Square Enix will be making it easier to pick up both Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 physical game copies on the Switch, as a new cartridge option includes both of the JRPGs. The three stores with retail listings online are PNP Games, Play-Asia, and Video Games Plus, though PNP and VGP are both sold out as of 12:30pm ET on March 31, 2025. 

Right now, the prices seem to vary. PNP was selling the bundle for $55.99. The VGP price was $79.99 CAD, which came out to $55.90. There’s no price on the Play-Asia listing yet, though sometimes it can end up being a bit more for certain titles. Both PNP and VGP note they should ship all orders on April 4, 2025, but note that is the expected date. For those who missed pre-orders, it might be worth returning on or around that date to see if additional stock appeared. 

The notable point about this release is that the early reports seem to suggest there are no additional s. So if someone picks up the Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 physical Switch bundle, each of the JRPGs will be on a single cartridge together. Prior to this, both games were available separately both digitally and physically for the system.

It is also possible to buy both games in a bundle from the eShop. The listing is live on the storefront and has been for some time. That costs $74.99.

The original Octopath Traveler is now available on the PlayStation 4 and 5, and its sequel Octopath Traveler 2 is out now for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Game . Furthermore, both titles are available separate or as part of a bundle in various platforms.

The individual release of Octopath Traveler is available now on PS4 and PS5 for $59.99, or $39.59 for PlayStation Plus owners, as a limited time offer that ends on June 20, 2024. Similarly, Octopath Traveler 2 is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, also costing $59.99, and free for Xbox Game s. Meanwhile, the bundle with both games costs $74.99 and can be found for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam.

In addition to both games stealth dropping on all current and last gen consoles, a new update for Octopath Traveler 2 is out now on all platforms. The update adds a new Extra Battles mode to the title screen, available only after clearing the main story of the game.

The first Octopath Traveler title originally appeared in July 13, 2018 as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and would later be ported to PC on June 2019 and Xbox One on March 2021. Meanwhile, Octopath Traveler 2 originally released for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC on February 24, 2023.

Back at the beginning of March 2024, it was discovered that the original Octopath Traveler game was suddenly unavailable to purchase from the Switch eShop. Now over a month later, Square Enix confirmed people can buy it from the storefront again. 

Here's the official announcement that it is back. Square Enix didn't explain the temporary issue:

The game is still showing as $59.99, as usual. All of the descriptions and screenshots are all the same as well. It does now show Square Enix as the publisher, rather than Nintendo, just as the page abruptly did once it showed it was unavailable in March 2024. 

As a reminder, this issue only affected the eShop version of Octopath Traveler that was initially published by Nintendo. During this period, people were still able to get the Windows PC version via Steam and Xbox One version via the Microsoft Store.

Octopath Traveler is immediately available, and people can find it on the Switch, Xbox One, and PC. There are a total of three games in the series so far. Octopath Traveler 2 is out on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. There is also a mobile game spin-off called Octopath Traveler: Conquerors of the Continent.

There seems to be something going on with the original Octopath Traveler possibly being delisted in some way, as the Switch eShop listing is showing as “not available.” If someone already owns it, it still shows as “already ed.” [Thanks, Wario64!]

This issue is only showing up on the Switch eShop. The PC listing on Steam and Xbox One product page on the Microsoft Store are unaffected. However, the Switch version of the game was originally published by Nintendo, not Square Enix. As Gematsu’s social media pointed out on the Wario64 post, the publisher now changed. This means this is likely a case of Octopath Traveler being temporarily delisted as part of the shift.

When Octopath Traveler launched on the Switch, it appeared both digitally and physically. As such, it is still possible to find a cartridge with the game on it. Also, there are stores who sell codes for digital copies. If someone buys and redeems one of those, it will give them a digital copy even though the store doesn’t have it up for purchase.

Octopath Traveler is immediately available. People can find it on the Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Octopath Traveler 2 is out on the PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. There is also a mobile game spin-off called Octopath Traveler: Conquerors of the Continent.

