Capcom announced on both social media and its official site that its Capcom Store locations now sell Umbrella Corporation branded herb tea based on the blue, green, red, and yellow herbs in Resident Evil. Each package costs 864円 (~$6), and they are now available as of April 28, 2025.

Each of the Resident Evil Umbrella Corporation herb tea features packaging referencing the blue, green, red, and yellow herbs from the game. You get four tea bags per package. The Blue Herbs variety features moringa and stevia. The Green Herbs one is green tea paired with spearmint. The Red Herbs type features hibiscus, rosehip, and stevia. Finally, the Yellow Herbs tea is a chamomile variety.

Here are the packages for each one, which include a clear segment so you can see the teabag inside. The bottom shows what it should look like in a glass, alongside an image of one of the types of herbs from the Resident Evil series, and the Umbrella logo is a bit more subtle and appears at the top of the package.

Five Capcom Store locations in Japan are confirmed to carry the teas. These are the ones in Kobe, Shibuya, Shinsaibashi, Sendai, and Umeda.

Capcom previously sold merchandise based on these types of herbs. In one case, there were bath salts inspired by them.

The Resident Evil series recently hit a milestone. On April 24, 2025, Capcom and the team behind it celebrated the series and Resident Evil 4 ing 10 million players with official art and a special video.

The Capcom Store in Japan is now selling new teas based on the herbs from the Resident Evil series.

capcom resident evil plush

Capcom will release three cute plush toys of classic monsters from the Resident Evil series. Each doll will cost 1100 JPY ($7.40) and you can get a toy of HUNK, a Licker, or a Cerberus.

These are part of the “Capcorom” line of dolls, which feature the character in question lying down on their stomach like a Tsum-Tsum. Though you can tell which doll is what creature, Capcom redesigned them to look cuter than they appear in their home game. They still retain their horror elements, though. You can see the open sores of the Resident Evil Cerberus plush, as well as the exposed brain of the Licker. These Resident Evil dolls will come out on March 15, 2025 in Japan, and you’ll be able to get them in Capcom stores around Japan.

Cerberus and Licker are iconic monsters from the Resident Evil series. The Cerberus is specifically the “zombie dog” that you encounter in the first game, as the Arklay Laboratory created it. Meanwhile, the Licker is a dangerous enemy that debuted in the second game. As for HUNK, he’s an Umbrella operative who’s appeared in multiple games throughout Resident Evil. He usually appears in mini-games or alternate gameplay modes, rather than the main story.

The Capcorom dolls of the Cerberus, Licker, and HUNK from Resident Evil will appear in Japan from March 15, 2025.

Dead by Daylight 2v8 Mode Adds Resident Evil Killers Wesker and Nemesis

Behaviour Interactive announced it is not only bringing back 2v8 to Dead by Daylight for a limited time, but that it also now features Resident Evil Killers The Nemesis and Albert “The Mastermind” Wesker. It will run between February 10-25, 2025.

Bascially, this means that if you go through that mode, you can select Resident Evil content for it. You could select both Nemesis and Wesker as the two killers for the match, for example. Raccoon City Police Department will also now be a possible map that can come up during this mode. Matches with them will also feature items tied to the series. So Green and Yellow Herbs will spawn on the map to heal Survivor Health and Hook States. If you get to a Supply Crate, it could have an antidote capable of curing Nemesis’ T-Virus or Wesker’s Uroboros.

Both Wesker and Nemesis appeared in Dead by Daylight as part of Resident Evil collabs before this 2v8 event. The Nemesis was the Killer in the Chapter 20 update that included survivors Jill Valentine and Leon S Kennedy. That launched in June 2021. Meanwhile, The Mastermind Killer showed up with Survivors Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers in Chapter 25, which debuted in August 2022. There hasn't been any word on any new crossover DLC featuring characters, items, and maps from the series just yet. One of the last game crossovers involved Castlevania and appeared in August 2024.

Dead by Daylight is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the 2v8 Resident Evil event runs February 10-25, 2025.

