Nissin has published a new game-themed Cup Noodle commercial ad. The video features the Chili Tomato Cup Noodle, and it is inspired by Gama no Abura's commentary on the Daigo Umehara match in Guilty Gear XX.

The original source of this video is the commentary on the match between Daigo Umehara and Shishamo during the Tougeki - Super Battle Opera 2003 tournament. The over-the-top delivery by Gama no Abura, who is also known as a fan of Umehara, elevated it to a famous meme in the Japanese gaming community.

Nissin is not the only company that has embraced the meme. Kadokawa also employed Gama no Abura to provide a parody commentary when it published the second volume of the Umehara Fighting Gamers manga in 2015. However, Nissin took a further step by also having Arc System Works produce an original clip that shows the Daigo Umehara-controlled Sol Badguy preparing the Cup Noodle.

The new commercial ad is available to watch right below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkE6WRPwKHE

This ad is based on the original Guilty Gear XX, which first appeared in PlayStation 2 and arcades in 2002. The version readily available on the PC gaming platform Steam is Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, which was the last version released in arcades in 2012. While the game has been available on Steam since 2015, it received a GGPO rollback netcode update in late 2020.

Cup Noodle ad based on El Shaddai meme

Nissin has ed a new collaborative Cup Noodle commercial video which features the Japanese meme based on El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. In this new trailer, Lucifel questions Enoch's choice of his Cup Noodle-branded gear.

The meme originated when a promotional trailer for the El Shaddai game appeared at E3 2010. Enoch's insistence on his original armor and his concession after the reset became a timeless classic in the Japanese gaming community.

Nissin launched this commercial to promote four special-flavored Tokujo Cup Noodle packages. Each of them is themed after the Matsutake mushroom, Seafood, Curry, and Chili Tomato.

The company not only worked with Crim to apply Cup Noodle branding to Enoch's armors in the El Shaddai trailer. It even employed Lucifel's Japanese voice actor Ryota Takeuchi to record new quotes for the commercial, including parody lines that replaced the word "equipment" with "Cup Noodle."

The new collaborative commercial video is available to watch via YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p9nPMcYLLk

Nissin has been holding collaborations between Cup Noodles and many Japanese game franchises. The most well-known one was the Final Fantasy XV crossover in 2016. In recent years, Nissin has also collaborated with the mobile game Project Sekai Colorful Stage! feat. Hatsune Miku in 2022 and the Pokemon franchise in 2023.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron was originally released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. Crim has released remastered ports for the game on PC via Steam in 2021 and Nintendo Switch in 2024.

Nissin announced that the Cup Noodle line will be releasing All-You-Can-Eat Mystery Meat variety starting on March 25, 2024 in Japan.

In the official press release by Nissin, the company stated that alongside the release of this new product, there will be original recipes released including Mystery Meat Explosion Cup Noodle Fried Rice and Mystery Meat Burger that can be found on the official Mystery Meat website. Other recipes using the product include Mystery Meat Kimchi Rice Bowl, Mystery Meat Stuffed Peppers, and Mystery Meat Bolognese. The Cup Noodle line launched in 1971 and has been Nissin's best selling product worldwide. Nissin also has lines outside of their Cup Noodle line which includes products focused on the company's curry and udon.

All-You-Can-Eat Mystery Meat will release on March 25, 2024 across Japan.

Sephiroth Transforms In Nissin Donbei x FFVII Rebirth Ad

In a unique collaboration between Square Enix and Nissin Foods leading into the release of FFVII Rebirth, Sephiroth has been transformed into the "One-Winged Dongitsune" in Nissin's Donbei Kitsune Udon ment.

In the ad promoting both FFVII Rebirth and Nissin's Donbei Kitsune Udon, the Sephiroth is shown to be standing in fire with a fox tail and ears, which is the iconic look of the "dongitsune", a fox spirit who is associated with Donbei bowls. He turns around in the flames and says "Cloud, I have a favor to ask you. Would you like to eat Donbei?" Cloud responds with his iconic line, "not interested." As the ad continues, Sephiroth continues to implore Cloud to eat the Donbei Kitsune Udon as a piece of abura-age tofu sails down from the heavens as a massive meteor until Cloud gives in. He tells Cloud " that every time you see the Dongitsune, the Dongitsune will guide you. Dongitsune will always be by your side."

As Cloud eats the Donbei in the Nissin Donbei x FFVII Rebirth ment, he is healed by 7777 HP. Sephiroth, as the One-Winged Dongitsune, praises Cloud for eating the Donbei by calling him a "good boy.” The ad ends with Sephiroth saying "Shall I give you Donbei?"

While the ad reuses familiar moments from FFVII Remake and scenes shown in various promotional materials for FFVII Rebirth, it has been newly animated by Square Enix to show Sephiroth holding a bowl of Donbei and Cloud eating udon. The Nissin Donbei x FFVII Rebirth ment can be seen below:

nissin gamers noodles curry

Cup noodle giant Nissin will release Gaming Cup Noodles and Gaming Curry Meshi that will help gamers stay up all night and play. They contain caffeine, arginine, and niacin. You’ll be able to purchase them in Japan from September 18, 2023

Since Nissin is marketing these foods towards gamers, they’re very colorful and emulate the RGB aesthetic on a lot of gamer-focused electronics. This is the first time that Nissin has made products geared towards that particular market. However, this is a response to the large number (50 million in Japan alone) of young gamers, according to the official website.

The cup noodles are dry soba noodles that have black pepper and garlic flavoring. The sauce uses soy sauce as its base. As for the curry, it’s a keema curry. It’s also vegetarian, since the meat in it uses soy. The noodles should cost 280 JPY each and the curry should cost 298 JPY each. They come in boxes as well. Each box of noodles will get you 12 cups and each box of curry will get you 6. Here are some pictures of the products from the Nissin website:

[gallery columns="1" ids="982197" link="file"]

As gaming becomes more and more of a proper mainstream hobby (as well as even a legitimate career), more and more companies are also releasing items that cater to that particular crowd. Some companies do so through collaborations. For example, ZONe energy drink previously released a Genshin Impact pack.

The gamers noodles and curry from Nissin will come out in Japan from September 18, 2023.
