A brand new Persona themed cookbook is heading to the United States. Persona: The Official Cookbook will bring recipes to make famous meals from the Persona games in readers' own kitchens on September 23, 2025. It will cost $27.99 for the hardcover and $10 for the Kindle version.

It will contain 55 recipes for fans to try out. This will include recipes for everything from the Master Curry and Coffee from Leblanc in Persona 5, to Persona 4's Rainy Day Mega Beef Bowl Challenge. As of now, the full list of recipes is unknown but the description for the cookbook mentions that options like Chies's fsteak skewers and the Mystery Food X will be on the table.

The cookbook is written by Jarrett Melendez, who, in addition to writing numerous themed cookbooks for series like Pokémon, Runescape, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has also been a contributor to Bon Appetit and other food-centric online publications.

The Persona series is no stranger to food related collaborations. In September 2024, a special craft cola called "Sea of Souls" inspired by Persona 3: Reload was released. In addition, a Lucrea figure based on Persona 5 Royal's pancake-loving detective Goro Akechi will once again be available to purchase in August 2025.

Persona: the Official Cookbook will be available on September 23, 2025.

Walmart Memorial Day Games Sale Includes Pokemon, Persona 3 Reload

The Persona series contains some of the best JRPGs of all time. However, even the Persona games can still be ranked accordingly.

When ranking the Persona games, it's important to clarify that we’re considering only the best version of each title. Therefore, remakes or enhanced editions are what we’ll be focusing on. We're also sticking to only main entry titles, so no spinoffs here.

Also, fair warning—there's a notable shift in the series starting with Persona 3. While some fans are nostalgic for the earlier games, I believe the series reached new heights with the later entries. So, if you're a fan of the older style, this list might not entirely align with your preferences.

Persona Ranked from Worst to Best 3t6l3r

Image via Atlus

6. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona

The PSP remake of the original Persona offers a better English localization and restored content that was missing from the original Western release. While the game introduces some interesting ideas, its age is evident in the gameplay and storytelling. The pacing can be sluggish, and it lacks the polish and depth of later entries. Still, it’s worth playing to see where the series began, but it’s clear that everything that follows improves upon it.

Image via Atlus

5. Persona 2: Innocent Sin

Innocent Sin improves on almost every aspect of the original Persona. The cast is more developed, and the story is richer and more engaging. However, like its predecessor, it shows its age, especially in of gameplay mechanics. This is also the game that famously features Hitler, which is a major talking point for many. Despite its flaws, it’s a significant step up from the original but still falls short of the series' later masterpieces.

4. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

Unlike Innocent Sin, the PSP remake of Eternal Punishment never made it to the West. Among the early Persona titles, this is undoubtedly the best. The story is exceptional, potentially even suring some of the later games in the series. The cast is phenomenal, and the narrative is gripping from start to finish. However, the game’s age and outdated mechanics hold it back. It’s a gem from the past, but it feels very much like a product of its time.

3. Persona 3 Reload The remake of Persona 3 adds modern polish to a game that was already a turning point for the series. The cast and story are top-notch, with themes that delve into darkness and mortality. The blend of social simulation and dungeon crawling was unique at the time and set the stage for future entries. While it sits right in the middle of this list, it’s a game that deserves every bit of praise it receives for being the bridge between the older and newer Persona games.

2. Persona 5 Royal Here’s where things might get controversial—Persona 5 Royal lands in the number two spot. It undeniably has the best dungeons in the series, the most refined gameplay, and a stylish presentation that’s unmatched. The music, visual design, and the heist-themed story arc are all top-tier. However, while the Phantom Thieves are a great cast, they don’t quite reach the depth of the characters in the top spot on this list. It’s an almost perfect JRPG with endless content to explore, but it just misses out on the top spot.

Image via Atlus

1. Persona 4 Golden Persona 4 Golden takes the crown as the best Persona game. The cast is unforgettable, with deep character development and relationships that feel incredibly real. The story balances light and dark themes masterfully, and the rural setting gives the game a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from the others. The murder mystery plot keeps you hooked from beginning to end, and the emotional beats hit hard. Persona 4 Golden is where the series truly perfected its formula, making it the best entry in the franchise.

In the end, the Persona series is one of those rare franchises where even the "worst" game is still a good experience. Each entry has its unique strengths, and while they may differ in gameplay style and storytelling approach, they all share a common thread of deep character development, compelling narratives, and unforgettable experiences.

qset+ persona 5 protagonist figure

Good Smile Company has opened up pre-orders of QSet+ figures for the Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 Protagonists. Pre-orders will close on May 29, 2024.

