We end up seeing games that didn’t normally appear on the Switch show up on the system all the time. Sometimes, these ports aren’t exactly what we expected. Or you might look at it and think it wouldn’t work. While I was pretty sure One Piece Odyssey would be fine once Bandai Namco released the Switch version, I was surprised at how well it works. Some visual and framerate compromises aside, it’s a pretty great way to play the game.

First, I was astonished by the One Piece Odyssey Switch loading times. Though, in this case, it was the lack of loading times. This is a substantial game with a lot of detail even in this port. Yet somehow, the loading is swifter than some pixelated or less demanding games I’ve played on the system. I’m not sure if some sort of wizardry is at play, but I expected at least 20 second loading times, and not often under 10 seconds. You do have to load between battles, but after the load times in a certain other Switch version of an RPG I played, it didn’t bother me.

As you might expect, the CG scenes all look great. Those movies that help propel this original One Piece story forward don’t lose anything in the transition to the Switch, even in handheld mode. I really appreciated how clear they were and how little is lost when the resolution dropped. Actual character models for allies and enemies in the field, as well as environmental elements, do take a hit when compared to when I played it on the PS5. It’s only natural. However, the portability made it worth it for me, since I was nearly exclusively testing out One Piece Odyssey in handheld mode. 

The only time One Piece Odyssey did seem to stutter in its performance on the Switch was when framerate got involved. I didn’t actually start seeing this immediately, because it seems the FPS issues only are an issue when you aren’t reliving the Straw Hat’s past experiences. I think it only happens happens in you’re in certain open areas, perhaps because of how much is being taken into and displayed. But I didn’t experience too much of an issue in most battles or areas. It’s only occasionally that it seems to drastically dip.

I feel like the affordability issue is what really cinches it and makes the One Piece Odyssey Deluxe Edition Switch version seem so good. It’s $59.99 on the system. That gets you access to the additional Reunion of Memories storyline and three outfit sets. To compare, on Steam or the PlayStation Store the standard edition is that price. The Deluxe Edition is $84.99 on both of those platforms and, while you still get Reunion of Memories, also only includes an accessory set, 100,000 Berries, and a Sniper King outfit for Usopp. It is just a a much better deal. The additional scenario pack alone on Steam or other storefronts is $24.99.

In general, One Piece Odyssey fits shockingly well on the Switch. I didn’t expect the performance to be so smooth. Like yes, it absolutely ran and looked better on the PS5. But considering what it’s doing and how much is there, I didn’t feel like there were too many compromises. Besides, the result is getting another enjoyable JRPG on the system.

Bandai Namco announced that the One Piece RPG One Piece Odyssey is headed to the Nintendo Switch. It will appear on the console as a Deluxe Edition with all DLC and more costumes included on July 26, 2024.

First, here’s the announcement trailer. It gives us an idea of how One Piece Odyssey will look when it appears on the Switch. It sets the stage for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates arriving on Waford island, where they meet Adio and the pirate-hating Lim. After Lim takes their abilities, the crew needs to go through memories of their past adventures, reliving them to restore their strength. 

Some of the additional content bundled into the Switch edition already appeared. The “Reunion of Memories” add-on story will be there. People will also get the Traveling Outfit Set inspired by characters’ past costumes and the Sniper King’s Traveling Outfit will be in there. The new costumes will be a set of costumes for the Straw Hats called the City of Water Outfit Set.

One Piece Odyssey first appeared in 2023. People were able to pick it up on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. It ended up being a relatively easy RPG that offered a means of re-experiencing past arcs set in places like Arabasta, Dressrosa, and Marineford.

Bandai Namco announced the One Piece Odyssey Reunion of Memories DLC release date. It will be out before the end of the month. On Steam, PC players will be able to start playing on May 24, 2023. However, the overall and general release date for this story-based add-on is May 25, 2023. There’s also a new trailer showing people what to expect from this additional adventure, though it doesn’t show any specific fights like boss battles.

