Persona 4 Golden PC Update Adds Social Link Album, Quick Save

A new website registration may suggest that a Persona 4 remake is in development. On March 20, 2025, the domain p4re.jp was ed, though going to the site currently leads to a dead end. It is not known which company or individual ed the address. This follows Atlus' Persona 3 Reload.

If you go to the website p3re.jp, it leads to the official Japanese website for the Persona 3 remake called Persona 3 Reload. The remake launched early in 2024, and it was followed by the release of the Episode Aegis DLC that added content originally found in the Persona 3 FES PS2 game. The website domain was ed a few months before Atlus announced Persona 3 Reload, and about a year before it was released.

The popularity of both the Persona series, and Persona 3 Reload, as well as the similarity of the freshly ed domain to Persona 3 Reload’s website, has led some to believe that the p4re.jp domain has been ed for an unrevealed, Persona 4 remake. However, there is no concrete evidence and no official announcement from Atlus or Sega about a new version of Persona 4.

Persona 4 was first released for PS2 in 2008, and an updated version called Persona 4 Golden launched in 2012 for PlayStation Vita. Golden was ported to PC in 2020, and it later showed up on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S in 2023.

The Steam Spring Sale can often be overwhelming, with thousands of titles slashed in price, it can be hard to figure out which games are a good deal. There is also the problem of choice, and gamers don’t want to spend their hard earned cash on a game they don’t like. If you’re an RPG fan, then we’ve rounded up ten of the best RPGs in the Steam Spring Sale that are worth both your time and money.

Here are our recommendations for the best value RPGs in the Steam Spring Sale.

Chrono Trigger 2i592n

Chrono Trigger is one of the best games of all time, and while the Steam version isn’t the best, this Steam Spring Sale discount is still a bargain. One of the most iconic turn-based RPGs, Chrono Trigger is about exploring time periods, and getting dragged into a quest far bigger than yourself. With seven recruitable characters, and 12 different endings, Chrono Trigger set up many features that great RPGs use to this day.

Chrono Trigger is available for $3.74 until the end of the Steam Spring Sale.

Yakuza 0 142m2b

Screenshot from Yakuza 0. Akira Nishikiyama and Kazuma Kiryu stand with their backs to the camera. They have no shirts on and their yakuza tattoos are just black outlines.

All of the Yakuza games are available during the Steam Spring Sale, but we recommend Yakuza 0 as a starting point if you haven’t played anything from the series. Yakuza 0 is not only chronologically the first game in the series, telling the back story to two of the series’ main characters Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima, but it’s also one of the best. This action RPG series is one that every RPG fan should try.

Yakuza 0 costs just $10.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Persona 4 Golden 375965

Like the Yakuza series, the modern Persona series including recent releases like Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio, are all available during the Steam Spring Sale, but we’re recommending Persona 4 Golden. It’s one of the lesser played games in the series as it was a PlayStation Vita exclusive for almost a decade, and as all Persona games are standalone stories, it’s a great place to dive in. This turn-based RPG asks you to strengthen your friendships to unlock your true power.

Persona 4 Golden can be bought for just $11.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix 2p16s

Screenshot from Kingdom Hearts. Sora, Aladdin and Donald Duck are fighting some heartless in Agrabah.

This one is more expensive than most games on this list, but it also includes four Kingdom Hearts games and two movies. Another classic RPG series, Kingdom Hearts blends Final Fantasy and Disney characters in an action RPG with a completely unique battle system. The Remix collection includes the first two mainline games as well as Birth By Sleep, Re:chain of Memories, and a cutscene collection from 358/2, and Re:coded. It’s a great starting point in the series.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix costs $29.99 until the end of the Steam Spring Sale.

Final Fantasy VII 171d2g

When it comes to classic RPGs there isn’t anything more iconic than Final Fantasy VII. You can also purchase the remakes during the Steam Spring Sale, but the original game is available at an incredible price. Take on the epic adventure, which sees Cloud and his clan travel across the continent, visiting different towns and cultures, and discovering who the true enemy is along the way, with a deep turn-based battle system.

