New NieR Merchandise Focuses on Emil bag

Square Enix announced new pieces of NieR Replicant and NieR: Automata merchandise featuring Emil’s face, with the Black Box from Automata and Mama from NieR Reincarnation also appearing. All of them are expected to launch in Japan on July 26, 2025, and AmiAmi is taking orders for them and shipping worldwide. Due to the Trump tariffs, these items didn't show up in the US store yet.

The Emil NieR Replicant drawstring bag costs 2,530円 (~$18). It’s over seven inches tall (195mm) and seven inches (180mm) wide. There is a brocade-style pattern on the back, with Emil’s face on the front.

Here’s how that looks:

Each of the three rubber trays are also 2,530円 (~$18) each. These are all based on identifiable icons from the games. So the NieR Replicant representative for this series of merchandise is Emil, the NieR: Automata one is the Black Box, and the NieR Reincarnation design features Mama. In the case of the Black Box, it also glows in the dark. Each one is about 5 inches (130mm) tall and 5 inches (125mm) wide.

Here are all three of those designs, and Square Enix also shared a picture of the Black Box when it is glowing in the dark with us.

Speaking of NieR Reincarnation, something could be happening with the now-dead mobile game. On the anniversary site’s page for a short web novel, text appeared suggesting a potential return.

The NieR Replicant Emil drawstring bag and rubber tray, NieR: Automata Black Box rubber tray, and NieR Reincarnation Mama rubber tray will debut in Japan on July 26, 2025. NieR Replicant is available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while NieR: Automata can be found on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The NieR: Automata anime is streaming on Crunchyroll

NieR Undecided Option - 15th Anniversary Special Novel

Square Enix has published chapters 5 and 6 of the NieR: Undecided Option special novel. These two chapters are also the last ones to conclude the web novel series that the company made to mark the NieR series' 15th anniversary.

The company has gradually published chapters for the NieR: Undecided Option web novel in the last two weeks. The first batch appeared on April 19, 2025, with the second chapter themed after NieR:Automata. The second wave published on April 25, 2025, included a chapter dedicated to the now-defunct mobile game, NieR Re[in]carnation. The final chapter that's just published has a focus on the siblings Nier and Yonah from NieR Replicant.

As a reminder, NieR Replicant initially appeared exclusively in Japan for PlayStation 3 on April 22, 2010. Square Enix only localized the Japanese Xbox 360 version of NieR Gestalt, which featured an older protagonist, as NieR for both PS3 and Xbox 360 in the West throughout late April 2010. The company later released an upgraded version of NieR Replicant with the extra subtitle ver.1.22474487139 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC worldwide in April 2021.

The NieR: [U]ndecided Option special novel, made for the series' 15th anniversary in 2025, is readily available to read in the Japanese language.

Yoko Taro Talked About NieR: Automata Inspiration and Endings

As part of the NieR series’ 15th anniversary, Square Enix released an interview with Creative Director Yoko Taro and Producer Yosuke Saito about the games, and that involved details about both the NieR and NieR: Automata inspiration and endings. In addition to citing Evangelionas an influence for the second game, the two talked about certain choices and endings for both the first and second titles.

First, the Evangelion element came up when Square Enix specifically brought up NieR: Automata inspirations. Yoko Taro mentioned that anime. He then also said, “But then, everything I make is influenced by Evangelion.”

As for the NieR and NieR: Automata endings, those came up twice. First, Saito brought it up. He mentioned how he wasn’t “supposed” to know about NieR and its Ending D deleting save data. However, he brought up how he did find out ahead of time.

Here’s Yosuke Saito’s statement about that:

“Mr. Yoko kept the fact that the game deletes your save file a secret from me, but some other of the team revealed this to me in secret. My favorite memory is probably choosing to let this slide. "It's fine!" I said. "It's probably just an homage to Dragon Quest!”

Although apparently it wasn't an homage to Dragon Quest (laughs).”

Finally, Yoko Taro discussed the multiple endings in NieR: Automata. He cited how his past games and Square Enix’s requests affect design decisions. He noted, “That's an idea that we brought over from Drakengard. And the reason we did it is that Square Enix told us to ‘add more content!’”

As a reminder, we may hear about NieR Reincarnation again soon. The anniversary site included a teaser referencing the now-closed mobile game. An update will appear there on May 2, 2025.

NieR is available on the PS3 and Xbox 360, NieR Replicant is available on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and NieR: Automata is on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

nier automata connections

Square Enix published an article explaining the connections between NieR Replicant and NieR Automata, which canonically take place a thousand years apart from each other. Yoko Taro, the creator of the series, retweeted the post on X (formerly Twitter) to assure readers that they can maybe play the games as stand-alone ones.

Those who’ve played both games should already know the majority of what’s listed in the article on Square Enix’s website. Of course, they do contain spoilers for those who haven’t (as does this article). Some of the connections listed include how Replicant characters (Emil, Devola, Popola) appear in Automata, as well as locales (Kaine’s shack, the library). While the base story of Automata doesn't require knowledge of Replicant to get it, playing the prequel will give you a better understanding of the world and returning characters.

As a note, the article only focuses on the NieR series. However, these games actually connect to Yoko Taro’s other series, Drakengard, as well. Though most of Drakengard takes place in a world separate from the NieR series, the E ending in the first Drakengard game puts protagonists Caim and Angelus in modern-day Tokyo. The result of their fight against the Queen Beast directly leads to the events of NieR. Accord, a character from Drakengard 3, is also mentioned in NieR and NieR: Automata.

NieR Replicant is available on PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC. NieR Automata is available on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

NieR Games Series Heading to World Cosplay Summit 2024

An official collaboration event for the NieR game series will be held at the World Cosplay Summit 2024. The event will appear between August 2-4, 2024 at the Aichi Arts Center in Nagoya, and more information will appear in late May 2024.