Here’s the latest One Piece Odyssey Reunion of Memories DLC trailer that accompanied the release date announcement. There are spoilers shown throughout it, in case people haven’t finished playing through the game. It begins by establishing that Luffy and the Straw Hats are once again subject to Memoria memory worlds due to a young woman who looks like Lim in a black outfit. We also see an even larger cube than some of the ones seen before in the game.

This also marks one of the longer looks at this new experience. Back when it was first announced in April 2023, we got to see an initial teaser and some screenshots of the characters.

On March 29, 2023, Bandai Namco released a special video celebrating the history of One Piece video games and it teased the possibility of more games or One Piece Odyssey DLC. The video follows the releases of several iconic One Piece titles between the WonderSwan and current gen, alongside a girl experiencing all of the them as she grows into an adult. The Japanese catchphrase of the video reads "Have another game-like day, today.” [Thanks, Game Watch!]

In the video, a young girl is seen playing a variety of video games based on the series as she walks across the famous Shibuya crossing. The caption “to be continued” can be seen near the end of the video, perhaps teasing the arrival of announced DLC for One Piece Odyssey or more games.

If there was ever a game made for the fans, One Piece Odyssey is it. Mangaka Eiichiro Oda ended up involved, with new character designs based on his original art. The characters look true to life, with voice actors returning and familiar attacks back. It also revisits past arcs, tapping into stories that mattered to people. It nails the ambiance and the team behind it understood the assignment. However, people unfamiliar with the series probably won’t get much out of it, especially considering how easy it can be.

When someone starts One Piece Odyssey, they better know who the Straw Hat Pirates are and what they do, because the game isn’t going to wait for you to catch up. Luffy and the Straw Hats find themselves caught up in a storm, which strands them on Waford Island and sinks the Thousand Sunny. People are (temporarily) separated. Brook’s lost his body again. Franky needs to stay back to try and repair the ship. From there, things get worse, as they encounter a mysterious man named Adio and a young woman he considers his daughter named Lim. Lim, based on her hatred of pirates who ended up stranded there before, removes everyone’s memories. Not to mention the Marines are nearby with Smoker the White Hunter on deck.

The ejection of everyone’s memories in the form of cubes offers both an excuse to revisit memories and drop the crew from well-established level 40 back down to level 1 pirates with no special skills. As you find them in the field or from story-based events, you regain the party’s special attacks and can fortify them to make them stronger. Larger cubes necessitate a visit to Memoria, which allows the Straw Hats and Lim to revisit the Alabasta, Water Seven, Marineford, and Dressrosa arcs following the defeat of certain Waford island guardians.

However, these might not go exactly as someone would expect. This is because, as Lim noted, memories are unreliable. This means enemies are stronger than they were in the past, you might see unexpected cameos from characters that didn’t show up then, or the story might go differently. In some cases, this can also feel like an excuse to add more busywork or sidequests to pad out a storyline. As a spoiler-free example, the Straw Hats can’t take the Going Merry to Crocodile’s Rain Dinners casino, so you have to go through the desert next to Nanohana to reach Rainbase instead. This means the overall pacing can suffer, since there are unnecessary elements that interfere with what were originally reasonable plotlines.

Suggestion of things not going exactly as you’d expect aside, One Piece Odyssey shocked me with how straightforward it was. While people involved with the Tales series worked on it, I felt it was more like Tales of Graces than something like Tales of Berseria or Arise. (Though yes, Arise’s camping feature appears for parties and crafting.) This world isn’t an open one, and the path you need to take to get from point A to point B is usually incredibly direct and littered with red exclamation points showing you exactly where to go. (The game will also force you to stop and turn back many times, keeping you from exploring.) Given the size of spaces, you likely won’t go more than a few in-game feet before encountering another “event” that pauses everything to force you into a story segment or battle.