You Can Buy Dino Crisis and Resident Evil on PS4 and PS5

It is now possible to buy digital copies of two classic Capcom PS1 games for more modern platforms. We can now buy Dino Crisis and Resident Evil Director’s Cut to play on the PS4 and PS5 on the PlayStation Store. Each one costs $9.99.

Prior to this update, we could actually play Dino Crisis and Resident Evil Director’s Cut on the PS4 and PS5. However, there was a limitation to it. Both were added to the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog of games earlier in 2024. However, those required the PlayStation Plus subscription. is $17.99 per month, or $159.99 per year.

This new change omits the PlayStation Plus requirement. If bought for $9.99, then someone permanently has access to Dino Crisis or Resident Evil Director’s Cut on both their PS4 and PS5. There is no need to make separate purchases per console. Just adding it to your library makes it available on both platforms.

Attention ended up being called to Dino Crisis again back when Capcom released Exoprimal. This was due to it also featuring dinosaurs as an opponent. However, we didn’t see that game cross over into the new one.

Both Dino Crisis and Resident Evil Director’s Cut are now available both via the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog or as separate digital purchases on the PlayStation Store.

resident evil working cat

Capcom will release a series of original goods featuring Resident Evil characters looking like the cats from Shigoto Neko (Working Cat). These items are available in the online lottery, CapKuji Online. [Thanks, PR Times!]

Characters who are part of this collaboration are Chris, Leon, Jill, Ada, and Wesker. Most of the items are stuff that you can bring with you outside. In total, there are 33 different prizes that are part of the Resident Evil and Working Cat crossover, with prizes ranging from S to E.

Here are the different prizes:

  • S Prize: Hoodie
  • A Prize: Cap
  • B Prize: Towel
  • C Prize: Badge-like sticker
  • D Prize: Dog tag-looking keychain
  • E Prize: Can badge

It costs 880 JPY ($5.65) per attempt, and the lottery will run until December 16, 2024. As a note, it is possible to do a 10-pull on CapKuji. The 10-pull costs 7920 JPY ($50.90) and is about 880 JPY cheaper than if you bought 10 pulls separately. The items will ship out some time in mid-to-late March 2025.

Working Cat is based on artwork by illustrator Kumamine, using the popularity of previous memes like Denwa Neko (Phone Cat) and Genba Neko (Construction Site Cat). These cats usually strike bizarre poses and work well as Internet memes. Genba Neko, for example, was a cat wearing a construction helmet and performing a safety check. But people would put it with pictures of blatant workplace safety protocol violations.

The Resident Evil and Working Cat crossover will run until December 16, 2024.

One of the most important things a long running series can do is evolve. Sometimes this is gradual, which Resident Evil successfully did. However, Resident Evil has also been known for wild massive overhauls as well. The transition from Resident Evil 6 to Resident Evil 7 was one of the most significant and impactful shifts in the survival horror genre. Rejuvenating a series that had started to drift away from its roots.

This change wasn't without precedent. Resident Evil has a history of evolving its gameplay to keep up with the times. Before Resident Evil 4, the series had relied on tank controls and fixed camera angles in its early entries. While effective at creating tension, had begun to feel outdated as gaming technology advanced.

When Resident Evil 4 launched, it redefined the franchise with its over-the-shoulder third-person perspective. This change made the game feel more fluid and action-oriented. Players could aim precisely, move with more freedom, and engage with enemies in a more dynamic way. The shift was a massive success, not only impacting the Resident Evil series but the industry as a whole. Resident Evil 4’s approach influenced countless games, like Gears of War and nearly every third-person shooter that followed, setting a new standard for how action games were designed.

Resident Evil 4 Platinum Titles

However, by the time Resident Evil 6 arrived, the formula had shifted too far toward bombastic action. The game felt more like a high-octane shooter than a true survival horror experience. There were large-scale set pieces, relentless firefights, and explosions at every turn. While some players, including myself, find things to appreciate in Resident Evil 6—the varied campaigns, the fluid combat, and the sprawling content—it’s hard to argue that the game retained much of the series' original horror DNA.

