Since its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, the Monster Hunter franchise has introduced players to hundreds of unique creatures to battle and take down. Here is which Monster Hunter monster we think offered the most challenge.

I don’t like Rajang! I don’t! I especially hated Apex Rajang! I just didn’t beat it in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. If I have to fight that damned beast, I’ll get whatever ice equipment I can and try to blow it up, but I know it is going to be a tough fight. Like I love the challenge Monster Hunter provides, but this can be too much sometimes when facing off against Rajang. -- Jenni

Nergigante... I love this spiky friend, but to this day, I don't know how to dodge its big supersonic slam thing. I can deal with pretty much anything else in the game, but when it comes to Nergigante, it always comes down to whether I can do enough damage before it gets a third one of these moves off, and I'm sent back home in a cart! -- Elliot

Monster Hunter World threw a lot of curveballs with some tough monsters over its time, but Lunastra will always stick out as one of the most annoying but enjoyable. Good luck if you don’t bring any cold drinks, as she will destroy you. Fortunately, ice is a solid weakness if you can exploit it. -- Cody

Capcom set up a crossover with Monster Hunter 4 and Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo. The Nintendo 3DS game will get two missions where you can earn Uniqlo costumes.

In Uniqlo Endless Challenge, players will fight Tigrex and Tigrex side species. Players can earn Uniqlo Tickets to get the Universe Cosmos sword and Uniqlo armor for their hunter.

The Uniqlo In Search of an Idea mission has 12 types of Felynes and Melynx to takedown. Your reward here are Monqlo Tickets which can get you a Monqlo Cat Battle and a Monqlo Cat Series armor.

Xbox One launch title Dead Rising 3 broke the million mark along with the HD version of Resident Evil: Revelations. Capcom released the Nintendo 3DS game for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC last year.

DuckTales: Remastered, a remake of a Capcom developed NES game, over-performed, but specific sales numbers were not released. Originally, DuckTales: Remastered was digital only, but Capcom started selling the game in stores right before the holidays.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Dual Destinies reached projected sales.

Monster Hunter 4 for Nintendo 3DS was a hit for Capcom. The game was a strong seller in seller in stores and digitally. While the latest Monster Hunter game did well, Monster Hunter Frontier G performed lower than expected for Capcom. The PC/Xbox 360 online game was ported for PlayStation 3 and Wii U last year. A Vita version is also in development. Lost Planet 3 was also below expectations and mobile games, as a whole, underperformed.

Compared to last fiscal year, Capcom saw a boost in operating income from amusement machine and other businesses which includes character goods and guidebooks. Overall, Capcom's net sales increased 8.6% and Capcom booked 3,444 million yen ($33.8 million) in net income, up 15,9% compared to the previous fiscal year.

Universal Studios Japan is home to Capcom attractions like a Resident Evil haunted house during Halloween and a whole area just for Monster Hunter fans. Starting on April 7, you can get a special Feylne friend named Univer if you bring your Nintendo 3DS to Monster Hunter: The Real 2014.

Capcom will also distribute Universal Studios themed Guild Cards and blue & gold Universal Studios Japan armor for Monster Hunter 4. These designs are based on the Felyne designed for the theme park.

Capcom will bring Monster Hunter 4G to the West as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, but it isn't clear if any of these collaborative items will make it overseas.

Capcom have revised their operating income forecast for the fiscal year from 12 billion yen to 10 billion yen, the publisher announced today. Additionally, Capcom’s net income forecast has been reduced from 6.8 billion yen to 3.3 billion yen—a decrease of approximately 50%.

However, Capcom mentioned, the company’s sales are expected to increase from 97 billion yen to 101.5 billion yen.

The reason for the drop in operating income and profits, the company says, is due to the company’s Mobile Contents business and PC Online business—specifically Monster Hunter Frontier in the case of the latter—both of which performed below expectations.

Regarding Mobile Contents, due to changes in the games market, Capcom have been reorganizing their development framework and improving upon their development processes. However, they say, the company’s Mobile Contents division has yet to reflect the benefits of these changes.

As a result, Capcom has posted an extraordinary loss of 5 billion yen, related to “structural improvement expenses” pertaining to their Mobile Contents.

Meanwhile, sales are expected to improve as a result of Monster Hunter 4 seeing strong sales and the “highly successful” pachislot title Monster Hunter Gekka Raimei.

Late last year, Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto emphasized the importance of the company’s Consumer Games (the Japanese term used for traditional packaged games) division, and its role in growing the Mobile Contents business.

Monster Hunter 4 is getting more DLC in Japan, the issue of Jump magazine in Japan reports. The next collaborative piece of DLC will be with One Piece once again, and will feature Luffy’s “Gigant Pistol” and three of Zoro’s swords. (Thanks, kazu4281)

The Gigant Pistol will be a Dual Sword weapon. Meanwhile, Zoro’s swords—dubbed “Pirate Hunter’s Soul”—are of the Great Sword class.

This is the second major collaboration Monster Hunter 4 has enjoyed with One Piece. A previous collaboration brought Chopper to the game as a replacement for your Felyne, and also gave players access to weapons used by Usopp and Nami.

While Monster Hunter 4 will not be released in the west, Capcom will be bringing the updated version of the game, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (or 4G in Japan) to North America and Europe in early 2015.