In Japan, Square Enix is counting down to the release of Octopath Traveler 2 with character art of cast from the first and second game. Over the weekend, an additional four pieces appeared. In addition to showing some people alone, like Ochette or Castti, there are more pairings. In those Octopath Traveler 2 images, people who share jobs like Temenos and Ophilia or Hikari and Olberic appear together. All images were drawn by of the dev team.

First, the February 9, 2023 picture showed Octopath Traveler 2’s Ochette with some of her animal friends. This is a nod to how she can “capture” monsters in battles, then use them latter as allies or food.

There's a new RPG coming out this year, and it has a fair number of industry veterans working on the project. Project TriTri, as it's tentatively named, is an action RPG coming out sometime in Q2 2022. Notably, working on the project are artists, composers, and scenario writers from Xenoblade Chronicles, the Mana series, Octopath Traveler, and more. The project's official website provides interested fans with a brief rundown. The game, which will be an entirely new IP, will focus on "reviving the golden age of '90s RPGs for the modern age." Releasing for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5, it will follow a young man who learns that he is the chosen Warrior of Chaos. It will solo play, as well as up to three-person multiplayer.

The website also goes through some of the people at the helm of the project. Working on world design is Nobuteru Yuki, who worked as a character designer on Chrono Cross and illustrator on Trials of Mana. The game's character designer is Raita Kazama of Xenoblade Chronicles fame. Yura Kubota, the writer for Octopath Traveler, is writing the scenario. The game's composer is Hiroki Kikuta, who worked on the soundtrack for both Trials of Mana and Secret of Mana.

Additionally, according to the game's design documents, the RPG will reportedly feature summonable familiars. Deg these unnamed familiars will be famous Pokemon designers Atsuko Nishida, Tomohiro Kitakaze, and Megumi Mizutani. Developing the game is Three Rings Design, the studio that helped develop Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.

Further details surrounding Project TriTri and its official title will appear sometime on May 26, 2022. The game is expected to release sometime in Q2 2022 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.

With Triangle Strategy’s launch and the recent reveal of the Live A Live remaster, our eyes are on Square Enix’s “HD-2D” efforts. What do you want to see in the next HD-2D game? A remaster? An homage to a classic? The Siliconera writers made their picks.

Chrono Trigger is one of those classic games that I hear tons of great things about but I never actually experienced it myself. When I first saw my friend's older brother playing it? I (perhaps rather blasphemously) wrote it off as "ugly" compared to Final Fantasy X. Though it has been released on more modern platforms such as Windows PC and the Nintendo DS, I think it would be a fairly good game to experience in HD-2D.

My second choice is Brave Fencer Musashi for purely sentimental reasons, but that would require completely overhauling the game's aesthetics. Since the point of HD-2D is to keep that retro atmosphere, it probably ruins the idea. — Stephanie

Is it too soon after the release of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster line to ask for a Final Fantasy HD-2D Remaster? The standout work on That Scene from Final Fantasy VI drove home how much I'd like to see my favorite FF game in the new style. And I've never seen Square Enix shy away from a chance to sell me something I like again! So let's consider this a distant promise.

In that case, I'd like a new original title. Sure, Live A Live is coming out soon, and is basically new to most people. But I'd like to see Square Enix reach further and apply the look to something a little more removed from the aesthetic we've seen so far. Maybe a sci-fi game in the vein of DS cult classic Infinite Space? Or a modern-age urban fantasy? — Josh

We have never seen a Hanjuku Hero game outside of Japan. These are real-time strategy games that showed up on multiple platforms in Japan. The series got its start on the Famicom, but installments appeared on the Super Famicom, Nintendo DS, and PS2 too! We've already seen Square Enix decide to release a former Japan-exclusive title worldwide thanks to a HD-2D remake. If it did it again with a Hanjuku Hero game? That would be pretty great! — Jenni

Speaking of localizations: there's a well-regarded Enix RPG that never made it to America, and now would be a great time: Terranigma. There were a few hangups in the game's subject matter that likely put some doubts in Nintendo of America's mind in the 1990s. Now, though? That wouldn't be an issue. Its stellar reputation, which has grown over the years, would pair well with the HD-2D aesthetic and make for a title that would sell as well as it plays. — Graham