Each figure costs 2500 JPY, or $15.99. Those in Japan will get it some time in October 2024. Meanwhile, those in North America will get it in Q1 2025. As a reminder, due to licensing restrictions, Good Smile Company only ships to Canada and the United States.

QSet+ figures are small, using a chibi design, and stand at around 80 millimeters in height. They usually include a diorama based on or inspired by the series they come from. In the case of the Persona Protagonists, the QSet+ figures feature them sitting in chairs that are a dark purple color. This is likely a reference to the Velvet Room, in which the characters will sit while conducting business with Igor.

As a note, the Persona 3 Protagonist will use his design from Portable. There are minor differences between the original version and the one in Reload. He has his signature headphones around his neck, whereas the Persona 5 Protagonist is holding a pair of handcuffs. The Persona 4 Golden Protagonist is sitting while leaning his cheek against his hand. He doesn’t have his glasses on.

The Persona Protagonists QSet+ figures are available for pre-order until May 29, 2024.

In addition to everything in the Grimoire Edition, it gives people the soundtrack CD, a set of trading cards, an All Out Attack 3D shadowbox showing Yu, Chie, Yukiko, and Yosuke, a Teddie metal statuette, a Midnight Channel pin, and Yu’s glasses on a display stand.

As a reminder, Limited Run Games offered these sorts of options with a Persona physical release before. It did the same for Persona 3 Portable, with one edition including an Evoker.

Persona 4 Golden is available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. People can pre-order the Persona 4 Golden physical copies for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One/Xbox Series X until December 10, 2023.

Persona 4 Golden Izanagi Figure ing Game Characters Collection DX Line

As part of the MegaHobby Plus 2023 Early Summer announcements, MegaHouse revealed a new Persona 4 Golden Izanagi figure. This will be a new take on Yu Narukami’s signature Persona. It will be part of the Game Characters Collection DX line. However, only an unpainted prototype appeared, and there’s no release date for it yet.

Here’s a closer look at the unpainted prototype. It will be 200mm tall, which is almost eight inches.

This is version 2 of the character. The original Izanagi ed the Game Characters Collection DX lineup back in January 2012. However, it also eventually got a rerelease two years later in 2014.

MegaHouse often creates figures of characters from the Persona series and their Personas. For example, earlier in 2023 it showed off the Persona 5 Royal Loki one that is also in the Game Characters Collection DX line.

The Game Characters Collection DX Persona 4 Golden Izanagi figure is in development. Persona 4 is available on the PS2, while Persona 4 Golden is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and PC.

Persona is a series that's done super well for Atlus over the years. Basically, a Shin Megami Tensei spin-off turned into an IP that is more recognizable to some than the original RPGs that spawned it. This does mean it might seem a bit overwhelming to hop into the series. Especially since there are numbered installments and spin-offs. However, it's all really quite approachable, and it isn't too difficult to jump in if you're wondering how to start playing through the Persona games.

How to Get Started with the Persona Series

How to Play the Mainline Persona Games in Order 1d4f3o

First, here is the full list of Persona games. Only certain entries really should be played in order.

You should play Revelations: Persona/SMT Persona before Persona 2: Innocent Sin, then Innocent Sin before Eternal Punishment. There are overarching elements that all tie together here, as well as recurring characters.

With the later Persona games, it’s best to start with a Persona 3 entry, then move on to Persona 4 and 5. However, all three are completely self-contained, so you don’t have to play them all in order or worry about losing context if you only choose to go through one.

  • Revelations: Persona (PSX) or Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP)
  • Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSX, PSP) - The PSX version only appeared in Japan.
  • Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PSX, PSP) - The PSP version only appeared in Japan.
  • Persona 3 (PS2), Persona 3 FES (PS2), or Persona 3 Portable (PS4, PSP, Switch, Xbox One, XSX, PC) - I’d recommend Persona 3 FES, as it is the fullest experience, but Persona 3 Portable is the easiest one to find and play now.
  • Persona 4 (PS2) or Persona 4 Golden (PS4, Switch, Vita, Xbox One, XSX, PC) - Go with Persona 4 Golden here, as it is the easiest to find and features the most lore and gameplay.
  • Persona 5 (PS3, PS4) or Persona 5 Royal (PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, XSX, PC) - Persona 5 Royal is the smart choice here, as it’s available on more platforms and includes additional story elements.

How to Play the Persona Games in Order Persona 5 Strikers

But What About the Persona Game Spin-Offs? 6ak5c

Okay, this isn’t too tricky. Mainly, because only one line of spin-offs actually has a consistent story to it. Even though the Dancing and Q games are considered sequels, there’s no overarching story.