Instead of genuine terror, the scares were replaced by action, which came at the expense of tension and atmosphere. Even Resident Evil 4, while iconic, leaned more into action, offering Goosebumps-level scares rather than anything deeply terrifying.

With Resident Evil 7, Capcom recognized that it was time for a major shift, returning to what made the series special in the first place. The studio made the bold decision to move the game to a first-person perspective. This move that seemed to draw inspiration from the atmosphere and style of P.T., the legendary horror teaser for the canceled Silent Hills. This first-person perspective immediately made the game feel more intimate and claustrophobic, amplifying the sense of dread that defined the early Resident Evil games.

Resident Evil 7 also brought back the emphasis on survival horror, with a tense and genuinely terrifying setting. A rundown plantation in the heart of the swamps. The Baker family's estate felt like a living, breathing nightmare. A place where every creaky floorboard or shadowy corner could hide something dreadful.

The Bakers themselves were an unforgettable addition to the series, each member representing a different kind of terror. The patriarch, Jack Baker, especially stood out with his relentless pursuit of the player. This also introduced an overhauled stalker mechanic that made every encounter feel like a fight for survival. The way Jack would burst through walls or calmly taunt the player before lunging into a deadly chase was reminiscent of classic Resident Evil enemies like Mr. X, but with a new, more personal twist.

The marketing for Resident Evil 7 also played a crucial role in building its eerie atmosphere. The cryptic trailers and multiple demos like the "Beginning Hour" kept fans guessing about the nature of the game. This created a sense of anticipation and unease long before players even set foot in the Baker family’s home.

Another significant change in Resident Evil 7 was the introduction of a new protagonist, Ethan Winters. Rather than bringing back series veterans like Chris Redfield or Leon Kennedy, the game chose to focus on Ethan. He's just a regular guy drawn into the horrors of the Baker estate while searching for his missing wife, Mia. This decision further grounded the game’s horror, as players saw the nightmare unfold through the eyes of someone without the combat experience of a trained agent. And while Resident Evil 7 initially felt like a departure from the series’ ongoing narrative, by the end, it became clear that it was the next chapter in the story, rather than a total reboot. There were enough connections to the broader Resident Evil lore to satisfy long-time fans, while still being accessible to newcomers.

Image via Capcom

While Resident Evil Village built upon the foundation of Resident Evil 7 with more action and a larger scope, the impact of Resident Evil 7 remains unmatched. The fear, the isolation, and the slower pace made Resident Evil 7 a return to form for the series. A reminder of the kind of white-knuckle survival horror that put the franchise on the map in the first place. Village did refined some of 7's rougher edges, offering a more varied experience with a blend of action and horror. However, Resident Evil 7 is the game that I find myself thinking about more often. It’s a game that redefined what Resident Evil could be, proving that even after decades, the series still had the power to surprise, and terrify, its audience.

Resident Evil 7 is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, and through the cloud on Switch.

Horror games are so iconic. Few games immerse the player in an evocative and memorable world as well as horror titles. Famous, classic Japanese horror series like Resident Evil and Silent Hill keep putting out games. In fact, the recent release of Silent Hill 2 shows there is plenty of room for more horror remakes. This are our picks for the classic horror games that need a sequel or remake next.