Square Enix announced pre-orders for an Octopath Traveler tabletop rulebook and scenario are now open. Octopath Traveler TRPG & Replay will allow for players to create their own characters within the world of Octopath Traveler. Additionally, it will come with a scenario. That said, there will be enough material within the Octopath Traveler tabletop rulebook to allow for players to create their own campaigns. It will cost 2,000 yen, or $17, and will release on February 28, 2022. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Additionally, those who pre-order the item from the Square Enix e-STORE will receive a special postcard. However, the company has yet to reveal artwork for the postcard. This is the only pre-order bonus exclusive to the Square Enix e-STORE. The official storefront also makes note that the release date for the item may be subject to change. There is also no indication that the book will release to consumers outside of Japan.

In February 2021, Square Enix announced sales for Octopath Traveler had sured 2.5 million sales. To commemorate the occasion, it released a special piece of artwork. Then, in March 2021, Octopath Traveler was released Xbox One. The game was also made available to play through Xbox Game .

It seems the eight heroes of Octopath Traveler are heading to the Xbox One. As part of Microsoft’s March 2021 Xbox Game announcements, it confirmed a port of the game. It noted that on March 25, 2021, both console and PC subscribers would have access to the Square Enix RPG. Square Enix hasn’t announced if people can buy the Xbox One version that day yet.

Currently, Octopath Traveler is available on three platforms. It debuted on the Nintendo Switch back in July 2018. Then, about a year later, Square Enix revealed the PC port in June 2019. In April 2020, a Stadia version of the RPG showed up. Now, there’s the Octopath Traveler Xbox One reveal.

Octopath Traveler ended up being quite successful for Square Enix. It hit the two million in sales hallmark in March 2020. Then, back in February 2021, it ended up reaching 2.5 million copies sold.

As a reminder, Octopath Traveler is something of a traditional RPG with SaGa influences. Players follow eight different heroes, with their own roles and abilities, through their stories. You can also switch up their classes.

Octopath Traveler will the Xbox One and PC Game libraries on March 25, 2021, though Square Enix hasn’t noted if that’s when people will also be able to buy the Xbox One version yet. The game is also available on the Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia.

Octopath Traveler hit another major milestone. The official Japanese Twitter celebrated the RPG’s newest record on February 25, 2021. The new Octopath Traveler sales total so far is over 2.5 million worldwide. That takes into both digital and physical copies of the Nintendo Switch and PC game.

The hallmark was celebrated with a new piece of artwork. Cyrus appears and is examining the new Octopath Traveler sales figure. In the background, Bravely Default II heroine Adelle is cheering on the accomplishment. Naoki “Ikusy” Ikushima, who is known for both Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler art, drew the celebratory piece.

Octopath Traveler initially debuted on the Nintendo Switch. It eventually ended up appearing on PCs and Google Stadia as well. In the UK, its sales outpaced Bravely Default and Bravely Second. It also hit the one million copies sold milestone in August 2018, about a month after launch. Octopath Traveler sales hit two million back in March 2020.

We haven't heard much about the smartphone game Octopath Traveler: Conquerors of the Continent but Square Enix will share more on its release on September 18, 2020. In the meantime, we got a look at a new OST video featuring the theme of Argust the Playwright, "Conqueror of Glory."

Square Enix released previous OST videos to commemorate the pre-registration milestones for Octopath Traveler: Conquerors of the Continent. This time, the mobile game has reached 500,000 pre-registrations to unlock the theme of Argust the Playwright, one of the titular Conquerors.

This track is the battle theme for the Conqueror of Glory, Argust, known as the Playwright, who rules with the power of "fame." Previously, we got to check out the battle themes for the other Conquerors, including the "Witch of Greed" Helminia, and Titus the "Hero." You can read more about the three big villains here.