That simplicity carries over into other elements of One Piece Odyssey. It holds the player's hand more tightly than any game I've played in the last few years. How do I perform an action? Press square to toggle whether or not the ever-present "directory" on the screen. Where do I go next? Follow the big red arrow on the map to the exclamation point. Can I interact with something? Well, either there is a magnifying glass or a magnifying glass with an on-screen sparkle. The tutorials continue well into the second chapter, to the point at which it might feel like over-explaining. Accessories start out as huge blocks that take up every space in the equipment grid, locking someone into only one possible item they can use for buffs at time, but also making it very simple to determine what you should equip.

This is coupled with the game generally being rather easy, especially when it comes to puzzles, until you hit the late game. The fights on Waford especially are laughably so, with even bosses posing no threat. Characters gain levels at a shocking pace, with my party being at level 18 before I even headed into the Memoria version of Alabasta. Rather than being challenging, some main and side quests can involve running back and forth between obvious places in a rather small map with few detours or additional paths to go beat someone up or retrieve certain items. And while the Memoria segments mean the enemies can be more difficult, it can sometimes feel instead like they just have extra HP or deal slightly more damage than usual.

The One Piece Odyssey battle system attempts to make things interesting by having people in certain areas when fights begin and character traits. Characters belong to certain attack types like power/speed/technique, as do enemies. So Luffy is “power,” Nami is “speed,” and Zoro is “technique,” as an example. There are also different zones, with enemies and allies placed in different ones when a fight begins. It is novel, but it gets to feel like frustrating busywork when it comes to constantly swapping party around to take advantage of weaknesses. Likewise, movement putting certain characters in or out of range of enemies or group healing is annoying. Especially since there is no specific “move” command. It’s almost easier to rely on the auto battle feature, unless you’re against a boss or later in the game.

However, when I said this was one for the fans, I meant it. The character designs look good when brought to life. So much so that I would have liked to have seen more original enemies. Before you even leave the first chapter, you’ll start seeing palette swaps. There are entertaining asides between characters when you investigate points of interest or explore. Side quests can bring back minor characters from the anime and manga asking for help. Some folks may temporarily your party, though you won’t be able to control them in battle. You also get lots of time with allies. You can switch your lead character to perform special actions or reach different areas, though Luffy and Chopper were the two I ended to swap to most often for traversal purposes. You can also unlock Bond Arts via using Memory Links to get to Hysteria. These give people a chance to unlock memories with specific characters, getting a super strong group attack in return.

If you always wanted to the Straw Hat Pirates, then One Piece Odyssey is the adventure for you regardless of your proficiency with video games. However, it wouldn’t necessarily be the best game for everyone else. Those who love Tales titles or are experienced with turn-based RPGs would do better with a different, more challenging title that doesn’t expect you to be familiar with the source material. It is a very easy adventure that expects a certain degree of knowledge about One Piece, even with Lim using the memory cubes to offer brief asides during chapters. But if you are a fan and are up for an effortless, nostalgic, and pretty stroll, this will leave you satisfied.

Tsuzuki first clarified its length. Depending on what you do and your pace, it will likely be a 1-2 hour experience. However, people won’t get to see the Alabasta or Water Seven memory worlds. The goal is to offer a tutorial experience and sample of the pace. He also confirmed you can take saves from the demo and use them in the full game again. Golden Jelly will be the bonus for playing the demo.

It also includes a synopsis of One Piece Odyssey’s plot, a look at the history of the game’s development, and a rundown on the game’s overall flow.

The trailer looks specifically at how battles and adventuring in One Piece Odyssey will work. It also shows the graphics and environments that will help players to lose themselves in the world of One Piece. To make the game feel like an extension of the show, the developers focused on camerawork and character expressions in combat.

There is a turn-based combat system in order to best showcase the talents of the Straw Hat Pirates. As well, a rock-paper-scissor mechanic with Power, Speed, and Technique is present. This will help you to lay down the groundwork for strategies. The Scramble Area Battle system randomly places characters in the arena, and you have to incorporate everyone’s positions into your tactics. There are also “dramatic scenes” that act as mini-missions, which will grant a boost to post-battle rewards.