Persona 4 Arena 6k1q2t

These are the fighting games with Persona 3 and 4 characters. Ultimax takes place after the original, so play them in order to get the full story! Though if you’re getting one of the more modern remasters of Ultimax, you’re good and can already go through things properly in order.

  1. Persona 4 Arena (PS3, Xbox 360) -
  2. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, PC) -

Persona Dancing 3u3y65

All of the Persona Dancing entries are rhythm games. A good rule of thumb is to play the ones for entries whose soundtracks you enjoyed most.

  1. Persona 4: Dancing All Night (PS4, Vita) - As this is the entry with a story mode, you’ll want to play it first.
  2. Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight (PS4, Vita) or Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight (PS4, Vita) - As these entries aren’t as story heavy and “take place” at the same time, you can go with whichever entry’s music you prefer first.

Persona Q 3w1a6s

These are essentially Persona takes on the Etrian Odyssey dungeon-mapping formula. Each installment is self-contained. So play the original if you only like the Persona 3 and 4 characters, and go into Persona Q2 if you like the Persona 3, 4 and 5 folks. The sequel does build on mechanics, so you may want to go with that second if you play both.

  • Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (3DS)
  • Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth (3DS)

Persona 5 Strikers 1e72r

This is a weird one too! It takes place after Persona 5. Not Persona 5 Royal, to be specific. It’s a Musou-style beat’em up, so play and beat Persona 5 before getting into this PS4, Switch, and PC game for the best experience.

New Persona Games Trailer Appears Along Sale on 3, 4, and 5 Royal

The most recent Persona game ports of 3 Portable, 4 Golden, and 5 Royal are going on sale on multiple platforms this week. As such, Atlus shared a trailer and details about each deal. Essentially, the Switch versions are the only ones that won’t be reduced during March 2023. However, due to the PlayStation Essential Picks Sale, Steam Spring Sale, and Xbox Publisher Spotlight Series, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC versions are reduced where applicable.

The discounts are largely the same on every front. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are on sale for $15.99 each and Persona 5 Royal is $41.99 until March 29, 2023. On the Microsoft Store, the 3 and 4 bundle is $29.61, and 5 Royal is $41.99 until March 27, 2023. During the Steam sale, 3 and 4 will be $15.99 each and 5 Royal will be $38.99 until March 23, 2023.

Here’s the new trailer to accompany the Persona games sale. As usual, it’s one of the “accolades” trailers during which Atlus shares positive remarks about Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal.

As usual, it’s one of the “accolades” trailers during which Atlus shares positive remarks about Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNTl9FhykBw For reference, the Switch versions of the Persona 3 Portable can be found on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and PlayStation Portable. Persona 4 Golden released on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Vita. Persona 5 Royal is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Social Links are a vital part of any Persona experience, and it’s no different in Persona 4 Golden. Hanging out with your friends and improving their Social Links not only provide great benefits in battle or Persona-fusing, but they are also a great distraction from the murder mystery in town. In fact, some of the Social Links are so good they almost deserve to have their own game! These are the Social Links in Persona 4 Golden that I personally thought were the most well-written.

Editor’s Note: This contains spoilers for some of the Social Links in Persona 4 Golden. k1e70

persona 4 golden social link yosuke

Yosuke

In the story proper, you see a lot of Yosuke’s good and bad qualities. He’s impulsive and a jerk, but he’s also smart and surprisingly good at being a secondary leader to Yu. Yosuke is definitely some kind of shift leader at Junes, even if we disregard the fact that he’s a bit of a nepo baby. However, his Social Link takes it a bit further. We get to see his struggles as the son of a major company that’s been pushing out the smaller businesses in Inaba. We get to see him coming to grip with his grief and self-loathing over Saki. Yosuke’s Social Link does a great job at letting us see what’s behind his mask, while still remaining true to the character he is in the main plot.

Now let us date him!

persona 4 golden social link yukiko

Yukiko

Unlike Yosuke, we do not see a lot of new depths to Yukiko in her Social Link. However, her Social Link is one that I feel a lot of people – especially youths – can relate to. Even though she starts it wanting to leave Inaba and the Amagi Inn behind, she comes to realize just how much she loves it and legitimately wants to succeed it. It’s not just something she feels like she has to do anymore. As a child, I thought that Yukiko’s Social Link was bad because she ends it the same way she starts it, but when I replayed Persona 4 Golden, I see that I was wrong. A character’s mental journey is just as important as a physical one.