The collaboration will consist of three different events, which will be taking place on the Oasis 21 special stage on August 4, 2024. The first one is the NieR World Cosplay Report 2024. It will be a photo contest. Participants can cosplay any character from the NieR series, and they can be of nationality or place of residence. Cosplay photos taken in the past are accepted, including invididual, pair, and group photos.

From the submitted pictures, 10 notable entries will be selected and awarded special prizes. The most outstanding winner will receive a trophy, and the other 9 winners will receive signed autographs and other special gifts. These will be announced during the World Cosplay Summit 2024. Applications for the NieR World Cosplay Report 2024 will be available between June 1 to July 14, 202 from the World Cosplay Summit 2024 official website.

The second event will be the “Cosplay Summit Selection with NieR.” A special NieR-themed cosplay runway will be featured at the Oasis 21 special stage on August 4. Participants will be able to apply online all throughout the month of June 2024. In the case of too many cosplayers applying for the runway, the World Cosplay Summit management office will select the participants.

Meanwhile, the third and final event will be the “Otaku Judge NieR:QuizMaster12024 Prestige.” This will be a themed quiz, and it will appear ahead of the Fall 2024 collaboration event with the Otaku Judge mobile quiz app. 10 participants who answer the quiz correctly will receive special goods and prizes. Once again, the location will be the Oasis 21 special stage on August 4, and ission to the quiz will be free of charge.

As a reminder, NieR series producer Yosuke Saito recently said that he is in talks with series director Yoko Taro and composer Keiichi Okabe to work on a new game that “might be NieR, or might not be NieR.”

Naraka: Bladepoint Nier Event

The Nier series event is live alongside the new patch for Naraka: Bladepoint. The event was originally announced back in July, 2023, with its own theme song titled "The Flame of Fate." The event launched on August 10, 2023, and it will remain available until September 6, 2023. An official site for the event is open.

During the event, players will be able to earn cosmetic rewards or purchase outfits and weapon skins based on Nier characters like 2B, 9S, and Kainé. Completing all the event quests will also net you a legendary longsword skin called "Replicant·Moonrise," while opening mythic treasures gives you a chance to earn the legendary rarity 2P outfit.

As well as a slate of balance adjustments, the update also brings new mechanisms and map changes to the game, as well as the new character Tessa with her own event, Vixen's Trick.

Naraka: Bladepoint has previously collaborated with games like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty with an event that allowed players to earn a replica of Lu Bu's mask.

Naraka: Bladepoint is immediately available on the PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One and Series X/S, with the Nier crossover event taking place August 10, 2023 through September 6, 2023. You can read the patch notes at the official site.

Rainbow 6 Siege 2B Nier

It's time for the operators of Team Rainbow to lock and load for the Glory of Mankind. Rainbow Six Siege players can now purchase two cosmetic bundles based on NieR Replicant and NieR Automata. They contain items that will allow players to cosplay in-game as NieR series characters 2B and Nier. The Rainbow 6 Siege 2B pack is called the Elite Iana YoRHa bundle, and the previously revealed Rainbow 6 Siege Nier pack is called the Maverick NieR Replicant bundle.

Check out the trailer for the Rainbow 6 Siege 2B cosmetics below.

The Elite Iana YoRHa Bundle is designed for the character Iana, an Attacker operator from the Netherlands. Iana commands the power of the Gemini Replicator gadget in-game. It creates a holographic decoy of Iana. That decoy can then be controlled remotely to scout ahead, spot traps, and deceive defenders. The Rainbow 6 Siege 2B cosmetic dresses Iana in a YoRHa-issue Android uniform, including the standard blindfold, dress, and high-heeled boots. Her standard-issue ARX200 assault rifle and Mk1 9mm sidearm also get a color scheme that matches that of the Machine Lifeforms from NieR Automata.

Below is the full trailer for the Rainbow 6 Nier bundle, which applies to American operator Maverick.

Maverick wields a special Exothermic-S "Suri" Breaching Torch. The torch can burn through any breachable surface in the game to create lines of sight or paths for entry. The Maverick NieR Replicant bundle dresses the Delta Force operator up as Nier. The costume matches the look of Nier from Act II of the story, and includes engraved skins for Maverick's M4 and AR-15.50 assault rifles and 1911 TACOPS handgun.

The Rainbow 6 Siege NieR series cosmetic bundles are available for purchase. The game itself can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

maverick replicant bundle

NieR and the Grimoire Weiss are ready for a new adventure, as they will be appearing in Rainbow Six Siege as part of the Maverick Replicant bundle. According to the Rainbow Six Siege Twitter , more NieR collaboration content will appear in the future. It will reveal details in regards to that during its Year 7 Season 4 reveal .

As this is the protagonist of Replicant and not Gestalt, this is Brother Nier and not Father Nier. Having said that, since the model is Maverick (with a wig and an outfit making him look like Nier), one could pretend that he is the father version of the character. The trailer video ends with the tagline “A YoRHa solder is approaching… Glory to mankind!. This implies that either 2B or 9S may also appear as a collaboration skin.

In addition to dres Maverick as Nier, you will also be able to unlock a new MVP pose, as well as a weapon skin. In total, the bundle will have six items in it.

Rainbow Six Siege crossed over with several other intellectual properties in the past. In May 2022, Kiryu Kazuma appeared as a skin for Echo in the Yakuza collaboration. It also had a collaboration with Arknights, with Rainbow Six Siege characters appearing as playable units there.

Rainbow Six Siege is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. It is also on Google Stadia, though the service will shut down on January 18, 2023. The Maverick Replicant bundle will be available for purchase from November 21, 2022.
