Square Enix announced new pieces of NieR Replicant and NieR: Automata merchandise featuring Emil’s face, with the Black Box from Automata and Mama from NieR Reincarnation also appearing. All of them are expected to launch in Japan on July 26, 2025, and AmiAmi is taking orders for them and shipping worldwide. Due to the Trump tariffs, these items didn't show up in the US store yet.

The Emil NieR Replicant drawstring bag costs 2,530円 (~$18). It’s over seven inches tall (195mm) and seven inches (180mm) wide. There is a brocade-style pattern on the back, with Emil’s face on the front.

Each of the three rubber trays are also 2,530円 (~$18) each. These are all based on identifiable icons from the games. So the NieR Replicant representative for this series of merchandise is Emil, the NieR: Automata one is the Black Box, and the NieR Reincarnation design features Mama. In the case of the Black Box, it also glows in the dark. Each one is about 5 inches (130mm) tall and 5 inches (125mm) wide.

Speaking of NieR Reincarnation, something could be happening with the now-dead mobile game. On the anniversary site’s page for a short web novel, text appeared suggesting a potential return.

Something is happening with the NieR game series 15th anniversary site, which first opened on April 19, 2025, and there is now a teaser for something related to NieR Reincarnation as of April 25, 2025. [Thanks, MintDrakeNier!] 

Thisteaser appears on a new page called “Special Novel [U]ndecided Option.” Following the update on April 25, 2025, a NieR Reincarnation section appears. More importantly, at the end is a section of text that appears in English. It mentions a “recovery protocol” and directs people to the Japanese website for the mobile game. It then noted “analysis comments added to the source code” and “process forcibly halted.”

Square Enix shut down the spin-off mobile game back on April 29, 2024. It closed worldwide. However, elements of it were preserved via things like a novel. It initially followed a young girl named Fio who found herself stuck in a Cage and would go through different stories. However, there were multiple protagonists present, and additional arcs added new heroes and insights into the nature of the Cage.

There is still another update planned for [U]ndecided Option. That will appear on May 2, 2025.

Square Enix announced a third NieR Reincarnation soundtrack will be releasing in April 2025. It will be the soundtrack that covers the final chapter of the mobile game, which appeared just before it was closed.

NieR Reincarnation Original Soundtrack: The People and the World will feature 16 tracks from the original game. These tracks are taken from the third and final chapter of the game. The music was composed by Keiichi Okabe, Shotaro Seo and Kuniyuki Takahashi, who’d composed music for the previous chapters. Okabe has been the lead composer for multiple games in the series, including the original NieR, NieR Automata and Drakengard 3.

The soundtrack will release in Japan on April 30, 2025, for ¥3,080, and pre-orders are open on the Japanese Square Enix store. It will also release through the North American and European stores, although store pages for these territories have yet to go live. A price wasn't mentioned for those regions yet.

NieR Reincarnation: The People and the World was the final chapter of the mobile game. It was released in March 2024, a month before the game’s ultimate closure. The soundtrack’s release date is shortly after an anniversary live stream, which will feature a short concert.

The official NieR on X (Twitter) announced a live stream to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the game series. You can catch it on NicoNico and YouTube on April 19, 2025 from 6:00 PM, and it’ll run for about two and a half hours. As a note, the above time and date is JST. It would convert to 2am PT and 5am ET on April 19, 2025.

If you have a NicoNico , there’s an additional talk show after the stream. Also of note is that the talk part during the stream may contain spoilers for NieR, NieR Automata, and NieR Reincarnation. Aside from talking about the games, you’ll also be able to enjoy a short concert.

Square Enix and the now-defunct Cavia first released NieR for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. The Japanese version of the game, Replicant, was on the PS3 and featured the titular protagonist as a young man. Meanwhile, Gestalt came out on the Xbox 360 and featured an older version of the main character. The series is a spinoff of the Drakengard series, taking place after the fifth ending.

Nier was more a cult classic than anything, whereas its sequel, Nier Automata, is the one that most people today think of when they hear the series name. It sold over 9 million copies worldwide as of December 2024, and received multiple accolades and nominations in various awards between 2017 and 2018.

The NieR 15th anniversary live stream for the game series will run for two and a half hours at 6:00 PM JST of April 29, 2025.

Good Smile Company has opened pre-orders for another run of the NieR Reincarnation Girl of Light Nendoroid. Pre-orders will remain open until April 2, 2025, with the second run of this Nendoroid expected to ship sometime in August 2025. It will cost 6,600 yen or $43.

The NieR Reincarnation The Girl of Light Nendoroid will come with several accessories, which include a series of faceplates and arms. Other optional parts include accessories for Mama, the ghostly figure shown in the images.

NieR Reincarnation was a mobile game set in the NieR universe. The Girl of Light, and her companion, Mama, were one of several protagonists in the series. The narrative of the game was told through multiple perspectives in short vignettes, with a handful of storylines melding together in the finale. Alongside this, the game featured a handful of collaboration, bringing in characters from NieR: Automata and the Drakengard series into the fold. NieR Reincarnation was available for Android and iOS devices until April 2024. It did not receive an offline version.

