Published by Shueisha in the Monthly Margaret, From Me To You: Kimi ni Todoke is a manga by Karuho Shiina running from December 13, 2005 - November 13, 2017. 123 chapters of the shoujo manga released in 30 volumes. As a shoujo manga, Karuho Shiina targets teen girls with a high school setting filled with romance, comedy, rejection, and tension.

The story of From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke follows social outcast Sawako Kuronuma on her first day of high school. Her similarities to a popular horror character named Sadako intertwined with her timid personality leads others to avoid her. However, Sawako gradually leaves her hardened shell with help from Shota Kazehaya; a boy who treats her like he would anyone else. After being thrusted into new relationships and situations, Sawako must navigate these budding feelings that sprout from within.

Season one of Me To You: Kimi ni Todoke ran from October 6, 2009 - March 30, 2010 consisting of 25 episodes. The first season of this high school romance adapts seven volumes that include 27 chapters of the manga. As the manga was still ongoing at the time, Production I.G, the animation studio, wasn’t able to adapt everything during the original run of the anime. This season of the anime can be viewed on a plethora of platforms. From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke season one is available on Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, and Tubi.

Season two aired from January 4, 2011 to March 30, 2011 in Japan over 13 episodes. With a shorter season than the first, the anime adapts chapters 28 to 46 that are a part of volumes 8 to 11. Similar to season one of this romance series, watch season two on Crunchyroll, Hulu, Netflix, and Tubi. However, season three is slightly different in the viewing experience.

After 13 years, Kimi ni Todoke season 3 officially launched exclusively on Netflix on August 1, 2024 with five initial episodes. This season will adapt Shiina’s manga through 18 volumes, leaving room for another season to adapt the last 12 volumes.

Kimi ni Todoke has been adapted into a light novel, a Netflix live-action show, and an anime. With localizations done by Viz Media, the manga is also available to purchase. Watch the first two seasons of Kimi ni Todoke on Crunchyroll. Indulge in the live action series along with season 1-3 on Netflix

psycho- 10th anniversary dominator re-run

Cerevo will re-run the 10th anniversary edition of the Dominator from Psycho-. Pre-orders opened on July 23, 2024 and the gun will cost 148,500 JPY ($955.15) or $1229. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Like the original version, there are over a hundred voice variations from Noriko Hidaka (who voices the Dominator in the show) that’ll play when you hold the grip or point the gun at someone. However, the 10th anniversary model has a slightly modified interior. Everything else is the same, so it’s unlikely that you’ll notice anything different. It’ll also come with a protector case that has a serial number.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Geyo56N1ic8

This is a 1/1 replica of the Dominator from Psycho-, with Production I.G. (the animation studio that created the show) helping to supervise the recreation. Aside from the voice lines from Hidaka, the Dominator also has over 200 LED lights on it and is capable of transforming. You can connect it to a smartphone app to measure your Criminal Coefficient store, as well as your friend’s. The app is available via the Google Play Store or App Store. As well, you can charge it via USB so you don’t need to worry about replacement batteries.

In the show itself, the Dominator is a weapon that the PSB uses when subduing criminals and latent criminals. Inspectors and Enforcers can only fire Dominators with approval from the Sibyl System (a Big Brother-like program that people use for everything, including calculating an individual’s criminal potential). Depending on the situation, the Dominator can fire paralyzing shots to non-lethally contain a criminal, or a more dangerous one that can reduce them to a bloody goop.

Psycho- is readily available on streaming services like Crunchyroll. Pre-orders for the Psycho- 10th Anniversary Edition Dominator model are open right now and they’ll ship out in Winter 2024 in Japan. The global store lists the shipping window as August 2024. There’s only a limited number in supply so pre-orders will close as soon as Cerevo runs out.

Uzumaki Anime English and Japanese Voice Actors Shared

At Anime Expo 2024, we finally learned more about the Uzumaki anime adaptation again, with the latest reveal involving English and Japanese voice actors for a handful of characters. That brings the total of known performers up to eight, if we consider we already knew Junji Ito makes a cameo appearance

Here is the full list of confirmed Uzumaki Japanese voice actors.

