Actor Munetaka Aoki will play Majima in Like a Dragon: Yakuza, which will be a live-action adaptation of the first game. Majima, along with Kiryu and Nishiki, appear on a new key visual for the show.

Aoki debuted in 2002 and has appeared in numerous Japanese films and TV shows over the course of his career. Some of his roles include Sanosuke Sagara in Rurouni Kenshin, Benkei in Taira no Kiyomori, and Kiso Yoshinaka in The 13 Lords of the Shogun. He also appeared as Sosaku Tachibana in Godzilla Minus One. He is ing Ryoma Takeuchi (Kiryu) and Kento Kaku (Nishiki), who are the two leads of the show. We can expect to see cast information for characters like Kazama and Haruka as we get closer to the show’s premiere.

News for Like a Dragon: Yakuza first appeared earlier this year. As mentioned earlier, it will adapt the first game. Like in the game, it will jump between two eras—1995 and 2005—as it follows both Kiryu’s return to Kamurocho and, most likely, Nishiki’s descent into darkness. There will be six parts in total, with the first half appearing in October 2024. The second half will start streaming from November 1, 2024.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza will start airing on October 24, 2024. You’ll be able to watch it on Amazon Prime.

RGG Studio has announced Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which will be a Majima-focused spinoff in which he, like it says on the tin, becomes a pirate yakuza in Hawaii. Both physical and digital versions of the game are available for pre-order.

The official RGG Studio X (formerly known as Twitter) released a trailer for the game. It sets up the premise on the game, in which a rough-looking Majima awakes on a beach near Hawaii. Turns out he lost his memories, but a helpful little kid rescues him. After learning about the issues facing the islands, as well as the presence of yakuza, Majima decides to become a pirate. All of the pirates in the game look like what you would typically imagine, or like they’re extras from Pirates of the Caribbean. But it takes place in the modern ages.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will return to the series’s hack ‘n’ slash action in comparison to the newer turn-based combat of 7 and 8. Majima has no reason to indulge in Ichiban’s delusions, after all. You’ll also be able to customize your pirate ship and sing karaoke.

As a note, there are different versions of the game to get. The Hawaii Collector’s Edition will come with an acrylic stand, a pirate flag, a treasure coin pin, and eye patch, and a voucher for the Deluxe Edition’s DLC. DLC from the Deluxe Edition contains additional characters for your crew, extra karaoke CDs, and customization options for your ship and Majima. Finally, the Complete Box will contain the Deluxe Edition DLC, an acrylic art board, a Majima eye patch, and a Pop-Up Pirate Jr. toy. Takara Tomy helped to make the toy.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will come out on February 28, 2025 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam. Pre-ordering the game will add Ichiban and Nancy to the crew, as well as grant you Ichiban’s two outfits to wear.

Sega announced that the iconic Yakuza and Like a Dragon song “Bakamitai” will receive an official vinyl release. The record will go on sale on November 3, 2024 to commemorate Record Day in Japan, and there is no confirmed price nor release regions for the vinyl yet.

The Yakuza (also known as Like a Dragon) “Bakamitai” vinyl record will include "Bakamitai (Taxi Driver Edition)" as the main Side A feature, with the remix song “Bakamitai -sorrow-” as its Side B. Both sides will include full, short, and karaoke versions of each song for a total of 6 tracks. The song is performed by Kazuma Kiryu's Japanese voice actor Takaya Kuroda.

The vinyl record is wine red imitating Kiryu's iconic shirt color with the jacket having the same color. In addition, the jacket features Kiryu in his appearance in Yakuza 5, the game which first introduced “Bakamitai.” The song also made appearances in Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, among other titles in the series.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is the latest title in the Yakuza series and it is readily available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.

A new live-action Like a Dragon: Yakuza series will appear on Amazon Prime Video on October 24, 2024. Ryoma Takeuchi will star as Kiryu Kazuma.

This will be a six-part series, with the first half appearing on October 25, 2024. The second half will air on November 1, 2024. There will be subtitled and dubbed versions of the show. It’ll take place between two time periods—1995 and 2005—and follow both Kiryu’s childhood and his adult life in the yakuza.

Masaharu Take (100 Yen Film) and Kengo Takimoto (Kamen Teacher) are the directors. As mentioned earlier, Takeuchi will be Kiryu, the protagonist and the Dragon of Dojima. Takeuchi’s known for his role as Shinnosuke Tomari, the main character of Kamen Rider Drive. He also starred in Love You as the World Ends as Hibiki Mamiya, and voice-acted as Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) in Detective Pikachu.

Because of the two time periods above, it seems that Like a Dragon: Yakuza on Amazon Prime will also cover the events of the first Yakuza game. The Like a Dragon film (Takashi Miike) which came out in 2007 also focused on that entry. This film had a somewhat comedic and campy tone to it, though. So this live-action series seems to be a more grounded adaptation. According to Masayoshi Yokoyama (head of RGG Studio and executive producer), the games let you see the world through a subjective lens, this show will let you experience the events from an objective perspective.

Sega and RGG Studio will hold auditions to find actors and actresses for a new Like a Dragon game, though it will not be Yakuza 3 Kiwami. Everyone will be able to participate in this audition, which means you will not need to have previous experience or roles in acting. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

The audition for a new Like a Dragon game will be very similar to the one that Sega and RGG Studio held for The Man Who Erased His Name. For that one, they were looking for women to play the hostesses in the cabaret. Among the winners was VTuber Kson, who would also go on to appear in Infinite Wealth. Yokoyama, a producer for the series, has stated that this audition is not for Yakuza Kiwami 3. However, he states that he believes that Sega will eventually release that game.

If Yakuza Kiwami 3 comes out, then it will be an expanded remake of Yakuza 3 in the same vein as the previous Kiwami titles. Since Yakuza Kiwami 2 came out in 2017, Sega has been releasing either new titles continuing the mainline story (as with Yakuza: Like a Dragon and 8) or new games set in the same universe (Judgment). Time will tell what game Sega is holding this audition for, as well as when we’ll get more news on Yakuza Kiwami 3.

More information on the auditions will come out later. The newest game in the Like a Dragon, or Yakuza series, is Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which is available on the PS5, PS5, Windows PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One.

RGG Studio has announced that it will release free DLC for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This is to thank fans for its 1 million units milestone.

The free DLC is an in-game Celebratory T-Shirt Set. Some of the designs that RGG Studio shared in the Tweet include one of the playable characters, one of the Sega logo above pixel art versions of the main characters, and two shirts with Kiryu and Kasuga’s full names on them. The replies to RGG Studio’s Tweet have been very positive. Some s are even asking if there are any plans to manufacture and sell these shirts in real life. There will be more designs as well. Sega will give more information about when the Celebratory T-Shirt Set DLC will come out for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth in the future.

Since the game came out on January 26, 2024, it has already sold over a million copies worldwide. According to Metacritic, critics gave it an average score of 89 and s gave it an average score of 7.3. Famitsu also gave it a perfect score, making it the 30th game ever and the second Like a Dragon title to get a perfect score from Famitsu. You can read our review for the game here.
