Square Enix Vocal Covers: Timeless Classics, a new cover album from Square Enix and Keiichi Okabe’s MONACA, will feature songs from NieR, NieR: Automata, Final Fantasy IX, FFX, and FFXIII. It will launch in Japan on June 25, 2025, with European and US debuts following in July 2025. It will cost $26.99/€19.99 and feature six versions of five songs. 

It sounds like all six songs will be performed by the same singer, with two of them being English covers and the other four being in Japanese. Square Enix didn’t reveal their identity yet though. It did share the track list, which consists of two versions of “Melodies of Life” alongside the other four performances.

Here’s the full list of songs:

1. “Weight of the World” English Version from NieR: Automata
2. “Kaine / Salvation” from NieR Replicant and Gestalt
3. “Suteki Da Ne” from Final Fantasy X
4. “The Sunleth Waterscape” from Final Fantasy XIII

Square Enix also started to share samples of the Square Enix Vocal Covers: Timeless Classics songs ahead of the album’s launch. It started with the first song on the album, which is the English version of “Weight of the World” from NieR: Automata. 

The second sample to appear showed off “Kaine / Salvation” from NieR Replicant and Gestalt.

The reveals are going in order, as the one that showed up after that is the third track, “Suteki Da Ne” from Final Fantasy X. 

The last one Square Enix shared is “The Sunleth Waterscape” from Final Fantasy XIII.

Amnibus and Square Enix announced a NieR: Automata YoRHa wax seal stamp set will release in Japan in October 2025, and it features the “Glory to Mankind” catchphrase from the series. The kit is ¥ 18,000 (~$122). It comes with everything needed to begin making seals, including a warmer, wax, spoon, and the wax seal stamp, in a box with art from the anime adaptation. 

Only the actual wax seal stamp in this NieR: Automata set is based on the series. Everything else includes more generic crafting materials for the activity. Said stamp has the YoRHa logo in the center. Around the circumference is the phrase “Glory to Mankind” around it. While the set only comes with black wax, those more advanced at creating seals could use tools to make this a multicolor one, with the logo and lettering in different colors than the background.

As for the rest of the items, you get one stick of black wax, a handle to attach to the stamp, the spoon, and the warmer. There are no tea light candles included, which are what you would need to place inside the warmer and light in order to melt the wax in the spoon.

The NieR: Automata YoRHa wax seal stamp set will launch in Japan in October 2025, and pre-orders are open at Amnibus until June 18, 2025. NieR: Automata can be found on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the anime is on Crunchyroll.

Square Enix announced new pieces of NieR Replicant and NieR: Automata merchandise featuring Emil’s face, with the Black Box from Automata and Mama from NieR Reincarnation also appearing. All of them are expected to launch in Japan on July 26, 2025, and AmiAmi is taking orders for them and shipping worldwide. Due to the Trump tariffs, these items didn't show up in the US store yet.

The Emil NieR Replicant drawstring bag costs 2,530円 (~$18). It’s over seven inches tall (195mm) and seven inches (180mm) wide. There is a brocade-style pattern on the back, with Emil’s face on the front. 

Here’s how that looks:

Each of the three rubber trays are also 2,530円 (~$18) each. These are all based on identifiable icons from the games. So the NieR Replicant representative for this series of merchandise is Emil, the NieR: Automata one is the Black Box, and the NieR Reincarnation design features Mama. In the case of the Black Box, it also glows in the dark. Each one is about 5 inches (130mm) tall and 5 inches (125mm) wide.

Speaking of NieR Reincarnation, something could be happening with the now-dead mobile game. On the anniversary site’s page for a short web novel, text appeared suggesting a potential return.

As part of the NieR series’ 15th anniversary, Square Enix released an interview with Creative Director Yoko Taro and Producer Yosuke Saito about the games, and that involved details about both the NieR and NieR: Automata inspiration and endings. In addition to citing Evangelionas an influence for the second game, the two talked about certain choices and endings for both the first and second titles.

