Capcom still shares some updates on past games like Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, and one of the more fascinating glimpses offered a look at Lunagaron hunter armor concept art. The early designs resemble the final pieces pretty closely. In both cases, the final examples in the game are nearly identical to what the team had in mind.

First, here is what the two pieces of what the team had in mind when creating the concept art for Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Lunagaron hunter armor. In each case, they are blue, full-body suits with white accents. The women’s version also appears to have wolf ears, while the men’s style involves a helmet. (Unlike in Monster Hunter Wilds, sets were gender-locked.)

Of course, we know how the Lunagaron armor turned out in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. Capcom even shared a video looking at what hunters, palamutes, and palicos would look like in it back in March 2022

As a reminder, here’s how the final versions for hunters, palamutes, and palicos turned out:

Capcom’s shown quite a bit of Lunagaron concept art over the years since Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak debuted. One of the most memorable pieces showcased a softer side of the monster. It offered a peak at what a family of the creatures might look like.  It really focused on the monster as a “puppy,’ showing it playing with siblings, running, nipping, eating, and being picked up by a parent.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Dracula Influences Pointed Out in Monster Hunter Malzeno Concept Art

Capcom often shares insight into Monster Hunter designs online, and the latest looks at the Dracula reference present in Malzeno from Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak. Artist Aehwa Shin offered some comments discussing this Elder Dragon, which appeared as the expansion’s flagship monster, alongside two pieces of art.

Here’s the full treet from Aehwa Shin looking at Malzeno’s design. Shin showed the cape-like elements to the wings, which appeared in all stages of the concept art. It also showed how additional fins and accents kept up the motif.

https://twitter.com/monsterhunter/status/1783119085552738699

We’ve seen of the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak team share concept art of Malzeno before. Director Yoshitake Suzuki did so back in 2021. That piece showed the Elder Dragon in front of the moon, as it appeared in its reveal. It also showed the sort of shadow it can cast.

So far, Malzeno has only appeared in one game in the series. It debuted to late to appear in any spin-offs like Monster Hunter Stories 2. That game did end up featuring more recent characters like Fatalis as a Co-op Quest monster, however. It is uncertain if we could end up seeing it in Monster Hunter Wilds when it launches in 2025.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Sunbreak Steam Deck

Steam Deck owners wanting to play Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak on their machines are out of luck this week, as a recent update patch resulted in the game becoming unplayable on the platform. While Capcom has not confirmed it, many are blaming the introduction of the Enigma DRM system in the update.

Ver.16.0.2.0 went live on all platforms on January 22, 2024, and it mainly served to make certain promotional DLC unavailable to reinstall. However, since the update some s have found evidence of the digital rights management software Engima being integrated into the game. While Capcom did not confirm the addition as being the source of the problems, similar issues popped up when the software was added to other Capcom games like Resident Evil Revelations. The company has, however, promised a hotfix for Sunbreak on Steam Deck sometime "in the very near future".

You can read the full patch notes for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Ver.16.0.2.0 on the official site, and find Capcom's official response to Steam Deck issues below:

https://twitter.com/monsterhunter/status/1749390124385771852

Earlier this month Takara Tomy announced 2 new Zoids model kits featuring designs based on Monster Hunter's Magnamalo and Rathalos. Capcom has also partnered with MSI Gaming to create several pieces of Monster Hunter-branded hardware and peripherals to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary.

Monster Hunter Rise and the Sunbreak expansion are readily available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. A fix for issues involving Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak on the Steam Deck is coming soon.

Ryozo Tsujimoto and Yoshitake Suzuki receive Japan Game Awards 2023 Grand Award for Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak

The first day of Tokyo Game Show 2023 featured an announcement event for Japan Game Awards 2023. Capcom's Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak won the most prestigious Grand Award.

The Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association narrowed down the top eleven titles from a list of popular games that were released in Japan from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak was included in the list and thus also won an Award for Excellence. The association ultimately decided that Sunbreak deserved to win the highest Grand Award out of the eleven titles.

