Over a year and a half after the launch of My Hero Ultra Rumble, the My Hero Academia battle royale game, Byking and Bandai Namco announced crossplay is being added in Season 10. It will be a part of the initial additions available on March 26, 2025. 

Few details about crossplay were mentioned in the reveal. For example, Bandai Namco didn’t note if it can be enabled or disabled in the options. However, the company did note it will apply to all platforms. So those of us on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC can all together in the same matches of the My Hero Academia game.

More insight into the rest of the My Hero Ultra Rumble Season 10 updates came up. Hitoshi “Hypnosis Hero: Nighthide” Shinso is the latest playable character available now. There’s also a new Shota “Eraser Head” Aizawa costume. In April 2025, there will be a Quirk Skill Set. We’ll also be able to get Uraraka and Asui idol-inspired costumes. Then in May 2025, Present Mic and All Might costumes will appear.

Season 9 of My Hero Ultra Rumble kicked off back in January 2025. The new character in that season ended up being the villain Kurogiri. We also could start fighting in Chaos City. New costumes for characters like Present Mic, Kurogiri, Kakugo, and Toga appeared too.

My Hero Ultra Rumble is available on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and the Season 10 additions for the game are available now. The manga is available via Viz Media, while the anime is streaming on Crunchyroll.

At TGS 2023, Bandai Namco revealed the new My Hero Academia game will appear sooner than people might expect. The My Hero Ultra Rumble release date is September 28, 2023. People will be able to play the free-to-play game on all consoles and PCs. It also confirmed Ibara “Vine” Shiozaki, Eijiro “Sturdy Hero: Red Riot” Kirishima, and Momo “Everything Hero: Creati” Yaoyorozu will all be part of the cast at launch. (All three were teased back in August 2023.) There’s also a new trailer going over it.

In My Hero Ultra Rumble, you pick one of the hero or villain characters from My Hero Academia and head into the game. You’ll be on a team of three, and there will be 24 people total all fighting at once. As you go through the game, you’ll be able to eventually update your characters’ appearances via costumes and emotes. Also, as this is a free-to-play game, there will be seasonal update that bring in new cosmetics and characters.

Here’s the TGS 2023 My Hero Ultra Rumble release date trailer that shows off the characters and how the game works. At the 50 second mark, Kirishima, Yaoyorozu, and Shiozaki all show up. There are no teases going over what to expect from its second season yet.

Bandai Namco added more details about its appearance at TGS 2023 by updating its webpage. The company will reveal more new information on titles like Tekken 8, Sand Land, My Hero Ultra Rumble, and Synduality at Tokyo Game Show 2023.

The company will also hold a 30-hour non-stop livestream from September 23, 2023, at 3am CET/10am JST/6pm PT/9pm ET. It will include a speedrun attempt on Tales of Arise that will go through midnight in Japan.

Bandai Namco also confirmed that its TGS 2023 booth will include playable demos of Tekken 8, Sand Land, SynDuality: Echo of Ada, and SD Gundam G Generation Eternal. However, it will limit demo access to visitors on public days (Saturday and Sunday) with lottery tickets. The FAQ segment included a note that registrations for these tickets are only open to residents of Japan. The only way for foreign visitors to play these demos will be to gain access to the venue on business days (Thursday and Friday).

Tokyo Game Show 2023 will take place at Makuhari Messe in Japan on September 21-24, 2023.

Bandai Namco offered details about what to expect from new characters in the new My Hero Academia game My Hero Ultra Rumble. The developers will gradually increase the size of the cast. This will happen when new seasons start. There’s also a teaser for three additions to the roster.

The announcement noted that like other My Hero Academia characters, such ones who we saw in the My Hero Ultra Rumble beta, their Quirks will determine their moveset. However, as we don’t know who the first three are yet, we don’t know how that would influence their battle royale behavior. The one in the middle almost looks like it could be the silhouette of Ibara “Vine” Shiozaki. It seems like it could be her thorny hair.

As a reminder, this will be a free-to-play battle royale for 24 players at a time. Each character will be an Assault, Rapid, Strike, , or Technical type. Confirmed characters so far include Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochaco Uraka, Shoto Todoroki, All Might, Tsuyu Asui, Tomura Shigaraki, Dabi, and Himiko Toga.

My Hero Ultra Rumble will come to the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Fall 2023, though there’s no exact release date for the My Hero Academia game yet. The anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, while the manga is available via Viz Media outside Japan.

