NHK revealed that it will air a special television show showcasing songs from Hololive Vtubers starring Hoshimachi Suisei. The show will air under the title "Venue101 Presents Vtuber Special," and it will appear in Japan on March 22, 2025.

Hoshimachi Suisei will appear in the show as its host. NHK noted that it chose the specific Hololive Vtuber because she has made numerous achievements, such as a successful concert at the Nippon Budokan in February 2025 and her "Bibbidiba" music video getting over 100 million views on YouTube as a record for Vtuber songs.

Suisei also published a message on the webpage, which hints that she will perform a special song besides interacting with the show's guests. However, she will not only showcase her own songs as she will also introduce hit songs from other fellow Hololive Vtubers. The songs will come from not only fellow Japanese Vtuber Houshou Marine but also the Indonesian group Vtuber Kobo Kanaeru and Hololive English's Mori Calliope.

Hololive Vtuber songs have been one of the topics Cover is focusing on. The company, which also hosts the Hololive Production agency group, revealed a new mobile game codenamed Dreams during the Hololive 6th Fes concert. It noted that this game will let its players "enjoy Hololive songs," which suggests that it will have belong to the rhythm game genre.

The "Venue101 Presents Vtuber Special" episode featuring Hololive songs will air on the NHK channel on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11 AM JST.

The January 8, 2025 episode of Kaitai Kingdom on NHK will focus on how staff took down the giant Gundam display in Yokohama. You’ll be able to catch the program from 7:57 AM (2:57pm PT/5:57pm ET on January 7, 2025). [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

The main theme of the show focuses on whether or not people can take apart this giant Gundam without damaging any of the parts. Since the Gundam will next appear at the Gundam Next Future Pavilion in Osaka, the staff can’t afford to damage it during the dismantling process. In some screenshots of the show, we can see them using giant cranes on both land and sea. According to the description on NHK’s website, one of the potential dangers in taking apart the figure comes from using the ocean crane. This is due to the presence of mines that the American navy set up during the Pacific War.

The 60-foot-tall Gundam figure was first installed in December 2020 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam. It can move its limbs, move forwards and backwards, and kneel. 1.75 million people visited the Gundam display between December 2020 and late March 2024. More might have made the trip to see it, but they had to restrict the number of visitors during the pandemic.

The Gundam episode of Kaitai Kingdom will air on January 8, 2025 in Japan.

A Pokemon x Kogei art exhibition will take place in Japan from April 26 to June 15, 2026. You’ll be able to purchase tickets in January 2025.

The full name of the exhibition is “Pokemon x Kogei: Playful Encounters of Pokemon and Japanese Craft,” according to the show’s English website. Kogei is the Japanese word for craft, and the exhibition will show off the work of twenty different craft artists. Among them include Living National Treasures, which is the informal term for individuals who receive subsidies from the Japanese government to perform and make art.

This is not the first time that the exhibition appeared. Multiple Japanese museums and exhibition halls have hosted this event, and it was even in the Japan House Los Angeles in the United States. There are additional art pieces to look at, so even if you already visited before, you might see something new.

The website for the exhibition features some examples of works you might see. Kasumi Ueba created a Shaymin piece using stone, with a fern arabesque pattern all over its body. Meanwhile, Eiichi Shiroma created a silken kimono pattern displaying Alolan Pokemon (and Pikachu). You can check out other pieces via the site if you’re interested.

The Pokemon Kogei art exhibition will run from April 26 to June 15, 2026 at the Matsuzakaya Art Gallery in Aichi.

Yoasobi will be in charge of writing and performing the NHK Sports 2024 theme song. The duo will be collaborating with three mangaka with series in Shonen Jump+ and a novelist to create an original song.

The song, according to the NHK, will play in streams of a variety of sports this year, as well as in the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. For this project, Shueisha has requested three sports mangas from three Jump+ manga artists. Once they finish the mangas, writer Jun Esaka, who has worked on many Naruto novelizations, will write a novel based on them. Then, Yoasobi will create an original song based on that.

Taizan 5, who worked on Takopi’s Original Sin, wrote a story called Hanareta Futari. It appears to be a story about a soccer team. Yuki Kirishima, who worked on one-shots like Metamololita, wrote Parallel Lane. It seems to focus on a guy and a girl, though it’s unclear what sport they play. Finally, Hirusagari Haruno wrote Owaranai Deuce, which seems to feature two girls who play tennis.

Yoasobi is a very popular Japanese music duo featuring Vocaloid producer Ayase and singer-songwriter Lilas Ikuta. Yoasobi has released many major songs for anime, including “Idol” for Oshi no Ko, “Kaibutsu” for Beastars, and “Shukufuku” for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. It has also released songs based on stories, such as “Gunjou” for Blue Period and “Seventeen” for Iro Chiagi no Trump.

The Yoasobi NHK sports theme song will play during major sports events such as the Olympics and Paralympics in 2024.

game genome

NHK has revealed its line-up of games that its TV show Game Genome will cover in season 2. It’ll start airing its episode on Final Fantasy XIV on January 10, 2024. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]

There will be ten episodes in total. The list of games that Game Genome will cover is:

  • Final Fantasy XIV (January 10, 2024)
  • Street Fighter series (January 17, 2024)
  • Journey (January 24, 2024)
  • Mushiking: The King of Beetles, Love, and Berry: Dress Up and Dance! (January 31, 2024)
  • It Takes Two
  • Power Pros
  • NieR Automata
  • Cities: Skylines
  • Fatal Frame
  • Earthbound

Each episode will end with information on the next episode’s release date and guests. While we have the concrete release dates for the first four episodes, it’s a little unclear what the order will be for the last six games on the list. As a note, 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of Earthbound, and Hobonichi and Nintendo have promised many campaigns and events to celebrate it. So they might give some information about the anniversary during the Earthbound episode.

Artist Yoshitaka Amano, who has contributed artwork for the Final Fantasy series over the years, has drawn an illustration for the show. The art represents the many genres of video games, and a genome surrounds the goddess in the middle of the picture. The piece will appear on the set as decoration, and a CG-animated version of it will appear in the opening.

Game Genome started airing in October 2022 on NHK. It offers a deep analysis of famous or beloved games, with the game’s developers appearing on the show to explain what makes their game deep or special. The first season covered games like Dark Souls, Death Stranding, and Life is Strange.

Game Genome season 2 will start airing on NHK on January 10, 2024.

NHK Neon Genesis Evangelion Demon Slayer

NHK announced LiSA and Yoko Takahashi will appear during the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen New Year's program to perform Demon Slayer and Neon Genesis Evangelion music. Yoko Takahashi will perform "Cruel Angel's Thesis" from Neon Genesis Evangelion during the program. Additionally, LiSA will perform "Homura" the theme of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train during the NHK New Year's Program. The Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra will also appear during the program to perform music from the Dragon Quest series. The program will begin at 7:30pm JST and end at 11:45pm JST. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

NHK picked these performances based on the relevance the series, or artists, had on 2021. Specifically, NHK will have Takashi perform "Cruel Angel's Thesis" during the New Year's program due to the release of Evangelion 3.0+1.0, or Shin Evangelion. This will also be the first time the song will be performed at Kohaku Uta Gassen. Additionally, the Demon Slayer performance will feature an animated video that will play behind LiSA as she performs the song.

Both Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train and Neon Genesis Evangelion were among the top trending topics in Japan in 2021. Demon Slayer took third place on the list. Other notable names on the list included Fate/Grand Order and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