A special of judges, which was led by Masahiro Sakurai and included Yoko Taro and Hideki Kamiya, deliberated separately for the Game Designers Award. The group gave this award to RPG Time: The Legend of Wright.

The presentation also included an award from Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry. While the minister usually gave this award to individual or group developers, the 2023 award went to Family Computer (a.k.a. Nintendo Entertainment System) for its contribution to the growth of Japan's gaming industry. The console is also celebrating its 40th anniversary since Nintendo launched it in Japan in 1983.

The company repeated this feat after Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite won back-to-back Grand Awards in 2007 and 2008, respectively.

In the 2022 edition, FromSoftware's Elden Ring won the Grand Award. The game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki also received an award from the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

Final Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Arrives

As expected from the final Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Digital Event about the bonus update, we learned the last one’s release date. On June 8, 2023, PC and Switch players will gain access to new content like an additional monster and some other extra features like quests. For PlayStation and Xbox players, the contents from the fourth, fifth, and bonus updates will all arrive at once on August 24, 2023. Specifically, things close out with Primordial Malzeno. Also, new event quests will appear until July 27, 2023. There will be new rewards like layered armors from them. Version 16 will introduce DLC packs, since DLC ended with version 15.

First, in case you missed the showcase, here it is. It involved Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Game Directors Yasunori Ichinose and Yoshitake Suzuki all discussing this latest installment. Right at the very beginning, it kicked things off by showing the new trailer. Primordial Malzeno was the main focus. People can encounter it at MR 10. After the trailer, the developers noted that Amatsu was almost the last monster. However, they decided to add new armor updates and different kinds of cosmetics.

As a reminder, the fifth update appeared on April 20, 2023. That was one day after the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Digital Event announcing it. During that update, Amatsu and Risen Shageru Magala appeared. It also meant new event quests like the one for Buff Body Armor and another for Alice layered armor.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is available on the Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the final Switch and PC update appears on June 8, 2023. The PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X will get versions 14, 15, and 16 on August 24, 2023 as one big update with all of the monsters and extra content at once. There's no release date yet for the DLC bundles that will pack together add-on content.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak - Animose Crossing Event Quest

Two new event quests are coming to Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak and this time one of them will make you face a pair of Magnamalos to get a special layered armor. In addition, players can test their might fighting against a Flaming Espinas and get special titles. Both quests are available on the Switch and PC via Steam.

Check out the new event quests announcement from the Monster Hunter Twitter below:
https://twitter.com/monsterhunter/status/1661526649962369024?s=20

The first new event quest in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is "Animose Crossing," adding in an "Animal Crossing pun. In this Dual Threat one, you will need to fight against two Scorned Magnamalo in the Forlorn Arena. Defeating them will reward you with the Heavenly Silk crafting item. You can then head to the Smithy to craft the new “Bloodmalice” layered armor set that uses it.

This armor set features a design reminiscent of the Magnamalo, as there are certain details such as claw-shaped boots and gauntlets. It should be noted that this is not the same Sinister Seal layered armor that's unlocked using the Magnamalo amiibo, as it has a completely different design.

As for the new Hazard quest, it is called “Legendary Strike.” It will make you fight a Flaming Espinas in the Forlorn Arena. Incidentally, both the Dual Threat and Hazard quests will require you to be Master Rank 10 or higher in order to accept them.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is readily available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The “Animose Crossing” and “Legendary Strike” event quests are already available for the Switch and PC versions.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak

A bug in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is deleting player's materials when we try to forge decorations for their armor. Developer Capcom identified the bug as appearing in versions ver.15.0 on the Nintendo Switch and PC, and in ver.13 on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Windows, PS4, and PS5. The bug appears to delete materials and armor spheres that are selected for use in decoration crafting if the player then cancels out of the menu instead of confirming.

