Red Dead Redemption is finally getting a PC release, as announced by Rockstar. Both the base game and the Undead Nightmare expansion will be coming to Steam, Epic and Rockstar’s own storefront on October 29, 2024.

Rockstar confirmed the official PC version of Red Dead Redemption is on the way via the company's website. The port will be handled by Double Eleven, who previously handled the PS4 and Switch ports of the game. New features added for the PC version include native 4K resolution, for ultrawide monitors and keyboard and mouse controls.

Here's the trailer revealing it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnvc6uC6xZE

As well as the base game, the PC port will come bundled with Undead Nightmare. This was the non-canon standalone expansion to the game that saw John Marston face off against zombie hordes.

A possible PC release for the game was leaked earlier this year, when we saw the description of the PS4 version briefly changed to mention PC-specific features. While the description was quickly changed back to its original wording, screenshots were widely circulated. Up until now, the game has been exclusively available on consoles, from its original PS3 and Xbox 360 release up to more modern ports.

Red Dead Redemption is set to release on PC on October 29, 2024. It is also currently available on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.

Red Dead Redemption PC Version

A PC release of Red Dead Redemption may have been teased, thanks to an unexpected source. This game’s PlayStation Store listing briefly displayed some extra text mentioning a PC version of the title. [Thanks, @Wario64!]

The change to the Red Dead Redemption listing stated that the game was “now on PC for the first time ever” despite there being no official announcement of this release. This is also notable for being on PSN, despite this not being a PC storefront, and because the PS4 version of the game has been out for almost a year.

While the description was similar to the standard PSN listing for Red Dead Redemption, there were mentions of PC-specific features. These included increased options for greater resolutions and framerates, alternate display options and spatial surround sound. Screenshots have been circulating on social media after the description was first noticed, although this new description has since been reverted back to the original from 2023.

A PC release is highly anticipated for Red Dead Redemption. Despite the game’s critical and commercial success since its initial release in 2010, the game has remained a console exclusive. The game originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with a re-release in 2023 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Its sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, did release for Steam and the now-defunct Stadia streaming service.

Red Dead Redemption is out now for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. A PC version may be in the works.

Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare Switch PS4 Ports Confirmed

Rockstar Games announced that we'll see Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare expansion on the Switch and PS4. It will show up digitally on both platforms on August 17, 2023 for $49.99. If you prefer a physical copy, you'll need to wait until October 13, 2023 for that to show up in stores. There's also an initial trailer showing how the game and its zombie-themed add-on will look on the systems.

Here's the first trailer for Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare on the Switch and PS4.

Rockstar Games also noted Double Eleven is involved with the porting process. Previous, the developer worked on the Vita version of LittleBigPlanet, the console version of Rust, and Fallout 76.

Red Dead Redemption first appeared on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. The Undead Nightmare expansion, which also ended up being a standalone game, showed up later that same year.

The latest entry in the series is Red Dead Redemption 2. We can play it on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It was also available on PCs via Google Stadia, however that service is now dead.

Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will come to the Nintendo Switch and PS4 on August 17, 2023.

Microsoft are asking Xbox One owners to vote for the Xbox 360 games they’d like to see added to the console’s backward compatible list. At the very top of the list is Read Dead Redemption, with over 35,000 votes so far.   At #2 is Call of Duty: Black Ops II, while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is at #3. Unsurprisingly, Halo: Reach is #4, and another Call of DutyModern Warfare 2 this time—round out the top five.   You can cast your own backward compatibility vote on this page. The backward compatibility feature will be available this Fall, starting with a hundred titles, and “hundreds more” to be added in the future.

The week of October 4th - 10th. Pokémon Black/White maintain their clear lead over every other game in the race. But wait! What's this? An impressive performance by Red Dead Redemption on PS3 at #4, coming in at 70,599 units?! That isn't too far from Dead Rising 2's debut on PS3 last week.

Combined with sales of the Xbox 360 version, that brings Red Dead's total up to over 96,000 units.