Monster Hunter 4 is huge in Japan. We know this because there’s a special timed themed park attraction, an onsen (hot spring) you can go to, and even specially prepared food to chow down on. We never knew it was big in Fairy Land, though, until now.

Capcom have shown off a new set of commercials for the game, following the actions of the Three Little Pigs having a go at it, before the Big Bad Wolf bursts in on them.

He’s not there to eat them, though. In fact, the real reason is because he’s lonely for some friends to play co-op with! Hilariously, it appears he’s not very good at it, causing him to get beaten up and onished by the piggies. Poor wolfie. I’ve been there. There there. Now stop slacking and kill that thing!

There’s a year long collaboration going on between Capcom’s Monster Hunter series and the Shinshu Shiba Onsen (hot springs) in Nagano prefecture. As part of the deal, the onsen will regularly feature special foods and items in their shops for the aspiring hunter to eat and buy while kicking back in a relaxing onsen.

There’s also a special limited edition Felyne that you can get during the spring season changeover only at the onsen’s Wi-Fi spot.

Pictured above are some of the dishes you can order should you decide to stay at the onsen, including a Kushala Daora ramen, Generu Serutasu soba noodle set, Garara Ajara chirashi rice bowl…

That ham looks particularly tasty. Hopefully, it will only go boom in your mouth the same way cooking manga like Shokugeki no Soma do.

When you’re done eating and drinking, you can then relax in this bath.

Seems they’ve gone the whole mile and even done up statues! You can paint your own at special painting classes too.

Back in December, Capcom reported that they’d shipped 4 million units of Monster Hunter 4 in Japan, including both retail shipments as well as sales. In a recent Q&A with investors and analysts, they provided an updated shipment figure.

In reply to a question regarding the current state of Monster Hunter 4, Capcom stated that total shipments of the game are at 4.1 million units as of February 13th, and that the game's sell-through percentage is "also high".

Additionally, Capcom noted that they have announced an updated version of the game, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which will be released in Japan this fall. Since players have the ability to transfer their data to the game from Monster Hunter 4, Capcom will continue to use promotional events and other measures to continue to raise awareness of both titles.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be released in the west in early 2015.

Last week, Nintendo released Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in Japan, and the game sold an absurdly low number of copies in its first week on store shelves. Tropical Freeze sold just 35,717 copies and barely lifted Wii U hardware sales, which were at 8,782 units.

Here’s an idea of how badly Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze did: Donkey Kong Country Returns, which was released in 2010 for the Wii, sold 163,310 copies in its first week. A port of that game, released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, sold 104,569 copies in its first week. Tropical Freeze is nowhere near those numbers.

In other news, Yo-kai Watch for the Nintendo 3DS is at 423,836 copies sold. Level 5 announced this morning that they’ve shipped 500,000 copies of the game to retailers thus far, so that leaves approximately another 75,000 copies to get through.

able content is doing well for Capcom, the company has revealed in its financial results briefing for the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal year.

According to Capcom, DLC sales are “already 7.7 billion yen, which is 10% higher than the plan for the entire fiscal year”. Capcom’s current fiscal year ends on March 31st, 2014.

Additionally, Capcom say that full game s of both new and older titles have been strong. For the first nine months of the ongoing fiscal year, full game s have more than doubled, growing from 1.5 million the previous year to 3.6 million this year.

This makes sense, given that Capcom released a number of able titles this year, such as DuckTales Remastered and Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies in the west.

Meanwhile, the sales of packaged titles in the west decreased this fiscal year, as compared to the year prior, by 900,000 units in North America and Europe each.

This, too, makes sense, since recent Capcom releases like Lost Planet 3 have failed to sell as per expectations in the west, and the company didn’t have a major title to help offset the drop in the sales of packaged games this fiscal year. (In Japan, however, packaged sales increased due to Monster Hunter 4.)

Capcom say their plans is to create further year-on-year growth for their DLC business as well as full game s, going forward.

How big is Monster Hunter in Japan, you ask? Popular enough to hold annual festivities, where fans from across the country gather to enjoy Monster Hunter-themed events, called “Monster Hunter Festa”. Capcom recently shared a few videos from Monster Hunter Festa 2013’s top teams of the time attack tournament.

Team Super Dry, a duo of Long Sword s takes home gold in the event, but the above is a look at a fight against the new shark monster called Zaboazagill and Tigrex during the semi-finals.

Amazingly enough, they prove that Long Swords are still the go-to weapon for reliability and top-notch damage dealing, as they finished the fight in 6 minutes and 29 seconds.

During the finals of the “King of Hunters” main event, the champions took on a trio of Brachydios, Yian Garuga and a permanent “Super Saiyan” mode Rajang, impressively finishing the fight in just 10 minutes and 51 seconds.

In this video, we get a look at the all-female Hunter tournament finals, with Team Lupi-Mini finishing as the champions. This team is made of an Insect Staff and Bow s, who put the fierce Deviljho to shame, making it look as easy as farming Great Jaggis.

Finally, here’s a look at the finals of the parents and children tournament, where the father-son Dual Blade team of Bundori Meraruu were crowned as the champions. They fight the scorpion-like Genel Serutas and its Arserutas mate, finishing in 3 minutes and 54 seconds.