  • Azami Kurotani: Mariya Ise
  • Katayama: Katsutoshi Matsuzaki
  • Kirie Goshima: Uki Satake
  • Kirie’s Dad: Toshio Furukawa
  • Shuichi Saito: Shinichiro Miki
  • Shuichi’s Dad: Takashi Matsuyama
  • Shuichi’s Mom: Mika Doi

And here are the English dub voices for Uzumaki characters:

  • Azami Kurotani: Cristina Vee
  • Katayama: Max Mittleman
  • Kirie Goshima: Abby Trott
  • Kirie’s Dad: Doug Stone
  • Shuichi Saito: Robbie Daymond
  • Shuichi’s Dad: Aaron LaPlante
  • Shuichi’s Mom: Mona Marshall

Here is the official Uzumaki anime voice actors announcement that appeared on social media. It included art of Kirie, Shuichi, and Azami from the show.

https://twitter.com/UzumakiAnime1/status/1809769525577150911

Prior to this reveal, we did get to hear the Japanese voice actors briefly for both Kirie and Shuichi. They appeared in a “first look” trailer for the show that appeared at the 2023 San Diego Comic Con.

While we did get to know about the actors, we still didn’t get a release date for the Production IG show. It has been delayed multiple times since the original alleged 2020 launch window. Most recently, a Japan Times interview with Junji Ito in June 2024 suggested the show would appear on Cartoon Network in 2024.

The Uzumaki anime will apparently air during Cartoon Network’s Toonami block in 2024, and Viz Media handles the manga outside Japan.

Haikyuu: The Dumpster Battle is a fun and satisfying conclusion to the long-running rivalry that exists between the Karasuno and Nekoma teams. However, its heavy focus on Kenma and Nekoma, as well as the structure of the movie, may make it boring for those who have little interest in his character.

Before we start, I’d like to pose a question. How has the movie-going experience been for you since COVID-19? Every movie I watched since then, I've only ever sat next to people who talk or text on their phones. During Haikyuu: The Dumpster Battle, the girls on my left whisper-screamed at the slightest provocation or yelled things like “Shut up, you nerd!” when Kuro was giving his pre-match speech. They only settled down after I shushed them for screaming through Yamaguchi's big moment. But the peace didn’t last for long. The group on my roommate’s right kept talking in a foreign language, as well as mimed the movements of the volleyball players. Like, I get cheering during triumphant scenes and laughing at funny ones. But this is a little ridiculous. As a disclaimer though, because of these distractions, I sometimes had a hard time focusing on the movie.

The plot of Haikyuu: The Dumpster Battle centers on the Karasuno versus Nekoma match during the Spring Nationals. This is a very important match for both teams, as Karasuno and Nekoma have been rivals for quite some time in-universe. This is a showdown that fans have been waiting years to happen. While the manga version of this match also had a heavy focus on Kenma, Kenma fully takes center stage in the theatrical adaptation. The movie starts with a flashback to his first meeting with Hinata, as well his childhood playing volleyball with Kuro. It also gives more insight on Kenma, showing that while he seems apathetic towards volleyball, he would have given it up if he really didn't like it. During his match against Karasuno, he becomes much more determined and fired up to win, which contrasts with how reserved and lethargic he was in the past.

If you like Nekoma or Kenma, you’re going to have a great time with this movie. It’s really all about Kenma and, by association, Kuro. The movie portrayed Kenma's character development really well. Even as someone neutral on him, I loved it. However, if you like Haikyuu!! for the volleyball or you’re not a Kenma fan, this movie might not be your cup of tea. There were some really exciting moments during the match. But flashbacks felt like they made up the greater chunk of the film. The show strikes that perfect balance between volleyball and reminiscing. However, the movie's more limited run time seems to have worked against it. For reference, in the manga, Karasuno’s game with Nekoma ran from chapters 293 to 324. Meanwhile, Shiratorizawa versus Karasuno was chapters 150 to 187, and that had an entire season’s worth of episodes to adapt it.

haikyuu the dumpster battle nekoma and karasuno

Since the movie is a direct continuation of the show, I highly recommend people to watch or catch up to Haikyuu before this movie. The movie had everything that makes Haikyuu such a standout sports anime. It had the cute and lovable characters, the heart-pounding sports action, the funny gags, and the heartwarming writing. But something about it felt off to me. I left the theater thinking that it didn’t really feel like I watched a Haikyuu match. The rallies are faster, for one. They make the game feel more realistic but might have contributed to the "different" feeling. However, I think part of this issue stems from the way the movie strings rallies together with Kenma’s flashbacks serving as a sort of divider block. If this match was an entire season, much like the Shiratorizawa one was, then it might not have felt disted to me.