Capcom is currently investigating the issue, but in the meantime recommends that players do not cancel decoration crafting after selecting materials. If you canceled accidentally, the company recommended entering another screen where you can select materials, including the screen just exited, and canceling out of that. If you have already lost materials to this bug, you can attempt to reboot the game without saving to access a previous save file.

You can see Capcom's Twitter statement below:

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is the expansion to 2021's Monster Hunter Rise. The game was recently updated to include the Silver Rathalos Event Quest and a Cat-themed layered armor set.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is immediately available on Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, Ps4 and 5, and Xbox One and X/S. While there is no estimated release date for when the bug will be fixed, you can follow the official Twitter for updates.

Monster Hunter Rise Silver Rathalos Event Quest

Capcom announced a new Event Quest for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. In “Oooooh Shiny…?”, the goal is to hunt a Silver Rathalos in the Lava Caverns, and players must be at least MR 10. The quest is available now for players on Steam and Nintendo Switch, after they’ve installed the latest update to the game. Players on other systems will not have access to the quest yet.

https://twitter.com/monsterhunter/status/1658990399237640192

The latest Event Quest will reward players with the Arrival Pose Set, as well as additional items that can be sold for a large amount of Zenny. Capcom did not specified what these additional items will be. Players can claim the quest from the Courier in Kamura Village or Elgado Outpost by choosing the Add-On option.

It’s the latest Event Quest to be added to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Sometimes these quests can award new items, such as the new pose in the latest quest. Other times, Event Quests simply award points, as in the Gore Magala Event Quest in November.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available now for the PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The latest event quest is available now, but only for PC and Switch players.

It’s the latest Event Quest to be added to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Sometimes these quests can award new items, such as the new pose in the latest quest. Other times, Event Quests simply award points, as in the Gore Magala Event Quest in November. Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak - Cat Armor

A new event quest headed to Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak will let players craft a new cat outfit. The quest called “A Mysterious Purr-esent” will pit hunters against a Somnacanth, a Mizutsune, and an Almudron in the Flooded Forest. The craftable set appears to be inspired by the classic Alice in Wonderland story, as the in-game name for the layered armor is “Alice.”

Take a look at the cat and Alice layered armors in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak from the official Twitter below.

This event quest’s name is “A Mysterious Purr-esent." To claim it, you just have to select Add-on Content via the Courier either in Kamura Village or the Elgado Outpost. Once accepted you will have to hunt three monsters: Somnacanth, Mizutsune, and Almudron. Completing the mission will reward you with Charming Foreign Drawings, which in turn you can use to craft the “Alice” layered armor at the Smithy.

Curiously enough, this isn’t the first time this armor set has appeared in the Monster Hunter series. The “Alice” costumes first appeared as unlockables in the now out-of-service MMORPG Monster Hunter Frontier. Rise Sunbreak has received other armor sets from that same game such as the “Reflet” and “Lennigan” maid-like layered armor.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is readily available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. The “A Mysterious Purr-esent” quest is also available to claim across all platforms.

Resident Evil 4 Monster Hunter Record Profits

Capcom announced another year of record profits in its Consolidated Results for the Year Ended March 2023 report. It attributed this to many factors, although both the remake of Resident Evil 4 and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak are mentioned by name.

Capcom’s net sales for the past financial year were 125.9 billion yen (roughly $936 million), an increase of 14.4% from the previous year. Operating income increased 18.4%, ordinary income was up by 15.9%, and net income was up 12.9%. This marks Capcom’s sixth consecutive year of record profits at all levels and a record high for net sales.

Resident Evil and Monster Hunter continue to be huge successes for Capcom. Resident Evil 4 reached sales numbers of 4 million units as of April 7, 2023 while Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has sold 5 million units as of January 18, 2023.

In addition to Resident Evil 4 and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Capcom attribute the company's success to sales of older digital titles and the use of their brands in movies, merchandise and esports. They aim to keep this up for the next financial year, with predictions of 140 billion yen in net sales.

The remake of Resident Evil 4 is available now for the PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X/S. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is out now for the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