First, the Evangelion element came up when Square Enix specifically brought up NieR: Automata inspirations. Yoko Taro mentioned that anime. He then also said, “But then, everything I make is influenced by Evangelion.”

As for the NieR and NieR: Automata endings, those came up twice. First, Saito brought it up. He mentioned how he wasn’t “supposed” to know about NieR and its Ending D deleting save data. However, he brought up how he did find out ahead of time. 

Here’s Yosuke Saito’s statement about that:

“Mr. Yoko kept the fact that the game deletes your save file a secret from me, but some other of the team revealed this to me in secret. My favorite memory is probably choosing to let this slide. "It's fine!" I said. "It's probably just an homage to Dragon Quest!”

Although apparently it wasn't an homage to Dragon Quest (laughs).”

Finally, Yoko Taro discussed the multiple endings in NieR: Automata. He cited how his past games and Square Enix’s requests affect design decisions. He noted, “That's an idea that we brought over from Drakengard. And the reason we did it is that Square Enix told us to ‘add more content!’”

As a reminder, we may hear about NieR Reincarnation again soon. The anniversary site included a teaser referencing the now-closed mobile game. An update will appear there on May 2, 2025.

Square Enix published an article explaining the connections between NieR Replicant and NieR Automata, which canonically take place a thousand years apart from each other. Yoko Taro, the creator of the series, retweeted the post on X (formerly Twitter) to assure readers that they can maybe play the games as stand-alone ones.

Those who’ve played both games should already know the majority of what’s listed in the article on Square Enix’s website. Of course, they do contain spoilers for those who haven’t (as does this article). Some of the connections listed include how Replicant characters (Emil, Devola, Popola) appear in Automata, as well as locales (Kaine’s shack, the library). While the base story of Automata doesn't require knowledge of Replicant to get it, playing the prequel will give you a better understanding of the world and returning characters.

As a note, the article only focuses on the NieR series. However, these games actually connect to Yoko Taro’s other series, Drakengard, as well. Though most of Drakengard takes place in a world separate from the NieR series, the E ending in the first Drakengard game puts protagonists Caim and Angelus in modern-day Tokyo. The result of their fight against the Queen Beast directly leads to the events of NieR. Accord, a character from Drakengard 3, is also mentioned in NieR and NieR: Automata.

The Square Enix e-store in Japan has stocked up on some more character goods from NieR Automata, featuring new artwork of the characters. You can get a set of pins, acrylic stands, stickers, and more.

All of the items will come out on July 26, 2025 in Japan, and you can pre-order them now from the Square Enix e-store. As of the time of writing, the items are not available in the North American version of the shop. Here are all the prices for the items:

There are two versions of the book covers and embroidered bookmark. For the book covers, you can get a version with Emil and the machine lifeforms. There’s also a 2B book cover. As for the bookmarks, you can either get one of Emil or one of Pod 042. The character artwork for the goods feature 2B, 9S, A2, Popola, and Devola posing with books. Game creator and illustrator Kimihiko Fujisaka, who provided the character designs and artwork for series like Drakengard, Voice of Cards, and Lord of Vermilion, drew these images. The acrylic stands and keychains depict each individual character, making for a total of five variations to collect.

NieR Automata is readily available on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

Square Enix will release a pair of NieR: Automata embroidered bookmarks — one featuring Emil, and another featuring Pod 042 and a fish. The bookmarks, while unconventional in their shape, will cost 2,200 yen or around $14. Pre-orders are now open, with the bookmarks expected to ship on July 26, 2025. These items are currently only available through the Japanese Square Enix online storefront.

As mentioned previously, each bookmark has a embroidered motif. One features Emil, a major character in the NieR series, head. The other is Pod 042 and a fish. The fish is meant to represent being able to fish in the game, or possibly eating it, which can result in 2B's demise.

Square Enix will also release a NieR: Automata 2B model kit. Pre-orders for the model kit are now available, and will come with various accessories. This includes 2B's signature swords, and Pod 042.