Bandai Namco announced when a PS4 My Hero Ultra Rumble open beta will be held, sharing times and dates. the first session runs May 25-26, 2023. Then a second There will appear May 26, 2023 through June 1, 2023. 15 playable characters during this beta, with Denki “Stun Gun Hero: Chargebolt” Kaminari, Itsuka “Battle Fist” Kendo, and Tenya “Turbo Hero: Ingenium” Iida new to the cast. There’s also a new trailer showing off the free-to-play battle royale. A previous beta appeared in August 2022.

Bandai Namco's been on a tear lately. Between Gundam Evolution, Dragon Ball The Breakers, and now My Hero Ultra Rumble, the company's testing no less than three distinct multiplayer-oriented games based on popular anime properties. I got the chance to the second My Hero Ultra Rumble beta test over the weekend. While there's still some work to be done on the game, fans of My Hero Academia may find a new place to tear things up online once it hits full release.

My Hero Ultra Rumble is a My Hero Academia-based take on the battle royal genre. Eight teams of three players duke it out for supremacy while controlling characters from the My Hero Academia series. Options include eight Heroes and four Villains, in any combination (though the game doesn't allow two players to choose the same character on the same team). On the Hero side, players can choose from Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki, Ochako, Tsuyu, All Might, Cementoss, and Mt. Lady. Villain characters include Tomura, Dabi, Himiko, and Mr. Compress. There's more room on the character select menu to add characters, but the twelve present feels like plenty to start with.

Like most battle royal games, players sprawl out over the map and usually spend the first few minutes scrambling for "gear". The gear takes the form of power ups and items. Items can heal you or add to your "Guard Point" gauge. GP is basically a Fortnite-style shield that absorbs damage before health, but GP is especially important in My Hero Ultra Rumble. That's because it keeps you from flinching or getting knocked around while it's up. Not having an attack interrupted is basically the key to winning an equal exchange of damage, so scrambling for GP potions is a big priority. Power cards can be equipped like items to provide a power boost when used, but can also level up your three powers. That's also important, as leveled-up powers become devastatingly effective.

Every character in My Hero Ultra Rumble is unique, with playstyles and unique actions based on their "Quirk" superpowers. It's fun to see how each character gets their power set boiled down to three moves and a unique action. Deku, in his Shoot Style outfit, can shoot air blasts from his fists, do a flying kick, and use a whip-like power to snare enemies and pull them close. As I'm not caught up with the show or manga, I had no idea he even had that whip power. His unique action is to carry a teammate that's been downed to safety. Other characters are a bit more unique. Characters are divided into "roles" indicating their specialty. Assault characters like All Might and Deku are durable, but generally need to get close to do their best work. Strikers like Bakugo and Todoroki can deal damage at range as well, and move quickly across the field. Technical characters like Ochako and Dabi specialize in using unusual strategies and traps to get the drop on foes. Rapid characters like Tsuyu and Himiko move quickly and can take advantage of stealth or hit-and-run strategies. Finally, characters like Cementoss and Mr. Compress can hinder enemies with their unusual attack properties.

In practice this results in a lot of chaotic scrumming as people get into big brawls with powers flying every which way. It can be tough to get a bead on a single enemy in the confusion. No wonder that the first beta resulted in a lot of players taking full advantage of characters with huge areas of effect. Mt. Lady in particular can grow really big and simply stomp a zone to dust before her enemies can get out of the danger zone. Bandai Namco did say after the first beta that these characters would be toned down a bit. I didn't participate in the first test, so I can't say if they feel less overpowered than before, but they do feel a bit easier to use, because you don't have to worry as much about aiming or focusing on one target to make a big impact.

Personally, I found the most enjoyment in My Hero Ultra Rumble playing and watching experienced players use technical characters. It was a joy to watch a teammate in spectator mode utterly demolish two or three teams with Ochako. This obvious expert lured them into traps of floating debris, and sprang away to safety with combinations of Ochako's zero-G jumping and her grappling hook-like ranged attack. Once the game comes out fully, the early stages where people are finding out how to make all the characters work together might make for an exciting time.

Less exciting is the apparent monetization structure. My Hero Ultra Rumble will be free-to-play, but it'll be ed by the gacha. The game has a built-in "Roll" system and banners for cosmetic items. You can roll skins like the fantasy-themed "Parallel World" character designs, as well as things like emotes and voice lines. There didn't seem to be any indication that new playable characters or variants would be added this way, though, so it can be ignored to an extent. There's also a "shop" function where players can exchange in-game currency earned from matches for costumes. Not everything that was on the gacha was present in the shop, though.

Though My Hero Ultra Rumble is a bit of a rough and unbalanced experience at the moment, there's a lot of potential for a unique and fast-paced take on superpower-enhanced battle royal. It remains to be seen whether Bandai Namco can manage to deliver the variety a game like this needs to thrive in the long term, though.