All of the standout moments from the movie to me were from the game. Tsukishima's blocks, Yamaguchi's serves, the way Kenma plays Karasuno like a fiddle, Kageyama and Hinata's teamwork, Yaku and Noya's saves... The extra care that the animators could put into all of the expressions and movements for the movie made the volleyball segments shine. There was a particular rally near the end that made me incredibly emotional. While Production I.G. did a great job adapting the lengthy arc to the big screen, I personally thought the flashbacks slowed down the pacing of the film. These flashbacks were not so noticeable in the manga and wouldn't have been so out of place in the show.

The bigger screen also made some of the smear frames very obvious. In my theater, I heard some people laughing during the more dramatic moments, likely because of this. It reminded me a bit of how people condemned the Karna versus Siegfried fight in Fate/Apocrypha. That was due to the different animation styles that A-1 Pictures employs compared to ufotable. But as someone who doesn’t really know much about animation or sakuga, I can’t comment on how Production I.G.’s looked.

Haikyuu: The Dumpster Battle was a fun experience for fans of the anime and manga series. But its heavy focus on Kenma might make it a bit boring for people who don’t care much about him. There’s what feels like an entire two minutes of listening to Yuki Kaji (Kenma’s voice actor) ASMR as he breathes into the microphone. However, the scene in question was also a very unique and immersive sequence. Perhaps my more negative opinions about the movie comes from how irritated and distracted I was from the patrons. My roommate, who said she wasn’t bothered by the people around her, said she found the movie perfectly fine. I urge people who want to watch this movie to leave their bad etiquette in the dumpster before going inside.

Haikyuu: The Dumpster Battle came out in Japan on February 16, 2024. Crunchyroll distributed the movie internationally from May 30, 2024.

Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and many other action anime series follow a similar trope (you know the one if you’ve watched them), and it works. But too many series lean into this realm, sometimes not handling the concept as well, and it is beginning to show. Such is the case with the latest Spring 2024 anime series Kaiju No 8.

The first episode of Kaiju No 8 honestly gripped me from the beginning to almost the end of the premiere. This was largely due to the main character Kafka Hibino. In his version of modern-day Earth, kaiju (large monsters like Godzilla) attack on the regular. He is part of the unfortunate clean-up crew who doesn’t fight these monsters, but rather takes care of the mess left behind by the Defense Force team that does.

As you can imagine, this leads to some gruesome and disgusting sequences as Hibino cleans up intestines, brains, and other disturbing matter after the Defense Force takes out a kaiju. This actually intrigued me, as it was so funny and engrossing (or rather, gross-ing in some cases). I enjoyed the idea of a show focusing on someone who was essentially this janitor for the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force.

However, it didn’t stop there. The end of the show made it clear this was never going to be what the series is about. Instead, it is indeed about high octane action as soldiers try to defeat these kaiju. Without spoiling too much, it certainly ends in a ridiculous manner that doesn’t land as well as some of the other iterations of this idea in the past.

To Kaiju No 8’s credit, the anime remained funny even after the yawn-inducing trope, which gives me some hope. After all, it still seems like Hibino will be at the center of the series and is the same goofy, lackadaisical guy as before. In addition, I am curious to see more about his backstory. The first episode hints at some connections between Hibino and a certain other star who is an established member of the team tackling kaiju. I look forward to see where that heads down the line.

My only concern is how Kaiju No 8 anime will handle the final twist from the premiere. So many of these series go down the same route of character dealing with this unfortunate incident and the response of everyone against them. I have already seen that so many times now. It would be best if this series just made the twist a natural thing and everyone got to business.

For now, we will have to wait and see on that front. At least the animation quality seems promise. This series has solid, modern designs, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously here, either. The characters are a bit off and goofy, which help lend to the tone. But the animation studio Production I.G. knows when to show off in the action sequences. Even the 3D of the kaiju, which I don’t always love in anime, doesn’t look too noticeable or bad here.

