26, 2023. Players will have until August 3, 2023 to redeem their earned currencies in the event shop.

The event will consist of two halves, with the second unlocking on July 19, 2023. As players complete event quests, they will earn Decayed Feathers and unlock further Bonus and Challenge quests. Rewards can be exchanged for Decayed Feathers at the event shop, with more being awarded for accumulating enough feathers or reaching high enough rankings. Rewards include skill genomes, transcend stones for the event characters and summon files to be used in the game's gacha.

The new characters include the five-star Unit-01: Dx2 type, which is a Deity unit focused on dealing Dark type damage. Successfully landing Unit-01's unique skill Demonic Sword,increases the entire party's ATK, DEF and EV/AC by 20% for a turn. The other characters are the 6th and 10th Angels, which are both Divine type units. The 6th Angel is able to do more Light damage when it has a bulwark and can grant party the ability to reflect a single magic attack. The 10th Angel meanwhile can deal damage based on its own max HP and ignore death prevention skills. These characters cannot be obtained through fusion, karma summoning or Talking and are unable to be used as fusion material.

The game has previously held collabs with Sonic the Hedgehog and Berserk, allowing players to summon characters like Mozguz, Skull Knight and Sonic himself as demons.

People can add Sonic the Hedgehog as a “demon” in the mobile Shin Megami Tensei game SMT Liberation DX2. A Sonic Step-Up Summon banner is available in the game until July 7, 2021. People who spend Gems, the in-game currency, on it can get the four-star unit.

After the first step, which only costs 500 Gems, each of the nine following steps will guarantee you one Sonic in your pull. Steps two through ten each cost 1,000 Gems. For each pull, you get 10 summoned demons and 20 Parchment Pieces.

The announcement also included details about what Sonic is like as an ally in SMT Liberation DX2. He is a “Speedster,” which means battle speed is increased by 50% for him. He also has the unique ive Supersonic Hedgehog, which lets him survive a deadly attack with 1 HP, starts a chain effect, and makes his next physical attack a critical hit. You can also use 5MP to make him perform a Spin Dash to deal four-hits of physical damage to a random group of enemies. It gets the Force Pierce effect if Might is in effect. Sonic also resists wind (Garu) elemental attacks.

This is the second major crossover event for SMT Liberation DX2 in 2021. Back in March 2021, Berserk characters appeared in the game.

Berserk is coming back to SMT Liberation DX2. A new crossover event will be held in the mobile game starting on March 3, 2021. Three characters from the series will be added this time, and everyone will get Zodd for free. An official website going over the event is now open.

The three Berserk characters being added this time are a new version of Guts, Griffith, and Zodd. Zodd will be the free five-star character everyone gets for logging in.

Sega also held a February 24, 2021 livestream presentation to go over the new event.

The original Berserk SMT Liberation DX2 event debuted in May 2020. It added Guts, Schierke, Skull Knight, and Mozgus as five-star characters. All four will return for this new crossover.

This is the second major collaboration event to appear in-game in the past few months. Back in December 2020, a Ghost in the Shell event added characters like Motoko Kusanagi and a Tachikoma to the game.

SMT Liberation DX2 is available for Android and Apple iOS devices. The Berserk anime can be watched on Crunchyroll and Funimation. The latest Berserk event will run in-game between March 3-17, 2021.

Major Motoko Kusanagi has a new assignment, and it involves a ton of demons. A Ghost in the Shell SMT Liberation Dx2 event will begin on December 17, 2020. Designed to celebrate Netflix’s Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 adaptation, it will bring an original story, Motoko, and Tachikomas into the game.

After the app’s update, people will be able to go through “Ghost of Cyberspace.” The storyline will follow Public Security Section 9 as they deal with demons, with other characters from the series making cameo appearances based on the trailer for the event. Voice actors from Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will reprise their roles, with Atsuko Tanaka returning as Motoko and Sakiko Tamagawa appearing as Tachikoma.

People will be able to unlock both Motoko and the Tachikoma. The Major will be a five-star character, while the Tachikomas you earn from the event and by logging in will both be four-star characters.

Once again, a Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2 Bayonetta collaboration has appeared. This time, it’s all about celebrating Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle. But while that crossover is in effect until March 5, 2020, the next is waiting in the wings and will take Berserk into the world of Shin Megami Tensei.