Square Enix announced the new NieR: Piano Journeys cover album, which offers a variety of songs from the 3 titles in the video game series. The album costs $28.99/€24.99, it will release in North America and Europe sometime on April 2025, and it is now available for pre-order from the Square Enix online store.

Additionally, the Japanese Square Enix online e-store lists the release date for the album as April 16, 2025, where it costs 3,630 yen (~$23.48). The new piano cover collection album includes 10 songs from the NieR series, performed and covered by famous German pianist and composer Benyamin Nuss.

The NieR series is absolutely incredible and is enjoying the popularity and success it has deserved since the first game (with two versions) back in 2010. However, there is a major problem. With the end of the NieR Automata anime and Reincarnation, the series’ fans have nothing to look forward to now. As such, it feels like now is the time for a new game and true NieR Automata sequel.

Backing up a bit, NieR Automata first came out in 2017. It followed after a lengthy seven years of development following after the original NieR on the previous generation. Since then, sure, we have had Reincarnation, but that is a spin-off mobile game. There hasn't been a true third mainline title in the series in, you guessed it, more than seven years.

We just ed the gap between the two first games in real time. In addition, we are now in a new generation of consoles as well. The parallels here are pretty neat, while the series continues to be a popular one for Square Enix. It seems like 2025 is just the right time to announce and release the next game in the series.

But the long wait since NieR Automata isn’t the only factor to consider. There is also the element of how series fans like myself have nothing to look forward to now from NieR. NieR Reincarnation shut down earlier this year in April 2024. This was quite disappointing, as it was arguably the best, most professional free-to-play mobile gacha game I ever played.

And to make matters worse, the anime series NieR Automata Ver1.1a ended its run in September 2024. There is no new substantial content of any kind to look forward to now. But it still doesn’t stop there. What has Yoko Taro been up to the last few years? The wacky and lovable director of the series is in a bit of a slow period right now.

The last notable works Taro created was the NieR and KamiErabi anime series. The latter is still ongoing but Yoko Taro has shown he can work on multiple products at once. In addition, he hasn't worked on a notable game since the Voice of Cards titles in 2021 and 2022. Considering he worked on smaller titles in the same vein of these like SINoALICE at the same time as NieR Automata, it seems plausible he’s been cooking up something else all this time.

2025 just seems like the right time for this third title to come out. Interestingly enough, Square Enix’s slate of games next year is a bit light from what we know so far. All we know about right now is Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. To make matters worse, that is potentially in the first half of the year if I had to guess, so that means a barren year otherwise.

Without any other major announcements, this would be potentially the lightest year in Square Enix’s history. Kingdom Hearts 4 seems a bit too soon for 2025. The final part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy feels like 2027 at the earliest. The next FFXIV expansion shouldn’t come out until 2026. Outside of other remakes, smaller titles like perhaps a Harvestella 2, or possibly a new Bravely Default, 2025 looks lonely for Square Enix titles at best.

That is, unless a NieR Automata sequel comes out. This series has transcended from the niche market into the more mainstream side of RPGs. This would be a monumental experience for the current consoles of PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and possibly the Nintendo Switch 2. Now seems like the right time for a NieR game to be announced and released in 2025. So, don’t let us down, Yoko Taro.

Kadokawa announced that the official NieR Reincarnation art book will come out on November 28, 2024, instead of its expected launch date. The Ebten DX pack, as well as the bonus version of the art book exclusive to Ebten, will also be delayed until November 28, 2024.

When the book comes out later this year, there will be over sixty more pages than the original estimate. In total, the NieR Reincarnation art book will contain 528 pages, as opposed to 464. The price will remain the same at 4,950 JPY ($34.35). Kadokawa apologized for the delay, but promised to aim for more satisfying content in the final product.

The Ebten DX pack will cost 9,350 JPY ($64.90) and contains multiple pieces of merchandise along with the art boo. You’ll be able to get an F3 canvas board, a set of calendar postcards, an acrylic keyholder, and an A6 illustration card. This illustration card is also the exclusive bonus that comes with the art book if you purchase it from Ebten.

The NieR Reincarnation art book was supposed to come out on August 28, 2024 to commemorate the end of the game’s service. Inside of the book, there will be stills and images from the game, as well as behind-the-scenes notes on the design process. NieR Re[in]carnation ended service on April 29, 2024 after around three years.

An art book for NieR Reincarnation will come out on August 28, 2024 to commemorate the end of the game’s service. It will include character visuals and designs, weapon stories, as well as episodes that never made it into the proper game. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!]

Square Enix released a new trailer for the final chapter of NieR Reincarnation and reminded players of its March 28, 2024 release date. As a reminder, the game will end service one month later on April 29, 2024.

Furthermore, Square Enix shared a Japanese video recap of the story of NieR Reincarnation ahead of the release of the final chapter, as well as a special talk between Yoko Taro and the scenario writers for the game. The development team also shared a message on social media after the broadcast concluded, thanking players for their and for their messages.

On January 2024, Square Enix announced that NieR Reincarnation would be ending service in late April 2024. In addition to news of the game ending, the company shared a roap for the final chapters, events, and content updates that will appear in the game ahead of end of service.

NieR Reincarnation is available for Android and iOS devices and will end service on April 29, 2024 worldwide. The final chapter will appear on March 28, 2024.
