Sega announced that Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, known in Japan as Project Sekai, will be the inspiration for an anime movie adaptation titled Project Sekai The Movie: Kowareta Sekai to Utaenai Miku. The movie will release in Japan on January 17, 2025. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

Studio P.A. Works is in charge of animating the movie, with Hiroyuki Hata acting as director. Yoko Yonaiyama will write the script and animation director Yuki Akiyama will also be in charge of character designs. More information will appear on September 27, 2024 during the fourth anniversary broadcast for Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage/Project Sekai.

The title of the movie roughly translates to “The Broken World and Miku Who Can't Sing.” The announcement of the movie appeared during the recent 10th official news broadcast for the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage mobile game. A teaser trailer of the anime movie appeared featuring Miku and various other Project Sekai characters.

To commemorate the 3rd anniversary of Project Sekai, available worldwide as Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, Sega and Colorful Palette are holding a Project Sekai 3rd Anniversary Thanks Festival. For fans who cannot attend the in-person event, Live Viewing Japan is offering an alternative means for fans to watch all four performances from the Project Sekai 3rd Anniversary Thanks Festival. Tickets to a Project Sekai 3rd Anniversary Thanks Festival Live Viewing will be available at the price of 3,500 yen ($25) across theaters in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea. The event will be at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo between September 16-17, 2023, with theater showings happening at that time in all countries.

During the festival, there will be a live reading of an exclusive scenario, a talk show delving into the history of Project Sekai, and a mini live performance from the cast. The festival will be split into two days. There will be different people appearing on Saturday and Sunday.

Sega Sammy released its Fiscal Year Ended March 2022 Results Presentation on May 13, 2022. Among the details were figures going over income from its free-to-play titles. It turns out Hatsune Miku was the queen between January 2022 and March 2022. Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage had the highest sales out of its free-to-play games during that period.

Here's the full announcement. Exact income for the period between January and March 2022 wasn't revealed. However, Sega did confirm that the Hatsune Miku rhythm game outperformed the MMO Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and mobile game North Star Legends Revive.

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage is a rhythm game involving the Vocaloids' interactions with high school musicians. There are five groups, called Leo/Need, More More Jump, Vivid Bad Squad, Wonderlands x Showtime, and Nightcord at 25:00. Each one has its own aesthetic and style. (So Vivid Bad Squad is hip-hop, while More More Jump is an idol group.) Songs can feature Vocaloids performing alone or alongside the voice actors for of those groups. As you level up characters you’ve earned, you’ll also get to see more of each group’s story. There are also regular events that involve new storylines and let people earn new characters. There’s no stamina system, and the gacha involves earning new character cards for your five-character groups.

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage is available on Android and Apple iOS devices worldwide. In Japan, it is known as Project Sekai: Colorful Stage.

Sega and Colorful Palette have added "Piano x Forte x Scandal" to the Japanese version of Project Sekai Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku. The song was added as part of an ongoing 1.5-year anniversary campaign. s will have access to the song via the in-game song shop starting April 3, 2022. [Thanks, Gamer!]

"Piano x Forte x Scandal" originally debuted in 2008. It is widely known for being OSTER project's first song using the MEIKO Vocaloid. The song has since gained significant popularity in the Vocaloid community, received various covers from other artists and other Vocaloids, and an updated version using MEIKO V3. The song has also appeared in past games such as Project Mirai DX and Project DIVA.

Players can access the new song by exchanging music cards in the song shop. Only the virtual singer version will be available. Sega also ed a short video showing off how the hard version of the song plays. As part of the 1.5-year anniversary event, Sega also plans to add "Sennen no Dokusouka," featuring KAITO, on April 4, 2022.

Earlier this year, the game also hosted a collaboration event with Cup Noodle. The event featured five new songs from five different artists, each inspired by a Cup Noodle flavor. Back in December 2021, an English version of the game released under the title Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage.