For the adventuring portion, you can switch freely between different characters to explore. As Usopp, you can use his slingshot to hit distant objects. Meanwhile, Chopper is small enough to fit in small spaces. You can use Zoro to cut open chests, Sanji can look for cooking ingredients, and Nami can find money on the ground. You can also use these field actions to solve dungeon puzzles.

Finally, you can fully customize characters with accessories. As well, there are multiple options to make items or foods with Usopp, Sanji, or Robin. How many accessories a character can equip will increase as you play through the story.

One Piece Odyssey will come out on the PS45, PS5, and Xbox Series X on January 12, 2023. The Windows PC version will come out on January 13, 2023.

People will get to try the new One Piece game before buying it. As Jump Festa 2023 ended, Bandai Namco shared a new trailer and announcement. Three days ahead of the One Piece Odyssey release date, a free demo will appear. People on the PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X will be able to get the trial to test out the RPG.

It seems like the One Piece Odyssey demo will offer a slice of the game from the beginning. People can save as they go through the early part of the adventure. Then, if they do buy the full title, they can pick up where they left off.

As for the new One Piece Odyssey trailer, it is called “Memories.” It hints that the Straw Hats will be revisiting their past adventures. They’ll revisit memories alongside new character Lim after getting to Waford. Snippets from Alabasta, Water Seven, Marineford, and Dressrosa all show up in the new video. Announced in 2022, One Piece Odyssey is a new spin on the beloved manga anime, opting for JRPG and pseudo-open world elements. I had the opportunity to try the game at a preview event, which gave me more than a few hours to sink my teeth into the game. While nothing about it felt revolutionary during that handful of hours, what I played made me interested in the full release. It could potentially lay the foundation for other One Piece RPGs moving forward.

The game features an entirely new story set in the One Piece universe by series creator Eiichiro Oda. Luffy and crew get transported to a mysterious new island through an interdimensional portal, which promptly sees them stranded in this strange new place. I quickly acquired the crew I would be using throughout the preview, which was a fairly large amount of characters. This consisted of Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Usopp, Chopper, Nico Robin, and Sanji, though Franky also ed my party for a brief period of time. The preview was full of exposition, setting the stage for narrative events that would unfold within just an hour of gameplay.

This included an introduction to characters unique to One Piece Odyssey, like Lim, that wouldn’t be out of place in the manga. However, outside of this introduction, the preview didn’t allow me to get to know them in any greater capacity. Their story importance was paramount, as one such character serves as a deus ex machina of sorts that relieves Luffy and crew of their powers, so to speak. After the crew loses most of their abilities, I was introduced to the various systems that revolve around mysterious cubes that I would need to collect in order to regain my power. This included allocation of cubes to power up skills. (These could be refunded at any time, so it let me experiment and play around with certain builds.) It also afforded a peek at a Tetris-like accessory system. Everything is distributed and based around cubes, which includes equipment that you can arrange in a set square area to equip as many as possible.

Combat is turn-based, but character types are important when tackling enemies. One Piece Odyssey functions on a color-based system that designates what “type” each character is. For example, Zoro is a “Green” character, which gives him an advantage over “Red” types. Nami and Usopp are “Orange” type characters, making them formidable against “Greens.” It’s a rock-paper-scissors kind of ordeal, or something you’d see in something like Fate/Grand Order. But where it differentiates itself is the ability to swap between party on the fly to reposition your characters or move them up in turns to take advantage of their inherent type advantages.

For example, when attacking a “Red” type enemy that would initially be delegated to Luffy (who is also a “Red” type). You can go into your menu and swap him out for Zoro or Nico Robin to deal more damage or to kill the enemy outright, since your characters are fairly strong. Making use of these type advantages made most battles trivial during the preview. That said, this level of strategic play did come in handy during longer encounters, during which I was swapping characters out and repositioning them to make the most out of their location on the battlefield to avoid damage or soak it up depending on their type.