I look forward to watching more of the Kaiju No 8 anime, but I hope it doesn’t lean too much into the idea of trying to replace the greats that are ending soon like Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and My Hero Academia. It works best when it leans into its own humorous identity.

Kaiju No. 8 is streaming right now on Crunchyroll.

Psycho- Replica Watch Will Make You Want a Wristlink

Movic will release two Psycho- replica watches based on the Wristlink from the anime series as part of its 10th-anniversary celebration. The Psycho- replica watches will be available for pre-order until January 31, 2024, and are set to release on May 3, 2024. [Thanks, PR Times!]

The two Psycho- replica watches are designed off of the Wristlink found in the anime series, so the face of the watch is meant to give the impression that a hologram could appear. The wristband of the watches can stretch, allowing fans to wear the watch over the sleeve of their clothing or against their skin.

The Psycho- replica watches come in two styles: the Supervisor version and the Executive Officer version. The Supervisor version of the Psycho- replica watch features a sleek silver design with a matte texture. It comes with a single chronograph that measures seconds.

The Executive officer version of the Psycho- replica watch features a glossy black design that gives off the vibes of a handcuff. It has a simple watch face with hour, minute, and second hands. Each watch will come packed inside a box with the logo of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Public Safety Bureau stamped in foil on the top.

Images of the watches can be viewed below:

[gallery columns="2" size="full" link="file" ids="1004723,1004724,1004725,1004726,1004727,1004728,1004729,1004730,1004731,1004732"]

The Psycho- replica watches are made-to-order for every customer who orders one, but additional watches may be sold after production. The watches can be pre-ordered from Animate stores in Japan, Animate Online Shop, and directly from Movic. The watches will cost ¥19,800 (~$140 USD).

Psycho- began airing in Japan in 2012 and finished in 2013. The series is a psychological crime thriller set in a dystopian future where the citizens of Japan have their biometrics and psychological state monitored by a computer network called the Sibyl System, allowing the Public Safety Bureau to apprehend people who may potentially commit a crime.

Psycho-: Providence, the latest movie entry to the anime series, was released in Japan on May 12, 2023, and in North America on July 14, 2023. The Psycho- replica watches will be released on May 3, 2024.

Uzumaki Anime Trailer Features Kirie and Shuichi

At the 2023 San Diego Comic Con, a new trailer for the Uzumaki anime featuring leads Kirie Goshima and Shuichi Saito appeared. It showed off the distinctive black and white design and animation direction for the show. It also offered a chance to hear their Japanese voice actors.

Here's the trailer showing Uzumaki's Kirie and Shuichi walking through the streets of Kurozu-cho. He suggests the two of them leave town, citing the recent widespread appearances of spirals and discussing what's happening to his father. Kirie doesn’t seem to take it all seriously. It ends with the town’s siren going off and Shuichi expressing his discomfort with it all.

However, there's still no exact release window for the Uzumaki anime. It was supposed to appear in 2021. It was delayed to 2022 after that. We may get to eventually see it in 2023. The one thing we do know is that Junji Ito will make a cameo appearace in it.

This is one of two Adult Swim SDCC 2023 reveals. A preview for Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo creator Shinichirō Watanabe's Lazarus showed up too.

The Uzumaki anime will eventually air on Adult Swim's Toonami block of shows. The manga is available in English via Viz Media.

Ultraman Final Season 3 anime Airs on Netflix in May

Soon, more of Tsuburaya Productions and Production I.G.'s Ultraman anime will appear. Back in April 2022, Netflix noted season 3 of Ultraman will be its final one and it would release in 2023. Now there's an official release date. It will begin streaming on the service on May 11, 2023. There's also a new key visual showing off Ultraman.

Here's the official Netflix announcement, which includes the latest key art for the final season 3 of Ultraman.

To help catch up, Netflix also shared an official teaser back in February. It offers hints at what Shinjiro Hayata, this series’ Ultraman, dealt with in the past and will face in the future. It poses a number of existential questions as Shinjiro considers who he is and what he's doing.