This might come as a surprise to people, but in a game called Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, the Crypton Vocaloids aren't really the main characters. They are there, sure. Miku is an important part of all the storylines as a central character, yes. However, they aren't the stars. Instead, the focus is on groups of talented young people. Each one of them possesses some musical talent. They're on the verge of a breakthrough (or breakdown). And rather than just make sure they look and sound good, there's genuine thought put into making them identifiable, heartfelt, and even realistic.

There are five groups in Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, each with its own sort of theme. For example, Leo/need is the group of childhood friends getting the band (and their friendship) back together. More More Jump! is composes of idols (and prospective idols) at varying stages in their careers. Nightcord at 25:00 is a group of strangers with unique traumas coming together to create music anonymously. So individually, you have different genres and themes connected to the overarching stories. Wonderlands x Showtime is a group of eclectic individuals trying to make a theme park’s stage show popular again. You know to expect silliness. Nightcord at 25:00 is a darker and more dramatic tale with mature themes. Its are in the Empty Sekai attempting to keep one of their own from doing something drastic. The five base tales cover different bases.

But what makes them stronger is that each one isn't limited to the genres and themes you'd expect from them. You'd expect More More Jump's tale to be about the prospective singers coming together. They find what they need to become stars is perhaps each other. And sure, there's some of that as Airi, Haruka, Minori, and Shizuku practice together and interact with one another. But it's also a realistic look at what people might go through if they pursue a professional career in music. Airi ended up finding success in the idol industry, but found herself typecast as "comedy relief." Minori's failed dozens of auditions. So in addition to them discovering and rediscovering what they love about performing, we see how difficult the work is. Leo/need is touching. We see friends reuniting. They discover they still cared and needed each other all along. But we're also seeing how bullying can affect people's lives.

Also, the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage characters are each well developed. While certain people might come across initially as "more important" in some storylines, the others matter just as much. Nightcord at 25:00 is especially good at this. K and Yuki are the focal points. K's father is hospitalized. She blames herself for his illness. She's desperate to save people, since she couldn't save him. We see her isolation and savior complex. Yuki's so depressed and pressured that she's completely emotionless and empty. However, both Amia and Enanan are dealing with their own traumas. Each of them isn't attending school normally, like K, for their own reasons. While the group (and players) might be "there" for Yuki, these four are genuinely lifelines for each other. We get to see that play out as they connect here and in their first event story.

Not to mention how important the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage events are for developing characters. The global version's been going through some of them rather quickly, perhaps in an attempt to catch up to the Japanese version. They offer supplemental development for specific characters. Each one provides even more insight into what they're doing and how they're growing after the main stories. In First Star After the Rain, we explore how Saki feels after finally being discharged from the hospital. We get to understand her priorities. We also see how someone who once thought she was going to die is dealing with it. While the Nightcord at 25:00 tale hints at Yuki's trauma, Imprisoned Marionette shows part of what she's dealing with after an excursion in the real world with her collaborators triggers her.

The result is that Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage is a game where characters are constantly growing. We're learning about them with each main campaign chapter and event. And, due to the way it works, nobody is locked out of event stories after they're over. All of them are unlocked to view, even if you didn't earn them. Which means every player is able to follow along with the developments and see the different layers to each one's personalities.

Sega announced a Cup Noodle collaboration will appear in Project Sekai Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku. The Project Sekai and Cup Noodle collaboration will begin on January 10, 2021 and add a total of five songs to the game. Each of the songs will be inspired by a Cup Noodle flavor. The songs created for the collaboration will appear on YouTube alongside appearing in the mobile game. A special website has been opened for the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage and Cup Noodle collaboration. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

Additionally, to celebrate the announcement of the collaboration, artist DECO*27 released a new song. The title of the song is "Salamander," and it is the first of several songs that will appear.

It took some time, but Project Sekai Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku is getting an English release as Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage. To help prepare, Siliconera spoke with Producer Tomokazu Ichikawa about the game. It turns out localization began once the Japanese version launched and, while it will be about a year behind, all updates are on the way.