The original Final Fantasy VII is just $4.79 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Nier: Automata 27205w

If you like RPGs that challenge your preconceptions, and break the fourth wall with unexpected twists, then action RPG Nier: Automata is for you. Not only does it look gorgeous even with its fast-paced combat system, but it combines this with its well-built world, and engaging storyline. With multiple endings that require multiple playthroughs to see them all, Nier: Automata asks you to question what you believe about the genre.

Nier: Automata costs just $15.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Live A Live 4v294

A gorgeous 2DHD remake of a classic turn-based RPG, Live A Live tells eight separate stories across different time periods, protagonists, and gaming genres, before they all align for one final adventure. Live A Live is a fighting game, a tower defense game, a stealth game, and a visual novel as well as an RPG, and it blends everything together beautifully and seamlessly. A must-play older game that everyone should experience.

Live A Live is available for $19.99 until the end of the Steam Spring Sale.

Lies of P 2y1y3z

A more modern game than most on this list – hence the price – we’ve added Lies of P as our soulslike of choice as it’s a great entry point for this subsection of the RPG genre. Far more story heavy than other soulslike games, Lies of P tells a steampunk Pinocchio story with challenging combat, and choices that have major outcomes on the story.

Lies of P is on sale for $35.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Trails of Cold Steel 17145

Starting in 1989, there are few series that are as long-lasting as The Legend of Heroes, and almost all of these games are on offer as part of the Steam Spring Sale. Trails of Cold Steel is one of the best games to jump into as it includes a four game story arc with a satisfying start and end. Once you get into the turn-based RPG series there are so many other games to explore that your wallet might just regret grabbing this first game.

Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel currently costs $19.99 during the Steam Spring Sale.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch 283m6h

One of the most popular RPGs from the PS3 era, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch combines whimsical storytelling, and the gorgeous art style of Studio Ghibli. Evocative voice acting brings the whole world to life as you feel as if you are living in a Ghibli movie while playing this turn-based RPG. This is the perfect game if you’re looking for somewhere whimsical to get lost in and escape.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch costs $7.49 during the Steam Spring Sale.

The Steam Spring Sale is on now, and ends on March 20.

Persona 4 Golden Melody Clock

Atlus has revealed a new wall clock that will be able to play songs from Persona 4 Golden. The company is working with Square Enix to release this clock, as pre-orders for the item opened on the latter's Japanese e-Store. The Persona 4 Golden Melody Clock will be available in February 2025 with a price tag of 16,280 yen (~$112.75).

This clock will come with the ability to play a song every hour when the minute hand reaches the 12 o'clock mark. However, it will also have a light sensor to determine whether it can play the song or not. If the room gets dark, the clock will not play the song to not disturb people sleeping, for example.

Here is the full list of 12 songs that Atlus will feature in this clock:

  1. Pursuing My True Self
  2. Signs Of Love
  3. Your Affection
  4. Heartbeat, Heartbreak
  5. Reach Out To The Truth
  6. I'll Face Myself -Battle-
  7. Shadow World
  8. Time To Make History
  9. Heaven
  10. The Fog
  11. The Poem for Everyone's Souls
  12. Never More

While most of the Persona 4 merchandise features character plushes and Persona figures, there has also been other unique merchandise revealed earlier. An example of this was the sake bottle featuring Teddie which appeared in 2023.

Square Enix will release Atlus' Persona 4 Golden Melody Clock in Japan on February 1, 2025.

FiFS Illustration Exhibition Plus will feature Persona 3 4 5 and more

FiFS, the Japanese illustrator unit that helped create illustrations and manga adaptations for Atlus' Persona series, will hold its own exhibition in Harajuku. The FiFS Illustration Exhibition Plus will run from mid-March 2024 to early April 2024 and include art from Persona 3, 4, and 5.

The exhibition will run in two separate time blocks. The first part will run on March 16-25, 2024, and it will feature illustrations from Prince of Stride and Magical Boy XV. The second part will have some of those illustrations swapped with FiFS' other original works from March 30, 2024, to April 8, 2024. FiFS will showcase the Persona series illustrations on both parts throughout the whole event duration. People can visit the exhibition free of charge from 12pm to 8pm JST, but it will not be available on Wednesdays since the day is a regular holiday for the venue.