For my preview I played on the PlayStation 5. The game looked great, with cel shading making it feel all the more immersive with regard to the environments and monsters. One Piece characters still have their grossly over-exaggerated expressions in cutscenes, which helped carry over the tone of the manga into this game. Even when characters were executing flashier attacks or if I was in areas with a large amount of NPCs, the game didn’t seem to buckle under the weight of it all. I was able to explore the shores of the beach the crew washed up on and the desert city of Alabasta. Both looked great.

From what I experienced of One Piece Odyssey, it could prove to be an interesting RPG and an enticing new adventure for long-time fans of the series. Despite its fairly simple combat system, due to its use of positioning and character types, it could potentially allow for some interesting strategic play. That said, One Piece Odyssey feels like it could be the start of a slew of other RPGs of a similar vein for the series.

During the original One Piece Water 7 storyline, the crew headed to Water 7 after an encounter with a Sea Train. The crew went through a number of devastating challenges during this arc, such as the the Going Merry seeming to be damaged beyond repair, the Franky Family stealing money from the crew, and 9’s debut.

Bandai Namco confirmed that the Water 7 Arc of One Piece will appear as a memory the Straw Hat Pirates will re-live in One Piece Odyssey. As of the time of writing, there is no trailer or specific information on how the arc will play out. In One Piece Odyssey, the Straw Hat Pirates will have to go through past events. However, because they are stronger and already know what will happen, the game’s version will be new for existing fans of the show and manga. For example, even though Robin was not part of the crew during the actual Alabasta arc, she is their ally in the game’s version of it.

Water 7 was the fifteenth story arc of the series. This is when Franky ed the crew as the shipwright. Due to reasons revolving around Robin, Water 7 flows directly into the Enies Lobby arc. It is unclear at this point whether or not the game will cover events from Enies Lobby, or if it will be specifically focused around Water 7.

One Piece Odyssey is in development and will come out on January 13, 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. If you purchase the limited edition, you can get a figure of Luffy and Lim.

Though the game is situated long after the actual events of the Alabasta. storyline, a new feature allows the Straw Hats to relive their most memorable adventures. Each of the Straw Hat Pirates Crew has a unique Field Action that allows them to traverse the environment effectively. For example, Luffy can stretch his limbs to reach far-off locations, and Chopper can fit into small spaces. The game's battle system is turn-based, and players will be able to switch out party to best suit the type of enemy faced. There are also variations that mix up the order of battle, such as the Scramble Area, a condition that separates the characters into different areas and forces them to fight on their own. Characters with long range attacks, like Nami and Usopp, can lend a hand to their mates. Dramatic Scenes impose special conditions on the battle, such as having to help a party member in crisis. Fulfilling the conditions unlocks bonus rewards and special dialog exchanges.

One Piece Odyssey launches on January 13, 2023 on PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and on PC on January 13th. A limited edition will also include a figure.

Bandai Namco has ed a new trailer featuring the Alabasta arc as it will appear in One Piece Odyssey. With the World of Memories, One Piece Odyssey will allow players to re-experience key moments and scenes from the show. However, it will still have an original story.

The trailer mostly focuses on how the story will play out in the memory version of Alabasta. Not only are the characters older and stronger than they originally were in Alabasta, but Robin is also indubitably on the allies’ side. Vivi, Smoker, and Bon Kurei also make brief cameos in the trailer, and will likely play a major part in the Alabasta chapter. While the situation in Alabasta is the same as it was during the titular arc in the show, the story in One Piece Odyssey will play out differently.

One Piece Odyssey is an RPG project that Bandai Namco developed for the 25th anniversary of the series. Eiichiro Oda has helped to design the new characters and monsters, as well as the writing of the main plot. It will have turn-based combat, and each Straw Hat Pirate will be able to use their unique ability to help explore the map.

One Piece Odyssey will come out on the PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X on January 12, 2023. The Windows PC version will come out on January 13.