Siliconera Speaks Up: Horror Games That Need a Remake or Sequel 602v4s

I'm kind of loathe to think of Siren: Blood Curse as a remake of the original game since it's SO different in of…well, everything. It's more a reimagination, really. While a much more faithful remake of Siren would be nice, I'm one of those people who believe that if you're going to play it, you should play the original, horrible, janky version and get that true frustrating experience. It's part of the charm. -- Stephanie (1/2)

Siren 2, on the other hand, seemed to have genuinely wanted to provide some quality-of-life upgrades. As such, it would be nice to see a proper remake of that one. Heck, a Siren 3 that's similar to the first two in of gameplay and writing would be great too. It might be difficult though, since the main creative team for Siren seem to be at Bokeh Game Studio now and I don't know who even has the rights to the IP anymore. -- Stephanie (2/2)

I have to agree with Stephanie. Siren should come back. It's such a memorable story, and the gameplay was so unusual and different. It genuinely felt desperate and horrifying when you knew the Shibito were everywhere, you were outnumbered, and it would be so easy to panic and slip up. -- Jenni

I’m a wimp when it comes to horror games so I mostly stick to visual novels. Though not outright horror games, I keep hoping and praying for new games in the Zero Escape and Danganronpa series. They both have light spooky elements, especially 999 with the “knocking” part that actually made me jump when I first played it. Both series made me fall in love with the visual novel genre and I just need more of both. This is particularly painful for Zero Escape since I will stand by that Zero Time Dilemma’s most horrifying part was its terribly unfinished ending that needs a sequel someday. -- Cody

In any medium, a remake is a tricky choice. You don't want to alienate old fans by changing everything completely, but you want new fans to enjoy modern amenities. I think Capcom have perfected the art with their many remakes in the Resident Evil franchise.

These games have laid out the template and set the gold standard going forward for video game remakes. Capcom achieved the rare feat of both revitalizing their classic titles while still moving their games forward. Also, the remakes have brought an entire franchise, once spread across generations, all onto the same platform.

These remakes aren’t just nostalgic revisits; they are high-quality reimaginings that cater to both seasoned fans and newcomers alike. A huge part of this lies in their ability to blend the tone and gameplay of modern Resident Evil entries with the spirit of the originals. This is something I feel many remakes fail to do. They either try to much to recapture the original experience or they go too far in modernizing everything.

Titles like the Resident Evil 2 remake retain the core horror elements and characters that fans love. However, they introduce fresh mechanics, revamped visuals, and improved gameplay that align with more recent releases. In this way, Capcom has created a bridge between the old and the new. They're crafting remakes that feel both like historical preservation and an evolution of their games moving forward.

Of course it helps that Resident Evil games had infamously aged poorly to modern gamers. Early Resident Evil titles had some less popular gameplay element such as tank controls, fixed camera angles, and visuals constrained by the hardware. Which can be a turn-off to more modern audiences. The remakes remove these barriers, replacing them with fluid third-person gameplay, more detailed environments, and more dynamic combat systems. This has lead to many people who missed out on the originals to finally go back and pick up those pieces of the story.

One significant outcome of this remake strategy is how it smooths the transition between older and newer titles. For a new player, starting with the 1996 original and working their way to the most recent entries would result in a jarring shift in quality and mechanics. However, with the remakes, players can now play everything in order without feeling like they’re stepping back in time. Their consistent quality prevents players from experiencing a massive drop in design or technical fidelity from game to game.

Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways

In some ways, Capcom’s handling of the Resident Evil remakes is kind of like Taylor Swift’s approach to re-recording her discography. Fixing a few things that need fixing, updating things with newer technology, but preserving the core experience. They invite a new generation into their respective worlds without sacrificing what made the originals beloved. Although, some fans will of course disagree as some fans often do.

The Resident Evil remakes should be used as a blueprint for other game developers looking to breathe new life into their classic titles. We’ve already seen how this strategy can work in other contexts, such as the critically acclaimed Dead Space remake. Much like Resident Evil, Dead Space took a beloved original and rebuilt it with a few new ideas. However, they preserved the essence of what made it a classic. The success of these remakes demonstrates that, when done right, a remake can do more than just bring back an old game—it can actually move your series forward.

Resident Evil 3 Remake Sales

Capcom has proven that revisiting a classic with fresh eyes and a modern touch doesn’t mean compromising on the soul of the original. The Resident Evil remakes are more than just nostalgia trips; they are masterclasses in how to balance innovation with tradition. Honestly, I'm sure we're going to see more companies follow this "remake your whole franchise" model. And if they do it well, I welcome it.