FiFS is an illustration unit formed by Shuji Sogabe and Kanako Nono. The illustrators were involved in the manga adaptations of Persona 3 and Persona 4. The pair had also contributed to producing art for Persona 3 Reload, Persona 5 Royal, Persona 5 Strikers, and Persona 5 Tactica. Other than Atlus' Persona series, the unit also designed characters for Bandai Namco's The Idolmaster SideM and Super Robot Wars 30.

FiFS Illustration Exhibition Plus will take place at ACG_Labo in Harajuku, Tokyo, Japan, from March 16, 2024, to April 8, 2024.

Best Persona Character

The Persona series has always had a wide cast of characters. Whether you loved them or hated them, they often left an impression. Below, we've made a list of who we think could be the best Persona character in the series. Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.

Don't get mad at me, but Yosuke from Persona 4 is the best character. Why might that be? I think he's a character who undergoes a lot of growth. He starts out hypersensitive about what people think about him and wants to prove himself as somebody worthy of attention rather than derision.

He can be rather bigoted over things he doesn't understand, and many of his jokes come at the expense of hurting other's feelings, but as Persona 4 progresses, he learns how to let go of his prejudices and become a genuine friend. He's loyal, goofy, and always striving to do the right thing. He's a dumb teenager, but he's also a dumb teenager who cares about others. Also, he has a disco frog as a Persona, and that's really neat. — Arielle

I might get flak for this one, but my favorite character in Persona is actually Rise Kujikawa from Persona 4. I know, at first glance, she's the typical pop idol, but her story really resonated with me. At first, Rise is a bubbly celebrity who beams with energy. But then we quickly learn that she's actually struggling with her happiness and the image she has to project for others.

I think a lot of us can relate to this idea of having to act "happy" for the sake of others. Her arc is emotionally impactful to me because she eventually finds her voice and starts to live for herself and not others. And while I usually play with Japanese audio, I actually think Laura Bailey did an amazing job voicing her in the English Dub. — Brent

For all I go on and on about Akechi in Persona 5, I think Kanji from Persona 4 is the best character from the series. He's kind of a goof and gets a bit too much flack from Yosuke for no reason, but I think he's such a sweet character with lots of cool and hilarious scenes. He can do it all! I like how he got more comfortable with himself as you progressed through his storyline and his dynamic with the other first-year characters. Kanji deserves better! — Stephanie

I like Shinji a lot in Persona 3. To be clear, especially in Persona 3 Portable and during the Kotone Shiomi route. He's had to deal with so much, but he's still fighting and doing all that he can to cope and make amends. (Even though he honestly didn't do anything wrong, and what happened wasn't his fault.) Aragaki is great! — Jenni

Persona 4 Golden Izanagi Figure

Megahouse revealed more information about the new Persona 4 Golden figure of Izanagi. The figure costs ¥28,380 yen (or about $192), and it is expected to release on March 2024 in Japan. Pre-orders for the new Izanagi figure will open on September 8, 2023 at 1pm JST, and it will be available from the Bandai online store.

The new Izanagi statue belongs to the Game Characters Collection DX line of figures. This is version 2 of the original character figure, which appeared originally on January 2012. This new version was revealed as an unpainted prototype back in late May 2023.

The figure depicts the Persona in a combat pose, surrounded by blue flames. These flames are a characteristic visual in the Persona games that occurs when a character summons their Persona.

You can take a better look at the new Persona 4 Golden Izanagi version 2 statue here:

You can take a better look at the new Persona 4 Golden Izanagi version 2 statue here: [gallery size="medium" ids="982909,982910,982911,982912,982913,982914" link="file"] Izanagi is the starting Persona of the Persona 4 protagonist, Yu Narukami, and as such is a very popular character. Persona 4 sake

Nexus will collaborate with Atlus to release a sake based on Persona 4. Pre-orders are open via the Sake Tsunagi online shop. The sake is a junmai daiginjo, which is a traditional Japanese rice wine. It costs 4,500 JPY (around $32.15) per bottle, and Tsunagi will start sending them out from July 10, 2023. It does not seem to offer international shipping.