The last time we heard about the game was almost a year ago in November 2019, when Square Enix announced its delay from 2019 to 2020. We're still waiting for a release date, but the wait won't be long, as Square Enix plans to share the game's latest trailer and announce its release date on September 18, 2020.

It is now officially the Octopath Traveler second anniversary. The game was released worldwide on the Nintendo Switch on July 13, 2018. As is common with notable Square Enix hallmarks, there’s some new art to celebrate. The official Japanese Twitter had the game’s 2D pixel artist, Shizuka Morimoto, create a new image to celebrate. The Octopath Traveler image focuses on two specific characters, rather than the whole cast of eight heroes. We have H’aanit, Eliza Woodward, Therion, and Cordelia Ravus riding on Linde’s back, with Heathcote is hanging on to her tail.

This is the second sort of Octopath Traveler anniversary celebration. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is hosting a Spirit Board event with four new spirits inspired by the game’s characters until July 15, 2020. Each spirit features a pair of the heroes and, if you miss the event, you'll have to wait until a future update for a chance to acquire them in-game.

This also isn’t the first time Morimoto has provided art for an anniversary celebration. Here’s the Bravely Default fifth anniversary design from the artist.

Normally, you only expect a company that made a game to celebrate hallmark occasions. But it seems Nintendo is breaking the mold. Octopath Traveler debuted back on July 13, 2018, and its second birthday is coming up. To pay tribute, an Octopath Traveler Super Smash Bros Ultimate Spirit Board event will be held in-game between July 10-15, 2020. Best of all, everyone will be there! [Thanks, Resetera!]

Information about the event was released via the official website, with the introductory image showing what the four different Octopath Traveler Spirits being added will look like. They will appear in pairs. Alfyn and Therion are together as one Spirit. H’aanit and Ophilia are another pair. The remaining two are Olberic and Primrose, then Tressa and Cyrus. Nintendo didn’t note if they are Primary or Spirits.

New Spirits tend to appear at a pretty decent pace in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Back in April 2020, Trials of Mana Spirits were added. Before that, we saw Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Ring Fit Adventure characters appear.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is available for the Nintendo Switch. Octopath Traveler is available for the Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia. The Octopath Traveler Super Smash Bros Ultimate event will be held between July 10-15, 2020.

As hinted at by the ESRB listing that appeared before the April 28, 2020 Stadia Connect, an Octopath Traveler Stadia port was the shadowdrop for the presentation. If someone heads to the storefront, they can pick up a copy for $59.99. This is in line with the standard PC pricing, as it is also $59.99 there, though the Nintendo Switch version can be found for $49.99.

The Octopath Traveler Stadia release wasn’t the only new game to appear at the same time as Google’s video. Two other titles also are immediately available. One is the $19.99 Get Packed, a one-to-four player game about moving out items during the hostile eviction of a whole town. The other is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the battle royale game. It’s available alone for $29.99 or in a bundle with a Stadia Premiere Set and Survivor : Cold Front for $39.99. However, if someone has an active Stadia Pro hip, they can claim PUBG for free.

A Stadia Connect will be happening at 9am PT/12pm ET/6pm CET to announce new games and coming attractions for Google’s service. However, the ESRB seems to have spoiled some of the fun. At the moment, Octopath Traveler is only available on two platforms. The JRPG with eight heroes and storylines started out as a Nintendo Switch exclusive, before Square Enix eventually ported it to the PC. So it a port to Google’s streaming service wouldn’t be too unlikely. An ESRB rating appearing before the announcement could also suggest it will launch swiftly on the service. Perhaps it could even be a shadowdrop during the presentation?

Especially since an Octopath Traveler Stadia port wouldn’t be the only Square Enix game on the service. Final Fantasy XV and the rebooted Tomb Raider titles are both already there. The company has also committed to putting Marvel’s Avengers on Stadia.

This isn’t the only ESRB Stadia rating appearing the same day as the April 2020 Stadia Connect. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds also received a “Teen” rating for a Stadia port.

Octopath Traveler is immediately available for the Nintendo Switch and PC. Over two million copies of the game have been sold.