Ultimately, the Resident Evil remakes have set the bar. Not just in survival horror but in the broader realm of video game remakes. They are a testament to the power of reinvention, showing that it’s possible to honor the past while embracing the future. Capcom has set a template for the gaming industry that others should follow, proving that with the right approach, a remake can serve as both a celebration of gaming history and a new benchmark for modern design.

Licker Plush Resident Evil

Universal Studios Japan and Capcom will release new Resident Evil merchandise in September. One of the new Resident Evil items is a Licker plush. Additional merchandise includes T-shirts and a S.T.A.R.S. themed pouch. These items will appear as part of the Universal Studios Japan Halloween 2024 celebration on September 5, 2024. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

As mentioned previously, a Resident Evil Licker plush will be available to purchase during this period. While the plush is relatively small, it can be attached to the shoulder with a series of clips. This is similar to other merchandise at Universal Studios that can be found in other areas of the park.

Other merchandise includes a B.S.A.A. t-shirt, the aforementioned S.T.A.R.S. pouch that comes with a badge attached, an R.P.D. bag, a First-Aid spray water bottle, and a series of keychains based on the puppet appearances of the villains of Resident Evil Village that appeared in a series of skits.

These items are exclusive to Universal Japan, and will not appear at Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Studios Florida. Which means if you would like to get your hands on these items, you will need to do so through a middle-man service.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. The new Resident Evil merchandise items at Universal Studios Japan will be available on September 5, 2024.

resident evil bundle gog

A Resident Evil bundle is now available on GOG. It contains the first three games, though the second and third will come out later.

All three games are compatible on Windows 10 and 11. You’ll be able to use a controller to play, and there will be in six different language. While the bundle makes you pay for all three games, Resident Evil 2 and 3 won’t come out until later in 2024. But if you purchased the bundle, you’ll automatically see them in your library after they come out. If you don’t know if you want to buy them, you can also purchase the first game on its own.

Resident Evil to Resident Evil 3: Nemesis were on the original PlayStation console before Resident Evil 4 (the next mainline title, but not the next title in the series) appeared on the GameCube. Not only was 4 on a different console, but it was also drastically different when it came to the gameplay. Instead of a fixed camera, there was a dynamic over-the-shoulder one. It also emphasized action more, such as in the usage of quick-time events. While 2 and 3 have more modern remakes that make use of polished graphics and controls, some people may want to experience the original game and GOG has made it easier to do so.

The Resident Evil bundle is available on GOG for Windows PC. Resident Evil 2 and 3 will appear later in 2024.

Capcom proposal to release Resident Evil toys via Happy Meal

Capcom wants to see figures from its Resident Evil game series released as Happy Meal toys in McDonald's outlets. The company stated its desire by posting a new tweet on its Resident Evil series' official X .

The figures shown in the tweet are based on in-game collectible items from the series. From left to right, they are Mr. Everywhere from Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Mr. Raccoon from the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2, Charlie Doll from the 2020 remake of Resident Evil 3, and the Clockwork Castellan from the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4.

Capcom's tweet is available to view right below:

McDonald's has previously released Happy Meal toys based on video game franchises like Pokemon, Kirby, and Sonic the Hedgehog. These franchises share a similarity, in which most of their entries are available for children with the ESRB E (Everyone) and CERO A ratings. On the other hand, most Resident Evil games are generally geared towards a more mature audience with the ESRB M (Mature) or CERO D ratings.

The only entries to receive lower ratings were the Game Boy Color title Resident Evil Gaiden and the Resident Evil 2 port for Tiger Electronics' Game.com handheld console, which ESRB gave the T (Teen) rating. But still, there are no series entries released to date that have received an ESRB E or CERO A rating to make them suitable for kids.

It remains to be seen whether Capcom's wish to have these Resident Evil figures available as Happy Meal toys will become a reality, whether in McDonald's Japan or other countries.
