From January 7, 2025, Aniplex will stream an episode of Puella Magi Madoka Magica every week for free. It will only stream each episode once, so it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be able to catch it via archives if you miss the stream.

The reason why Aniplex will start from January 7, 2025 is to match up with the original broadcast date of the anime. Back when Puella Magi Madoka Magica first started airing in 2011, it started on January 7. You’ll be able to catch the streams every Tuesday from 9:00 PM JST. That would convert to 4:00 AM PDT/7:00 AM EDT. Since this will be an Aniplex Japan stream, it’s highly unlikely that there will be any subtitles other than Japanese.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a  psychological thriller magical girl anime from Shaft and written by Gen Urobuchi, who also worked on Fate/Zero and Song of Saya. The plot follows Madoka Kaname, an ordinary girl, who encounters a bizarre animal named Kyubey while with her best friend Sayaka Miki. Kyubey turns out to be a creature that can form contracts with girls and turn them into magical girls to fight against witches. However, Kyubey’s contract is a lot more sinister than it seems. The show was highly popular for its subversive nature and visuals, and the series is still going on today in the form of movies.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is readily available on streaming services like Crunchyroll, and Aniplex will start streaming it from January 7, 2025.

A new trailer for Puella Magi Madoka Magica Walpurgisnacht Rising has come out, with Homura as the star of the show this time. Technically, she always is, but this trailer includes a few more scenes that are from Homura’s point of view.

There are some new scenes, such as one of Madoka and all of the other versions of her looking down at something. There’s also one of a lizard running into Homura before wings burst out of her back. Yet another new shot is one of Mami wrapping herself up in her ribbons, seemingly while in the midst of battle. As per usual with Madoka Magica, the latest trailer for the movie is a little difficult to comprehend. But surely, when we see them in the theater, it’ll all make sense.

Walpurgisnacht Rising will be the newest movie for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise, and it’ll canonically take place after Rebellion. Aniplex and SHAFT originally announced the movie back in April 2021 as part of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica 10th anniversary. Though there was radio silence for a few years since that announcement, there have been a lot of trailers and news for the movie in 2024 as we approach its release window.

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica series is one of the most beloved pieces of magical girl media in existence. Its dark and often surprisingly twisted concept is the ultimate deconstruction of the genre. The first spin-off of Madoka Magica came in the form of a manga. It follows the magical girl Kazumi in her own side story. There are some goofy and weird elements to this series, but it lands decently enough as a whole. It is pretty short, too, with only a few volumes to read. It tells a succinct and fascinating enough tale about magical girls and witches.

If you want the best manga side story of this series, Oriko is the one to pick up. Once again, it centers on a new magical girl the series hasn’t seen before. At the same time, though, it brings back some fan-favorite characters like Mami, who tragically didn’t get as much screen time as they deserved in the original series.

If you don’t mind playing in Japanese (or using a fan translation), there is a video game adaptation of Madoka Magica for the PSP. It interestingly enough plays as a dungeon crawler RPG-meets-visual novel. This is a must-play for fans of the series, as it has routes for all of the main magical girls, including ones like Homura, Mami, and Sayaka. You can even change the fates of some of them and see extra story content.

Lotte will have a collaboration with Shaft, releasing limited-time Puella Magi Madoka Magica versions of its Koala’s March snacks. They’re only available online and purchasing the entire set will get you a free clear file. [Thanks, Oricon!]

There are two versions of the boxes. One version uses stills from the anime, such as the scene of Madoka lying on the grass from the opening or Sayaka’s heroic pose after she first appears as a magical girl. The second version uses promotional images of the girls, but they all have the signature ears and nose of the Koala’s March mascot.

As mentioned earlier, the Puella Magi Madoka Magica Koala’s March snacks (officially called Madoka Magica's March) won’t be in physical stores. You can only purchase them via the Lotte Online Shop from October 3, 2024. During the first production run of Madoka Magica's March, Lotte will sell 3500 limited-time sets that’ll come with all ten designs, as well as an original clear file. The front of the file will show the girls looking like their normal selves, and then the back will show them with the koala ears and noses. As for the cost, it'll be about 3980 JPY or $27.20 and the whole thing will come in a special box depicting the five main girls.

This collaboration seems to be part of the 40th anniversary campaign for Koala’s March. Koala’s March is a bite-sized cookie that contains a sweet filling. The filling is usually sweet chocolate, but there have been variations such as the apple pie flavor for Hello Kitty or the more common strawberry. Puella Magi Madoka Magica will also be celebrating an anniversary, as the Walpurgisnacht Rising movie (originally announced as part of the 10th anniversary) will come out some time in 2025.

The first part of the Virgin Punk animation series from SHAFT and Yasuomi Umetsu is Clockwork Girl. A trailer for it has appeared on the Virgin Punk X (formerly known as Twitter) channel.