NieR Automata is available for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The anime adaptation is available to watch via Crunchyroll. Pre-orders for the bookmarks are open through the Japanese Square Enix online store. They will release on July 26, 2025.

Square Enix will release a NieR: Automata 2B Model Kit. It will cost 9,900 yen or around $68. Pre-orders are available through the official Square Enix online store. The NieR: Automata 2B Model Kit will come with several accessories, including Pod 042, and will release on September 27, 2025.

The model kit has been sculpted by Kotobukiya, and as mentioned previously, will come with various accessories. This includes Virtuous Contract and Virtuous Treaty — 2B's primary weapons of choice. It will also come with three face parts, five hand parts, an additional torso part, the black box, and decals for the print on 2B's skirt and eyes.

Square Enix also announced that 9S and 2B figures are in development. Like the model kit, both figures are produced by Kotobukiya. While the prototypes appear unpainted, the final produce will be painted. The design of both figures draw inspiration from the NieR Automata Ver1.1a anime adaptation. No release date for the figures has been shared.

NieR series creator Yoko Taro was told to make NieR: Automata focusing on the Japanese market without worrying about overseas reviews. The developer recently shared an anecdote about the game’s creation on X (formerly Twitter).

In a recent interview with AV Watch, Shuhei Yoshida of Sony and PlayStation fame, credited NieR: Automata with being one of the games that changed the direction of the Japanese market from trying to imitate Western games and Hollywood-style trends circa the PS3 era. Yoshida also said that he thinks the Japanese game industry “revived after NieR.”

Yoko Taro shared the interview on his personal social media and thanked Yoshida for his words. He then added that it was NieR: Automata Producer Yosuke Saito who “ordered” Taro to make a game “for the Japanese market without worrying about overseas reviews.”

Here’s another direct from Yoko Taro regarding the instructions Producer Saito gave him on NieR: Automata:

“I he said something like "Yoko, you're incapable of making games for overseas, so (at least) give it your best for the Japanese market."”

Yosuke Saito himself responded to Yoko Taro’s post, by adding “That's not exactly what I said lol. What I meant was, because we're Japanese people there's no need to go out of our way to appeal to overseas audiences. We can probably attract around a million people across the world who want to play a Japanese game made by a Japanese person (the one and only Yoko Taro!)” Yoko Taro responded to his interaction with Yosuke Saito with a final, “Aren't we saying the same thing? (laughs).”

Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for the NieR Automata bunny girl A2 figure worldwide. She’ll cost ￥39,600 / $415.99, depending where you order her. She’ll show up in Japan in October 2025, but we might not see her worldwide until Q1 2026 depending on the storefront picked. Her look is inspired by both the anime and game.

This is a static figure of A2. There are no additional parts. You can’t change her pose or faceplate. She’s wearing a traditional bunny girl costume, which involves a black, one-piece swimsuit, black gloves, white cuffs, thing-high, high heel boots, black fishnet tights, a white collar with black bow tie, and black bunny ears. As she’s a 1/4 figure, she’s taller than most standard ones and will be over 19 inches tall when she arrives. (It does seem like about an inch of that, at least, will be made up of her bunny ears.)

The 2B bunny girl figure pre-orders already opened. She’s also expected to release around the same time, though we will end up seeing A2 about two months sooner. Unlike the A2 one, there’s a bit of customization to her. You can switch face parts. This would allow you to pose her either with or without her goggles, so you can decide whether or not you want to see her eyes.

Back in February 2025, Square Enix, Good Smile Company, and Freeing announced NieR Automata bunny girl figures of 2B and A2. Now, there’s a release window and price for one of them. The Bunny version of 2B will debut in December 2025 in Japan, with a worldwide release following. She’ll cost ￥39,600/$415.99. 

The reason for the increased cost is that the 2B bunny girl figure is larger than most of the NieR Automata figures we’ve seen. She stands at over 19 inches tall, as she’s 1/4 scale. That height includes the stands. She’s locked into one pose, which features her in the black swimsuit, black fishnet stockings, black bolero, collar, gloves, bunny ears, and high heels. 