persona 4 golden kanji social link

Kanji

I have to it that a large part of me just likes Kanji so of course I’d like his Social Link. In the main plot, there are not a lot of scenes with just Kanji or Yu. A lot of the times, Kanji is comic relief through his stupidity, Yosuke’s jabs, or Rise’s teasing. So it’s actually refreshing to play his Social Link and see Kanji be a good but awkward boy who is trying so hard to change, and yet he’s not used to people accepting him for who he is. Kanji deserves so much. Best character, hands down.

kou social link persona 4 golden

Kou and Daisuke

The Fellow Athletes boys are so funny just because it literally does not matter which club you . Even if you basketball, you still hang out with Daisuke. Even if you soccer, you still hang out with Kou. And these guys are in their own little sports anime, but in a positive way. Whether it was Kou’s family drama or Daisuke’s relationship drama, I was always so curious as to what would happen next.

naoki

Naoki

Like with Yosuke, a large part of Naoki’s Social Link deals with his grief over Saki, as well as the way that others viewed him as a result of her death. It was such a well-written look at what follows in the wake of a personal tragedy, in both Naoki’s way of thinking and in the neighbors’ reactions to him. Like, I was legitimately surprised at how good the writing for Naoki’s Social Link is, especially when I compared it to some of the Social Links in other Persona games. His Social Link is one that I definitely recommend players maxing out if it’s their first time playing Persona 4.

nanako

Nanako

Nanako just makes me so sad, and her Social Link is not any better. So many Social Links in 4 deal with grief and how to overcome it, and Nanako’s version of this theme is in a way that’s likely meant to tug at your heartstrings. It’s not exactly a happy ending, just because her Social Link does not entirely solve Dojima’s workaholic tendencies. But seeing the two of them finally learn how to communicate with and each other in their shared grief was super nice. When I played Nanako’s Social Link as a kid, I straight up cried, and I got pretty damn close again in Golden.

dojima social link

Ryotaro

As a kid playing Persona 4, I found Dojima’s Social Link very difficult to relate to and understand. He’s also so socially awkward, which I couldn’t understand. But now, I do. And now, he makes me emo. Though both his and Nanako’s Social Links deal with the same issue of Chisato’s death, Nanako’s felt a lot more satisfying to me with how it concludes. But the reason that Dojima’s Social Link is here is because I like how we never actually find out who killed Chisato. It would be so easy for him to arrest the culprit and find closure through that, but he makes his peace with it because of Nanako’s presence. It’s a really sweet Social Link, even if it’s the weakest of the ones I’ve listed here.

eri

Eri

Like Dojima’s above, Eri’s Social Link was one that I straight up could not relate to or understand as a child. It’s certainly not a story that an average teenager would find gripping. Eri’s Social Link revolves around her loneliness away from her circle, as well as her miscommunications with her stepson. The way that you could only watch her and Yuuta realize how much they care about each other had me visiting the daycare whenever I could.

There are so many other good Social Links in Persona 4 Golden. Rise’s is a really interesting one, though I found it hard to tell if I genuinely enjoyed it or if I just want her Silver Bangle. Ai’s was also fun once you got past her abrasive attitude and the forced truancy. However, I couldn’t tell if I actually liked Ai or if I couldn’t separate the anime version from the game. There’s something for everyone in the Persona 4 Golden Social Links if you open your heart (and schedule) for the citizens of Inaba.

Persona 4 Golden is readily available on the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Game , Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.

Persona Sega offices

Sega shared through their official twitter a series of pictures of the new offices of Sega of America, which highlight several of their biggest franchises, such as the Persona series. The decoration of the offices includes a timeline of Sega's history with illustrations, which marks Sega’s acquisition of Atlus in 2014 with art of Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei IV.

https://twitter.com/SEGA_OFFICIAL/status/1619898232079024131

It is a well known fact that the Persona series is one of Sega’s strongest intellectual properties, and the company knows it well. They know how to show their appreciation for the franchise as well. In their new North American installations, the timeline of Sega’s history includes Atlus’ 35th Anniversary, the 25th Anniversary of the Persona series, and the release of Persona 5 Royal in all platforms in 2022. In the timeline, all these entries share an almost even protagonism with Sonic the Hedgehog himself, the prodigal son of Sega.

Sega doesn't stop there. The office area includes a seating booth themed after the Phantom Thieves of Persona 5, while the refreshment corner includes an entire wall dedicated to artwork of the four protagonists of Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal. This comes as no surprise, as the latest three numbered entries in the Persona series have recently reached all modern platforms.

If you also want to decorate your house with Persona-themed items, Atlus recently partnered with Useless Use Lab to release a line of home decor.

Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal are immediately available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC.