The Persona 4 sake bottle has a picture of Teddie on it. There is also a Konishi Liquor Store stamp on the bottle. This is a reference to the store of the same name in Persona 4. The name of the Persona 4 sake is “Junmai Daiginjo Yasoinaba.” For reference, Yasoinaba is the name of the town that the protagonist moves to in the beginning of the game. The Yasoinaba has a bright, sweet, and fruity flavor that tastes best cold.

Persona 4 first came out in 2008 for the PS2. It follows the story of the unnamed protagonist, who moves to the boonies town of Yasoinaba for a year. A series of bizarre murders rock Yasoinaba at the same time. The protagonist and his friends discover that the murders are being committed using a mysterious TV World, which they can also enter. Nexus suggests that fans who spent their summers uncovering the murder mystery as students of Yasogami High School can relive their Yasoinaba days with this wine.

The Persona 4 sake is available for pre-order via Sake Tsunagi and will ship out from July 10, 2023 in Japan. Persona 4 appeared on the PS2, while Persona 4 Golden is on the PS4, Vita, Switch, Xbox One, and PC.

Persona 4 Golden Izanagi Figure ing Game Characters Collection DX Line

As part of the MegaHobby Plus 2023 Early Summer announcements, MegaHouse revealed a new Persona 4 Golden Izanagi figure. This will be a new take on Yu Narukami’s signature Persona. It will be part of the Game Characters Collection DX line. However, only an unpainted prototype appeared, and there’s no release date for it yet.

Here’s a closer look at the unpainted prototype. It will be 200mm tall, which is almost eight inches.

This is version 2 of the character. The original Izanagi ed the Game Characters Collection DX lineup back in January 2012. However, it also eventually got a rerelease two years later in 2014.

MegaHouse often creates figures of characters from the Persona series and their Personas. For example, earlier in 2023 it showed off the Persona 5 Royal Loki one that is also in the Game Characters Collection DX line.

The Game Characters Collection DX Persona 4 Golden Izanagi figure is in development. Persona 4 is available on the PS2, while Persona 4 Golden is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and PC.

Persona is a series that's done super well for Atlus over the years. Basically, a Shin Megami Tensei spin-off turned into an IP that is more recognizable to some than the original RPGs that spawned it. This does mean it might seem a bit overwhelming to hop into the series. Especially since there are numbered installments and spin-offs. However, it's all really quite approachable, and it isn't too difficult to jump in if you're wondering how to start playing through the Persona games.

How to Get Started with the Persona Series

How to Play the Mainline Persona Games in Order 1d4f3o

First, here is the full list of Persona games. Only certain entries really should be played in order.

You should play Revelations: Persona/SMT Persona before Persona 2: Innocent Sin, then Innocent Sin before Eternal Punishment. There are overarching elements that all tie together here, as well as recurring characters.

With the later Persona games, it’s best to start with a Persona 3 entry, then move on to Persona 4 and 5. However, all three are completely self-contained, so you don’t have to play them all in order or worry about losing context if you only choose to go through one.

  • Revelations: Persona (PSX) or Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP)
  • Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSX, PSP) - The PSX version only appeared in Japan.
  • Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PSX, PSP) - The PSP version only appeared in Japan.
  • Persona 3 (PS2), Persona 3 FES (PS2), or Persona 3 Portable (PS4, PSP, Switch, Xbox One, XSX, PC) - I’d recommend Persona 3 FES, as it is the fullest experience, but Persona 3 Portable is the easiest one to find and play now.
  • Persona 4 (PS2) or Persona 4 Golden (PS4, Switch, Vita, Xbox One, XSX, PC) - Go with Persona 4 Golden here, as it is the easiest to find and features the most lore and gameplay.
  • Persona 5 (PS3, PS4) or Persona 5 Royal (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, XSX, PC) - Persona 5 Royal is the smart choice here, as it’s available on more platforms and includes additional story elements.

How to Play the Persona Games in Order Persona 5 Strikers

But What About the Persona Game Spin-Offs? 6ak5c

Okay, this isn’t too tricky. Mainly, because only one line of spin-offs actually has a consistent story to it. Even though the Dancing and Q games are considered sequels, there’s no overarching story.