Clockwork Girl takes place in the future and it focuses on a girl escaping a facility. Assassins are in pursuit of her, and she evades them with her own fighting skills and mechanical enhancements. While the main staff appear in the credits, there’s no information yet on the voice actors who’ll be in Clockwork Girl.

Virgin Punk is a collaboration between SHAFT and Yasuomi Umetsu. Umetsu is an animator, director, writer, and storyboard artist who’s worked on shows since 1981. He was the ending director and storyboard artist for the first two seasons of Bungo Stray Dogs, as well as Twin Star Exorcists. He was also the character designer for the infamous Dynamic Chord anime. As a director, he worked on Mezzo Forte, Kite, and Wizard Barristers, among others.

As for SHAFT, the company was founded in 1975, but became an animation studio several years later. It has a distinctive style and aesthetic thanks to the influence of “Team Shinbo,” including unique cuts and color contrasts. Some of the shows and movies it’s worked on include RWBY: Ice Queendom, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and the Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei series, among others.

Clockwork Girl, the first part of the Virgin Punk series, will debut in Japanese theaters in early Summer 2025.

Information has come out about the Steins;Gate and Monogatari crossover that the Steins;Gate X (formerly known as Twitter) teased on September 12, 2024. There will be three parts to the collaboration: a Tokyo Tower event, an Animax Cafe, and a pop-up shop.

This is part of the 15th anniversary for both series. The promotional art shows the characters of Steins;Gate wearing the same outfits as the Monogatari characters, and vice versa. Some of them are even posing like their counterparts.

As of the time of writing, there aren’t a lot of details about each part of the collaboration. The Animax Cafe and Tokyo Tower events will be in mid-October 2024. Meanwhile, the pop-up shop will be in mid-November 2024. More details on them will appear closer to the dates. It’s more than plausible that you’ll be able to buy merchandise of the characters wearing each other’s clothes.

Steins;Gate is a visual novel that’s part of the Science Adventure series. It focuses on the concept of time travel and parallel universes. The main character is Okabe “Okarin” Rintaro, an eccentric “mad scientist” who is capable of detecting changes between different timelines. As for the Monogatari series, it is a series of light novels that follow Koyomi Araragi, a former vampire and current high schooler. Thanks to his past experiences with the supernatural, he can help girls in his school and neighborhood with their own oddity-related (and personal) problems.

A new trailer has come out for Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising, which is also known as Walpurgis no Kaiten. The movie will come out in Winter 2025.

The trailer is quite short at around thirty seconds. It starts with Homura and Madoka dancing, before we get some shots of characters both new and old. There seems to be something wrong with the dancing Homura though, as her eyes are a different color than usual. There’s a quick shot of Sayaka with bandages all over her face, as well as someone cutting their arm with a knife, only for their blood to congeal into a dark blob. Though these scenes will surely make more sense in context, they’re rather confusing at the moment.

We can see two new characters who’ll be debuting in this movie. One girl has green hair and glasses, and she appears to be drinking tea with someone in a pond full of lotuses. The other girl has blonde hair in curly pigtails. We see her having fun with Nagisa in a ball pit, but there’s also a scene in which Kyubey is hanging out on her shoulder.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising will come out in Japan in Winter 2025. This movie will be a direct sequel to Rebellion, as it takes place in the new world Homura creates.

The release date for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime movie Walpurgisnacht: Rising has been delayed by a year to Winter 2025. The Aniplex production committee for the film announced that the delay is happening due to circumstances surrounding production, but offered no further details.

Additionally, the production committee issued an apology for the delay and promised to continue working hard to deliver an even better film than originally intended. A trailer for the new Walpurgisnacht: Rising anime movie featuring Homura appeared in late October 2024, and it revealed the former release window of Winter 2024.

The new Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime movie is a direct sequel to the previous film Rebellion, originally released over a decade ago in October 2013. The new anime movie was announced in April 2021 as part of the 10th anniversary project for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise, and will once again be animated by Shaft Animation Studio.

A new trailer for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten movie featuring Homura is now available on Aniplex’s YouTube channel. At just under two minutes long, there are only a few new scenes in the trailer that Aniplex hadn’t shown before.

The entire first third of the trailer focuses on Homura and her descent into villainy. There’s also a scene of Madoka facing off against what looks like a witch. It’s unclear if the witch has anything to do with Homura. Kyubey is also fairly prominent in this trailer, foreshadowing his return to the plot proper. The voices in the beginning of after Homura picks up the phone seem to plead for her to release a girl. It's unclear if this means Madoka (considering the end of Rebellion) or Homura herself (in the sense of she's trapped in her obsession with Madoka).

Aniplex and Shaft first announced Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten in 2021. The announcement was part of the 10th anniversary of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise. Ever since the beginning, we knew that it would be a direct continuation of Rebellion. Rebellion originally came out in 2013. It focused on Homura in the aftermath of Madoka’s wish at the end of the show. The movie starts with Homura in Mitakihara, defeating Nightmares instead of Witches. But when she finds that her reality conflicts with her memories, she realizes that she’s been trapped inside of a Witch’s barrier this whole time. 

The Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpugis no Kaiten movie will air in theaters in Japan some time in Winter 2024.

A trailer for Kizumonogatari: Koyomi Vamp is available on the official Aniplex YouTube channel. At a little under a minute long, it only really focuses on Koyomi and Kiss-Shot. This is a compilation film of the three Kizumonogatari movies. As such, it’s unlikely that there will be any new scenes. The Kizumonogatari film trilogy aired from 2016 to 2017 in Japanese theaters, and adapts the Kizumonogatari light novel, which came out in 2008. It serves as a prequel to Bakemonogatari, and shows Koyomi’s past with Meme and how he became a vampire.

The Monogatari series of light novels by Nisio Isin follows Koyomi Araragi, who is a high school student and part vampire. He uses his past experiences with aberrations to help his classmates when they get in trouble with one. While episodic in nature (with each arc focusing on a different girl and issue), the character development and relationship changes carry over as the story progresses.

The trailer is a minute and a half long. It starts with Homura’s past and her descent into darkness before focusing on the other magical girls. It appears to take place in the new version of the world that Homura created at the end of Rebellion. However, since the trailer almost completely focuses on Homura, it’s unclear if she will be a straight protagonist, a villain protagonist, or a straight villain in the film.

Aniplex and Shaft first announced the movie as part of the Madoka Magica franchise’s 10th anniversary. News of it first appeared in 2021. At the time though, there was not a lot of information on it outside of the fact that the movie will be a sequel to Rebellion.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Walpurgisnacht: Rising was originally announced on April 2021, as part of the 10th anniversary of the Madoka Magica franchise. A teaser trailer appeared alongside the announcement. However, there have been no news ever since its reveal. This will be the first time in over two years that new information about the movie will appear.

The new Puella Magi Madoka Magica movie Walpurgisnacht: Rising, will receive new information at the Aniplex Online Fest 2023. The event will be held in Japan on September 10, 2023.

A Blu-ray box, including the soundtrack, of Fate/Extra Last Encore will come out on December 14, 2022. It will include both the Japanese and English audio tracks, as well as English subtitles. This is a separate release from the existing Blu-ray box set, which does not come with the soundtrack. It will cost 27,500 JPY, which is approximately $199.35. [Thanks, Comic Natalie!]

Wada Arco, who provided the original character designs for the Fate/Extra continuity of works, drew the illustration for the box. There will also be two CDs in the soundtrack, with artwork from SHAFT, which is the animation studio behind Fate/Extra Last Encore. It will also include new remixes that were not in the original show. Additionally, Aniplex released two commercials – one for the Blu-ray box and one for the soundtrack – though you can only view them if you are in Japan.

Fate/Extra Last Encore is an animated spin-off of Fate/Extra, and it first aired in 2018. It follows Hakuno Kishinami (Atsushi Abe), who forms a contract with Saber (Sakura Tange) as Master and Servant in the Moon Holy Grail War. There are thirteen episodes in total. Akiyuki Shinbo of Puella Magi Madoka Magica directed the series.

The Blu-ray box and soundtrack of Fate/Extra Last Encore will be available from December 14, 2022.

The trailer, which is just over a minute long and is the third for RWBY: Ice Queendom, shows Ruby, Blake, and Yang on a mission to save Weiss from a dream world. She is in the dream world because a Nightmare has trapped her in it, and the only way to get her out is to go inside of her mind to defeat it. After Shion sends them in, there are a few shots of Weiss fighting Blake on the basis of Blake being a Faunus. This seems to be based on a similar conflict between the two characters in the original show.

Hiroyuki Asada also provided the end card for episode 3. Asada is the Japanese manga artist behind Tegami Bachi, or Letter Bee. According to Asada, he felt that Shion is similar to his usual art style, and thus drew her.

The official Twitter for RWBY ed a trailer for the anime adaptation of RWBY: Ice Queendom. From the trailer, it appears that it will follow the main continuity of the show. The Japanese cast will also reprise their roles, though it is unclear if there will be an English dub yet. It will come out in 2022.

Monty Oum of Rooster Teeth developed the original concept of RWBY the web animation. As for the anime, Gen Urobuchi of Puella Magi Madoka Magica is the concept writer, while Tow Ubukata of Fafner in the Azure is in charge of the script. Black Rock Shooter’s huke is the character designer, and SHAFT (also Puella Magi Madoka Magica) will animate the show.

Saori Hayami, Yoko Hikasa, Yu Shimamura, and Ami Koshimizu will reprise their roles as Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang, respectively. These four voiced the main characters in the Japanese version of the RWBY web animation. Hayami will also sing the ending song, which you can hear in the trailer.

RWBY: Ice Queendom will not be the only new piece of RWBY content that appears in 2022. WayForward, creator of the Shantae series, announced that it is working on RWBY: Arrowfell. RWBY: Arrowfell is an action platformer that will come out for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