Jenni Lada, Siliconera: When did localization work on Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage begin?

Tomokazu Ichikawa: As soon as we launched the Japanese version, we started assembling a team for global version, right around January 2021.

How much will be localized? For example will there be English subtitles for the Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage songs?

Ichikawa: We kept the original voice lines and song lyrics to preserve the unaltered atmosphere. The songs do not have subtitles but everything else from the story, interface, and other texts are translated into English.

Given how established the Vocaloids are in games, such as the Project Diva series, how difficult was it finding or maintaining personalities when localizing Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage?

Ichikawa: We utilized our experience with Diva series and constructed unique world for this game with many new characters, taking place in our real-life world.

There have been quite a few updates released for Project Sekai Colorful Stage feat. Hatsune Miku in Japan. How much of that content will be in Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage when the English version launches?

Ichikawa: Not all post-launch updates for Japanese version will be available for global version at launch. However, we will add every content update made to Japanese version to global version as well down the line. Also, we are preparing some timed-exclusive contents for global version as well.

In of events and updates, how big do you expect the gap to be between the Japanese and English versions of Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage?

Ichikawa: At the time of the launch, the global version will a little over an year behind in of the events and updates compared to the Japanese version. It would be difficult to catch up as we intend to run every event we ran for Japanese version, but we aim to catch up as soon as possible in of features and songs.

Have there been any unexpected challenges when preparing Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage for an English release?

Ichikawa: It was the first time for us to set up the team for release of mobile game in the west, so we were not certain how to form a line of communication between US and Japanese teams. We were unable to meet face to face due to COVID situation, but, ironically, it also helped us tremendously in of remote communication.

Will there be any global-exclusive events or songs in Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage?

Ichikawa: We are not at liberty to reveal anything concrete at the moment, but we aim to answer your request, building the game with you, the community.

The newest Hatsune Miku game will appear in 2021. Sega and Colorful Palette confirmed the Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage English release date. People can begin playing the rhythm game on December 7, 2021. This comes after the October 2021 beta.

To go along with the reveal, there are details about in-game bands. While the Crypton Vocaloids feature prominently, there are original groups too. Each one has its own motivations and characters. Throughout the game, they'll be assisted by Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, Megurine Luka, Kaito, and Meiko.

Here’s the Hatsune Miku Colorful Stage English release date and band trailer. Each band’s (and voice actors) are introduced. Then, you get to hear them play briefly. First is Leo/need. Ichika Hoshino, Saki Tenma, Honami Mochizuki, and Shino Hinomori are in it. Then, there’s Minori Hanasato, Haruka Kiritani, Airi Momoi, and Shizuku Hinomori. They’re attempting to be idols in More More Jump. The next group is The next group is Vivid Bad Squad. Kohane Azusawa, An Shiraishi, Akito Shinonome, and Toya Aoyagi are in it. After that, Tsukasa Tenma, Emu Otori, Nene Kusanagi, and Rui Kamishiro come together as Wonderlands Showtime. The final band is Nightcord at 25:00. People can start playing the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage English version today, thanks to a public beta. At 3pm PT/6pm ET, it will kick off. People can grab their respective of the client via Google Play and iOS Testflight. The beta will end on October 19, 2021.

The announcement covered a few things people can expect from the Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage English beta. First is that only some of the unit story chapters will be available. Those will be unlocked, however, for folks to see. You will also be given Crystals to try the gacha out. When the beta first kicks off on October 4, 2021, 28 songs will be available. That number will grow throughout the two week test. By the time it ends, there will be 41 songs to try.

In case you're curious about what to expect, a sample of a song is available online. The official YouTube showed what it is like to play "Tell Your World" on the hard difficulty level.