Persona 4 Arena 6k1q2t

These are the fighting games with Persona 3 and 4 characters. Ultimax takes place after the original, so play them in order to get the full story! Though if you’re getting one of the more modern remasters of Ultimax, you’re good and can already go through things properly in order.

  1. Persona 4 Arena (PS3, Xbox 360) -
  2. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, PC) -

Persona Dancing 3u3y65

All of the Persona Dancing entries are rhythm games. A good rule of thumb is to play the ones for entries whose soundtracks you enjoyed most.

  1. Persona 4: Dancing All Night (PS4, Vita) - As this is the entry with a story mode, you’ll want to play it first.
  2. Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight (PS4, Vita) or Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight (PS4, Vita) - As these entries aren’t as story heavy and “take place” at the same time, you can go with whichever entry’s music you prefer first.

Persona Q 3w1a6s

These are essentially Persona takes on the Etrian Odyssey dungeon-mapping formula. Each installment is self-contained. So play the original if you only like the Persona 3 and 4 characters, and go into Persona Q2 if you like the Persona 3, 4 and 5 folks. The sequel does build on mechanics, so you may want to go with that second if you play both.

  • Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (3DS)
  • Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth (3DS)

Persona 5 Strikers 1e72r

This is a weird one too! It takes place after Persona 5. Not Persona 5 Royal, to be specific. It’s a Musou-style beat’em up, so play and beat Persona 5 before getting into this PS4, Switch, and PC game for the best experience.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Persona SMT

The Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will gather a large amount of dungeon-crawling content for players to enjoy when it releases, but Sega and Atlus want to sweeten the pot with some fan service. That fan service is targeted towards those familiar with the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series, as early purchases of the Etrian Odyssey Origins bundle in Japan will include Persona and SMT character DLC. [Thanks, Dengeki!]

During a February 9, 2023 broadcast about the remastered games, Sega and Atlus revealed that early purchases and pre-orders of the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection would receive an Atlus Collaboration Adventurer Illustration Pack. This DLC pack will unlock the ability to change the appearance of any party member to one from various Atlus works. The visual customization will feature renderings of characters from Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Soul Hackers 2 in the distinctive character style used in Etrian Odyssey.

Each game in the Etrian Odyssey Origins trilogy will have two character art unlocks from the DLC.

  • The remastered Etrian Odyssey will unlock character sprites based on Ringo from Soul Hackers 2 and Joker from Persona 5.
  • The Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard remaster will unlock sprites based on Demi-fiend from Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Teddie from Persona 4.
  • The remaster of Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City will have character sprites to make an adventurer look like Nahobino from Shin Megami Tensei V or Aigis from Persona 3.

Additionally, early Switch physical editions of the Etrian Odyssey Origins bundle will include a stylus that works on the Switch's touch screen. Since they were DS-based titles, the original Etrian Odyssey games were famous for having players use the handheld's built-in stylus to draw and mark out maps of the dungeons, highlighting threats and ages.

The Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will launch on the Nintendo Switch and PC on June 1, 2023. The games will also be sold separately.

persona 4 teddie figure

A small zinc alloy figure of Teddie from Persona 4 will be come out in June 2023. You can pre-order him from Ebten, though it does not seem to offer international shipping. The metal Teddie figure will cost 4,950 JPY, which is approximately $38.20.

The Teddie figure looks like him in his bear suit. It does not appear like you can open him up and use him as a case, nor can you take out his human form. Because of the material of the figure, Teddie is shiny. According to Ebten, you can use him as decoration and because of his small size, he would fit well on a desk.

In Persona 4, Teddie is one of your party , as well as your navigator before you get Rise. He loves puns and has a very childish personality. Teddie is also a bit of a narcissist and takes great pride in his soft and pretty fur. But even if Teddie would be sad that he is no longer as nice to pet, he would find the silver lining in the situation.

The Persona 4 metal Teddie figure is open for pre-order and will come out in June 2023. Persona 4 Golden is readily available for the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Game , Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.