The SMT Liberation Dx2 Bayonetta event is a way to get Bayonetta and Jeanne on your roster and take on some new quests. Both Bayonetta and Jeanne are five-star, light and dark-resistant characters returning from the event held in February 2019. However, they are slightly rebalanced for this appearance. Also, each one now has the Spirit Merge skill. Originally, Bayonetta came with Mortal Jihad, Madama Stomp, and Gomorrah (B), while Jeanne had Hades Blast, Madama Uppercut, and Gomorrah (J).

As for the SMT Liberation Dx2 Berserk crossover, that is set for later in 2020. Guts appears on the teaser banner for the event.

In addition to Bayonetta, other series have come into SMT Liberation Dx2. For example, in March 2019 Dante, Nero, and V, from Devil May Cry 5, all showed up for a while.

Last month Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 had a crossover with Bayonetta, and this month starting on the 14th is one with Capcom’s Devil May Cry 5 that adds the stylish devil hunters Nero, Dante, And V to the mix.

Before the event kicks off, there’s a campaign and event for fans to receive a 4★ Dante and more based on the number of likes the designated post from its official Facebook page gets.

Players will have until March 14, 2019 at 12:00am PST when the event kicks off to like the post for the rewards.

Additionally, starting March 7 through March 20, there will be a Countdown Bonus that includes a Special Summon File for a guaranteed 4★ demon and a Yasta Mirror 5★ that can be used for demon Evolve.

Dante greets any and all challengers with a signature smile on his face. At the behest of a client, Dante jumps back into the fray against demonic forces.

V – The Mysterious One

Book and cane in hand, this slender man appears covered in impressive tattoos. Before chaos fell upon Red Grave City, he sought out Dante through the information broker Morrison and tasked him to subdue a certain demon. V lacks the power to fight himself, instead relying on three demon familiars to take the offensive in battle.

Atlus and Sega teased last month that Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 has a big date coming, and it is with none other than Bayonetta, who is set to make her Shin Megami Tensei debut on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2019.

While the Bayonetta crossover event starts on February 14, 2019, Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 began a special 7-day event as a countdown.

Through February 13, players are greeted with 7 days of bonuses for the “Countdown to Bayonetta Bonus.”

Players had until February 14 to meet its Countdown Rewards Campaign by interacting on social media, but the goal of 20,000 has already been met so players will receive Bayonetta when the event kicks off.

Bayonetta

A witch possessing magical powers, Bayonetta was discovered sealed away in a coffin at the bottom of a lake 20 years ago. With almost no memories of her previous life, the one thing she re is her mission to exterminate the Angels. Currently working with undertaker-cum-informant Enzo, she hates cockroaches and cry babies. The name “Bayonetta” was given to her by Rodin, owner of “The Gates of Hell.”

Jeanne

Like Bayonetta, Jeanne is also an Umbra Witch and a survivor of the witch hunts that occurred 500 years ago. With abilities and skills similar to Bayonetta, she is adept at performing Wicked Weaves and summoning the Infernal Demon Gomorrah, making her a worthy rival.

Beloved

A powerful Angel, tasked with vanquishing the enemies of Paradiso. With its superior combat abilities and stopping power, it has faced off against Bayonetta many times in the past.

Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 is available on mobile devices worldwide. It is quite a big deal! The game attempts to bring what people enjoy about the RPG series to mobile devices. Moreover, it is doing so with a free-to-play model for the first time. The good news is, it is mostly well executed! Sure, there are some social elements shoved in, like an in-game chat with strangers that can be turned off and demon compendium commentary, but it does try to offer the same element of choice, integration of real-world problems, and array of tactical options depending on which creatures you decide to recruit, train, and fuse.

in Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, where people had a demon summoning app on their DS-like systems? Well, something similar is happening here. You end up becoming a Devil er (Dx2), thanks to an app on your smartphone. This means you are caught up in a fight between two factions, the good Liberators and bad Acolytes. Acolytes are using demons to hatch unpleasant schemes with demons that include using viral, impromptu dance parties and drug-related VR experiences. It’s fine. Certainly, the story is not as enthralling or well executed as Persona 4, but it tries. If you do not care for it, there is always an option to skip it.

The attempt to offer a sense of choice and direction is also irable. In many of these Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 story segments, the game will allow you to respond to the other characters. These replies can be lawful or chaotic. The effects of such decisions are not always immediate, which might make it seem sometimes like you are doing nothing at all beyond voicing an opinion, but I appreciated the option. At least it allowed me to feel like I had some agency when dealing with characters I disliked, like Rika.

Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 looks fantastic, which is another point in its favor. The character models for all of its demons are detailed, give us a chance to see them in new ways, and clearly had a lot of care put in to keep them true to the 2D art we have seen in many of the console and handheld games. The battles are my favorite part, since we get to see these creatures in front of us as rounds begin, then move to execute their attacks. They are the sorts of assets you would like to see reused in future games, and considering what has happened with older demon designs being recycled for titles, I hope that they are.

Of course, the Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 battles are also fun because they remain true to everything Shin Megami Tensei is about. When you head into a fight, you can have up to five demons with you. Four are your own, with you able to bring in a set equipped to yourself or one of your allies, and the fifth is a friend’s creature. Each excursion requires stamina, which is an unfortunate reality for a free-to-play such as this. Also, eventually you will reach a point where you will have to fuse or level grind to keep making progress. But when you can just battle for the sake of it, it taps into everything right about the process.

Fights are turn-based, with each of your demons and each of the opposing demons in every wave getting one attack each round. That is, unless you hit a weakness. Then, you only use up half of your in-round turn and can earn more turns to attack. Your opponents’ weaknesses are shown when targeted, provided you have fought and found them before. The creatures in your party have skills that they can get from transferring and awakening. Everyone has elemental strengths and weaknesses. It just flows well and works. I especially like how these make you think more critically about skill usage, as characters have a limited amount of MP and fights happen one-after-another in each story segment. It might mean you have to consider getting through earlier rounds quickly and unscathed, but then risk a harder fight later with no MP.

Even getting and improving demons rings true to Shin Megami Tensei’s roots. You can speak with demons in battle, if a prompt appears. Right answers and giving in to their demands gives you a chance at adding them to your party. When I played, an event was on that made them more willing to speak to me, which was handy and I hope happens with some regularity. They can be fused at the Church of False Gods, with costs hovering around cheap and mostly manageable initially, but eventually having expected costs when greater demons come into play. You can pay in-game currency to summon, with some daily log-in rewards making it easier to test the RNG gods.

The only times I didn’t appreciate what Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 was trying to do is when it was going too over the top. It attempts to be “hip” with its characters. In so doing, it turns them into caricatures, rather than people I wanted to spend time with or even hear speak. The two worst examples are the ones you are confronted with the moment you begin playing the game. Different peoples’ experience may vary, but I could not stand Megakin and Rika. With Megakin, every instance where he is trying to offer exposition feels disingenuous. Everything about him annoyed me, from his closing one of his “shows” by talking about the latest fidget spinners, to the rambling spiels he would give when I opened the app each day.

With Rika, we have a character who could have been interesting, if handled tactfully. In the first one or two missions, she comes across as the more chaotic character of the two. I expected her to be to Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 what Jimenez is to Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. Unfortunately, she quickly devolves into a character who seems obsessed with only one thing: guns. Whenever she has an opportunity for the fixation to shine through, it does. Ready to start the next leg of the story mission? She’s disappointed since it is “supposed to be air gun maintenance day.” Visiting a victim of a case involving illegal drugs? Rika tactlessly says, “In gun it would be like she JUST got shot, huh?” Somebody says something that sets her off? She pulls a gun on him. At best, it is lazy storytelling. At worst, it comes across as tone deaf in an era where school shootings are a serious concern in the United States.

Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 is a game that can have its moments. It certainly does sample more than a few Shin Megami Tensei hallmarks and tries to work with them. The battle system especially is enjoyable, and I felt demon negotiations and fusions were handled well. I did not care for some of the characters, which is unfortunate since the ones that bothered me most appeared so frequently. (Fewer pop-ups trying to get me to spend money would have been appreciated too.) Still, it is something Shin Megami Tensei fans may want to try for free, if only to see the new demon character models and maybe use the AR functionality to see those characters in the real-world.

In the world of Shin Megami Tensei Liberation Dx2, players the Liberators after becoming a Devil er, a person capable of summoning demons with a smartphone. Their goal is to fight against the Acolytes, an opposing group of Devil ers with dishonorable intents. This means people need to head into Aura Gate dungeons, recruit demons and participate in Dx2 Duels to protect the innocent.

In-app purchases are available and optional. The cheapest are a $3.99 Mega Gem Pack I and $4.99 Beginner’s Pack, though a $47.99 Special Launch Pack and $79.99 2,900 Gem Pack are available.