Project Sekai Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku will get an English release and appear outside of Japan in 2021. Sega, Craft Egg, and Colorful Palette will release it worldwide as Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage. As a reminder, this is the Hatsune Miku rhythm game where she and other Vocaloids perform familiar songs alongside "groups.

There are five groups in the game. In Japan, they were known as 25-ji, Nightcord de, Leo/need, More More Jump, Vivid Bad Squad, and Wonderlands x Showtime. Each group is made up of people who find themselves in the virtual world of Sekai and perform alongside Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, Megurine Luka, Meiko, and Kaito. So, for example, Meiko is the main Vocaloid helping Vivid Bad Squad. Both old and new songs appear in it, with both ryo's "Melt" and kz's "Tell Your World" among included tracks. These are new versions of existing songs like "Hibana." There are also original songs like "Wah Wah World."

Sega and Colorful Palette has released a new music video for Project Sekai, which features a collaboration with the Vocaloid Megurine Luka. Megurine Luka originally performed the song, "ECHO." However, this version is a mash-up with the Vivid BAD SQUAD, which is a group within the Project Sekai universe. The official Project Sekai Colorful Stage! ft. Hatsune Miku YouTube ed the new music video. [Thanks, Gamer!]

Like the original release, Crusher P composed this new version of "ECHO." The artist composed the original song using Megurine Luka, and this new version adds Project Sekai group Vivid BAD SQUAD to the mix. The new music video also features illustrations of the in-universe group.

In February 2021, a Hatsune Miku and Project Sekai collaboration song was released. Similar to "ECHO," this song is a spin on a previously released Vocaloid song. In January 2021, Project Sekai added a new song produced by Vocaloid producer 40mP into the game. An in-game idol group went on to perform the song.

In the rhythm game's universe, the Project Sekai all-girl group Leo/need performs the song "Hibana -Reloaded-" with Hatsune Miku. In reality, the Vocaloid producer DECO*27 wrote both the song and its lyrics. The track is pop rock and very reminiscent of the anime song genre. DECO*27 ed the original version of "Hibana" back in late 2017, though the Project Sekai arrangement only came out in September 2020. In October 2020, "Stella" by in-game group Leo/need made its debut in Project Sekai. The full 3D music video was inspired by the "First Star of the Evening After Rain" virtual concert that was held during that same month. Players were able to participate in the event and watch the performance live. At the time those who attended the event could select from a variety of ways to interact with Leo/need by waving glowsticks to show their .

Project Sekai Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku is available for iOS and Android devices in Japan. There has been no word of a potential English localization.

The arrive at the 1:00 mark of the video. It starts with a skit with the Project Sekai of Leo/need. When Ichika is asked what she wants to do, she says that she wants to watch fireworks with the four. The girls suggest going to a fireworks display on the following week, but Saki says there's no need to rush with other options such as watching the fireworks together at a park. However, Ichika finds Saki's behavior odd, as she usually likes to dive in without hesitation. Earlier this week, Sega and Craft Egg subsidiary Colorful Palette announced that the Crypton Vocaloids-themed smartphone rhythm game Project Sekai feat. Hatsune Miku will launch on September 30, 2020. The game entered pre-registration and got beta tests earlier this year.

The premise of Project Sekai is that there is a world separate from ours where music is formed from the thoughts of humans in our world. Hatsune Miku and the other Vocaloids are inhabitants of this world, and when several groups of humans accidentally find themselves in the other world, they collaborate with the Vocaloids to create new music that will help them achieve their dreams. The game will feature both famous songs and brand-new songs to jam to, and the game also features new arrangements of existing songs that include both human and Vocaloid singers. Here's one of the new songs, “Wah Wah World” by Giga and Mitchie M, below:

You can find the game's pre-registration page here, and the game's iOS and Android pages here. Like many other smartphone games, a pre-registration campaign is going on for the game. Notably, 390k pre-registrations will net all players special outfits for the Vocaloids, and 600k pre-registrations will net every player a guaranteed 3-star or above character.