That's the big sales story of the day, aside from Kingdom Hearts re:Coded, which moved 95,505 units in its first week. That's a fairly low figure compared to opening sales of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, which debuted at nearly 300,000 units. Unlike 358/2, however, re:Coded isn't an original title -- it's a remake of a mobile phone game, which Japanese Kingdom Hearts fans have likely already played.

Meanwhile, Class of Heroes 3 moved 30,000 units on PSP and about half that on PS3. The other interesting release was by Rocket Company, who publish the Medabots games in Japan. This week, they released Tenkaichi Sengoku Lovers, an otome game for DS, which charted at #15 with 9.5k units.

Red Dead Redemption led the monthly software sales chart for a second month in a row in North America, according to the NPD Group's report. With multiplatform sales of approximately 1.5 million units in May and another one million in June, Rockstar San Diego and Take Two's hit title is now the best-selling game of 2010 to date.

Newly-released contenders in the top-ten include Lego Harry Potter and Toy Story 3, both multiplatform titles that did best on the Wii and DS respectively. This sort of phenomenon isn't unprecedented -- Ubisoft, too, reported a few months ago that movie tie-in, Avatar, sold best on the Wii.

Rank Title Sales Release Sys. Publisher
01. Red Dead Redemption 582.9K May-10 360 Take Two
02. Super Mario Galaxy 2 548.4K May-10 Wii Nintendo
03. Red Dead Redemption 380.3K May-10 PS3 Take Two
04. New Super Mario Bros. Wii 200.9K Nov-09 Wii Nintendo
05. Just Dance 174.8K Nov-09 Wii Ubisoft
06. Wii Fit Plus (w/ Balance Board) – – Oct-09 Wii Nintendo
07. Toy Story 3 – – Jun-10 DS Disney Interactive
08. UFC  2010: Undisputed – – May-10 360 THQ
09. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1 - 4 – – Jun-10 Wii Warner Bros.
10. UFC  2010: Undisputed – – May-10 PS3 THQ

The other point of interest is the jump in sales for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and possibly Just Dance, as compared to May.

NSMB Wii clearly outsold its sub-192.3K May numbers, while Just Dance rose through the charts, overtaking God of War III, Lost Planet 2, and surprisingly, Pokémon Soul Silver, which dropped out of the top-ten for the first time since its release in March.

Additionally, NPD reported the new Tiger Woods release -- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 -- sold only 32% of what last year's game sold in its debut month at retail.

Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar San Diego's open world Western, got off to a fine start in May, NPD analyst, Anita Frazier, pointed out in the research firm's delayed May sales analysis. The game, a follow-up to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, sold 1.5 million units across the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in its debut month.

Following Red Dead, was Super Mario Galaxy 2, coming in at 563.9K units.

Something interesting about May 2010 software sales is that, like March, the majority of occupants in the top-ten chart were new releases. This is helps because new releases push up the average selling price for software overall, positively contributing to total revenues.

The top-ten software sales chart for May 2010 is as follows:

Rank Title Sales Release Sys. Publisher
01. Red Dead Redemption 945.9K May-10 360 Take Two
02. Red Dead Redemption 567.1K May-10 PS3 Take Two
03. Super Mario Galaxy 2 563.9K May-10 Wii Nintendo
04. UFC 2010: Undisputed 221.1K May-10 360 THQ
05. UFC 2010: Undisputed 192.3K May-10 PS3 THQ
06. Wii Fit Plus (w/ Balance Board) – – Oct-09 Wii Nintendo
07. New Super Mario Bros. Wii – – Nov-09 Wii Nintendo
08. Alan Wake – – May-10 360 Microsoft
09. Pokémon Soul Silver – – Mar-10 DS Nintendo
10. Skate 3 – – May-10 360 Electronic Arts

May was also another good month of growth for the PlayStation 3. "May was the 10th consecutive month of year-over-year software sales increases for the PS3 platform," Frazier observes in her report. "Combined with the hardware and accessories sales increases for the platform, the PS3 has really hit its stride."

Overall, software sales in May 2010 grew 4% over the same period in 2009, contributing $466.3M to industry revenue, as compared to '09's $450.4M.