However, there will be some customization options. She can be displayed with or without the black goggles that cover her eyes. So you can swap out face plates to change her look slightly.

FuRyu revealed a new figure that will depict the famous NieR Automata character 2B in a Japanese Doll attire. The company has also opened pre-orders for the figure, which will be available in Japan in January 2026, with a price tag of 198,000 yen, or around $1,322.

Part of the reasons for the exorbitant price tag will be the figure's larger scale of 1/4 and an overall height of around 43 cm (~16.93 inches). The attire design for the static figure will also feature exquisite traditional Japanese art patterns.

While the FuRyu Hobby Mall website can only originally ship products domestically inside Japan, people residing outside the country can still place international orders via the Buyee widget. AmiAmi is also available as an alternative web store for non-Japanese residents. However, the latter can only ship the product to countries that EMS, but still excluding Argentina, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Spain, Denmark, and Rwanda.

As with most of the recent NieR Automata figures, this one will also be based on the character's appearances in the Ver1.1a anime adaptation rather than the original video game. The more recently revealed new figures include Good Smile Company's A2 figma and FREEing's bunny girl figures of 2B and A2.

Pre-orders for the 1/4 scale Japanese Doll version figure of 2B from the NieR Automata Ver1.1a anime adaptation are available until May 16, 2025. FuRyu will formally release the figure in January 2026.

This one is more expensive than most games on this list, but it also includes four Kingdom Hearts games and two movies. The Remix collection includes the first two mainline games as well as Birth By Sleep, Re:chain of Memories, and a cutscene collection from 358/2, and Re:coded. A must-play older game that everyone should experience.

A more modern game than most on this list – hence the price – we’ve added Lies of P as our soulslike of choice as it’s a great entry point for this subsection of the RPG genre. Far more story heavy than other soulslike games, Lies of P tells a steampunk Pinocchio story with challenging combat, and choices that have major outcomes on the story.

Starting in 1989, there are few series that are as long-lasting as The Legend of Heroes, and almost all of these games are on offer as part of the Steam Spring Sale. Trails of Cold Steel is one of the best games to jump into as it includes a four game story arc with a satisfying start and end. Once you get into the turn-based RPG series there are so many other games to explore that your wallet might just regret grabbing this first game.

Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for a series of rereleased Nendoroids based on NieR: Automata characters, including YorHa 2B, 9S, and A2 (Long Hair Version). Each Nendoroid will cost ￥6,600 with shipping expected in July 2025.

Both 2B and 9S come with two faceplates and removeable blindfolds, accompanying Pod units, and their Black Boxes. A2, meanwhile, comes with 3 faceplates and a sheet of B-Mode effects. Each of the characters come with stands, optional parts and weapons with effects, with 9S also coming with several Hacking effects and a small machine enemy.

Additionally, the US Good Smile Store also has Nendoroids of 9S and both Long Hair and Short Hair versions of A2 currently in stock, despite the NieR: Automata rerelease not appearing to affect that outlet.

The pre-orders for the figure opened today in both the Good Smile Company Japan and US online shops, with the pre-order period ending on April 23, 2025. The figure is fully articulated and it stands at approximately 160mm (or 6.30 inches) tall when set upright.

Alongside a base to set A2 in different action or resting poses, the figure comes with various hand parts and three face plates; a standard one, a face with gritted teeth, and a shouting face. Additionally, other parts included are a Type-4O small sword and large blade, as well as various alternate hair pieces, such as a dynamic long hair part, and a short hair part.

The figure was originally announced during the Wonder Festival 2025 back in February 10, 2025 alongside another scale figure of A2, both of them based on the character’s appearance in the NieR: Automata Ver1.1a anime adaptation.

The NieR: Automata Ver1.1a figma figure of A2 costs $110.99/12,800 yen and it will release on January 2026 in Japan and Q2 2026 in North America. The game is available on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Windows PC. There is also an anime adaptation that is available to stream via Crunchyroll.