Ultraman Final

Tsuburaya Productions promoted the full trailer for the third and last season of Netflix's Ultraman animated series. Formally titled Ultraman Final, the season will conclude the story of Shinjiro Hayata and the Ultraman Suits. The series streams on Netflix, with the last season set to debut in Spring 2023.

Check it out below.

Note: The Ultraman Final trailer and the description below contains spoilers for Ultraman Season 1 and 2. 1i205t

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2_cxz-VmFc

The Ultraman Final anime shows Shinjiro in a moment of crisis. His powers are growing out of control and devastating the city. In one incident Shinjiro sees himself grown to the size of a Giant of Light (the original Ultraman), despite not wearing the Ultraman suit, and facing off against Zetton. Public opinion has turned against Shinjiro as Ultraman, and even other suit-wearers are hunting him down. Meanwhile alien forces are taking action, among them villains called Mephisto and Valcure.

The new aliens introduced for Ultraman Final are called Mephisto and Valcure. They appear to be original creations, although Mephisto's design appears similar to that of Alien Mefilas from the classic shows. Valcure is voiced by MAO, who also voiced Iris in Fire Force, Shion in That Time I Reincarnated As A Slime, and Pecorine in Princess Connect! Re: Dive. Mephisto is voiced by Koji Ishii, who also played Fisher Tiger in One Piece, and Ba'gamnan in Final Fantasy XII. The show itself is co-directed by the pair of Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, who also worked on Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045 and Blade Runner: Black Lotus.

Ultraman Final will debut on Netflix in Spring 2023. The first two seasons are readily available. Threezero recently announced a figure based on the Ultraman Tiga suit Power Type.

Netflix Shared Ultraman Season 2 Opening

Season 2 of Ultraman is coming to Netflix next week, and ahead of its debut the opening appeared. This is a clean version of the show’s introduction. That means there are no credits getting in the way of scenes taken from the series. It also offers a chance for people to hear more of the theme song “3,” which is performed by Noilion.

The Ultraman opening features a number of returning characters. The series, which comes from Production I.G. and Tsuburaya Productions, stars the new Ultraman Shinjiro Hayata. Alongside people like Ace, Jack, Seven, Taro, and Zoffy, the group fights aliens. Some of these events are teased in the video.

People don’t have to wait until the show arrives to get Noilion’s “3.” The group already released the song back in January 2022. It is available to both buy and stream via places like Amazon and Spotify.

The opening isn't the only detail we know about the series. For example, we know one of the newest of the cast is Maaya Sakamoto. Tsuburaya also noted there will be six episodes. However, the ending theme for the second season hasn't been revealed yet.

Ultraman season 2 will debut on Netflix on April 14, 2022.

Ultraman Season 2 Netflix

Netflix announced that Ultraman Season 2 will debut in 2022. It also revealed a teaser poster featuring the titular Ultra 6 Brothers. During the TUDUM Global Fan Event hosted by Netflix, Ryohei Kimura, who voices the protagonist Shinjiro Hayata, announced the season's release alongside the teaser art.

https://twitter.com/NetflixGeeked/status/1441749329140588555

Ultraman is set years after the events of the original Ultraman series, with the "Giant of Light" believed to have left the earth after fighting various invading monsters. The series follows Shinjiro Hayata, the son of the original "Ultraman" Shin Hayata. Released back in 2019, the first season focused on Shinjiro's newly awakened powers and its connection to his father's legacy.

A previous teaser trailer revealed that Ultraman Season 2 would feature at least three of the Ultra 6 Brothers: Seven, Ace, and Taro. However, the new teaser poster reveals that all six , including Zoffy and Jack, will also make appearances.

The Ultra 6 Brothers are the original team of Ultramen. They made their first appearance over 50 years ago during the original run of Ultraman. Though the team had various configurations throughout time, Ultraman, Zoffy, Jack, Ace, Seven, and Taro are the most common . They will "finally reunite" in the next season — though in the new Ultraman Suits versions rather than the authentic Ultramen.

Netflix announced earlier this year that a CG-animated Ultraman film is in development. Netflix is working on the movie with Tsuburaya Productions, the studio that originally created the Ultraman series.

Ultraman Season 2 will debut on Netflix globally sometime in 2022.
